Heh, figured I forgot to put on the looks.

My char:

Name: Lethalette

Class: Wavemaster(mistress?)

Bio: Well, I like to deal lots of damage, even at the expense of falling fast. I'm the kind of character that will nuke a lvl5 EvilPup to save an unlucky newbie, but I won't go looking for victims. The battle style would be:
1) Join with meele fighter
2) Fight from afar and deal lotsa damage
3) Recover/Repeat.
On a side note, I've got a weird luck with female chars in MMORPGs: other chars hit on mine. Real weird the first time, but now it's just funny. This character has been on the World for little over a year, showing up mostly in late night GMT.

Looks: Lethalette has dark blue eyes and light blue hair hanging free. She dresses in what amounts to a white riding hood on top of a white plugsuit, both items gained in-game during events...lowering MP, but raising physical stats proportionally.

Hm, I didn;t notice all of them... in most of the dot hack rps I've done no one played a longarms so I made one here. seriously the class doesn't matter to me too much. I can switch to blade master or heavy blade and have no real change with how I plan the character lol.

so how is this going to be set writing wise? would we use other people characters or only write our own characters actions (like in a forum rp)? I've never had the oppertunity to write in a round robin.

Unless you join a party for a round of adventuring, for the most part you'll only write your character. However, .hack characters and NPCs are fair game. Just remember, we're supposed to be random guys. The interaction with the .hackers, especially Kite and Helba, should be little to none.

Running into them and trading stuff and information is OK, but leave the complex Phases stuff and whatnot out of it, unless the .hackers just drop cryptic comments about some areas being dangerous to your character because of instability...

That doesn't mean you can't visit Data Bugged areas. Just, I'd expect most random players to log out of it as soon as they see the freaky look.

Don't worry, Theon and Aere are definitely staying out of it. They won't even go near a data bug or any indication of it. They won't say why, but Theon's attitude is generally ominous about the possible results.

As far as encountering players goes, they might do some trading, though they don't need to often, since they're very efficient at dungeoning, even just the two of them, so they've usually got the best equipment for their current level.

As far as previous incarnations go... lack of an IP address prevents anyone from discovering if they've accessed The World before or even where they're accessing it from. The oddest part is that neither of them have gone offline since they got online, even though at least a week has passed (which can be a long time in MMO). They're still at level 10, however, chatting with random passerby and generally wandering about the delta server more than they dungeon.

Why do I have the sudden image of Piros attempting to decipher Aere's speech, failing ridiculously of course, but thinking he has it and leading the two off on a wild goose chase because he thinks she knows where something is and won't tell him straight?

That could actually be quite funny...

And if you use O'Malley, he's a newbie, and a bit of a panicky sort. The moment he gets hurt, he runs for it, even if he's winning.

And if you're wondering, yes, he is named after the evil AI in "Red versus Blue: The Blood Gulch Chronicles".

Interestingly enough Josh is willing to go to those Zones, because they're places most people avoid he occasionally ends up in them due to various Bets with others. The rest of his free-time he occasionally looks for a Long Arm he won a bet with whose name is Gardenia, she apperently owes him a Date.

and a cookie for anyone whose figured out the series he's from.

hmmm.. FOB would only stay if the group stayed.. like I say, he is group oriented. If he's simply traveling by himself, he would log out of the area if possible.

Remember.. .despite his childlike avatar, he is an experienced player. People just tend to underestimate him alot.

.. especially PKers. Who knows? Silent FOB may just garner a reputation as a PKKer, if too many PKers try to go after him, seeing an easy mark.

Actually, speaking of PKing, if we're going by the first four games, PKing is outlawed at that point... I think it was... Bear? That told me that when I saw him on the Omega server.

how can you out law PKing in an MMO? granted if game cant hurt another player it's impossible but if game is programed that players can hit eachother then there will always be PKers.

I mean they had PKers in sign and then they were Rampant in GU...

It's HACKING that's illegal, after the pluto's kiss incident they really cracked down on hacking and it has very high penalties and jail time. That's why Helba being a hacker is such a huge deal, since she's so good that no one can catch her.

PKing is frowned upon, but not illegal. Balmung outright threatens to kill Kite (LAWL, death threats on a MMORPG), and Sora, well, we ALL know who he was.

Well, in the hope that this takes off, I'll add a little bit of background: during my newbie days, Altagrave helped me out of a tight spot. However, I'm not one to bother with people outside my actual party or the World in general, so my character believes that Altagrave's new character is a copycat, or worse, a hacker who stole the Altagrave's account, mostly because I've never heard of Altagrave's old character trashing habit.

On the Fic/RR debate, I propose we play a RR and every so often (say, every 50-60 posts) someone compiles the posts into a fic chapter, to be posted in FFN under the TFF account. Thoughts?

Good idea. I suppose your character and mine will interact a lot.

Heh, this looks more like a RP setup than a RR. Which reminds me, I need to start my Falgaland RP in that section...

Okay, so I must've heard wrong...

On a side note, playing the game, we never have explained to us the death and respawn system of The World, since we just get a game over. Since we're doing this like so, how should we handle that? Loss of experience gained since last save? Loss of inventory? Cash penalty?

I say loss of everything but equipped items in your active inventory, and loss of half your cash. So in short, use Elf's Haven a lot.

However, do note: if you are in a team, your allies can revive you with no losses. It's only when soloing that the above applies.

So make sure everyone's carrying ressurects, got it. And I'd gotten so used to having Rip Maen on hand...

Speaking of that, should we compile a list of spell names for accuracy, or just be vauge about it?

