Alright. This story comes as a replacement for Leadership, that canon has screwed up for meà Well, not really, but the introduction of all the Kages and more details about the Jinchuuriki, Yagura in particular, made my story too different from Canon for me. So, since I had a huge AU setup in mind, I decided that I could use it to replace Leadership. The Jinchuuriki, all of them, will be in this, but not in the æMuppet BabiesÆ setup anymore. Also because that kind of setup would have taken much time to bring the story to the real fun. So, well, enjoy this new story. I hope you like this AU. I sure do.

Prologue

ôAlright, class. Settle downàö His words went over their heads like they had never been pronounced. The man sighed, since this was a common occurrence, with every single first year class he taught. He cleared his throat and raised his voice a little. ôClass, donÆt make me give you detention on the first day.ö That made the trick. The man smiled and rubbed the scar on the top of his nose before taking the last few steps to his desk.

ôSo, itÆs your first day of school. ItÆs tradition that I narrate a story. A story that can answer many of the questions that you have about our village.ö The man said, settling down on the desk the classroomÆs register, and fixating his eyes on the rows of children in front of him. ôWhy everyone but a few adults are forbidden of going out of the village. Why there are many parts of the village that are crumbling, about to fall apart. Why thereÆs that big hole in the mountain that destroyed three of the four faces carved there.ö

Saying this, the man rotated his had so that the gaze was shifted to what they could see out of the window. Indeed, there was a mountain were once four great faces had been carved of four great men, but now the first two and part of the third one had been wiped out by an enormous explosion, if the size and shape of the æholeÆ was any indication. It was like an angry ogre had decided to eat part of the mountain. He then returned his gaze to the young children. ôWell, open your scrolls and we will begin reading.ö

All the children obeyed, some whispering to each other as they opened their identical scrolls, all with the same title: æHistory of KonohaÆ.

--

The Hidden Village in the leaves originates 64 years ago, from a time where ninjas still lived mostly in clans, waging war with each other over power and territory. In the fire country, two clans were the most prominent and powerful: the Senju Clan and the Uchiha Clan.

These two clans, led by their leaders, Uchiha Madara and Hashirama Senju, had been in conflict for long time, but in the end they reached a peaceful agreement: unite their clans and many of the other ones in the fire country in a single military organization: Konohagakure, the first hidden village in the story of the Elemental Countries. This truce found its only enemy in Madara, and this was proven even more when he decided to challenge Hashirama for the leadership of Konoha, for the title of the first Hokage. He challenged him alone, since no Uchiha would back him up, accusing him of wanting to reignite the flames of war.

Madara was defeated and believed killed, only to reappear many years later. The second Hokage, the younger brother of Hashirama, offered the Uchiha clan the position of the Konoha Police Force, as a symbol of trust on the surface, but the real reason was so to control the Uchiha clan and keep them out of KonohaÆs governing. Many of the clan members realized this, but too late. The Senju had become the predominant clan in the village even if their bloodline was disappearing, and the Uchiha, so easy to follow in their leaderÆs footsteps, were discriminated and secluded. [à]

The ultimate demise of the once proud Konohagakure came eight years after the attack of the Kyuubi and the death of the Yondaime, under the second reign of the Sandaime. The Uchiha clan had never forgotten the grudge and the offence of years before, and the fact that many began to suspect that behind the demonÆs attack there was the Uchiha clan didnÆt help, their bloodline being the only one left apart the extinct Senju one able to control the Bijuu.

The current leader of the Uchiha, Uchiha Fugaku, became the ring-leader of the planned coup dÆÚtat that would shake the village foundation. He used his talented son, Uchiha Itachi, as a spy, using his position in the ANBU and the high spheres of the village at the young age of 13 to gather information. Uchiha Itachi though was a pacifist, and unknown to his clan he became a double agent for the village. The Sandaime, Sarutobi Hizuren, tried to negotiate with the clan, but time was running short, and his advisors overrun him. Uchiha Itachi, the most talented and powerful of the Uchiha, was ordered to wipe out his entire clan. His reaction and consequent course of action is comprehensibleà

--

ôà Whyàö They say that men as in males are allowed to cry just in few occasion. In most peopleÆs opinion, itÆs just a joke, bull. Everyone has different feelings and reasons for crying. This was one of them for Uchiha Itachi. A lot of pressure have been applied on the thirteen years old. First his clanÆs plan for a coup dÆÚtat, then the village asking him to be a double-agent to which he had agreed because he loved peace. Now they had given him the order to kill his whole clan because the Hokage couldnÆt start a negotiate with the elders. The event that had just transpired was the proverbial last drop.

