.hack//UNKNOWNS

Well, the idea came to me from this thread, and Souffle's rant about the lack of .hack fics. Hence the idea...

Simply put, what if a .hack fic focused on the 'nobodies' and 'common players' in The World - people like, for example, A-Kichi, Benoit, Heavy and all the oher random, everyday players who aren't deeply involved in the plot and just run around in the first quadrilogy games?

From there, the idea evolved: what if those players were... us TFFers?

Mind you, this would be a mostly serious, if light in tone, fic - simply the events taking place as seen from someone who's not deeply involved in them. No crack, although random idiocy is expected (some of the NPCs in the root towns say the damnedest things...).

I was thinking of making it a Round Robin, since in order to play a random character, the required knowledge of .hack is minimal (if you've played any one MMORPG, you should have no trouble writing yourself). However, should the interest factor be lacking, I'll take the whole fic up myself, and only ask others to contribute their character.

For the record, these are the character classes available as per the first 4 games:

-Heavy Axeman: your typical physical tank. Slow, fairly powerful, high HP and defense, but don't like magic. Piros and Subaru were two such characters.

-Heavy Blade: a lot like Axemen, lower defense on average, but higher attack power. Mimiru and BlackRose were examples of those in the series.

-Long Arms: polearm users. Spears, lances, halberds, etc.. They are weaker than Blademasters and have less defense than Heavy Axemen, but tend to have much better defense to magic than both, and are only a lottle less versatile than Twin Blades. Great reach. Crim and Gardenia were Long Arms.

-Twin Blades: Average defined. Jacks of all trades, masters of none. They can be hit and run characters or spellcasters. Only thing they can't do is tank. They always use dual blades, hence the class name. Main characters were almost invariably this class - Kite, Shugo, Haseo...

-Blademaster: Less powerful, slightly faster Heavy Blade, pretty much. They tend to be better at magic too. Mia, Orca and Bear are examples.

-Wavemaster: Magic user, end of story. Terrible physical defenses, but can nuke you pretty badly. Tsukasa and Mistral were Wavmasters. Helba is also a Wavemaster, but her character was haxored to hell and back.

Just in case someone wants to contribute characters...

I doubt that I would be of any help with any possible round robin. Heck, I'm still trying what is to be the next part of Lym's descent into pervertedness. (and often deleting it)

At least I'd contribute my name/character and have it abused (by anyone) in the fic.

While I could have been a long arm, I'd likely be a Twin Blade, but leans towards the support role more often than not. Doesn't mean that I won't melee, but buffing people up wouldn't hurt beforehand.

Clothing is a mix of Blue and Tan colors. Similar clothing style towards Kite and Shugo, but without the hat and the case on the back and WAAAY too many pockets my clothing. Oh and glasses, can't forget the glasses. Simple ones though as otherwise they would likely have me look like a Columbian drug lord and me nearly stating every time that I'm not one.

Personality? Uh, I'll get back to you on that...but I suppose that I'll act how I usually act here...myself.

Name...uh...Yaximbahps... :ph43r:

B) Nice idea, though the RR option may not be the best option. Just look at both of the Chaos RRs I made. Great collection of ideas, but the various personities(sp?) and writing styles tend to make it feel like Divergence Eve without the fanservice and big breasts... :huh.: but that's my opinion. That and thankfully uberness cannot be an issue in this chosen universe.

As it is, I'll offer my character.

Name: Coin

Class: Wave Master

Looks: Wiseman base with all grey clothes, black hair and brown eyes.

Personity(sp?): Solo-er, has others initiate any converisons with him, generally speaks with some difficulty(sp?) and with as few of words as required. Takes his time in everything, which is the only reason why he survives as a solo-er when dungeon crawling as he can easily wait to recharge his skill points.

Anything else needed? I'd join the RR, but I just don't suggest that route without preperation made before hand.

IÆd like to join in on Round Robins but IÆm horribly slow and inconsistent at such things (More than IÆd like to be really, it carries over to online RPs. -_- ) But I would like to contribute a character to use if someone want to.

