ecs05norway, one little pick.

The Catch applies to Recovery and Toughness (inhuman, supernatural, etc.) powers, and can not reduce their total costs to less then 1 refresh point. I spent a long time, reading that page, considering it for myself.

At the moment you need to either reduce the bonus from The Catch, or increase the cost of your Recovery power.

Wildfeather. You need to have conflict in your first story. The "third story" isn't your origin (though it can be that as well) it's your first story, your first "book" so to speak. It's not "superman was rocketed from planet krypton as a baby" it's "superman issues #1, where he goes out and fights crime." Secondly it has to take place somewhere were we can cross over into it. A native american ground in NJ is interesting, but the action is in NO.

Also ecs05, you could upgrade it to supernatural. That would still leave you with two refresh. The only person who has more is me, and I've only got three.

Updated. Eagle added. Also, mark's aspects have been changed, will post new character sheet next. IÆve also included whoÆs crossover to help people who still need one. Please say if I've got anything wrong.

Also, a reminder on how crossovers work. You donÆt create a new story, you add yourself to someoneÆs existing story. Ergo, in order for people to cross over into yourÆs your phase three must have be you someplace someone can cross over. (Derek I modified yours slightly to conform to this.) Theoretically you should crossover with people who havenÆt had one, but I think NugarÆs been playing loose with this. Just remember, in order to generate the aspects, you need to write yourself into someone elseÆs story.

I still need someone to guest star in my story.

EDIT: And, my template is custom, not one from the book. Go with Wilder or something. <_<

Mark Guilder, Pure Mortal
High Concept: Honest Auditor
Trouble: Corrupt Bureaucracy

Phase One:
Mark grew up to lower-middle class parents, who raised him to be honest and hardworking, lessons he took to heart. He did well in school academically but did not participate in many external clubs. He excelled in math class, despite good grades, he would always be the last to finish any in-class assignment or test do to his careful checking and rechecking.
Aspect: Meticulous fact-checker

Phase Two:
After graduating from college with a degree in accounting, Mark joined up with the New Orleans government thanks to a good initial salary. It was only after he joined up that he found out how corrupt it was and it found out how honest he was. His job has been a constant state of warfare ever since. Any normal person would have left or been fired, but Mark is far too stubborn to let a little adversity slow him down, and his honesty and hard work makes it impossible to find a justifiable for firing him, especially in the wake of recent scrutiny after Katrina.
Aspect: Stubborn and uncompromising

Phase Three: Audit #666
The daily grind changed when he investigating something he shouldnÆt have. Exactly what can wait until we work out the story, but maybe it was a company, maybe it was a politician receiving bribes, maybe it was money allocation for Katrina rebuilding. Either way, people warned him not to mess with it, but he's been warned before, only this time the people behind it were supernatural. With the help of more combat oriented people he managed to survive and get the financial records.

Unfortunately when he tried to show the proof to the city/courts, the red court managed to bribe or intimidate the judges, auditors and anyone else.. There was enough ambiguity that he could be fire either. Now he holds on to them, both as a reminder of how the supernatural can evade the system, and because records should always be kept, you never know when they might be useful...
Aspect: Financial Records of Corazon en Paz Case

Phase Four:
When the Red Court sent a ghoul minion down, Mark had to admit he was terrified. The thing wasn't skilled, but it was so.... inhuman. Mark sought help from a well know local mercenary, David Masters. However, David was unable to help at Marks price range, but directed him to Derek Matherson.

Derek Matherson agreed to help for no reward, surprising Mark. They set up an ambush and Mark, having recovered his wits, let the final "ghoul" (as he learned they were called), get away in order to track it back to the person who hired it.

Aspect: Collector of information

Phase Five
During one attempt to infiltrate Corazon en Paz, Mark was forced to retreat unexpectedly after he was spotted by a young 20 something year old man, Fredrick ôFinnö Finnian. Unfortunately he dropped one of his contact cards. (Mark has since learned to to bring contact cards when trying to infiltrate)

When the kid started coming to his office asking about his court case, Mark got angry, and worried believing him to be another agent of the red court. But this was a full building, and guards were right near by, so Mark wasn't going to give in. The clash of wills went back and forth until Finn accidental revealed his fairy nature and yelled at Mark for not helping him take out Corazon.

