Snape would join with Malfoy unless Malfoy was seen as the other side. Because unlike Malfoy Snape knows that Voldemort will return. And Snape can't look after himself unless he's on both sides. And Malfoy will have no conceivable way to stop Voldemort when he comes back.
So both Snape and Malfoys best bets for long term success is to see that Voldie never comes back or if he does has few if any supporters. No money. And no bases to work from.

Buy and destroy Riddle Manor/Gaunts Shack. Incinerate the families remains.

If he knows about Wormtail hunt him down and turn him in. Use that to spring Black and then work on ingraiating him and helping him recover and get Harry away from his relatives and Dumbledore. If he cant make them frineds at least make them not Dumblesdores allies and not his enemy.

Get Snape out of Hogwarts and into independent Potions research and Apothacary work in Diagon or Knockturn Alleys. Have him tutor the Clients children on the side and pay fot the apprenticeships for the very best. Again its about removing tools from the Headmasters arsenal and not making enemies.

Malfoy doesn't know Voldemort is coming back, and Riddle won't tell him. Snape knows Dumbledore has a plan. Snape knows that he can play both sides. But why would a traitor trust a traitor?

Simple: he will done it to cause chaos and confusion into the various sides of the conflict (Light, Gray and Dark), to damage them and increase his chances to survive the war.

I'd comment but your lack of comprehension when it comes to writing in English is blocking any real understanding what you're trying to say.

Just thought of a book title /report for malfoy to read. Th eone that caught his attention and made him question Voldies party line.

Heritage and Histories of the Dark Lords and their Armies of Magical Britain: From Morgana to Modern Times...

Premise of the book was to outline just who all the Dark Lords had been and to clearly outline if not their stated goals but also their effects and were possiable the thoughts of the participants from their journals. Was being written buy the Ministry Master Archivist in his spare time. It was a work that had taken him the better part of forty years. Had everything from the formation of the ministry and the records inheriited from the previous governing body and from extinct families. Plus birth, death and marriage certificates. Plus details about the Dark Lords espoused goals and the social background of the times. Which families supported them and why. Transcripts from several trials, DMLE reports. It is 1,200 pages of what would be the political and social background plus a 80 page index of documents and were they could be found in the magical public record. Plus several shrunken trunks of copies of those records. Many of which are very embarassing.

Not something the purebloods ever wanted to see the light of day. Especailly written by a pureblood.

Its and Idea...

The book would have never been allowed to hit the presses. The ministry would see it as a guide on how to become a Dark Lord.

I agree its something that the Ministry would never allow but at this pont the guy is in his seveties or eighties and is far more intersted in a correct view of history and the truth then he is in long term survival in England.

It started as an update for his families personal history collection and for publication in other countries after he retired, took a lump sum payout and emigrated to warmer climes. He knew his chances of publication in Britain were zero planned for it to both fund his retirement and weaken the pureblood zelots web of deception overseas.

It grew becasue of his position as master archivist he had total access to even sealed documents and was interested in knowing and puzzling out the big picture.

You seem to work under the misconception that all purebloods everywhere are closet Dark Lord supporters, which is frankly nonsense.

No I don't assume that but I do assume that there are asignificant number of purebloods with vested interests in the status quo that arn't extremist and Death Eaters and they would not like to have the foibles of the past pointed out to them.

Especially with all that embarassing detail.

It makes people think and gives them ideas about changes that would upset the status quo.

Holy shit, eight month necro, but fear not! I bring you...

SNIPPETRY!!!

Lucius Malfoy paused for a moment, examining himself. While he was a pureblood, and had dedicated himself to the Dark Lord, that did not mean he was incapable of disguising himself as a Muggle. A black suit and tie were easy enough to acquire, and it served to project a psoition of culture and strength. Exactly what he wanted to accomplish. This was the first attempt, a trial run to see if the Muggleborns could be used as a foundation of power.

Resisting the urge to barge in, Lucius instead politely knocked on the door, and waited.

