Holy shit, eight month necro, but fear not! I bring you...
SNIPPETRY!!!
Lucius Malfoy paused for a moment, examining himself. While he was a pureblood, and had dedicated himself to the Dark Lord, that did not mean he was incapable of disguising himself as a Muggle. A black suit and tie were easy enough to acquire, and it served to project a psoition of culture and strength. Exactly what he wanted to accomplish. This was the first attempt, a trial run to see if the Muggleborns could be used as a foundation of power.
Resisting the urge to barge in, Lucius instead politely knocked on the door, and waited.
Within seconds, he heard the sounds of voices inside the house, followed shortly by rapid footsteps. He schooled his face in a well practiced manner as the door opened, revealing a willow thin woman.
"Mrs. Emily Pulmstone, I presume?" he inquired. He was certain this was the correct house, but the form of etiquette needed to be observed. It wouldn't do to put them off through rudeness.
"Yes... can I help you?"
"It is I that would like to help you. Now is your husband home?"
"Yes..." she acknowledged, "Ben dear! Some man is here to see us!" she called out, before turning back to him, "Would you liek a cup of tea?"
"I would be delighted."
Lucius sat down with Ben, while Emiluy rushed off the the kitchen to prepare a quick cup of tea.
"So what brings your to our home? Nothing troublesome I hope..." ben began, eying the strange man in front of him.
"I don't belive that to be the case, though you may view it as such. I like to think of it as an opportunity." Lucius replied, "but let's wait until your wife returns. It would be improper to talk about this without her presence."
"Very well..." Ben agreed, still noticably concerned with Lucius' unexpected arrival. They exchanged idle conversation until Emily returned with the tea.
"Thank you." Lucius said, sipping his drink slowly. While it was not the same quality as he was used to, it was palatable, and he didn't want to offend them
"Now can we get down to business?"
"Of course. My name is Lucius Malfoy, and I've come here to discuss your son Jerome." Lucius said, bringing the polite conversation to an end as he launched into his true purpose for coming.
"Is he in some sort of trouble?" Emily asked almost immediately, "Did he break your window playing baseball? Oh i told that boy a hundred times to be careful..."
"It's nothing like that." Lucius assured the fretting housewife. "First, I would like to ask; have you ever had something strange happen around Jerome? Something you can;t explain when he gets angry, or scared, or feels any powerful emotion?"
"Maybe..." Ben answered cautiously, "What does that have to do with you?"
"Because, I know the source of those strange phenomena." he answered, "Your son, like me, is a wizard."
For a moment, there was silence, before the couple broke into laughter. Lucius quirked his eyebrow at the sudden outburst, but held his tongue while they recoved their composure.
"For a moment, you really had me going!" Ben chuckled, unable to fully contain his humor. "A wizard, like magic? Ha!"
Lucius didn't reply with words, instead drawing his wand, and idly changing his now empty teacup into a frog. Emily shrieked as she witnessed the transformation, beofre another wave of his wand restored it to its original form.
"I assure you, I am not joking. If you require another demonstration, I would be happy to oblige you." Lucius said calmly, waiting for them to process his words.
"Y-you're serious." Ben gaped, still staring in disbelief at the teacup, "You're really a wizard."
"Yes."
"And just what do you want with our son?"
"Your son has the ability to use magic, just as I can. Once he reaches his eleventh birthday, he will receive a letter from Hogwarts, the premiere school for magical instruction, where he will learn everything he needs to know to survive in the magical world."
"And why are you here now? Why couldn't you wait until he got this letter?" Emily asked.
Lucius sighed, "Our world has recently undergone a war of sorts. A dark wizard turned a number of old families to his cause, which was to wipe out all witches and wizards born to non magical parents."
Emily gasped, while Ben tensed, "Are you saying we're in danger?"
"No. Fortunately, he was defeated not too long ago. However, the bigotry he stirred up is not likley to settle down anytime soon. I'm sorry to say this, but the magical world is not a good place for new witches and wizards. Your son is likley to face difficulties and hardships that many magical children have never had to deal with before."
"So why are you here?"
"I am here because I don't want that to be the case. I don't want to see your son or others like him to be hindered by shortsighted fools who can more for bloodlines than talent. I am not without my own political clout, and with your permission, I would like to offer your son guidance and assistance in dealing with the magical world."
"And what's in it for you?" Ben asked suspiciously.
"The only way for me to effectively help your son is through adoption into the Malfoy family.. Do not be concerned, i have no intention of taking your son away by force. This essentially marks him as a member of the Malfoy family. This will make his life significantly easier, and open up a number of avenues that would otherwise be closed."
"You still haven;t told us how this helps you."
"This helps me, because while your son will get all the opportunities that he deserves, I will gain a talented and hardworking son. While I do have my own offspring, I wish to do my best to ensure that the Malfoy family remains strong, and is capable of surviving. If your son proves worthy, he will become my heir, and be the patriarch of the Malfoy family. If he is not, he will still prove to be a valuable member of my family. My goal is to see the Malfoy family reach new heights, and I see the potential for such greatness in your son. Is it so wrong to want to nurture that?"
"And you promise that we'll still be able to see him?"
"My dear, I have no intention of stealing your son away form you. At most, he will stay at my manor for a few weeks during the summer, and you are welcome to stay with him if you so desire. While only your son will be adopted, I wish for all of you to be part of my family."
The couple turned towards each other, engaged in hushed conversation. Lucius refrained from listening in, contenting himself to quietly wait for them to finish.
"Mr. Malfoy, your offer is generous, but we're not comfortable entering into any type of agreement until we know you better,"
"Of course." Lucius agreed. While it was not the ideal outcome, it was more than acceptable. "Would you care to join us for dinner this weekend? I'm sure Narcissa would be delighted to have you."
"That would be lovely." Emily said, Ben nodding in agreement. "Would six o'clock'
"Wonderful." Lucius smiled, "Then I will be by this Saturday to pick you up."
The Pulmstone escorted him out, and Lucius refrained from apparating the moment he stepped outside, instead waiting to round the corner. While things could have gone better, it could have been much worse. It was a small step, but it was progress.