At that point Mark realized that they were enemies Finn could be helpful to his ongoing investigation of Corazon en Paz. The two infiltrate the main office. Conflicting goals lead to them splitting up, Mark beliving Finn's vengeance quest to be foolish quest of a stupid young man. Mark was later forced to somewhat revise that when Finn saved him from a red court enforcer. Mark later helped Finn escape the scene without leaving any evidence, and managed to get the records he needed, but still feels humbled by the experience.

Aspect: Stiff and Serious

Skills
Great:
Scholarship(Great)- Mark's an accountant, and a very good one.
Investigation (Good)- Mark has a very good head for details, and has only gotten better thanks to his crash course in the supernatural.
Conviction(Good)- Mark managed to endure years of working in NO without giving up or going corrupt.
Contacts (Fair) - While not exactly "street smart" Mark is very familiar with the Government bureaucracy of NO.
Discipline (Fair)- Again Mark has managed to endure years of working in NO without giving up or going corrupt.
Empathy (Fair) - While overly series himself, Mark has a fairly good grasp of how other people work. If he could get over his own stiff nature, Mark would be a master manipulator.
Guns (average) - Since his encounter with the Ghoul, Mark has taken up gun training, and is rarely without a pistol.
Driving (average)
Resources (Average) - While a civil servant's pay isn't great, Mark is good at investing and saving what he has.
Burglary(Average) -His careful and detail oriented nature means he's okay at picking a lock. If he could get over his own uncomforted with it, he'd be great.

Stunts

Audit ôOnly the have anything to fear from the lawö but the corollary to that is ôeverybodyÆs guilty of somethingö. Mark can meticulously look over financial records, and anyone who has a tax audit knows how scary that can be. Even entities that have little to fear from the law may find ità incontinent. Mark may use his scholarship to substitute for intimidation when the interaction involves money*.

Hmmm, Interestingà.. The only thing worse than being audited is having someone find something, and Mark is very good at finding things. When using Audit, after making a successful social attack roll, Mark may spend a Fate point to increase his intimidation by +3.

Head for numbers: Mark was always good at math. When using investigation or scholarship for any sort of number related activity, (financial auditing, math problems) Mark gets +1 to his role and arrives at his conclusion one step faster on the time table

Person of Conviction Your social presence is tightly rooted in your identity as a person of deep faith. You may use Conviction instead of Presence to determine your social stress capacity (page 137).

I'm with the government: Those aware of the supernatural in the New Orleans government are rare. And those who are honest are rarer. Mark's looking for both, but hasn't found many, though he has made a lot of other contacts along the way. When dealing with governments official Mark has a +2 to contacts.

Stress
Mental 0000
Physical 00
Social: 0000

Total Refresh Cost: -3 (Pure Mortal)

*Or equivalent quantifiable things of value, such as favors for fae.

Maquis, I modified the crossover slightly so that you were crossing over into my story. We were infiltrating at the same time, I retreated, you found my some identification I dropped and confronted me in my office. From there it's the same as before.

Umm.. I hate to correct you, but that IS how crossovers work. You create a new story featuring others, and put it on your character sheet in the fourth and fifth phases respectivly. In the rulebook, the example they use is Harry Dresden. In the main story slot, they use Storm Front, but in the fourth and fith phase slots they use Restoration of Faith and Welcome to the Jungle.

And Nugar? I'll contact you on AIM as soon as my desktop is fixed. Right now I'm on my laptop, which has ungodly tempermental internet.

My understanding was that 'Restoration of Faith' was Murphys' first story, into which Harry has a cameo. 'Welcome to The Jungle' was Will Rogers first story, into which they both appeared.

Edit:"In this phase, you tie the group together by having each character contribute a minor, supporting role in another characterÆs first adventure." Page 61

Maquis is absolutely correct.I specifically talked this over with Nugar in an aim conversation before posting this to check if my interpretation was right.

That means everyone should actually have a total of four cross overs.

1)Person A crossing over into your story.
2)Person B crossing over into your story.

3)You crossing over into story "1"
4)You crossing over into story "2"

Of those, only 3 and 4 count as phases on your character sheet and give you aspects. Furthermore while the person from 1 & 2 cannot be the same. And the story from 3 & 4 cannot be the same. You can cross over into into a story of someone who crossed over itno yours however this is not a requirment. (In the example, Dresden crossed over into murphy's story, "Restoration of Faith" and then Murphy crossed over into his story, "Storm Front")

Whee, I'm back and mostly no longer sick, compy on the other hand... Spooky and I have mostly done up our crossover, though the aspect thing...

