Meh, the problem with evaluating music choices someone else makes on anything is it is very much indeed a matter of personal tastes in music. Two people can listen to the same songs, but get completely different feelings and reactions out of it.
It also matters to what you are envisioning it being matched with... I may like a light cheery tune, but by no means would that fit with a gitty harsh life as that depicted in say Hellsing. On the other hand, a song like 'When you're Evil' by Voltare does, (to me)...
Take myself for example, I prefer lighter music where the words are more important than the beat, and generally a lighter sound or tell a story... so that still leaves a lot, but less as you get more modern, as a lot of newer songs are heavier these days than I generally care for, so many newer AMV's are actually turn offs due to the songs used, not the quality of the song or video. So a series of songs using either harder rock styles or rap will be far less likely to catch my interest or approval than many other people.
So... pop rock of the 60's, what used to be called light rock of the 80's, a few select artists of the 90's (ex. rednex/cruxshadows), and 2000's, and even fewer newer than 2010... There are exceptions for me of course, some songs select for example from Fall Out Boy, Alex Megane, Dierks Bentley, Steam Powered Giraffe, Lindsey Stirling, Jack White, and Caleb Hyles appeal, but by no means is that most songs by them, only select ones.
