Picked up Farcry Primal in the latest Steam sale.
I don't mind that it recycled Far Cry 4's map at all. It's different enough that it doesn't really detract from the game in any way I've noticed. Locations still feel like a different place, even if the base area of the map is the same.
Really only just started it. Got through the tutorial area and into the main area. Did some wandering around. I do like that the various random encounter missions actually serve a purpose beyond XP. They gain you villagers, which opens up other elements. So there's more incentive to care about going out of your way to do them, at least at first.
Pretty fun so far, interesting premise with it being a cave man game. I like that they didn't go full fantasy and toss dinosaurs in there. It's anything but realistic, and the stone age tech keeps things fresh.
I also like the fear system. It's not as nuanced as Batman, but if you kill enough enemies you'll scare off others. This goes for other tribes and animals. You can also scare off predators by injuring them enough.
I don't buy Ubisoft games at launch anymore. They're always super buggy and unfinished, but I do have to admit that they at least get around to patching things up. Out of all the big game companies, I've been less annoyed by them than Bethesda, especially recently. They aren't my favorite publishing company [CD Projekt Red], but are a lesser evil compared to many.
I won't even buy EA games anymore and haven't for several years now. The few I have I got for free via giveaways from sites like GoG or in Humble Bundles where I had to get one to get something else. I have no regrets about that. They and Konami are only publishing companies I won't buy anything from just because it's them currently, but Bethesda is heading that way.
I'll eventually play FC 5 as well. Just not till it's been out for a bit first.
