Disclaimer: Me owning Naruto is about a likely to happen as Sasuke and Itachi discussing the benefits of the Oiroke no Jutsu over tea and crumpets while dressed in orange jumpsuits and wearing pink wigs. If you honestly think this is likely to happen, then please get off my planet.

Chapter 2: Mending Broken Promises

Stepping into the hospital room, Mitarashi Anko looked at the only bed inside, a room she herself was familiar with. It was the room the hospital saved for patients that they were forced to help... ones whose reputations discomfitted the populace, making treating them a chore.

.... after the first time waking up in this room, Anko made damn sure that she was good enough to stay far away from the hospital. Or at least make sure she made nice with medic-nin on missions.

Shaking her head to clear the resurging memories of the past, Anko swore softly under her breath and decided to give the cause of these re-awakening memories a hard time. Putting on her best 'I don't wanna be here, but since I am you are gonna get it' face, she glared at the blonde haired kid laying on the bed. It was all HIS fault she was here, remembering things she didn't want to... only to see something that all her years of being Orochimaru's student could never prepare her for...

Yes, stopping it here for good reason.

What should Naruto be doing? I have the scene and interactions more or less playing out in my head. but the initial shock should be something big.

Naruto failed Mikoto, in his opinion. What should he be doing aftetr waking up in the hospital, most likely tied down to insure he doesn't leave? Screaming bloody murder? Breaking through his bonds? Cutting himself in an emo-fashion?

Input is what I seek for folks ^^

Muttering to himself.

Something like 'I failed her, she died. But I'll bring her back, yes. I'll find a way. I don't care what I have to do, I'll find a way.'

Utterly creepy Orochi-speak.

no no make him throw himself into his anatomy research, this in turn can lure hinata to his side, seeing him study like that because of his failure to save her (obviously the rest of the village heard of this)

He had obviously already broken his bonds, and Anko sees him walking away, dragging a gigantic Ice Chest behind him.

*Open's Ike's ice chest, "Mikoto-san, could you please hand me a pepsi?"
A slender pale fingers with crimson nails clutching a bottle of the aforementiond drink arise from it, "Thank you, Mikoto-san", the hand gives a thumbs up before disappearing back into the ice chest, closing the lid behind it.*

I kind of picture Naruto switching from raging against the restraints, to crying and speaking almost incomprehensably before in a subdued manner asking what Anko wants. Because Anko is sensitive and understanding, she'll reply, "I want dango."

Well, back when we were discussing on AIM ways to make the next sections work, we came upon the stumbling block of how Naruto would get Mikoto's body out, and keep it preserved until he could learn enough to actually use it.

The obvious choice, to me, was to somehow freeze her.

But there arent that many ways to keep a body cold while moving it if your on foot.

An Icebox would be perfect.

Plus, it adds so much hilarity....

It just spiraled out from there.

Anko sees a handmade card, with the simple message of: Screw you, meanies!

This, of course, is the only thing on the bed, the bed being the only thing left in the room. Other then the large hole in the wall, and the fading image of a green, screaming blur with an icebox strapped to its back, Naruto having convinced Maito Gai that his quest to pervert the laws of nature and revive Uchiha Mikoto is both incredibly youthful and something that will both amaze and defeat Hatake Kakashi.

Gai was, of course, only in Naruto's room because of a failed bet involving the movie "Patch Adams," the consequence involving Gai healing every patient with nothing but cheerful conversation and good humor. :D

You know, you may want to just do a timeskip to one or two years later and explore events after the massacre in flashbacks. . .

I tried something like that with one of my stories, and did not get a good response to it ... for some reason, some very eloquent readers disliked the sudden skip and lack of "showing".

It makes it impossible to track progress of characters, and thus, authors sometimes end up turning characters into uber characters when that wouldn't be possible without timetravel or a much longer time-skip.

*looks at his watch, looks at his calendar... then looks at his bound and gagged muse* Hmm... everything is in place. I guess I'm due for another snippet. Since it's been a while, I'll just repost the first part of the chapter...

That, and I'm fond of my disclaimer... gimme a break, between work, editting for Sigma-chan, and my muse running amuck, I barely have time to get ANY work done...

I also blame video games... damn Pokemon.... *grumbles and glares at his DS* Anyway... let's do this.