His cousin who he loved like an older brother, Uchiha Shisui, had discovered something about him. Maybe just a small detail of his life as a double-agent, but enough to meet him in an isolated place and start to question him. He knew that he had influence on the elders. He was his last hope. He told him everything, and he had attacked him. He had seen the killing intent in his eyes, his fury. He was forced to kill him and because of that he was crying, filled to the brim with guilt. ôWhy did it have to come to this?!ö

He slammed his fists on the ground, shouting at the lifeless body of his cousin. He hiccupped and then saw his hands, dirty with the older manÆs blood. He had seen blood on his hands, but never the blood of a loved one, of family, of someone so close. He shivered and went to the nearby stream to clean himself. He splashed his hands and face with water and then he noticed something. ôWhatàö He had seen something different in him, in his eyes. His Sharingan was different. It was like the three tomoes had enlarged and taken a triangular shape. ôThisàö

ôCongratulations, young one. You have awakened the final stage of the Sharingan.ö ItachiÆs head snapped up and he turned around in a flash, a kunai ready. A stranger had just appeared, dressed in large black and red robes, with a few pieces of armor, the shoulder pieces were the most prominent. His face was covered with an orange swirling mask. ôIt is something that few in our clan have achieved.ö

ôà Our clan?ö Itachi wasnÆt an ANBU captain for nothing. He had analyzed the strangerÆs words as they came out of its mouth. ôYouÆre anà Uchiha?ö

ôA most prominent one, even if my own kin has betrayed and shunned me decades ago. The only thing that now associates me with you and the others are the eyes we share.ö The masked strange replied, a gust of wind moving his long black hair. Itachi immediately connected the dots, as unbelievable as what he had just guessed sounded.

ôà Uchiha Madaraàö He whispered, but loud enough for the man to hear his words. The elder Uchiha nodded in approval.

ôYou really are the prodigy of your generation. I find pride in finding my blood so strong in one so young.ö Madara continued, but Itachi didnÆt relax at all. The elder man observed his surroundings. ôYouÆre shakenà I take it you didnÆt wish for his death?ö

ôà I donÆt wish for anyoneÆs death.ö Itachi said, his hand squeezing around his kunai.

ôAnd yet your clan plans to stage a coup that will tear Konoha in half, and the council asked you to wipe out your entire clan to avoid that. Either the blood of an entire clan, or the blood of part of the village. A though choice, child.ö Madara said, earning more squeezing from ItachiÆs part.

ôà I already have the blood of an Uchiha on my hands. A loved one. What will one more matter? My soul is damned.ö Itachi said, his teeth gritting.

ôDo not be foolish, young one. What has happened to your eyes should be enlightening enough.ö That was the first thing that surprised Itachi of all the words the Uchiha elder had said. ôThe Magenkyou Sharingan. It is not something that can be obtained by training of with time. You have to meet a certain condition.ö Itachi for maybe the first time in his life was drawing a blank. ôWhat emotion is wrecking your being right now, young one?ö

ôWhat emotionà The activation of this Magenkyou Sharingan requires an emotion?ö Madara emitted a muffled laugh.

ôIÆll give you a hintà I obtained mine when my brother offered me his life and his eyes.ö Itachi didnÆt understand what the man said with æoffered his eyesÆ, but he had enough hints to understand the rest.

