Well, the idea came to me from this thread, and Souffle's rant about the lack of .hack fics. Hence the idea...
Simply put, what if a .hack fic focused on the 'nobodies' and 'common players' in The World - people like, for example, A-Kichi, Benoit, Heavy and all the oher random, everyday players who aren't deeply involved in the plot and just run around in the first quadrilogy games?
From there, the idea evolved: what if those players were... us TFFers?
Mind you, this would be a mostly serious, if light in tone, fic - simply the events taking place as seen from someone who's not deeply involved in them. No crack, although random idiocy is expected (some of the NPCs in the root towns say the damnedest things...).
I was thinking of making it a Round Robin, since in order to play a random character, the required knowledge of .hack is minimal (if you've played any one MMORPG, you should have no trouble writing yourself). However, should the interest factor be lacking, I'll take the whole fic up myself, and only ask others to contribute their character.
For the record, these are the character classes available as per the first 4 games:
-Heavy Axeman: your typical physical tank. Slow, fairly powerful, high HP and defense, but don't like magic. Piros and Subaru were two such characters.
-Heavy Blade: a lot like Axemen, lower defense on average, but higher attack power. Mimiru and BlackRose were examples of those in the series.
-Long Arms: polearm users. Spears, lances, halberds, etc.. They are weaker than Blademasters and have less defense than Heavy Axemen, but tend to have much better defense to magic than both, and are only a lottle less versatile than Twin Blades. Great reach. Crim and Gardenia were Long Arms.
-Twin Blades: Average defined. Jacks of all trades, masters of none. They can be hit and run characters or spellcasters. Only thing they can't do is tank. They always use dual blades, hence the class name. Main characters were almost invariably this class - Kite, Shugo, Haseo...
-Blademaster: Less powerful, slightly faster Heavy Blade, pretty much. They tend to be better at magic too. Mia, Orca and Bear are examples.
-Wavemaster: Magic user, end of story. Terrible physical defenses, but can nuke you pretty badly. Tsukasa and Mistral were Wavmasters. Helba is also a Wavemaster, but her character was haxored to hell and back.
Just in case someone wants to contribute characters...