After hearing rumors of the brat, she thought the kid would be withdrawn and silent, or perhaps even snarling and struggling against some restraints, after reading up on the boy's reaction to anyone who tried to take the Uchiha corpse away from him. Instead, the atmosphere in the room was intense, almost stifling, as the boy merely sat still and stared straight at something on the wall across from him. Orochimaru himself would put this kind of aura out when he was concentrating on a particular experiment... to have soemone the brat's age putting out something like that was frightening to consider.

Clearing her throat to gain Naruto's attention, she made her way closer to the boy. He never once looked in her direction, favoring whatever it was he was staring at instead. When she reached the chair next to Naruto's bed, she took her eyes off the boy to get a good look at what he found interesting... only to see what appeared to be three different diagram posters, one showing the standard skeletal system, another thowing the muscular system.. and the last showing the internal organs found in the human body.

"I asked them to put those there." Naruto said, startling Anko a bit and drawing her attention to the boy. "It's amazing what they'll do for you if they think it'll keep you from distracting them." The boy's voice was.. calm... but held an intensity that matched the aura he put out.

Swallowing, Anko carefully sat down on the chair. Why the hell was the kid intimidating her?! The sooner she asked the damn questions and labled the kid as nuts, the sooner shew as out of here... unfortunately, Naruto interrupted the Special Jounin by speaking up again, his eyes never leaving those three posters.

"Nee-chan... Did you know that a Ninja's body contains secrets? From the callouses on their hands to the blood in their veins... everything about a Ninja contains a secret. I heard an Uchiha talking about it... " Slowly, Naruto turned his head to face Anko, those blue eyes of his seeming to stare right into her soul... gauging her, reading her like a book... She was no longer Mitarashi Anko, Special Jounin with a bad rep... but Mitarashi Anko, orphan and specially chosen Genin... "Do you think that the body contains the secrets to reviving the dead?"

Anko swallowed and slowly nodded. Seeing her reaction, Naruto lightly nodded in return before turning back to those posters. Shaking her head to snap out of her trance, Anko growled, feeling anger at herself rise. She was Mitarashi Anko, damnit! The loudest, flashiest and most importantly, self-proclaimed most dangerous kunoichi in Konoha! The kid was just a student, so there was no need to be all quiet like she used to be! The kid was not HIM! Standing up, she stomped her foot against the floor to get the kid's attention again. She would have preferred punching something.. but then, hitting the kid might interfere with his ability to speak.

"Ok punk, listen and listen good! I'll ask this once, and depending on your answer, you might live to see another day! What were you doing in the Uchiha Sector?!" Shouting helped to calm her nerves, bring her focus... the sound of her voice echoing in the room helped make her feel bigger, stronger. THIS was the attitude she needed! THIS was the real her!

Naruto took a moment to ponder the question, his head slightly tilting to the side. Everything about his actions pretty much contradicted what his file described his personality as, but Anko would make damned sure that this kid wouldn't intimidate her anymore! Shame she couldn't bring any weapons into the hospital though.

"I was following the Uchiha kid. I was stuck in my room for a few days, studying, and I felt the need to go out and have fun. A good prank was what I wanted, and the kid just made an ideal target at the time." Smirking, Naruto slowly looked up at the scowling Anko, his eyes glinting mischievously. "I was thinking of maybe decorating his house with some paint and TP... perhaps get the Police on the way out with itching powder in their uniforms... Nothing major. Only reason why I chose the kid was because he resembled alot of those police bastards who chase after me anyway." Naruto took a moment to frown... before giving a light snort and shaking his head. "Police bastards that CHASED after me...." he ammended.

So far teh story matched up with what his file said about his personality, but what he said needed more. "What were you studying brat? Does this have anything to do with that morbid speech you gave before?"

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

I'll add more in a bit.. perhaps tommorrow... or in a few days... but relatively soon ^^

Woo, update!

Yet, we need moar!

I do like the fact that he managed to creep out Anko and her angry, 'I'm meaner that you!' response.

Question is, will she be able to keep up her anger?

will there be a time skip once naruto begins the foundations of his new personality/goal?

Unfortunately.. POkemon will not duie until there are over 1,000 different kinds for kiddies to capture and obsess over....

Honestly.. why not stick with colors? Ruby and Sapphire I could understand.. but Diamond and Pearl? Yeesh...

As for Anko's anger... heh... you'll see...

And voidseeker, I am planning a little skip here and there eventually.

... just have to get there first.

I really gotta start reading author notes/disclaimers. It's gotten to the point where I skip over them without thinking about it now.