ôItÆsà ItÆs guilt.ö Itachi stated, lowering his kunai. ôThe emotion that triggers the Magenkyou is guilt.ö

ôExactlyà Heh. You know, ninjas barely feel guilty about killing someone. Guilty as this. Otherwise, they would be unable to do their job. I wonderàö Madara paused for a few instants, weighting his thoughts. ôWhat would happen to you if you slaughtered your whole clan? How much guilt would you bear?ö

ôàö Itachi began to tremble, as images upon images began to fill his mind.

ôMaybe you could even unlock a new, more powerful Sharingan, who knows. Its evolution is a mystery to me as well.ö Madara continued, his affirmation more a joke than anything, but it had its effect on Itachi.

ôà Never again.ö Itachi let his kunai clatter to the floor as images of taking his motherÆs and brotherÆs lives fluttered in his mind. He didnÆt want to do that. He didnÆt want them to look at him with hate in their eyes and try to kill him. ôI will never soil my hands with Uchiha blood again.ö

ôOhhà So, youÆre going to go with your clanÆs plans?ö Itachi just walked past the elder Uchiha, stopping a couple meters behind him.

ôNo. I love my village, and I will never act in a harmful way against its people, but I will neither submit to the eldersÆ wishes and soil my hands with the blood of my own relatives.ö He spared one last glance at ShisuiÆs body before turning around again. Madara laughed.

ôUchiha Itachi chooses exile, then? A selfish choice or maybe the most normal one.ö Madara found this highly entertaining. ôYou said that you would never spill Uchiha blood againà Does that include me?ö

ôà Do you intend to do harm to the clan or the village?ö Itachi said, slowly turning around. He had no idea why the supposed dead patriarch of the Uchiha clan was in Konoha again, after all.

ôWell, I kind of wanted to offer you my help in wiping out the Uchiha clan, but your decision has made me thinkàö Madara stroked his chin right under his mask, which hid his vicious smile. ôYes, I think that the Uchiha will be more useful to my reasons alive, at the moment.ö

ôà What are your goals?ö Itachi asked, to which Madara replied with a round of laughter.

ôItÆs not like I can tell you, Itachi-kun. At the moment, the most pressing matter to you should be run away. When they find ShisuiÆs body, there will be quite the uproar, right?ö Itachi tensed and then disappeared in a cloud of smoke, knowing that Madara was right. There was going to be quite the uproar, and the Uchiha patriarch just couldnÆt wait to witness it.

--

He fled, he escaped, he chose voluntary exile. The choices were fighting against his village or erasing his whole clan. The proverbial rock and hard place. What possessed the HokageÆs counsellors to ask this of a thirteen year old pacifist, we will never know, but we do know what happened right after.

When the Uchiha heard of ShisuiÆs demise and ItachiÆs exile, everyone was quick to connect the two events together. The coup dÆÚtat failed, though, having already been exposed. What started a few days later was an all out war, with its battlefield being the village. The village was torn apart in every sense of the word: the ninja population split in two factions, those who still supported the Hokage and those who chose to help the Uchiha; the village itself was ravaged and destroyed, the most evident damage being the destruction of vast part of æMount HokageÆ. The fights lasted ten days. After that, both factions understood that a battle of attrition was useless, since there wasnÆt a Konoha to reign over anymore.

The Uchiha left for the east part of the Fire Country, the Hokage faction for the west part, leaving a torn apart Konoha with hundreds of thousands of civilian casualties to the survivors and the few ninjas who chose to protect instead of fighting, remaining true to KonohaÆs true spirit. Leaving them to savage and rebuild.

ôOutside of the village, the Uchiha and the Senju are still fighting, only their battlefield has extended to the whole Fire Country. Do you understand, now? And do you understand why now ninja training is obligatory for every child?ö The man said, looking around, finding the usual cluster of reactions: some scared children, some surprised ones, some angry ones, and of course the ones with questions. ôYes?ö

ôIruka-senseiàö A brow-haired girl said, raising her hand timidly. ôI wanted to askà I saw someone, an older boyà With lots of twins. Is that a ninja technique? Will we learn it?ö

ôAh.ö Iruka was a bit taken aback from the question, but a smile immediately came to his lips as he understood just who the girl was referring to and to what technique. The event that led to the meeting of the two factors was a dear one to him.