Within seconds, he heard the sounds of voices inside the house, followed shortly by rapid footsteps. He schooled his face in a well practiced manner as the door opened, revealing a willow thin woman.

"Mrs. Emily Pulmstone, I presume?" he inquired. He was certain this was the correct house, but the form of etiquette needed to be observed. It wouldn't do to put them off through rudeness.

"Yes... can I help you?"

"It is I that would like to help you. Now is your husband home?"

"Yes..." she acknowledged, "Ben dear! Some man is here to see us!" she called out, before turning back to him, "Would you liek a cup of tea?"

"I would be delighted."

Lucius sat down with Ben, while Emiluy rushed off the the kitchen to prepare a quick cup of tea.

"So what brings your to our home? Nothing troublesome I hope..." ben began, eying the strange man in front of him.

"I don't belive that to be the case, though you may view it as such. I like to think of it as an opportunity." Lucius replied, "but let's wait until your wife returns. It would be improper to talk about this without her presence."

"Very well..." Ben agreed, still noticably concerned with Lucius' unexpected arrival. They exchanged idle conversation until Emily returned with the tea.

"Thank you." Lucius said, sipping his drink slowly. While it was not the same quality as he was used to, it was palatable, and he didn't want to offend them

"Now can we get down to business?"

"Of course. My name is Lucius Malfoy, and I've come here to discuss your son Jerome." Lucius said, bringing the polite conversation to an end as he launched into his true purpose for coming.

"Is he in some sort of trouble?" Emily asked almost immediately, "Did he break your window playing baseball? Oh i told that boy a hundred times to be careful..."

"It's nothing like that." Lucius assured the fretting housewife. "First, I would like to ask; have you ever had something strange happen around Jerome? Something you can;t explain when he gets angry, or scared, or feels any powerful emotion?"

"Maybe..." Ben answered cautiously, "What does that have to do with you?"

"Because, I know the source of those strange phenomena." he answered, "Your son, like me, is a wizard."

For a moment, there was silence, before the couple broke into laughter. Lucius quirked his eyebrow at the sudden outburst, but held his tongue while they recoved their composure.

"For a moment, you really had me going!" Ben chuckled, unable to fully contain his humor. "A wizard, like magic? Ha!"

Lucius didn't reply with words, instead drawing his wand, and idly changing his now empty teacup into a frog. Emily shrieked as she witnessed the transformation, beofre another wave of his wand restored it to its original form.

"I assure you, I am not joking. If you require another demonstration, I would be happy to oblige you." Lucius said calmly, waiting for them to process his words.

"Y-you're serious." Ben gaped, still staring in disbelief at the teacup, "You're really a wizard."

"Yes."

"And just what do you want with our son?"

"Your son has the ability to use magic, just as I can. Once he reaches his eleventh birthday, he will receive a letter from Hogwarts, the premiere school for magical instruction, where he will learn everything he needs to know to survive in the magical world."

"And why are you here now? Why couldn't you wait until he got this letter?" Emily asked.

Lucius sighed, "Our world has recently undergone a war of sorts. A dark wizard turned a number of old families to his cause, which was to wipe out all witches and wizards born to non magical parents."

Emily gasped, while Ben tensed, "Are you saying we're in danger?"

"No. Fortunately, he was defeated not too long ago. However, the bigotry he stirred up is not likley to settle down anytime soon. I'm sorry to say this, but the magical world is not a good place for new witches and wizards. Your son is likley to face difficulties and hardships that many magical children have never had to deal with before."

"So why are you here?"

"I am here because I don't want that to be the case. I don't want to see your son or others like him to be hindered by shortsighted fools who can more for bloodlines than talent. I am not without my own political clout, and with your permission, I would like to offer your son guidance and assistance in dealing with the magical world."

"And what's in it for you?" Ben asked suspiciously.

"The only way for me to effectively help your son is through adoption into the Malfoy family.. Do not be concerned, i have no intention of taking your son away by force. This essentially marks him as a member of the Malfoy family. This will make his life significantly easier, and open up a number of avenues that would otherwise be closed."

