You are Raven's Apprentice

Raven is given a prophecy that her first apprentice will be 'banished from this world' (where 'this world' refers to her Earth), by Raven. Knowing that she can't just refuse to take an apprentice, Raven decides to bypass a potential tragedy, by summoning a good and willing student from a world that needs, or is going to need, superheroes (so, if you would have refused, or if Raven would consider you evil, you wouldn't be summoned), and then banishing him or her when the student has learned enough.

You arrive in a pentacle, on the floor of Raven's room in Titans Tower, in the form of a healthy and fit version of your sixteen-year-old self. For a bit of added humour, you appear nude, Raven is skyclad, herself, and before either of you get a chance to get dressed, one of the Titans walks in, sees this, and decides to leave you two alone. Preferably, this should be someone who is gossipy or Impulsive enough to tell everyone, and let them jump to conclusions.

When she summons you (i.e., which era in the DCU) is up to you. Likewise, you can choose some AU version, such as the cartoon, an Elseworld, or a fanfic - though if you choose the latter, it would be polite to provide a link to it (or at least the title and author, if it has to high a rating for this site). You can also make your own AU, if you prefer.

So, do you go adventuring with the Titans, once you're powerful enough to help, or do you only get involved when the Tower gets attacked?

What sort of spells would you want to focus on?

What would your uniform be like, if you bother with one?

Who do you try to date, if anyone?

What do you do when you get back home?

Which version of Raven & the Titans do you meet?

Probably the former. I'd need the experience.

What sort of spells would you want to focus on?
The one that summons naked members of the opposite gender would be a priority.
Otherwise, the usual trinity of: mobility (flight, by preference), defense (forefield effect would be favorite) and attack (preferably a range of options). Illusions to appear an age a little more in keeping with my maturity - okay, well to appear as an adult anyway.

What would your uniform be like, if you bother with one?
The latter option, in this context, suggests skyclad. This would have some tactical disadvantages so dark blue pants and shirt under a double-breasted knee length coat, also dark blue.

Who do you try to date, if anyone?
Probably no one although some sly innuendo at Raven's expense would be on the schedule: "Raven summoned me, naked, while she was naked. I have to think that you guys haven't exactly been keeping her attention somehow."

What do you do when you get back home?
Get myself set up for a career as a superhero (if possible a way to make it pay).

Which version of Raven & the Titans do you meet?
Probably the Teen Titans cartoon version - not watched any significant amount of it, but it appears to be a slightly more stable incarnation of the team.

This makes two threads in the past few days that have emigrated from Spacebattles.
I guess I'll try this out here.

So, do you go adventuring with the Titans, once you're powerful enough to help, or do you only get involved when the Tower gets attacked?
I suppose once I actually get good enough with the magic I'll go out with them. Until then though, you can expect me in my room with enough wards up to keep Dr. Fate out.

What sort of spells would you want to focus on?
I'd focus on two things. The first would be any and everything in the 'mindfuckery' category. This could stretch from small things like the jedi mind trick to full-on Xavier 'completely control another person' abilities. And everything in between that I'm forgetting.

The second branch I'd go into is enchantment. That way I could shore up my defense (ring of armor +999999999999...), or enchant a pair of glasses to see through spells, etc. I could also enchant some things for the other Titans.

What would your uniform be like, if you bother with one?
Uniform? Ha! I'll just wear my normal clothes all the time, and if I need a uniform I'll use my mind powers to make people think I'm wearing one.

Who do you try to date, if anyone?
Starfire. Period. The end.

What do you do when you get back home?
Use my unique powers to take over the world and brainwash everyone into believing I'm the God-Emperor of Mankind!

Really though, I'd probably just try to live normally, using my powers to get stuff I wanted. Of course, apparently the world will 'need' me for something, but I won't worry about that until I have to.

Which version of Raven & the Titans do you meet?
Probably the cartoon, as I've never read one of the comics. They would all be aged appropriately of course. Which is to say they'd all be 18 years old instead of the thirteen or so they are in the cartoon.

#4
I don't have an answer for any of this, but I would go for the cartoon since no one dies in there. In the comics, heroes, especially B or C tier have a tendency to get in over their heads and die horribly.