ôNaruto, you canÆt just go and learn one of the techniques written in that scroll! TheyÆre forbidden of a reason!ö

ôThen whatÆs the use in having this scroll?! ItÆs one of the few things that those damn village-breaking bastards have left us that can be used in some way!ö Iruka was stunned from the blond childÆs sudden outburst, but more so by the fire, the determination he saw in his eyes. ôThe village needs as many strong ninjas as possible, right?! I will be the strongest of the strong! I will do everything and take any risk! I will never let another tragedy like that of four years ago happen again! Ever again!ö

ôYes, that is a ninja technique that sadly only the person who you saw multiplied all over the place can use to its full potential, and no, you will not be learning that at the academy.ö The girl pouted and sat down. He shook his head and stifled a laugh. You amuse me even when youÆre not around, hn, Naruto?

Well, it's a logical possibility of what could've happened, but beyond that there's not much to say, yet.

Although, to be quite honest, I'm growing somewhat tired and annoyed of your apparent habit of dropping promising stories for (in my opinion) rather flimsy reasons.

Hundreds of thousands of civilian casualties? No way Konohagakure is that big. Maybe thousands of casualties? From the manga, Konoha seems to be more in the range of a large feudal town (couple thousand people max?) with a ninja force of about a couple hundred total (mostly chuunin).

No, going by the manga pictures Konoha is quite big; more a city than a town or village, iirc. Hundreds of thousands of casualties sounds a bit much, I agree, but it's not completely unreasonably that Konoha could have one or two hundred thousand inhabitants in total.

Seconded. It's AU for a reason, dude.

That's hard to say you never really get a good idea on the size of Konoha even in manga it looks like a city more then a village.

Hey guys give it a rest

So what if he dropped a story? He may decide one day to go back to it so just relax.

Very nice Meinos I don't believe I have ever seen this being done before so I will eagerly await the next parts.

Also how much hate does Naruto have towards Itachi in this?

And also which clans sided with the Uchiha and the Hokage? And which ones stayed behind?

I for one am glad that Leadership was dropped; the groundwork for the premise was poorly done, making the whole thing a bit weak, among other things that I found wrong with it. But enough about that.

So, what's the reason that Konoha hasn't fallen yet? What stopped Kiri, Iwa and Kumo from making sure that Konoha is no more?

I found the story that was narrated to the children a bit strange. What reason is there to go so deep into detail about things that don't really matter like Itachi's motivation, etc? Way too much detail for it to be realistic.

I have to agree with the amount of casualities being a bit off, if you're basing Konoha on its canon model.

why wouldn't a history class explain the motivations of a person that caused the biggest event since the founding of their nation?

How do you get Itachi causing that... seriously I got old people caused it. Put yourself in his shoes kill your family or... betray the village. Ninjas suck at math so of course they would give someone a double negative and expect a positive result we see this logic in a lot of their choices Itachi just had way better math skills and saw his only way out and took it.

Not saying I wouldn't do the same thing, but it was still his decision that led to the coup happening and everything going to hell

This is interesting. However, I am disappointed to see that the conflict was limited only to Fire Country. We'd better see another Great Ninja War in the next couple of chapters, such a ripe opportunity to wipe out what's left of Konoha and the Uchiha would not be missed by the other villages and especially not by someone like Orochimaru.

Oh, that's easy.

Konoha, as it is, has no real value at the moment.

It's BEEN destroyed. The civil war still rages, but Konoha no longer has any role in it, save perhaps as an ultimate symbol for when one side or the other wins.

Until then, another country trying to wipe out the ruined city would be putting a lot of effort into something with little reward, and a high risk of uniting the warring factions. Better, for them, to wait until one side wins... and then roll in and crush them before they can rebuild.

I'm guessing Konoha still nominally follow the Senju, and the Hokage (if he's still alive...) Or... are the remains of Konoha just overall sick of the war and considering themselves apart from both?

Alright, next snippet. Enjoy.

