I know for a fact that some people get a laugh out of crossdressing on Halloween..

So what if Xander dressed as a woman?
Just read pretty much any JoeHundredaire fic on TTHM. He wrote a really good fic about Xander accidently dressing as Mystique and then not being able to use her powers to turn back into a guy just so he could put lesbian sex in there. It really annoyed me.
funny enough you're a bit wrong. xander can turn into a male if she wants to, the problem is she can't turn back into xander due to a self esteem, disassociation mental problem.

also i have to know, just how well do you know joe's style? everything he does is about lesbians... so, getting buthurt over lesbo's is kind of stupid in that context, i was hoping it's a case of you not knowing any better. but you seem to know enough.

It was the first one of Joe's fics that I read and enjoyed and, yes, I get the whole 'self-esteem' bollucks he tried to justify it with and that's what I complained about. I didn't realise, up until he replied to my reviews, that he was so obsessed with lesbian sex that he might as well be a rug-muncher himself. Now I know better and, when I lurk on spacebattles.com occassionally, I get seriously annoyed by his posts in a way that it makes me want to register just to slag him off. ^_^

Re-reading some Star Wars fics this week, particularly Knights of the Hellmouth and Terran Jedi. I'm struck by just how bored I am by the traditional, two-dimensional Sith-Jedi, Light-Dark dichotomy.

Is it too much to ask that authors start playing with greyer characters?

Or was I the only one who found Jolee Bindo and Kreia to be completely fucking awesome subversions of the usual staid, po-faced Jedi and the puppy-torturing rape-face Sith stereotypes?

Probably my own damn fault for reading Shadows in Starlight. Once you've seen Himura Battousai nuking Toba Fushimi with Force Lightning, there's no going back.

Edit: Talking of fun Dark Siders . . . someone should dress up as Jerec. I'd laugh my ass off at, say, Giles running around Sunnydale and being a Large Ham.

"Mowgan Katahn!" :p

I dislike the idea of 'grey' Force users. The Force is all about duality; lightside and darkside, sacrifice and corruption. Kreia was fucking evil and fell into the corruption that manipulating a galaxy with ease brought along side it. She was freaking Darth Traya; betrayer of the Jedi and betrayed by the Sith simply because she craved for power. Jolee was as lightside as you could get, sacrificing his cushy existance in the Jedi Temple to use his Force powers to help people and for love. His own fucking wife tried to turn him to the darkside and he resisted because, shocker, he's a good guy who wanted to do good deeds not go to war. There are no 'grey' jedi, imho.

See, that's an opinion I can respect, because it's taking into account that these are complicated people with important choices to make about how far they'll go and what means they're willing to accept to reach a given end.

I don't like what some EU sources have implied about, say, the Force playing a big chess game for the sake of Balance. But then, I don't like that TPM did that, either. On the other hand, I don't accept that being a Jedi choirboy or a Sith sociopath are the only paths to choose from. Personal ethics and norms should play some part in how decisions are made.

[One of the reasons I prefer ABY Jedi to any of the previous incarnations - Luke brings his own varied experiences to the table, and likes for his fellow Jedi like Corran, Tionne, Kam, Kyle and the rest to do the same.]

There's a time and a place for decisive conflict. And there's a time and a place for resolving a situation peacefully and without bloodshed. I define a properly fleshed-out grey character as someone who is willing to do either, but only after careful consideration of which is appropriate.

Like rational adult Force users. Not super-powered teenagers. And not playing with definitions and splitting hairs about how "Vaapad isn't Darkside, yo - even though you have to enjoy applying the pimp hand." Or Electric Judgement not really being Force Lightning, even though it's Lightning that you create with your Force powers. . .

tl;dr - Mace Windu is a pretty good example. Know yourself, know how closely you can toe the line between dark and light, and be disciplined about toeing that line. And if you're going to step over it, only cross the line for as long as you absolutely must, and then hop right back.

I get what you're saying... Luke Skywalker and Emperor Palpatine are freaking caricatures of 'shiny white knight' and 'evil depraved villain' in the majority of their portrayals etc. It's nice to get someone with a bit less Superman and a bit more Batman; real flaws but still working towards a recognisable goal. Realistic characters you can relate to and shit.

On a completely unrelated note:

Xander gets a silly wig, a suit and goes dressed as this guy -

How about Xander dresses as the mayor of Sunnydale, Richard Wilkins the Third.

Xander never found a toy rifle at Ethan's Costume shop but he did find a vest with 4 odd removable metal tubes attached to it and on the plus side Ethan tossed in a toy revolver and sword if he is willing to take a black stuffed toy cat along with a generic black uniform that he had not been able to get rid of.