Ah. Yet another amusing thought exercise.

So, do you go adventuring with the Titans, once you're powerful enough to help, or do you only get involved when the Tower gets attacked?
The former, I think ... though since this is me we're talking about here, I seriously doubt I'd be able to stop myself from being excessive where force application is concerned. There's high odds I'd end up killing someone in cold blood before the apprenticeship has run its course.

What sort of spells would you want to focus on?
If I got to actually choose a method of approach, I'd have to say wards, sealing spells, maybe a pinch of onmyo-jutsu if possible. These have insane versatility if you put your mind to being inventive about them and their application, and I could make up 'kill sets' of spells tailored to specific supervillains, for use if I should ever run into them.

With a hefty sideline in immortality/life extension research as a hobby, of course.

What would your uniform be like, if you bother with one?
Body armor. Boots. Possibly warded/seal enhanced. Throw a rust-with-black-trim hooded robe/greatcoat combo on top of that and pretend I'm not. Some kind of staff or wand or crystal pendant thingy or other easily taken-away gimmick to pretend I can't work the mojo without it. Of course, the gimmick is trapped to the wazoo to either blow up or lock whoever takes it away into a pocket dimension.

Who do you try to date, if anyone?
Well, seeing as, in that world, I'm a superhero/villain/whatever, and knowing just how well relationships work out for their type, I sure as hell won't be going my way to get one.

Still, if I find myself with time on my hands, and the timeline allows, and there's a JLU cross, I'd likely go and try to get some serious muscle as backup for my wimpy mage persona. Cue beating the shit out of Hamilton and grabbing Galatea.

What do you do when you get back home?
Depends on how I get to go back. Well, the opening moves are going to differ depending on whether I get to keep the new body or not, and I'd definitely spend some time trying to figure out if it's worth keeping my old identity alive.

Still, I'd likely do whatever I feel like while I wrap my head around the concept that my world is going to need superheroes. Then I'd proceed to hunt down people like D, Fos, and similar like-minded individuals to drop off arcane tomes/misc. DC hero gear to.

Which version of Raven & the Titans do you meet?
Eh. Cartoon. Continuity is easier on the brain, for one thing.

I'd go with the closest approximation of Jedi powers I can get, then get some of the techies to make me a lightsaber. Add in teleportation and some minor illusions for concealment purposes. (Though a fully fledged DnD style Wizard would also be rather amusing just for sheer power)

Costume myself in something similar in design to Darth Revan's armor, mainly because it conceals just about everything you can think of, and does have a lot of defensive abilities.

Hell yeah for going out, if our world will need super heroes, the least I can do is get some on the job training before returning.

Anyway, I'd go with the animated universe

I'd go with spells for voice changing, form changing (nothing to big, just race, height, sex, hair color and what not), translation spells, anything to do with mythology, and some spells that would let me control things, like rope, with my mind.

My costume would be heavey duty riot gear(kevlar vest with hard plate, kevlar helmet with plexi-glass visor, gas mask, and maybe a collapseable shield if I could get the techies to make it work), all under a leather duster, cowboy hat, and bandana. I'd also like a cavalry sword, a set of cavalry riding gloves, and a set of cowboy boots.

I'd try to date Starfire.

Yes I go adventuring with the Titans.

When I get back home I'm going to use my powers and appearance to make myself into a Texas folk-hero.

Huh. Well, let's give this a shot.

So, do you go adventuring with the Titans, once you're powerful enough to help, or do you only get involved when the Tower gets attacked?
Unless I wind up having more power and skill than Dark Schneider, definitely adventuring. This is basically a superhero internship; I'm going to need all the practice I can get. :p

What sort of spells would you want to focus on?
Assuming that I have a choice... psionics. Specifically a form of telekinesis that acts as a combination of Lucy's Vectors from Elfen Lied and the Green Lantern's abilities.

(Though I wouldn't mind having the psionics skill set you get in System Shock 2 as well. ^_^ Or at the very least the psychic lightsaber skill.)

Not much beyond that, though. I mean, I wouldn't mind some more subtle stuff, but Lord knows it'd probably be wasted on me. I'm much more the IN YO FACE type of fighter.