ôHmmàö HereÆs the spot. He picked one of the nails he was holding in his mouth and held it win one hand on the wood board he was holding with the other hand. ôAlright. Hammer it down.ö

ôAye, aye, boss.ö One of his ætwinsÆ held up the hammer over his head and then began to land clean, precise blows on the nail till it was safely put inside the board and the wall behind it. The original grinned and grabbed the nails left in his mouth with one of his hands, using that same hand to wipe the forehead that had escaped his bandana.

ôAlright. Another building successfully repaired for the one-man-work-force!ö He said with a grin, putting his utensils back into the pockets hanging by the back of his belt, before dispelling his clone in a cloud of smoke. He then began to look at his handiwork, the whole building they had finished repairing. He liked to look at everything from different points of view, including sticking horizontally to a wall. ôAnd just in time for lunch! Yay ramen!ö

ôIs that everything you think about when youÆre not being a workaholic?ö He rolled his eyes, expecting those words sooner or later. He had seen her arriving a few minutes before, after all. He crouched down against the wall and somersaulted, flipping in air a few times before landing just beside his æoffenderÆ, who was now staring at him from up to down, a teasing smile adorning her features. ôHonestly, youàö

ôAwww, but Ten-chan. Work makes one hungry, and ramen eaten after a day of hard work is the best tasting ramen in the world!ö He said, getting back up with a grin plastered on his face. The girl rolled her chocolate eyes and then brought to the front the bento she was hiding behind her back.

ôSince weÆre going to eat ramen this evening as well, for lunch youÆre going to enjoy my bento, and thatÆs final!ö She basically shoved the wrapped box in his hands, which he accepted unsteadily.

ôNeeeh, Ten-chan. You worry too much. As usualàö She bonked him playfully on the head with one hand.

ôSince you donÆt worry at all, I have to do double the work.ö She then grabbed him by his left arm and started dragging him towards the nearby park, which had a few vacant benches. They found one in the shade of a tree and they sat down on it right after. Naruto immediately set the bento down on his tights, unwrapped the box and clapped his hands a couple of times before grabbing his chopsticks and digging in with a loud æItadakimasuÆ.

TenTen grimaced at how piggish his manners were, being careful to not let flying rice get into her hair, but at the same time she couldnÆt fight back a light chuckle at how eager he seemed to eat her cooking. ôYou must be really hungry, canÆt be my cooking.ö

ôAhh, donÆt say that, Ten-chan. Your cooking is just fine, but you should maybe stop bringing me bento so often, you know.ö That made her confused and a bit upset, before he turned grinning to her. ôPeople could think you have a crush on me.ö

ôY-You idiot! What are you saying?!ö Naruto blanked as the girl blushed and suddenly materialized a kunai out of thin hair, throwing just beside his head. He knew that the girl would never hit him, having a perfect aim, but it still was frightening. She turned away from him as red as a tomato. ôGeez, and here I thought you didnÆt like having me aroundàö

ôTen-chan, that will never ever happen, and you know it. YouÆre my best friend.ö Good thing TenTen was giving Naruto her back, otherwise he would have seen her gagging face as clear as day, at the mention of those last two words. ôSo, how are things going at the forge?ö

ôPretty good, I must say.ö She breathed in and out silently, to calm down, thankful for the change of subject. She turned back to him with a bright smile. ôWeÆve finally managed to make a stamp for something more than kunai and shuriken. We will be able to produce more tantos from now on. Gotta have something more than kunai to defend yourself at close range.ö

ôEhehehà And I bet that youÆre the one who gave the finishing touch, hn? You know weapons the best.ö Naruto said, flashing her a grin. TenTen smiled while the blush was reduced to a little flush, because of his praise. ôMeet TenTen. Weapon-master kunoichi and forger extraordinaire.ö

ôStop flattering me about my knowledge about weapons, or my lips will break in half because of all the smiling.ö TenTen said, stretching her arms over her head. Now she was the one who needed to change the subject, both because he was embarrassing her but at the same time even if he complimented her it wasnÆt for that reason. Naruto was just that nice of a guy. ôWellà I guess itÆs one of the few things that this situations has brought us.ö

ôà Yeah.ö NarutoÆs face became serious at that, and he bit slowly into a rice ball, observing the children playing with their various toys, and a couple more were putting a broken swing back into shape, and other yet practicing with wooden kunai. ôForcing everyone left in the village to learn both ninja skills and a set of normal ones.ö

ôYeahà Incredible, hn? WeÆre teens and we could already run our own activities.ö TenTen said, observing a bench that Naruto himself had built.