Name: Vathir

Class: Heavy Blade

Looks: Gray armor with black and blue highlights; short black-gray hair, brown eyes, and no facial markings.

Personality: Vathir solos and parties in regards to dungeon crawling, though he prefers to party especially in the flesh and bone dungeons because they creep him out, not that heÆll tell anyone that particular detail. HeÆs normally quiet, and content to listen to the chatter of far more talkative teammates. However quiet he is normally is compounded in actual combat, Vathir tends to go completely silent except for one or two word notices to his teammates such as Watch out! and Thanks, or to call out attacks.

Well, I join this RR, because for one, its unlikely to end up uber, and well, if it goes on long enough I'll find out the plot of .hack without having to watch the series (I've watched .hack/SIGN and no more)

My char:

Name: Lethalette

Class: Wavemaster(mistress?)

Bio: Well, I like to deal lots of damage, even at the expense of falling fast. I'm the kind of character that will nuke a lvl5 EvilPup to save an unlucky newbie, but I won't go looking for victims. The battle style would be:
1) Join with meele fighter
2) Fight from afar and deal lotsa damage
3) Recover/Repeat.
On a side note, I've got a weird luck with female chars in MMORPGs: other chars hit on mine. Real weird the first time, but now it's just funny.

Name: Silent FOB

Class: Long Arm

Appearance: Childlike avatar, resembling a 12 year old boy, wearing a black cloth mask over his mouth and nose. Armor similar to Lancers from F:SN, only blue, with a black trenchcoat over the lot of it. Carries a spear more than twice his height with him. Star-like tattoo, similar to Allen Walker from D.Greyman, appears over his left eye.

Personality: The character only replies with emoticons ad light actions, preferring to keep as quiet as possible. Still, the character is big on beign a team player, preferring to join a party over soloing. People tend to underestimate him thanks to his appearance, but he is a fierce battler. Sometimes has difficulties finding people to play with, due to the lack of communication. When it coems to threats to a teammate, Silent FOB (FOB for short) tends to do little things.. like prepare healing spells so that if a person is struck, they'll immediately be healed. He's more frontline than support in any case.

Name: Joshua

Class: Blademaster

Appearance: Red Hair, a triangular hat, and green eyes. usually wears black but occasionally changes depending on mood, appears to be in his mid-twenties and clean-shaven. For some reason he has never changed his Longsword to a stronger weapon.

Personality: usually Solos his way through dungeons, though he has been known to join a group if a pretty face makes a bet with him, many Player Killers have tried to take advantage of this only to die rather quickly.

If i play (i might), can I hack my character's appearance?

Name: Randagio (Ran-da-gee-oh)
Class: Wavemaster
Appearance:

Behold, take notice, stare in awe, this is the first time that I, Souffle, will ever call a male 'cute'

Personality: Outside of fighting he is normally bored and gives off a look of perpetual exhaustion. Even when fighting, he looks half asleep. However, he secretly loves to show off, and specializes in area magic just to do so. When serious, looks fully awake. Rarely serious though, and loves to joke around.

Name: Rei-Chama

Class: Twin Blades

Appearance: Ayanami Rei look-alike.

Personality: She hardly talks unless it is important, most of the time a background like character, doesn't like to stand out. She knows basic healing spells, mostly when she goes solo when leveling.

I really need to go beat Quarantine, but virus core hunting is soooooo annoying...

But I might as well drop in a character or two, might or might not jump in on the RR since I have yet to have a good experience with one...

These two come as a pair, though the first might get separated from the second at times.

Name: Aere

Class: Wavemaster

Appearance: Slim build, medium height, pale complexion. Long black hair, mischievous green eyes, cherubic face. Wears eye-destroying robes of neon green, bright orange, and bright purple in a confusing pattern.

Personality: Due to various facts of her early life, she is incurably mentally warped. This warping manifests in the form of her speech. In short, nothing she says ever makes sense. Misread travelers translation guides have nothing on her. Generally speaking, however, she is a very nice person, though occasionally with a wicked sense of humor.