What would your uniform be like, if you bother with one?
Greatcoat. There must be a greatcoat. Beyond that?

Lots and lots of body armor. No point in taking unnecessary risks. :p

Who do you try to date, if anyone?
Nobody, really. I've got somebody waiting at home. ;) (Besides, comic book relationships tend to be dangerous/tragic as all hell. No thank you.)

I'd simply enjoy the gratuitous fanservice. ^_^

What do you do when you get back home?
Find a way to profit off my abilities, first and foremost. And if villains wind up popping up (as implied by the hypothetical), get the military involved and help when needed.

Which version of Raven & the Titans do you meet?
Cartoon, most likely. It's the one I'm actually familiar with, and (from what I've seen) it tends to have less retcons.

What sort of spells would you want to focus on?
Generalist, though I'd probably start by learning support spells, healing speed boosting and the like. I might kill things in video games but I have problems actually hurting peopl or animals in real life.

So, do you go adventuring with the Titans, once you're powerful enough to help, or do you only get involved when the Tower gets attacked?
I go adventuring. If my world is going to need me then it would be best I get experience. If I freeze up in my first fight (which is probably assured) it's best to have others fighting along side you, a trial by fire might be effective but it can also be deadly.

What would your uniform be like, if you bother with one?
Light body armor(I know I'd be packing some defensive spells and enchanting things if I can), a utility belt, some sturdy version of glasses, a coat or cloak might be good to store odds and ends with but I'd rather not be wearing anything that can get caught or grabbed easily, at least not at first. Might eventually include a towel.

Who do you try to date, if anyone?
*shrug* Not sure, probably wouldn't try to start anything if I'm gonna be heading back to my world, though if something happens it happens. And as was mentioned, eye candy.

What do you do when you get back home?
Find my family, make a base of operations, start training help/TFFers.

Which version of Raven & the Titans do you meet?
I know the most about the animated version so I'd probably prefer that one, but we all know Murphys law I'd likely end up in one of the comic continuities, and cursing about it.

Might as well give my own reply:
So, do you go adventuring with the Titans, once you're powerful enough to help, or do you only get involved when the Tower gets attacked?
Yes, as I implied in the OP, I'm assuming I'll need the practice. Of course, there's a pretty good chance that the Tower will be attacked before I'm powerful enough to be much help, hence the support spells, below.

What sort of spells would you want to focus on?
Well, I'd start with support stuff: defensive, healing, information gathering, et cetra. Also, I'd look into creating magic items, including something like an Intelligent Device. Would probably look into memory spells, and non-magical memorization techniques. I'd also want to look into teleportation and full-spectrum invisibility, as keeping a secret identity on modern Earth (assuming I decide that I need one) would otherwise be nearly impossible.

What would your uniform be like, if you bother with one?
Armoured, probably mixing magic and technology. Includes an illusion projector, usually set to make a hooded cape. Also, would want to get a crossbow, railgun, or something like that, and a supply of trick bolts/darts.

Who do you try to date, if anyone?
Probably Raven, if she's interested. Otherwise, I'll be to busy training to approach anyone. Of course, that doesn't mean no one will approach me, as superheroes do tend to attract (fan)girls. A lot of those girls are either evil or useless, though.

What do you do when you get back home?
Prepare for whatever's coming, and investigate things that might lead to my being needed. Said preparation would include gathering other likely heroes, of course, & possibly starting a school.

Which version of Raven & the Titans do you meet?
An AU I've been thinking about. Will try to post something on it, later, but a big part of it is that Steph is Robin, Tim is Nightwing, Dick is Batman, and Bruce Wayne (who's getting old, but hadn't planned to retire, yet) is Mayor of Gotham (that part inspired by Error In Judgement, by Adrian Tullberg - which I highly recommend). Also, Superboy is alive, because Cassandra went to her sister Persephone, and asked for a favor.

Go adventuring with the Titans. I'd want to get used to the new lifestyle as soon as possible.

What sort of spells would you want to focus on?
The hardest question out of the bunch. Hm, I don't really know? I suppose a lot of my first spells would be the buffing kind. Make me stronger, faster, etc. Then other than that, whatever I could learn from books and Raven. Hopefully some spells like Negi's, from Negima.