Cue Halloween night, A confused detective and his small mentor finds themselves in the middle of chaotic Halloween night.

:) Watch out Hellmouth, Raidou Kuzunoha the 14th gonna turn the place upside down. So pretty much a SMT: Devil Summoner crossover. Bonus points if Raiho actually makes an appearance.

To expand on an Idea I saw here I think, where Xander goes as a nobleman to go along with Buffy's and turns into the black dragon guy from WOW (Daval Prestor).

The gang gets a box of old time costumes that the Principle is forcing them to wear (could be due to the mayor's influence or or just plain bad luck) and each of the Scooby gang gets turned into some one crazy, really dark but not necessarily evil, or evil only with a theme. The costume's are originally for normal people, but instead they get possessed by:

Buffy's mom, Dawn, Jana, Cordelia, and Harmony could be included as well.

-Xander as a Dragon Age Origins version of Daval prestor. Xander doesn't absorb Daval's mind due to it being so alien to his own, but it's always there trying to drive him crazy and evil.

-Buffy as a upper end warrior type, only noble (to fit with her dress). Her slayer powers could be stronger here with more ambient magic around the world. Whoever it is must temper her attitiude, show her that killing people is the same as killing demons (some are good, some are better off dead)and teach her how to be a leader or have the ability to stop trying to be one if not. Possibly a slightly evil version of the female warrior Main Hero.

-Buffy's mom: Flemmeth from Dragon Age Origins

-Dawn Morrigan from Dragon Age Origins

-Giles as the Crazy Hermit (who steals the acorn) From Dragon Age Origins.

-Willow as the Hero's companion/(vassal?) assasin Zevran. This fits more as I see Willow as being loyal to Buffy and betraying her old associates (in this case Xander) whereas Zevran betrayed his former employer(owners?) and associates.

And just because:
-Andrew as a Mabari war dog (who stays that way afterward because he freaking deserves it, as a result he goes a little nuts due to his mind breaking) because he looses a bet with the other 2 idiots. Be creative with his costume, lol. One of the caster's could trun him into one when they see him acting like one. Since they never reverse it, it sticks.

Maybe sometime after Halloween (gotta give them time to screw up lots of plans) someone opens a portal and dumps them in a universe that there costumes could have come from. AU DA:O-verse if you like.

In the end none of them should go evil though just not shiny good anymore. Some will struggle more than others to keep from turning evil. many of their behaviors, morals, and/or Moray's will change (at least slightly) though.

I'm only about 20% of the way through the game so there maybe better choices I haven't seen yet.

Cracky Idea: When they land In DA:O someplace Xander ends up somehow with control over several darkspawn who he tries to control but won't do what he wants them to simply because they are interpreting what he says through their own twisted minds. If he tells them to be well behaved, they do so to the best of their ability, unfortunately being well behaved for them means lots of mischief, misery, and violence for others. Things of that nature.

How about Uncle from Jackie Chan Adventures...

We know that Neltharion became Deathwing, and that in an unknown event he lost his sanity.
what if said incident was the breaking of the janus bust, and the reason he lost himself was that he literally los a piece of himself.
i mean xan dresses as Neltharion, and instead of he becoming the dragon aspect, he is transported trough time/space to become a part of him, and in the middle of resisting the corruption the spell is broken...
Neltharion becomes DW, and xander returns "home" with all the memories of the dragon from the beggining tho the very end after the cataclysm

he would have the knowledge but he wouldn't be able to use it. Since (human) xander is just that human, and not a dragon aspect.

though even a being part dragon from WoW would put him pretty high on the power scale

and experience, also knowledge of a war on a level beyond anything we have seen in btvs, and how it was fought

Mwahahaha, fun idea that stays with the actual time line and such.

Xander goes and buys a blazer from the 80's at Ethans, and goes as a right proper british gentleman.

Turns out, it used to belong to Ken Akamatsu, and his story, Negima? Auto-biography.

Xander dressing as a mystical wizard, unfortunately, he ends up as Zordon of Eltar.

Unfortunately for him, he kept the ability to make power coins (and all 18 ranger coins due to a pouch of gold coins Xander had added to the costume [Original 5, green, white, the replacement coins, and the Aquitian ones]) while maintaining Zordon's desire to randomly recruit teenagers to become power rangers...

Not sure if this has been suggested, yet: Willow gets a long black wig, and a long black dress, and gets Xander a stick-on mustache, and has him wear a funeral suit, so they can go as Gomez and Morticia Addams.

Xander dressed up as the godfather, but since he also found a very cheap ring set to go with it, he turned into vongola primo.

I got one. Xander goes dressed as an old wizard, only the ceremonial robes he got? Ya those were RIPPER's