Key Quote: "Though violence solves much, the pink dingos will still eat all your candy."

Name: Theon

Class: Heavy Blade

Appearance: Tall, moderately wide in the shoulders but otherwise slim. Long chrome hair braided and tucked into her belt. Moderate complexion, angular features. Wears a pair of sturdy loose blue trousers and tight white sleeveless shirt. Her visible eye seems to be glitchy... like the game can't quite process the data that makes it up. The other is covered by a half-mask depicting the face of a dying goat-faced demon, screaming in pain as blood runs out of various places. There are rumors that it starts screaming and moving when she gets angry, though it's mostly noobs that say so, so it's largely ignored.

Personality: Cold. She speaks precisely and doesn't have much time for idle chat. If she's alone, that is. If Aere's there, she'll talk a bit more, but still not much. A few people have witnessed them speaking alone and found long conversations, however. Theon is the only one who can understand Aere's speech, though she's closemouthed about how, there are once again rumors that her system is running over thirty codebreakers to decipher the girl's strange speech. One particularly clever hacker decided he wanted the codebreakers, but found no trace of them after he broke into Theon's heavily guarded system... at least, he found no trace in the thirty seconds before every component in his system melted to slag. So Theon generally translates for her when they're joined by a third party member. Except for her key quote, Theon just responds to that with a "Don't look at me, I still don't get that one."

Key Quote: "Go away. Before I shove this blade [CENSORED BY MANAGEMENT] and [CENSORED BY MANAGEMENT] in your [CENSORED BY MANAGEMENT] with a trout and then [CENSORED BY MANAGEMENT]."

The two are rarely seen apart. Strangely, even with all the mystery that surrounds their oddities, they seem to be regular players, staying out of restricted zones and immediately leaving any areas that seem to be heavily infected. Even Lios and other mods have never seen them do anything out of the ordinary, besides the unusual protections and lack of real IP address from their connection. Conversations recorded by the system seem to indicate that their real lives are rather exciting, though no names to indicate what or where have ever been dropped, and the two seem to regard the game as a nice getaway from that.

There, two characters just in it for fun. I need to get the hang of writing Aere's speech and these two in general, so I can maybe get their story written... so I might indeed jump in on this if it gets going...

Heh. Well, a RR would be the most FUN, but a full fic would probably do it the most justice for Fanfiction.Net purposes, since the .hack section on FFN has like, zero fics worth reading nowadays.

Decisions, decisions...

BTW, I'll most likely enter this one myself, with a Heavy Axeman. :p I'll post the profile later.

I'm guessing that's what the Wavemaster is for.

...pity I don't understand enough of The World (as in, watched the series/played the games), other than it being a VR game that gets seriously broken a lot of times.

But, if that's enough to qualify, then just tell me, and I'll produce something...

There's Gunners in G.U., to be fair. But given how, by equipping the right pieces of equipment, you can make even a heavy axeman use long range magic, the specialization is hardly necessary. Everyone and their mom can equip the right armor to rain hot fiery death on the enemy from afar. Wavemasters (and some Twin Blades) are just better at it than most.

#15
You don't need long range specialists with Wavemasters around. By the point I'm at near the end of the fourth game, unless the area level is 90 or higher, all I ever have to do is say 'use skills' and everything dies before I can even get to it because Mistral nukes them. Even at 95, unless they split and run away from each-other, they're dead in two casts. Three for big dragons and whatnot. Of course, that's a little frustrating when hunting virus cores...

When you're hunting virus cores, my recommendation is to equip the Rusty Nails (which have negative ATK and Staccatto, which is great for protect breaking) and then protect break the target after killing everything else in the way.

The Rusty Nails were MADE with Data Draining in mind. Use them. Trust me...

EDIT: By the way, priceless sig image. "Steal Etna's Balls", indeed.

Oh, never knew that. I'll have to see if I have them/go get them. I might also try going into low-level areas alone, at least in lower servers than Omega.