What would your uniform be like, if you bother with one?
My costume would change a lot, I don't like the idea of sticking to one thing, so anything would be open game, but I would probably always have a Wizard's hat, which would shadow my face, giving it the appearance of a Black Mage from Final Fantasy.

Who do you try to date, if anyone?
Jinx, she's kind of cute. D: However, if I'm really lucky I'd go for Supergirl

What do you do when you get back home?
Join the TTF Corps of course. D: Hopefully we get a chant to go along with it ala Lantern Corps.

"With minds most perverted
we are those who were alerted
of evil that would come to our planet,
and until that threat is subverted,
we will stand strong, like statues of granite."

Just you know, a lot better. =D

Which version of Raven & the Titans do you meet?
The cartoon version. There was a lot more comedy involved in that one, something that I loved about it.

First I'd focus on spells that allow me to snipe at the enemy while hiding out of sight or attack the enemy from behind. Second I'd rely on defensive spells to help me take hits when/if the enemy notices me. Perhaps even energy/power draining spells if the enemy got close enough to grab. Then some teleportation/flying spells. Though ultimately I think all the other spell casters should find/create/come up with spells that will help you not get instantly splattered if you run into Trigon. I for one would avoid direct combat with him.

By the end as I became a better wizard, I'd like to be a D&D type Warlock/wizard by the end.

I'd go adventuring with the Titans to help them in their fights, but wouldn't get directly involved. Wouldn't show up at the battle with them though, would rather attack the villain of the week while they were distracted with the titans.

Costume would be this
http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/8620/alternaterando3.jpg
http://img175.imageshack.us/my.php?image=alternaterando.jpg

For weapons, perhaps mechanical versions of these
http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s216/ph...wWStand_540.jpg

Of if the enemy gets close http://www.trueswords.com/shark-massive-ha...eel-p-4720.html.

Far as dating goes, maybe Raven.

When I'd get back home, I'd deal with whatever enemy their was around if I had too, but then find a way to end my banishment from the Titan's universe /and or travel to other universes. Then I'd make a living by robbing from bandits and would be conquerers.

As for the version of titan's I'd meet, would be the cartoon version.

Experience is the best teacher after all so it's out into the field for me.

What sort of spells would you want to focus on?
Defensive and support to start and then on to attack spells.
I would also try to learn the same spell Raven used to summon me so I can return to visit my new friends.

I would also get some training from Robin, I don't want to get pulped should my magic fail me.

What would your uniform be like, if you bother with one?
Light armor, boots, face protection and a utility belt but no cape.
Kinda like this without the helmet and in black

Who do you try to date, if anyone?
Well I wouldn't mind dating Raven if she would have me.

What do you do when you get back home?
start small and start dealing with crime in the local area
get some support from the local government and gather some like minded people.

so probably that version of her.

Odd... quoting isnt working wtf?

1. If they want support fine, otherwise probably not.

2. Shielding and Entrapment. Cant fight when you cant breathe yeah?

3. Old WW2 army fatigues with the combat jacket but thats about it.

4.Haha. Walking into a field of mines there.

5. Dunno settle down fix whatever it was that I need to do?

6. the Cartoon version is the one im most familiar with so I guess i'd go there...

Hm. Gonna go a little out of order here...

Which version of Raven & the Titans do you meet?
I'd be summoned by 3rd-Life pre-Infinite Crisis Raven. I'd be banished in some event right before the start of IC. I think comic-Raven would be a better teacher, personally. I also wouldn't feel quite so bad about the whole naked thing. Unless we're talking future-ish toon-Raven. Wonder Girl (Cassie) or maybe Robin walks in on us. Maybe Nightwing on a visit. Cassie's got a temper, Batman's sidekicks are all at least a little paranoid (justifiably so)... oh yes, we have ignition.

