An Oldy but Goody

Because it didn't turn out to be as popular, probably. Bottom line and all that.

I haven't gotten a chance to play 2 yet, but I've heard a bit. I understand you actually end up fighting Caim at one point, and that can't be fun.

It isn't fun. Ever played a Dynasty Warriors game? Well, Caim in D2 is more or less like fighting Lu Bu's powered up form in Hu Lao's Gate. In other words, you have to fight flawlessly, because if you get caught in even ONE of his combos, chances are he'll kill you.

Ouch. It's KHII Sephy all over again. But without the no combo kill trick.

 Caim vs. Keitaro, assuming immortality. That could be funny, Caim chasing him around and trying to kill him just because he can't seem to. He'd end up shredding all the others in the process though.

And no, I haven't managed to play the Dynasty Warriors games. I'd like to, since everybody talks about them, but I haven't yet.

Ugh Lu bu, even with stats max leveled it's never a simple fight to beat him when he's super charged. But one thing i'll say about dynasty warriors for sure... after a sucky day you can't help but feel a little better when you single handedly kill thousands of enemies. Good stress relief.

Though another game that gets no fanfiction is the Fallout series... IMO some of the best PC rpgs with a huge open world, lots of characters and backstory and yet next to nothing fic wise. it boggles my mind. Maybe when fallout 3 comes out in a few years it will regain popularity (it's being made by Bethesda of 'elder scrolls' fame)

Dynasty Warriors (Sangoku Musou): Play 3 and 5, skip 2 and 4. DW5Empires is good, from what I've seen.

Also there are the Samurai Warriors (Sengoku Musou) games. 1 was decent, the expansion made it better, but 2 kicks ass.

And then there's the new one in Japan, Orochi Musou. It's a crossover between Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors, due to a time distortion caused by Orochi (the one from the Izumo legend) and Da Ji (China's legendary demon fox woman who brought about the end of the Tang). It uses a three-man partner-swap system, which is interesting. The gameplay looks good, too, from what I've seen on YouTube.

Now, that being said, why is there no decent fanfiction of the Koei games? All I've ever seen are high school fics and yaoi. *shudder*

If we're talking about fanfics for old games why not go all the way and try comix zone and Vectorman? those two were gems and plenty wierd enough for crack-fics

Comix zone had your basic streetfighting comic artist being sucked into his own book becuase the villan he created was so EEVIILL that he tore open the fabric of reality.

Vectorman had a transforming robot fighting his lord and master who'd gone mad because his head had been replaced by an unexploded nuke in a freak accident.

On a more recent note; the legacy of kain deserves fanfiction that isn't full of gay people. I mean the story is brilliant but WHERE DO THEY GET THE IDEA THAT Raziel and kain are gay?! WHERE!?

One game that screamed fanfic was Radiata Stories.

And there isn't any, or at least not good ones that I'm aware of.

Hell, Radiata Stories inspired the very first fanfic idea I ever had. I never wrote it, but it still has that honor.

Reading through this thread I wonder why people willingly play games such as Drakengard.

Seriously, this sounds more fucked up than End of Evangelion, less cheery than the end of Chrno Crusade and as friendly and welcoming as Berserk.... all at once.

In that case... GH, do you know where I can get a ROM of that game? Please, I'm horrible at finding working ROMs.

Edit: Or anybody who knows where I can get a copy?

it is, it really is.

I myself bought and played this game. I bought it becuase it promised a challenging story and cool-ass battles involving dragons and whole armies interspersed with pretty FMV's.

The thing is drakengard delivers these things but in a monkey paw sort of way; teh biggest challenge the story presents is wokring out what the hell the writers were thinking, the fun has been sucked out of the battles so completly it feels like you're stuck in the first boss battle of ninjia Gaiden black FOR ALL TIME!

The Amv's were pretty. some disturbing but they at least were pretty