ôIn a normal village. Here we have to share everything to survive. Eight years of hell because of those selfishàö Naruto bit back a curse, his mood taking a turn for the worse. It couldnÆt be helped, it always happened every time he thought of the selfish reasons that had brought the Uchiha to try a coup. ôSorry, butàö

ôI know, I know. You get angry every time you think about it.ö TenTen knew that Naruto was angry at the people who had left Konoha in that state, and would always be for as long as they kept on hurting its citizens. Though, there was something else about Naruto that made him different from most of the other inhabitants left in the village. Naruto didnÆt just blame the Uchiha, he blamed the Senju as well, mainly because they had been the ones to start the two weeks long war that destroyed the village he lived in. They attacked first, deliberately endangering the civilians.

ôà And to think I wanted to become Hokage.ö Naruto said, laughing bitterly right after. TenTen cringed, becoming sad. It must have been hard losing his dream, the people he looked up to and one of the few who treated him as a human being all in once.

ôYou still thinkàö TenTen tried to say, but Naruto turned to her sending the sharpest stare his 16 years old eyes could muster.

ôWhat else can I think?! He ordered to attack the Uchiha compound without even evacuating the village or something! There has been tens of thousands of deaths! An Hokage is supposed to protect the village! The village is the people that live in it, not a mountain or a name or power! I donÆt know his reasons, but that was his decision!ö Naruto barked out in a loud enough voice for a couple of birds to leave the tree they were under. That seemed to make the blonde notice just how high his tone had been in those last few seconds, and to who he was directing them. He turned his head away, feeling ashamed. ôSorryà I raised my voice.ö

ôItÆs okay. As you said, though, the Hokage is supposed to protect the people of the village, and the Sandaime has never done anything but that.ö TenTen replied, used to NarutoÆs sudden outbursts. The blonde boy groaned.

ôI knowà And thatÆs what makes me even more angry.ö Naruto shook his head, trying to clear his head from those kind of thoughts. Then he finished his lunch and hopped back on his feet. ôWell, gotta go now. IÆve got a few repairs to do at the school. Thanks for the lunch, Ten-chan.ö

ôEhm, Narutoàö Naruto stopped walking before even beginning to do so. He turned to face TenTen again, who was again a bit flushed. ôYou know what day is tomorrow, right?ö

ôUh? Well, yes. It would be strange if I didnÆt, right?ö Naruto said, ever the jester.

ôYou know, I kind ofà Made you a present, soàö TenTen looked for a few seconds at the ground before getting back on her feet as well, her face a bit tense. ôWhat about I give it to you over dinner, tomorrow? My place?ö

ôà Eh?ö Ever the smooth talker, Naruto. Can one really blame him, though? His reaction was to just say that syllable and then stood there, flushed and paralyzed, which led to TenTen flushing even more.

ôD-DonÆt just stand there! Say something! You have no idea how many days IÆve rehearsed thisàö Stop and comedy blinking eyes. Insert covering of face with both hands to cover tomato-face. ôOh, god. I canÆt believe I said that loudàö

ôEhmàö That seemed to break Naruto out of his embarrassment-induced paralysis. He brought a hand to the back of his head, looking around, as if to find the words. ôà Sure, IÆll be there at seven?ö

ôà Thanks.ö She smiled and then was out of there as soon as possible, a smile now plastered on her face. Naruto watched her go, his right hand still on the back of his head.

