I can see this Kyon as a detective. Or rather, a special operative sent in to handle weird shit. He's used to hit and happens to know more than regular people. And he gets the job done. He prefers to talk things over, but when you've got a goddess, the most advanced technology known to man, and a Data Entity on your side, you tend to be the one that walks away.

I was thinking it'd be Mikuru or Yuki. Haruhi is more of the type to hit someone over the head and glare at them until they apologize, and Koizumi would be the shadowy agent that gives Kyon a hint every now and then. With Yuki, the betrayal would be part of her conflicting loyalties to Kyon and the Data Intelligence (abbreviated). Mikuru would be either due to loyalty to a company/government she's high up in or love of someone else. This would actually be a very good piece of film noir.
