RE: Recommended Fanfiction

I can't comment about The Hill of Swords, but reading his MGQ fic, it basically IS just inserting Shirou into the place of Lukas and going "What happens from there?" To me, that's not really a crossover. That's just taking a single series, taking its setting and throwing in something new to shake it up.

Then there are some fics where they don't even achieve that. Take a look at some of the NarutoxBleach fics on FFN. They put in an OC they call Naruto to attract hits. He has blond hair, blue eyes, his name is Naruto, but he has none of Naruto Uzumaki's actual history.

He tends to have the history, it's just things like amnesia and bad writing make it moot.

Echoes of the Void (Familiar of Zero/Kara no Kyokai) updated with 2 chapters.
Never heard of this one. Now that can be an interesting cross, I'll have to try reading that one...

EDIT: Well... it would have been far more appealing had it been the mother, not the daughter... but I can in this case actually see the potential for her being found by the parents, considering thei background and connections.

Hmmm... in the middle of chapter 5... this is pretty good.

Does anyone know if 'Fletching' by the same author is any good... a FSN and Tsukihime crossover.

RE: Recommended Fanfiction

I liked Fletching quite a bit.

But Echoes never really appealed to me, so make of it what you will.

In fact, Fletching is the only one of Alfs I've been able to finish. I made it pretty far in hackEVA but after a while I stopped reading.

So I was looking through various crossovers for shits and giggles like old times and found this gem.

Marvel Phantom

Written by the same guy who's writing DC Phantom but somehow this just plays out SOOOoooo much better.

So, I was re-reading Azula's over at Spacebattles and it maked me want to read some Azula/zuko fanfiction...

Long story, short, I found this one, and , by its quality, I believe it deserves some more publicity than it got, even if the ship is not for everyone.

It's by another author, not as good as this one and NSFW (the reason Fir why I didn't post the link).
It is not really needed to understand the story

My only complaint so far is the costume change.

All the universes amalgamated to make the verse he's using have a decently coherent theme for hero costumes. Which is odd, but whatever.

Danny breaks it.

And looks stupid doing it.

Bad Cosplay does not a good costume make.

Also, Scythes. They literally suck ass, they actually get better if you break the sickle off. At least Danny has bo staff training from his Mom to use if he does that.

His arms should be more durable and damaging than most melee weapons anyways.

The scythe thing comes from this image I believe.

Besides, scythe use in combat is a matter of opinion.

uh...sure

There are people of the opinion that it's a dumb idea, and there are people of the opinion it's cool.

The issue is that one of these groups is pretty objectively wrong, based purely on the general handling characteristics of a scythe. Given what a scythe is, the way the blade is positioned and the way weight is distributed using one in combat would be highly suboptimal.

That's shorthand for 'will get you and anyone you're fighting with dead'.

That particular "schyte" could perhaps be used in a similar manner to an axe or warhammer since it's not very schyte-like, would hate trying to harvest anything with it.

scythe as a weapon - soul eater. real life comparison? what? like the guy who turns into a ghost who lives next to the school for mutants under the avengers helicarier in new york? sure, i know that guy - though he uses a war scythe, so more like a spear.

It's the story about a kid that turns into a ghost and has parents who built dimensional portals to ghost land.

A scythe being a viable combat weapon is really not the point where one should stop suspending disbelief.

tl;dr: It's fiction, people.

It's also a limitation. If he's dependent on a hard to use weapon while lacking the skill to use it he'll just leave him open to his opponent's attacks.

So you think Danny should just stick to the easily learned and mastered abilities of flight, intangibility, and shooting laser beams out of various parts of his body?

I kinda thought the whole point was to make him more of a "death" symbol, while making him NOT look like his human form. As opposed to canon, where he has almost less of a disguise than Superman.

All you need to do to make a scythe viable as a weapon is to add a second edge to the blade and shift its angle so that it doesn't face inward quite as much. It's not THAT SoD breaking.

To make a scythe a viable weapon (which was done in various points in history) you remove the blade entirely, refashion the mount so that it points straight upward from the shaft, and then remount it.

The result looks much like a spear or halberd, not like a scythe. And most fictional scythe users very definitely do not use a warscythe, they use a scythe mounted in the same way as those designed for harvesting grain.
