The White Council has the instant death penalty on anything which uses Mind Control magic and they can catch and kill (except for the Blackstaff and possibly the GateKeeper). And thier "black magic" ban(death penalty except for self-defense) is a hell of a lot more comprehensive than what is considered "dark magic" by HP standards.
Just "muggle" repelling wards would qualify for the White Council's death penalty.

Which pretty much explains why Harry's in such deep trouble with the Council in the sequel, yes.

Defying Fate: Journey of the Offworlder
Events at the end of Final Fantasy 8 have unintended consequences, resulting in entire worlds and realities merging together with a diabolic mind directing things. A pretty decent HP/FF crossover (it touches on damn near all of the FF series). Granted, it has its flaws, but it's 40 chapters long and at over 325,508 words so far.

I'll risk the backlash and necro this thread. Does anyone have any good HP crossovers in the following series,
Code Geass (only seen cracks with this)
Full Metal Alchemist ( too few, and most are "insert Edward into HP world fics...")
Negima (surprised that there isn't a good one)