And clock, the way you phrased that...are you sure? Maybe I'm reading what you said wrong. I'll pull out the rules later, but I thought it was:

Your First Story! Guest Starring!

Someone Else's Story! Guest Starring You!

Your Second Story! Guest Staring Someone Completely Different!

Nugar

He's right. The idea is, not everyone is a huge writer. So you only have to create one story that stars your character. Then you guest start TWO other people into that story. They get secondary aspects from their roles in your main story. Then they, or others, put you in their main story. And you get your secondary aspects from your guest starring roles in those stories.

The Welcome to the Jungle and Restoration of Faith stories were actually shitty examples in the text, but they're used as being the first, main character story of Will Rogers and Murphy.

It's not going to matter too much, since you're basically picking out your secondary aspects anyway. I'm not going to get all up in your grill about it one way or another.

Unless you have steaks cooking. Man, I'd get some serious waffle grid burns on my ass for a steak right now.

Am broke and hungry. :(

I don't need any, but since you derive aspects from crossing over into other people's stories, you can crossover into mine. Technically you're only supposed to have two people cross over into each, but we've already bent the crossover rules to the breaking point. At this point long as

A-you meet someone else
B-you write up an aspect

I don't think Nugar cares

There a real problem you have with crossovers, your story really doesn't make it easy. People can't help/hamper you because it's self contained (you go to mountain, meet spirit), almost by definition someone else cant be their. Added to that is the problem is isn't set in new orleans. And finally their's no conflict, no struggle. Go up mountain, meet spirit go down.

The basic problem is this is an origin, not your first story. Essentually, for phase three, what you have to ask yourself is "would this make a good book? The story so far.. maybe some sort of psychological thriller, but not the aritty urban action of the dresden verse.

My suggestion, (just a suggestion). Add another section, tell us why you came to new Orleans, what you were after, what you are fighting. Give us a reason your character is here, that makes crossovers easier. People know my character wants take down Corazon en Paz while dealing with the supernatural for the first time. Finn wants to avenge his best friend killed by the red court. Alec wants to fightthe voodoo cult. Derek want to find info on the white court that killed his father (prepare to die!). etc

As of right now we have no idea what your character wants, or how they interact with the supernatural and that makes thinking up any proposed crossovers hard.

Sure, why not.

Also, I just want to remind people, if you haven't actually talked to me in person over a chat, you really need to do so or the quality of focus you and your character get will be sadly lacking.

I can't make sure I tailor a situation in such a way that you feel like a main character if I don't have a better idea of what makes YOU tick, not just the description of what your character gets up to.

Also, I want everyone to start posting likely times they'll be available for a pregame session.

This is mostly to see if people actually CAN get together, and also to iron out the guest starrings and suchlike. I see a couple of people haven't been included for theirs so that needs to get fixed.

Currently, I'm free literally anytime, becuase I still do not have a job. What say... Who can be free Wednesday or Thursday night of this coming week? Preferably Wednesday, if all goes well we can have an actual game Thurs or Friday nights.

Also post your location/timezone. I'm US central.

Remember that the definition of compromise is making everyone equally unhappy.

All right. You're a cop, and I've got contacts in city goverment (I am city goverment) so some sort of crossover there if possible.

Personally I'd suggestion contacting Nemi and lord geryron. Nemi's charecter is a former juvie who is having his mates murdered, there would seem to be a lot of potential for crossover there, tension between cop and juvie, maybe the rest of the department doesn't want to help. Lord geryron is fighting a voodoo cult for his first adventure, so yeah... The added advantage is as far as I know both of them still need a cross over.

Not exactly a cop, but pretty close. Criminal Psychologists generally interview suspects in order to see if they have any psychological disorders that would bar them from being fit to stand trial.

I work 8am-6pm M-W, so my free time those nights is only 7-11 or so.
Thursday and Friday I get out earlier and start later, so I'm more open. 6:30-12 is not impossible.
Saturday can be a bit unpredictable, but it's the best day for late-evening play. Say, 8-2 or the like.