What sort of spells would you want to focus on?
I have to choose? Damn. Well, to start, buffs and healing. I'd also go in for tracking spells right off the bat. Damned useful to have. Flight/teleportation ASAP as well, though I think I can wait on those. I'd also like to learn to create/imbue/enchant Items as well, but again, I think I can wait. For combat spells... I was always a control player in MtG... lotsa defense stuff, wards and shields, general interrupts/counters... I'd try to get a broad grounding in offensive styles too, though I'd focus on water magic. Don't look at me like that, water is an insanely powerful element to pick, when you sit down and think about it. 75% of the Earth's surface is water. ~70% of the average HUMAN is water. Think bloodbending. Think iceworking. Plus water seems like it would be the easiest to convert from defense to attack. I'd also look into sound/music-based magic.

So, do you go adventuring with the Titans, once you're powerful enough to help, or do you only get involved when the Tower gets attacked?
If I'm ordered to go, I go. If I get no orders, I go. If I get told to stay behind... well, if I can do at least basic shielding I'm going to seriously consider going just to watch. Experience is the best teacher, and seeing something for yourself better than hearing about it from someone else.

What would your uniform be like, if you bother with one?
World of Warcraft Mage T3/7/7.5 with goggles instead of that ugly-ass helm.

Who do you try to date, if anyone?
Hahaha... good one....

What do you do when you get back home?
I set up shittons of wards around my home, then start tracking down prospective superheroes in my spare time.

Edit: Yeah, if I could plot-device my way into becoming a 'walker I would. As a reminder, magical cataclysms and other huge-ass powers usually do the trick. So does, according to the old books, accumulating enough mana on your own to let you punch through the barrier to the Blind Eternities.

So, do you go adventuring with the Titans, once you're powerful enough to help, or do you only get involved when the Tower gets attacked?
...I suppose I'd eventually get suckered/guilted into helping, so yeah.

What sort of spells would you want to focus on?
One word: Counterspell. Basically nullifying magic, dispelling, power blocking, etc. This would let me get a huge advantage over the otherwise hugely broken villains of this 'verse, as it doesn't matter how strong their powers are if they keep getting nullified at mid-use. Once I'm strong enough, pick up the occasional "omg hax" power-packed spells and conjuring, to even the fight even further by bringing in mystical objects as power-ups. If I can, I'd also try to pick up dimensional traveling at some point, so I'd never get bored once I left this world for my own.

What would your uniform be like, if you bother with one?
Well, the Titans -and pretty much every comic-originated superhero- have horrendous fashion sense, so I'd up out on that shit and simply wear a more understated and infinitely more badass blue longcoat.

Who do you try to date, if anyone?
Nobody. OTOH, using my powers for my own benefit might net me a good bit of cash, so ale and whores are never out of the question.

What do you do when you get back home?
Assuming I learned dimensional traveling, I wouldn't stay there for long. Infinite multiverse to explore, and all that.

Which version of Raven & the Titans do you meet?
Cartoon. Comic continuity fries my brain.

OK, I've got an opening snippet for the world I end up in:
I was rather startled to find myself lying in a pentacle, surrounded by candles, on someone's floor, instead of in my bed, which is where I had been.á I sat up, and saw a nude, pale, very attractive young woman kneeling in a triangle next to the pentacle I was in.

If I were to try to describe her poetically, it would start something like this:

Hair as black as a raven's wing
(And growing only upon her head)
Skin as pale as a very pale thing
Eyes like amethysts, with traces of red

... and then I'd stop, because that poem sucks.

I sat up, a little surprised at how much easier it was than I expected, and noticed that I was a good deal less hairy, and had lost my annoying paunch.á In fact, I was nearly as thin as when I'd been a teenager, and better muscled than I'd ever been.

"Um, hello, miss," I said, hesitantly.

"Welcome," she replied.

Before we could say anything more, we were interrupted by a door opening.á Through it, I could see a pair of cosplayers in a hallway, one going as the Teen Titans version of Flamebird, the other as Beast Boy.á Very authentic-looking costumes, too.

"Hey, Raven, we're," the green kid started, then froze for a moment, when he noticed us, "ah, gonnaleaveyouguysalone, bye!" he continued, and then closed the door, neither having entered the room.

"OK, uh, Raven," I started, "I seem to be missing some memories - possibly quite a few of them, since not only do I not remember how I got here, but in my last clear memory, I was rather out of shape."

"I summoned you here," she answered.á "The spell formed an idealized body for your use."