ôà Her place?ö NarutoÆs mind began to fill with fitting images. He shook them off with a shake of his head. ôImpossible. Ten-chan just wants me to give up ramen, I guessàö Like I could ever do thatà

--

After the æbattle of KonohaÆ, the Senju faction had left for the west part of Konoha, a comprehensible course of action, since in that direction was a secret part of what were once the clanÆs grounds. The Konoha shelters carved inside mount Hokage had been shaped after that part: a set of tunnels and caves dug out in the inside of a mountain, with a few holes in the mountain tops to provide light in the æcommon areasÆ. Easy to defend, easy to place sentinels on to spot incoming enemy parties. Well, normal ones. Ninjas are a bit more difficult to detect, but it didnÆt matter. The Uchiha had never tried going for the Senju headquarters in eight years since they took the fight to the whole fire country, and they werenÆt going to try anytime soon.

ôAre you absolutely sure about this, Hiashi?ö One of the common rooms had a particular importance. It had been covered with a dome of unbreakable glass like every other one, but this one had from time to time, double the number of sentinels. It was the council chamber, where the leaders of the Senju faction met.

ôAbsolutely sure, Hokage-sama.ö The council was made of the heads of the various clans that made up the Senju faction. Among these there was the Hyuuga clan, which was maybe the most important component of the faction. The Senju clan as in, people possessing the ShodaimeÆs bloodline limit were no longer existent, but going against the Uchiha, a clan where almost every member possessed the Sharingan, fabled as the strongest bloodline limit existent without another large group of limit possessors was a chimera. ThatÆs where the Hyuuga came in, being loyal to the Hokage, possessor of another strong bloodline limit, the Byakugan, and rivals of the Uchiha once the Senju disappeared, once contending with them the title of strongest clan in Konoha. His head was Hyuuga Hiashi. ôThe ninja we have made contact with during one of our patrols, one resident in Konoha, has provided photographic proof of it. The forbidden scroll wasnÆt lost during the attack. It survived the collapse of Hokage tower.ö

ôIt is priority that we retrieve it before the Uchiha know of its existence, then.ö The head of the Nara clan and the SenjuÆs master strategist, Shikaku, offered his opinion on the matter. ôThe scroll contains many techniques that were they to fall into the UchihaÆs handsàö

ôThatÆs not the only reason the scrollÆs retrieval is a priority, though. Right, Sarutobi?ö The Hokage didnÆt reply to DanzoÆs words. His mind was elsewhere as he kept his eyes fixed on other photographs that had been taken to him. Images of a blonde teenager with whiskers-like birthmarks on his cheeks. A teenager who was all over the place. At the same time.

ôà The young Uzumaki. HeÆs alive, thenàö Choza, head of the Akimichi clan was observing one of the photographs that the Hokage had already seen. ôAnd not only that. He is using the Kage Bunshin. He has access to the scroll.ö

ôSarutobi, in that scroll thereÆs the technique that sealed the Kyuubi in his body and the way to break it, right?ö Danzo continued, urging an intervention from the Hokage.

ôà What arrangements are we to make?ö The Hokage said, his tired voice the only thing betraying his age.

ôThe man just wanted to join our cause, Hokage-samaà With a few privileges. He just waits a message via traveller bird to initiate the recovery of the scroll. We would extract him a few kilometres away from the village.ö Hiashi continued, his voice as cool and stoic as one man could muster.

ôà I donÆt want any unnecessary casualties. Fast, stealthy.ö The Hokage said, getting slowly up from his chair and grabbing a hold of his walking cane that he used to walk out of the chamber, helped by one of his two attendants. ôSolve this matter with the most haste.ö

--

After the Hokage left, each other member of the council left the room, most alone, two together. Shikaku and Choza. Best friends, member of a trio that was famous in Konoha. A trio that broke up when the village broke up.

ôà Have you seen his face?ö Choza said, ever the sensitive man. The Hokage had started showing his age ever since the battle of Konoha, but in that meeting he had seen him even more tired and old than usual.

