Just lemon I'm afraid.

So I was watching Game of Thrones and had an urge to TRY and find any good fanfiction.

Shocker: I found one crossover that's steadily updating and I'm LOVING how its written.

The Prince Who Was Promised

SUMMERY: He remembered being Harry Potter. Dreamed of it. He dreams of the Great Other too, a creature of ice and death, with eyes red as blood and an army of cold, dead things. He is only the 2nd son of the King, a 'spare', but that changes when things rather left in the dark come to light, and Westeros is torn asunder by treachery and ambition. Winter is coming... but magic is might.

YES, a SoIaF/HP crossover and it doesn't suck! Try it, be surprised, love it.

EDIT: I was shocked to discover this had also been linked in the HP thread here so consider this a second recommendation.

Summery? The story was wearing a dress.

SoIaF? What does that have to do with the Game of Thrones.

Game of Thrones is part of the A Song of Ice and Fire series.

Can someone give a better summary? I just don't understand it. Also; does this have the ... voluptuous amount of smex as in the first 2 seasons of Game of Thrones (haven't seen the 3rd one)? If so; I think I'll give it a miss. I marathon-ed a few ero VNs yesterday evening and need to flush the gunk out of my head.

I already gave a summary of it in the HP thread. A highly vague spoiler free one.

In short, this fic is certainly recommendable but the author is extremely ambitious with where they want this fic to go. This means that this fic has a high risk of falling flat on its face but will be great if it doesn't.
It is pretty obvious what direction the fic is going, made even more so with the most recent chapter, but this author is good enough to inject enough ambiguity in the scenes that you are never really 100% sure where Harry is going. Well, that was before the last chapter... it is much more obvious what the the author is doing.

As of right now, it is almost definite that it is going down the highly foreshadowed route rather than having Harry do the whole "take a third option" schtick.

Regardless, there is still a high risk of failure but the author shows enough ability to ease (some of) these worries.

To more specifically answer the question: Read it as a Harry reincarnation fic focusing on a character with the ideals of a equal world thrust in the realities of a pseudo-medieval setting and dealing with social inequality in a world that isn't ready to accept or adopt the institutions that a young Harry wants to implement.

So, it is pretty dense material that is highly layered and ambitious. In short, it is a political Harry fic that actually deals with politics and consequences instead of the usual tripe that you find.

And to answer chrono's question several days later, it's not big on the smex, no.

Well I found a new story. Its not "AWESOME" like The Prince who was promised, for which I'm sorry. But its one of the better Skyrim/Dragon Age crossovers.

The Dragon of Ferelden

Summery: The Dragonborn thought his journey might end, but when a strange being interferes with his return home after slaying Alduin, he finds himself forced into that being's world. Armed only with the words of a Mad God, he must find new allies, and deal with the problems of a new world and perhaps find a way home... or a new home among the Gray Wardens.

I'll give this fic a 6/10 rating. writing is solid but not enthralling, grammar could use some refinement but not much, I've already told him his use of WORM is wrong, its WYRM.

Apparently it's been deleted now, for some reason. Barely a half hour after you posted, at that.

In Memoriam by Shockz.

Toaru Majutsu no Index: AU/Rewrite. In a city where science has made the impossible mundane, a young man meets a very strange girl, who speaks to him of things yet stranger. Meanwhile, four friends stumble into a conspiracy that threatens to overturn everything they thought they knew about their home.

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/9442823/1/

This is by fire the best Index and Railgun fic that exists. At least as far as the ones in English go.

Well... I attempted to read it... had to stop...

A completely redone Index/Railgun as narrated by a Toma whose thoughts come across like a 4th dimensional wall breaking slang talking version of Kyon from Haruhi... and as narrated by a Misaka whom comes across as a weird mix of Sherlock Holmes and Data from Star Trek on a bad day attempting to understand human behavior...

It well be... had it not been coming from Misaka and under different circumstances...

Also, the name of the school is changed, I do not know if that is author whim, or if it is part of a cross, but the name does not ring a bell...

Wait, I haven't read it and wait clarification, is the narrator one of the Misaka 'sisters' or Mikoto?

The narrator is Touma, Misaka, and Index so far. There are some age ups for logical reasons. The one the author has stated so far is that Kuroko's lesbian hijinks are too creepy coming from a twelve year old. So Misaka is actually a highschool student. It's why she's going to a different school.

Ultimately this is what a fix fic should be. He's rebuilding the entire setting in an attempt to realize the potential that the original author didn't realize. While I don't have many complaints about the original work other people have repeatedly said the same good points of this story. Touma has a personality, Misaka isn't willing to shoot a railgun near a random guys head, and Index is interesting. He even made Maika into something other than a joke character by turning her habit of riding cleaning robots into making her a master hacker.

The Sisters haven't shown up, though I do have to wonder how he will handle it. After all, Accelerator probably stopped improving before he killed fifty of them.

So it is Mikoto.
My interest just died. I liked the Mikoto that likes cute stuff and frogs. I can accept a narrator that is a cross of Holmes and data if it was Last Order or one of the sisters.

No Mikoto is still Mikoto, just actually portrayed as the genius she's ALSO supposed to be.

This is something that always annoyed me. She's a genius. She can literally interface with machines to the degree where she can use her mind to infltrate them, and so far no security in the world has provided any difficulty.

She can hack supercomputer mainframes from her handheld tablet over a public internet connection.

And yet, she absolutely doesn't come across as smarter than anyone else.

Its annoying. Its not like her power is to just magically beat computer security, her power is over electricity, the amount of brainpower required to calculate the series of electrical pulses which will allow her to beat xyz computer security is ludicrous. Not as bad as what accelerator does, but still ludicrous.

it's been semi-implied that she may be able to replicate testament by herself, i think that takes the cake.

In the case of Mikoto, they downplay nearly every aspect of her character. Consider how Kiriko's friends treat her and are astounded how she acts.

But nerfing characters like that is hardly unusual in anime canon...

Consider the case of Asuka from NGE... here we have a 13 year old genius, a college graduate with her degree from NERV Germany, and what does NERV Japan do? Place her in Junior High school.... If their concern was her Japanese, they could have gotten private tutoring.

Consider the case of Makoto Mizuhara from El Hazard, in the TV series he was described as a 'normal high school student' making a invention involving generators able to draw enough power and to breach the dimensional wall... as a simple science project.

Consider the case of Ami Mizuno... Probably one of if not the smartest girl in Japan of her age group in that series... yet they have her in standard public school...