Could be useful to compile a list for those who aren't as familiar with .hack spells as us, I guess...

Considering that in the (current) anime at least that players can get looted by Pkers after dying. I think loss of (some or non-equipped/extremely rare that can't be stolen or were event items at least) items is at least valid whenever we die and respawn.

If it was money...well considering that you can get items or equipment by beating up monsters and the like, money really isn't an issue since all it's likely going to is for potions for HP/MP, (and that can eaily be dealt with via Repth and regenerating MP) fortune keys, a few fairy orbs, some scrolls and maybe buying items to use as gifts.

But I suppose GH's opinion is more better I guess.

Background? Well let's just say that there's a least a Rare Hunter once in a while and I'm somewhat the one that will be it...and it usually tends to drive some (some) people crazy when my game character practically grabs another character (or more) by the neck and drag them off towards the Gate if I even get a whiff of a rare item (that I can use at least or if I am -reluctantly- going to trade it for another rare item or as a gift for those that help me getting a rare item that I'm intrested in).

The fact that even if they don't know me at all doesn't deter the fact of me dragging someone there.

Speaking of that, should we compile a list of spell names for accuracy, or just be vauge about it?
I like to be accurate myself.

Heh, Mistral was a Rare Hunter.?
Not to mention her daughter as well, but that's something else.

Although that would probably let me one of those that actually encounters Mistral as a rival Rare Hunter. But that will only likely be a one or two time meeting and me declaring that I will beat her first in getting said Rare item the first time around. Thus one of the reasons for the grabbing and dragging by the neck of other players.

I think about the few people that could actually escape my grip would be your character GH, usually you asking a question or a statement like it requires a certain character or gender to actually partake in the event/item or some such thing that makes me pause long enough to get out of it anyways.

Course by then I'll hear of yet another Rare item and then drag off the nearest person anyways.

Thus I was known as the 'Dragging Dual Blade Rare Hunter'.

...Also known as the only character that can dual blade CHARACTERS as weapons since I sometimes forget letting go of other characters and using them to smack monsters around instead of using my blades at times.

...nah, the last part is too silly so let's just ignore that one.

About the respawn point, BT made it clear in //Sign that when you and your party kick the bucket that you loss everything you got after your last save. Experience and items, is what you lose, maybe member addresses but if that was the case then Sora wouldn't PK some female body user after giving s/he his address.

Thus I was known as the 'Dragging Dual Blade Rare Hunter'.

Silly? Yes, but its funnier then the last Hell threoy I read. Keep it, just thinking about the looks that some people would give you once you hear rare item and groans of those that have your member address would be even funnier. :yay: Course now I seeing you using my character as a weapon as I'm using my skills at the same time :yay: . Talk about one way to counter the 'use skills, can't move' rule.

As far as the game characters go, I figure you'd probably be free to meet the optional .hackers (Natsume, Gardenia, Sanjuro, etc.).

Also, nothing keeps you from dragging the NPCs into your messes. Altagrave is friends with several of them, after all - the NPC party he typically forms when he's adventuring for himself is himself, one between Benoit and A-20, and Tim (the latter being a Golden and Silver Axe collector). But mostly, he likes to help newbies out - even with a fresh character, experience does count.

Don't look at me for spell list, all I know is the healing, Rip Maen, Repth, La Repth, Pha Repth, Phal Repth, and... damn, can't recall the final incarnation of healing spell...

I do know that spell names have a formula of sorts, so we could probably just put that together instead of listing every spell. And of course the summons.

...

As I walked around Mac Anu after hearing of this amazing event item, I spotted a shade of green hair and the back of a bluish one-piece suit that I knew of and began yelling as I began to wave my hand as if in greeting.

"NATSUME!"

Seeing her entire body cringe at hearing my voice, she turned and began back pedaling with eyes wide open and her hands beginning to do various hand gestures that are supposed to ward off evil around her neck level when she saw my face in joy.

I mused that I was one of the few people to ever see her eyes open before and that's likely on one hand alone. Too bad, her eyes are quite nice if I say so myself.

My mind also then went and wondered why was she doing those gestures in the first place. I mean, I did say that I'm sorry after using her like a blungeon against a imp or two.

I'm sure that it wasn't the fact that I dragged her into a dungeon that was ten levels higher than our total levels combined for the rumor of a weapons for twin blades called the HK-47 dildos of doom. I mean, after fighting off that slime looking monster with it's orangey tentacles she gotten some great gear out of it!

I'm also sure that she forgave me for that one time of not letting go of her leg and basically have her face in the ground and bumping into all those rocks right? Oh sure, she lost half of the cloth of her one piece suit and had some random monsters as well as some players to chase after her nearly nude form, but that was only a temp thing that happens once in a blue moon!

I mean, honestly! Can't she see beyond that for the chance for kick ass rare loot and the chance to become better all for it?
...Yeah, I like Natsume, but I think I would have her pretty wary of me at times whenever it somes to rare items, espically since I seem to have her as the first one to be dragged off whenever that happens. Other than that, I'd be pretty laid back and helpful.

...wait....

*reads back*

...Oh blast it, that was a snippet! Damn you all!

That's hilarious.

But now you've made my mind go off onto perverted trails...

I still find the reason for part one's "M" rating hilarious... Natsume's offer, that is

Still, funniest part happened, for me, just recently. The place Blackrose and Terajima Ryoko invite Kite to at the same time, and what happens on the last floor. Kite's reaction is just too priceless, he looks like he wants to yell "WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE!?"