"That's a... sufficiently bizarre statement that I'm going to have to ask for some sort of proof," I replied.á Beautiful girl, but quite possibly insane.

"Very well," she said, and gestured.á Her hand was then engulfed in shadow; not as if there was something between the hand and a light source, but as if something dark but transparent had appeared around her hand.á The shadow was itself surrounded by a corona of faint, white light.á Light does not work that way.

Likewise, shadows with coronae do not suddenly surround candles, and said candles do not levitate slowly over to a shelf, and put themselves out, which is the next thing that happened.á As they were moving so slowly, I reached out, to see if I could feel any wires, jets of air, or other means of propulsion.á I didn't.á When I put my hand into the shadowed area, the only physical sensation I got was cold at the corona, warmth in the shadow, and an ordinary lit candle, when I touched the candle.á Nonetheless, I had the impression that I was touching something truly special, the moment my hand entered that shadow.á Something beautiful.

"Thank you," said Raven.

I blinked, removing my hand from the shadow, and wondering what I was being thanked for, and if she could perhaps read minds.á "So, you summoned me.á OK, why?" I wondered.

"I was given a prophecy, that I would banish my first apprentice from this world," she told me.á "I didn't want to ruin someone's life, or train someone evil, so I decided to summon a good person from another world, a world that needs a heroic mage, and then banish you back, when you've learned enough to work without me."

"Ah, you wouldn't happen to know why my world is going to need a spellcasting superhero, would you?" I asked, worried.

"No," she replied, "the summoning wasn't that specific."

"Those two kids weren't cosplayers, were they?" I asked.

"No," she answered, "they're Beast Boy and Flamebird, and I am Raven, of the Teen Titans.á Do we exist in your universe?"

"Only as comic books, cartoons, and fan works," I replied.á I guess my life just got a lot more interesting.
So, thoughts?

So, do you go adventuring with the Titans, once you're powerful enough to help, or do you only get involved when the Tower gets attacked?
Ummm. I think I help them out, when I get strong enough. I mean, superhero-ism isn't exactly an easy business, and it's scary, but I think I'll at least try.

What sort of spells would you want to focus on?
Wards, shields, some beams, a grapple beam, highspeed movement, and anti-curse stuff. And, healing magic, of course. Bit of a tall order, but I need to diversify.
What would your uniform be like, if you bother with one?
Uhh, street clothes? Cause eveyone's going to be expecting a guy in a brightlycolored leotard? Of course, the magic may just tip them off...

All right, jeans, combat boots,T-shirt, with a jacket and hood. Maybe a ninja mask. Simple, functional, and screams Telekinetic rather than Mage. That'll probably give some useful confusion, when the anti-psy field fails to contain me.
Who do you try to date, if anyone?
None. Maybe, if I'm approached, but if I'm going home anyway, I probably won't have the relationship go too far.

What do you do when you get back home?
Hide, and wait for the 'Evil' I'm supposed to fight to rear it's head. Which, will probably be magical in nature, given that whole 'fight magic with magic' thing. Afterward, reveal myself to the public, and see if I can't harness the public support to stop the governments of the world from rounding me up to experiment on.

Which version of Raven & the Titans do you meet?
TV version. Less headaches, and general drama that way.

@Charon
Nice piece.
Interesting, but not quite enough to make wait with baited breath.
Decent though.

Out of curiosity, has it occurred to anyone that the reason that the world is going to need a mage is because Raven summoned them? Self-fulfilling prophecy and all that.

Perhaps some super villain from DC would find out there is a whole dimension out there without magic and superheros to oppose them, and thus ripe for conquering?

Thought on Supergirl: she's a healthy teenage girl who isn't a lesbian; ergo, it would be implausible if she doesn't use her X-ray vision to peep on boys. :snigger:

Less cheerful thought: Girl of Steel, Boy of Toothpaste :ph43r: :blue: OTOH, you might not get that far, due to her invulnerable Kryptonian hymen.

Well, I know Superman has a weakness to magic(that seems to fluctuate). It's possible all Kyrptonians share that weakness, but I have no knowledge of Supergirl, so I don't know if she's a full Kryptonian or not.

If she is, and that's a shared weakness; magical condoms.