"You still haven;t told us how this helps you."

"This helps me, because while your son will get all the opportunities that he deserves, I will gain a talented and hardworking son. While I do have my own offspring, I wish to do my best to ensure that the Malfoy family remains strong, and is capable of surviving. If your son proves worthy, he will become my heir, and be the patriarch of the Malfoy family. If he is not, he will still prove to be a valuable member of my family. My goal is to see the Malfoy family reach new heights, and I see the potential for such greatness in your son. Is it so wrong to want to nurture that?"

"And you promise that we'll still be able to see him?"

"My dear, I have no intention of stealing your son away form you. At most, he will stay at my manor for a few weeks during the summer, and you are welcome to stay with him if you so desire. While only your son will be adopted, I wish for all of you to be part of my family."

The couple turned towards each other, engaged in hushed conversation. Lucius refrained from listening in, contenting himself to quietly wait for them to finish.

"Mr. Malfoy, your offer is generous, but we're not comfortable entering into any type of agreement until we know you better,"

"Of course." Lucius agreed. While it was not the ideal outcome, it was more than acceptable. "Would you care to join us for dinner this weekend? I'm sure Narcissa would be delighted to have you."

"That would be lovely." Emily said, Ben nodding in agreement. "Would six o'clock'

"Wonderful." Lucius smiled, "Then I will be by this Saturday to pick you up."

The Pulmstone escorted him out, and Lucius refrained from apparating the moment he stepped outside, instead waiting to round the corner. While things could have gone better, it could have been much worse. It was a small step, but it was progress.

More snippetry! I'm really digging 750words.com. It makes it easier to make progress. Probably needs some editing and such, but it's just for fun at this point.

"Are you mad?" Narcissa demanded. Her husband sighed, rubbing his forehead to relieve the stress of the situation.

"Much as it galls me to admit it, we were fooled. Fooled by half blood with delusions of grandeur. He delivered on his promises, but at what cost? Dozens of families have been wiped out, entire family trees have vanished over the course of this war, both light and dark, and for what? Purity? What good is purity if none of us survive the purge?"

"But what you're proposing..."

"Is necessary. The Malfoys need a strong heir, and while I would like young Draco to take the reigns, it is not something I can leave to chance. Muggleborns are an untapped resource in the realm of politics, and by taking advantage of them, we can secure a position of power for the Malfoy family for generations to come."

"Lucius..." Narcissa began, uncertain of how to react.

"Still... to turn our backs on everything we've been taught... it's almost blasphemous."

"Our family has always sworn itself to power. We followed the Dark Lord because of the power he demonstrated, as we followed the powers that came before him. Now is the opportunity for the Malfoys to build their own base of power, instead of supporting another's. The situation now is precarious, and if we don't take the opportunity presented to us, then we may never see another chance in our lifetimes."

"...Very well. I have always trusted in your judgement. If this is the path you've chosen for our family, then I will support you, the way i always have." Narcissa said, assuring her husband that she would stand by his side.

Lucius allowed himself a small smile. "Thank you Narcissa. You have no idea how much that means to me."

"I've always wanted to have another child... I suppose that wish has been granted many times over if your plan succeeds."

Lucius laughed, "I suppose you're right, my dear. "

"Still, if we're going to appeal to the Muggles, there will need to be some changes around the house..."

Seeing the feminine gleam in his wife's eye, Lucius resisted the urge to cringe. While the Malfoy family was indeed wealthy, it always hurt just a little bit whenever Narcissa went on a spending spree.

The Pulmstones were ready when Lucius returned, though they seemed a bit surprised when he arrived without any visible form of transportation.

"I don't suppose, wizards use cars... do they?" Emily asked.

Lucius smiled, "We have been known to, but most prefer... alternative methods of transportation. This is a portkey, and it will transport us directly to my home, if you would be so kind as to take it."

