Wishing I could do more

I haven't written a fic in a while.

I feel bad just writing that, because I only started writing fanfiction at all a few months ago, when I first started coming here. At first it was just something I did as a lark, but when I started to get some positive feedback, I really began to enjoy it, and started to write and post more, and it was great fun.

The problem is that while fanfiction is great fun, it doesn't pay and isn't something you can put on a resume. When I first started coming here, my freelance writing was in a slump - but recently, it's started to go on an upswing again, and now I find myself juggling several projects at once, all of them writing (d20 RPG writing too, which I love) and all of them either paying or offering monetary compensation (free products, etc.), and all of which look good when applying for other such jobs.

Simply put, writing for work has squeezed out fic writing, and I miss the fic writing. I just wanted to toss that out there in case anyone was wondering why I suddenly went from posting stuff every other day to suddenly vanishing off the face of the 'net. :blue:

Hey, if you're getting money and/or free stuff for writing, then go for it.

I'd do exactly the same in your position.

In fact, if I ever get enough of an original idea, I'm going to try writing a novel or screenplay.

Fanfiction is something you do for fun, original fiction is (usually) something you do as work. Nobody's gonna blame you for putting work that can pay, if you can do it, go for it (and then shamelessly plug your published stuff for sales ;)).

I, for one, can't write original fiction. It's simply... too much work. With fanfiction I can fiddle with already established backgrounds with ease, with original stuff you need to take the time to explain everything of that world (well, if it's Sci-fi or Fantasy anyway), I can't do that very well without it being boring as hell. So actually using this stuff for anything other then personal enjoyment is... unlikely.

Hope you find you find time for both, but if not... good luck with that. ^^

It's always the money isn't it?

Don't worry about it, after all real life always have priority no matter what.

Yeah. It is all about the money. Of course, it is money that is paying for this Internet service, getting people to make the anime or manga, having people put up the manga on a hosting site or the anime on YouTube, me watching it, and... getting ideas from. :unsure!:

Catch 22 I guess.
