Naruto Gardening

It's noted in the information books that one of Naruto's hobbies is Gardening, yet, in the anime (As I haven't read the manga, if someone has, please let us all know.) during one of their D-Rank missions, Naruto can't even tell the difference between a weed, and an actual plant.

Bakamoto rearing it's ugly head, or a hint at a Not-So-Dumb Blonde?

Or, you know, he just doesn't know the difference between a weed and an actual plant. It's quite possible that he never bothered to learn, or had a chance to, or even thought he needed to.

There is a picture of Naruto and his garden, and it's just a total jungle. Knowing Naruto, he probably grows everything and anything, without any regard for what each plant is.

It should also be noted that Kakashi's plant was a gift from Naruto.

You'd think he'd at least pick up what is a plant, and what is a weed, though.

A garden won't last very long if you leave weeds in it.

Even giving Naruto's "Dumb-ness."

Maybe he grows edible weeds? I know that I used to grow and eat weeds when I lived on a farm. They were quite tasty with round steak, provided that you get over the fact that you are eating stuff that many people vilify.

Or maybe he grows poisonous(or what he thinks are poisonous) weeds?
I dont remember if it was in the manga, but in the anime he was carrying a scroll on poisons, mentioned when talking about making a fake scroll in the Forest of Death.

It'd be funny If he was using the weeds growing as a decoy to hide his "real" weeds of the cannibus variety. :snigger: he probably slips it into his ramen which is whats keeping him slow... :huh.:

I was under the impression from "Yamitake! Japan" that "weed" only got you high if you were smoking it, and that it was quite healthy otherwise, please correct me if i'm wrong.

You can eat it too. Pot brownies wouldn't exist otherwise. The healthy part comes from there not being any lung damage from smoke. Eating it is just the healthier way to get high.

Or drinking it in tea. Or drinking it in wine. Yes. Pot wine. Who would've thought? It not illegal, so there :p. I should know, I had two bottles in my house for a while.

How do you think Naruto was able to stand his team members for all that time?

Sasuke looks over at Naruto. "You're going to start pulling up the good plants again, dobe."

Sakura frowns. "Sasuke's right, idiot!"

Naruto just laughs, eyes partly glazed over. The pink elephant with the big head and the angry black duck had a point. He was after the weeds. "ohh yeah...the good plants." he nods and returns to work, chuckling for seemingly no reason.

I always thought the "Naruto likes to garden" thing would be a good jumping off point for Naru/Ino fics. With her pretty much growing up around a flower shop the sight of his private jungle would stir SOMETHING in her if she ever saw it, IMHO. All she'd need to do is try to pick Naruto up for a mission they were assigned together and see him caring for his plants. Instant plot beginning.

The whole Yakitate bit is that eating seeds doesn't affect you the way eating the plant product does. or something.

This is quite true, as there are at least several cultures I can think of that use Cannibis oil in specific dishes with no ill effects...

Besides, the stuff that gets people high is most highly concentrated in the stems and leaves; the seeds are mainly harmless and only trade-restricted because if sold uncooked, they could be used to illegally grow marijuana plants.

Its mostly TBC, that gets people high. Where do people grow Marijuana with the highest TBC content? right here in British Columbia <_<

this thread has derailed long enough, it'd have been amusing if Naruto had grown the Forest of Death with his own "Super Duper Fertilizer: guaranteed to age any plant it touches by 500 years within the first week, now with Kyuubi-chakra imbued chunks".

If he could do it, odds are he would try to make an even stronger one so he could use plants in battle.

This thread could be relevant to my 'Karakuri' fic... hmm.

The Puppet!Naruto does grow plants and collect rare ores. He's got his own private inner sanctum in Yondaime's house where he removed the tile floors and turned the room in what amounts to a jungle, complete with getting rid of the roof and either leaving it open air or placing glass panels on it.

Suggestions on what he could be growing and which ores he may be storing in there? :)

a grape vine offshoot that grows on trees would be interesting (don't know if such a thing exists though),
maybe a Weeping Willow though that'd require a larger than normal amount of water for a tree,
a Blackberry bush would just require some monitoring from time to time,
Strawberries,
Basil,
Mandrake would be an interesting option if it was the HP version.
Poison Ivy framing the door if only until someone points out that it gives people rash's, cue some of the particularly annoying people getting rash's after he learns some restraint.

a Kumquat bush could be useful as well,
Aconite/wolvesbane fits as is just make sure Ino notices that one right away as it's highly poisonous,
Nettle,
Aglaophotis is a fictional herb and quite fitting for coming into contact with Naruto(check wiki),
Catnip would provide a good approach for Ino to encounter his garden,
Wolfberries might fit,
Commiphora myrrha + Boswellia thurifera what can be extracted from these?

By the way, nice Bean Bandit avatar.?
Thanks.

Heh, interesting topic you guys picked...

The explanation could be anbother though: what if Naruto just doesn't view weeds as weeds, after all he could probably relate to them, everyone tries to get rid of them, yet they manage to surpass all obstacles, just like him.

So we just might have a Naruto with a fixation on weeds.