And yeah, it cracked me up when I saw it too. Just had to take a picture

GH, Haseo is not a Twin Blade, he is a Multi-Weapon, a new class in World 2 where you can select to start with either one of these 3 weapons (Blade, Twin Blade or Scythe) with the ability to learn magic through scrolls. Haseo started with twin blades, which later on gain his other 2 forms.

I know that, but for the purpose of explaining, I only considered his STARTING class.

Also, Haseo gets a fourth class, IIRC so he's an anomaly anyway.

I'm all for this, I'll partisipate in a round robin. This takes place during the first series of games then?

Name- NeroNova

Class - Longarm

Looks - A tunic and pants combo green with earth tone colors. A cloak he won in an event couple years back, has no ingame effect but proves he beat a tough event. a forest green bandit's mask covers the lower half og his face with bored gaze, a ruffled mop of brown hair atop his head.

Bio- Nero is an old guard, he's used the same character on and off since the early versions of the world and no matter how many times he walks away from the game he always comes back. He's a bit of a jerk and has a tendancy to get frustrated with newbies and morons. he finds grunties rather annoying. though despite his attitude he prefers to group then solo and is a solid team player even if he's likely to grumble when people mess up. has a favorite field he often goes to in his spar time but rarely talks about why....

Okay. If you like this, you can use it.

Name: O'Malley

Class: Long Arms

Appearance: Black trousers, a dark red polo shirt with a pocket on the left breast, Black jacket, and a cap. Reddish-blonde hair and a long English-style moustache, fair skin and green eyes.

Personality: O'Malley is a contradiction within the World. Unfailingly courteous and polite most of the time, he nonetheless likes to trash-talk his opponents during battle. He speaks with an Ulster (Northern Irish) accent, and uses a long spear modeled on the Gße Bulg of C·chulainn.

Well, here I am...

Name: Alkist

Class: Twin Blades

Looks: White hair cut in an 'egg' style, wearing a brown shirt, a sleeveless coat in a darker tone, and white pants, as well as shoes. Other than that and the two swords on his back, he doesn't look very different from a regular person.

Personality: Alkist is kinda childish in his attitude, usually having a silly grin during events. Even when the situation is serious, he does his best to try and keep the mood up. He's also kinda unique, in that he wants to be helpful as much as possible - every time a battle happens, he is the first one to take hits for others, and he uses healing items on those who need it. His view of this game is that, since he is a frontline battler, then he should care less about himself and more about others. Thus, he has a tendency to get really beaten... a lot.

Yes, pretty much.

Anyway, my character:

Name: Altagrave

Class: Heavy Axeman

Looks: Extremely large (think Piros or Ginkan). Wears a blue full plate armor that covers almost the entirety of his body, save the head. Has red hair, green eyes and fair skin. He's essentially Gades from Lufia, only with an axe instead of sword and shield.

Bio: Despite having started over with a new character, he's actually one of the currently longest-time players on The World, having been around when Balmung and Orca defeated the One Sin event. Some say that he was one of the beta testers for the original The World, but this rumor has been denied by Altagrave himself.

He's very popular among newbies, as he tends to be good natured about letting others have the loot, and often escorts newbies in higher level dungeons so they can build their levels up.

In the past he got several characters (all named Altagrave) to Level 99, and whenever he did, he usually then gave all his items again, deleted them and started fresh with a new class. This is his third 'incarnation', after a Wavemaster and a Long Arm.

Altagrave is in the game purely for the fun factor, and isn't really interested in silly things like 'guilds' or 'cheating'. To him, The World is a chance to relax and kick back, and while he's as fierce as they come in battle, he'll always tackle everything with his calm, laid back attitude.

Now if only you could attack from a Gruntie, Long Arms would be even more powerful.

And one thing I forgot about my character, the element he uses the most is Darkness. He may switch to Water or Light if the situation demands it, but he sticks to Darkness the most.

Great, now I want to finish making that RPG Maker XP game based in the .Hack universe.