ôHe thought him dead, Choza. He has always thought of that child as his responsibility. When the Hokage tower collapsed with him inside it, everyone believed the kid to be dead.ö Shikaku replied, as the two walked through the tunnels, lighted only by never-ending flames. Bless ninja techniques. ôAnd now he discovers heÆs alive and he will never be able to talk to him again, and on top of that heÆs going to take away from the village something that he and the others have been probably using to survive. Did he ever tell you about their last meeting?ö

ôà Yes.ö Choza shook his head while opening the door to his private room. He collapsed onto his bed, feeling suddenly tired as well. That battle had taken a lot from them, and a lot more was going to be taken away. ôà Why did the Uchiha have to be such nutcases, Shikaku? Why did we start this absurd war?ö Shikaku chose silence, seeing that Choza still hadnÆt finished his talking. ôIf it never happenedà We would still be Ino-Shika-Cho trio, my wife would have never died and our boysàö

ôà War brings that and much more.ö Shikaku went for ChozaÆs cabinet. He knew where he kept the strong stuff, and he needed it that much at the moment. ôAnd I can assure you that if we do not find something to break this stalemate that has been going on for more than 4 years, it will not end anytime soon.ö

You know, I have to wonder if the loyalist faction still there in Konoha's ruins would include Jiraiya, or even Tsunade herself later if she saw what was left of the village? Jiraiya especially seemed more loyal to Konoha as a whole, with an interest in helping Naruto besides, than loyal to Sarutobi. And when you factor in he didn't even report in to the old man during the canon chuunin exam, I think I could see him in that position.

And for some reason I could see Orochimaru coming in and setting himself up as Konoha's savior in this situation. I have to figure Minato is the only Hokage anyone really likes any more, so all he has to do is talk about how great the Yondaime was, how Minato would have hated what happened to the village, and how Orochimaru himself was exiled by the same Council and Sandaime that started this whole mess. Without a counterpoint there to directly oppose him he could centralize power pretty easily.

If you want a real mind-fuck, you have Tsunade publicly denounces Sandaime's faction claiming they don't have anything to do with the Senju name and Jiraiya supporting her. The Sannin reunite for the sake of Konoha's memory and to give Sarutobi the finger.

ôAbsolutely sure, Hokage-sama.ö The council was made of the heads of the various clans that made up the Senju faction.
Direct canon contradiction right there. It actually the opposite with only a low percentage of clan members having the Sharingan.

any Uchiha was considered a failure if they hadn't activated their sharingan by the time they were 12 or so, I think it was more common than you think.

Eh no Orochimaru is pretty much a monster world wide while he's charismatic I can never see him making it in Konoha in the open ever ever. Seriously they wanted to kill Anko for just being his apprentice or having the curse seal pretty sure that is cannon they had her in a cell and everything. He's pretty much Hitler in a Jewish community in Fire country maybe if he was in disguise he's been known to do that.

Though I can see him picking off Uchihas since their not as protected in the middle of Konoha anymore.

I'm pretty sure you're mixing fanon with canon there.

Quote from Naruto Wiki:
Only a select few members of the Uchiha clan manifested the Sharingan.
I'll back it up with a manga page at some point. Laziness strikes...

If the sharingan was actually that rare there's no way the Uchiha clan would have been able to fight on equal terms with the Senju

Completely different times they were out in the open in life or death situations in a kill people on a whim era and not have to answer for it a bit like Cowboy era. I'd say feudal Japan but real ninjas were closer to slaves and maids ya know the unassuming poison deal. So yeah I can see them having less people with it activated after the ninja villages were made, so a bit like roving mercenary bands from the way cannon made it sound.

On another note whats up with the whole Senju thing does anyone see any Senju around cause I don't there's Tsunade that's it, can't see her giving a crap about this whole situation and just staying away from it. Might be a few whiners who want her involved but yeah probably in her best interest to stay away far far away from crazy old people.

You say it as if all the Senju has special abilities that puts them above other ninja. The Uchiha were still elite regardless of whether or not all of them have the Sharingan. The only notable members were the Shodai and Nidaime Hokages.

EDIT: Plus, we have no idea how large the Uchiha clan was anyway so it would be difficult to judge what would be considered a 'small percentage' of them.