Jerome readily accepted, but his parents were hesitant, unable to move those last few inches to grasp it. Lucuis nodded indulgently, silently assuring them that it was safe, and they finally touched it.

Moments later, the room was empty.

"I apologize if that was... uncormfortable. I forget how difficult such unusual forms of travel can be to the uninitiated." Lucius apologized, as the Pulmstones slowly regained their bearings.

"It's fine..." Ben muttered, "but in the future, I hope you don't mind if we drive."

"Of course not, now if you'll follow me, I would like to introduce my lovely wife, Narcissa."

"A pleasure." Narcissa said as she stepped into the foyer, the epitome of the gracious hostess. "I must confess, I don't keep up with occurances outside of the wizarding world, so I hope you don't mind telling me about it."

"Of course not." Emily replied, and within moments, the two women were chatting away like old friends.

"That's quite a gift your wife has. Emily's almost never that open with a stranger."

"Narcissa ha s silver tongue, that has bewitched many a man and woman alike. I myself have been taken in on more than one occassion." Lucius admitted, offering up a small glass "Would you care for a drink?"

"Thank you." Ben accepted, downing it in a single gulp, "I have to say, this is a new experience. To think there was another side of the world that we've never seen before."

"The feeling is mutual. While we are aware of your world, we mostly keep to ourselves, and a great number don't even bother to learn the simplest of things."

"Such as?"

"Traditionally, a wizard or witch will wear robes. I have seen one wizard often wearing a dress in the presence of Muggles."

Ben laughed uproariously, and Lucius found himself chuckling alongside him

"To be fair, he did look quite smashing in it."

Random snippet. Once again trying to stoke the fires and get back to writing. Apologies for roughness. Wrote this spur of the moment before I go to sleep. Maybe I'll fix it up later.

Lucius' investigation into his now former lord didn't stop with discernign his true identity, nor with the details of his bloodline. He dug deeper thant that, his past worshop and obedience transforming into obsession, to know everything there was to know about the deceased Dark Lord, so that he would no longer be blinded by ideals nor preconceptions. What he found was most illuminating.

Tom Marvolo Riddle, illegitimate son of Tom Riddle, a fairly wealthy muggle, and Merope Guant.

Lucius discreetly paid a visit to his former Lord's birthplace, observing the muggles from a distance. They seemed normal, as far as muggles went. No obvious signs of deficiency, that his brief observation could reveal.

Sadly, the same could not be said for the magical side of Voldemort's family. His uncle and grandfather were all that remained, and they existed as barely more than animals, fighting one another and lashing out at anyone who would approach them. it was only their sub par magical abilities that prevented the Aurors form gettign involved, He doubted they had enough power between them to lift a feather, lat alone do any real harm. They were no better than vagrants, madmen who were avoided out of fear and pity by the society around them.

Casually, Luscious drew his wand, and with a deft motion, knocked the two men unconscious with a pair of stunners. Suppressing a sneer of distaste, he ventured into the shack they called their home, in hopes of gaining greater insight.

Voldemort's magical ancestors were mad, barely magical at all anymore, but they had information. Their own obsession with purity far outstripped Lucius' past dedication, and they had devoted countless tomes to their bloodline, tracking the family tree all the way back to Salazar Slytherin himself, as well as journals detailing the vigorous "pruning" of branches that lost their vaunted purity.

Lucius found it disturbing how little disgust he felt towards their actions.

Still, observing the differences between the Gaunts and The Dark Lord... no, Riddle, Lucius found himself wondering if purity of the blood had any real value at all. From what he had gleaned, it was the dilution of the blood, the disruption of generations of inbreeding, that gave Riddle enough potential to be accepted into Hogwarts. Perhaps blood, when concentrated too thickly, turned to poison, choking the potential of young wizards and witches, condemning them to a life as Squibs. It would be a matter worth investigating, to see just how blood purity could affect one's magical potential. Perhaps studying the power of muggleborn witches and wizards would be in order as well.
