Ranma ½ Frustration

I had been leaning towards this for -a- while now, but the recent thread at Ranma 1/2 Previews; Leaf, has made this desicion for me. I won't be posting any of my works at this site (except co-authored works with Fosfor) any more.
My NEW home: http://z3.invisionfree.com/FanFictionFeder...dex.php?act=idx
(it's moderated, for one... and i know the moderators... so does Fosfor.)
Sorry, but if I wanted flames, I'd go start a fire with real wood.

Here and there, Wild Honor, Balance of the Force, and Deceptions are the three that were on here.

Meh. Goodbye threads are lame. If I were going to leave I'd just do it.

Not quite goodbye, just informing people where my updates can be found. I'll still lurk, but I"m NOT going to basically post flamebait for certain people, period... and since I'm moving THOSE off, might as well move my previews completely.

Sigh... I've not been posting in that thread but have been monitoring the 'conversation' such as it is... well, except to post a brief note of support and a comment that my not reading it had nothing to do with content, but merely with the crossover used (I do not read Naruto).

However... I can fully understand both his and even your disposition and sense of fustration over it. I myself have gotten a bit more fustrated at the direction some threads turn, the arguing, the snapping, tha sheer annoyance level, and other items. And I'm not even a writer myself.

Nobody seems to follow Thomas Paine anymore.

Top that with just this month alone the death of Anifics and the Abh Nation, the earlier this year stopping of stuff on EvaFics, and the later this year dissolution of Geocites... and it seems sometimes the entire fan fiction community is falling apart.

I've never gone to Abh Nation, and only infrequently saw anything from anifics, but the closing of GeoCities is quite disturbing. So many fanfictions are hosted that way. I feel like I should be searching out all of those sites right now to save files from them.

Does the Internet Archive store data from geocities?

I just looked at the Abh Nation, if they are leaving it up as an archive anyway, why shut it down? Also I think it amusing that the highest number of members online at once was after it was shut down.

Yes, it does. I have 2 that are Internet Archive/Wayback links now.

Currently, since finding out, I've reduced my own individual links to stuff on sites there from 68 (not counting the 2 Internet Archive links) to 44 (links, not authors/sites), moving the others to alternate links. I've fired off emails to around 30 authors/sites.

2 of the 30 responded back so far, neither had heard about it, but both had backups. 1 had stated if and when his home page died, he would move everything not already there to his FanFiction.NET account, which did not have everything.

7 of the 30 had delivery failure notices.

3 others, have no normal email contact methods in place. Though of the 3, 2 have a service that requires registration with to send them something, with the service acting as an intermediary.

I'm understanding of people being super critical about things. (My signature is a reminder of something important about fanfiction.)

However there is a difference between flaming a story for how it is made and what it is.
I'll admit certain threads had unneeded flames, but Leaf is just a random character crossed over to Ramna.

Basically I understand what you said, but you need a better example than 'Leaf' if you want people to feel bad.

Smile, it was SIMPLY the TONE. Not the complaints (which GOOD examples of valid C/C, even negative are Steel's or others) about it, it was HOW they were said. And oddly enough, that was the straw that FINALLY got not just me saying 'enough' but others.

I acutally started seriously consdiering leaving a WHILE ago.

So sad.
I did understand it was the tone of the environment, just being harsh about things. It is quite sad and it has happened in things I go to a lot more regularly than this site.

Anyways, leaving the site and attempting to get others to join, it is screwing over this site some. That is the problem with leaving then telling where you went and why you left.
Not blaming you, but if you stayed you could of weather out the problems and return to the original state. Don't let this happen to the other site.

No I don't think so sorry smile but with people like Chaos and Creation now being honored members on this forum I don't think it will get better. The second we allow trolls to join a forum and then laugh at what they say is the second I'm no longer sure I wish to be here.

True enough I suppose.
Chaos and Creation isn't a real troll though, he just acts the part. I could see how people wouldn't like him though.
Just know when to make a stand and when to leave.

C&C actually has gotten better since people stopped bickering against him. It's actually a means of dealing with him, by no longer getting in pointless bickering matches, he isn't as bad as he was before.

Simple tactics really.

Sorry I don't see what your coming from here people because he isn't a real troll we should let him post whatever he wants? sorry thats the kind of thinking that just sounds retarded to me.

Honestly, I haven't seen C&C post in the Ranma section anyways.

He usually stays in the Naruto section where there is always some random crap that is not related to the topic, so his acting out isn't that big of a thing. Annoying, maybe. But not horrifically bad.

Edit: You are right, I shouldn't tempt him.

Eh, C&C officially established himself as a troll to my understanding after the bit with Lawra and the April fools joke.

I understand why you are leaving, so yeah, good luck on your fics and all that.

Will you post completed chapters att ff.net?
Given David Weber's stance on fanfiction, D, no.

"Don't show, don't tell"

He basically has a "don't post it where I can see it easily" rule.
