Nasuverse Ikari Shinji: Berserker

There is a story where Shinji Ikari plays the role of a Lancer, if I'm not mistaken, though that includes characters from other series as well, with the premise being that the Grail was borked enough to summon not heroes of ancient history, but modern media.

Coincidentally, it can be found in the previews section.
Oh you.

Let's think about this for a second, shall we? Whether or not he exists in their world, I think you're giving the girl a little too much credit when it comes to technology.

Also keep in mind that those involved are magi and don't exactly keep up with pop culture, so they'd be looking at tomes of legends and other such from their libraries.

Too bad it was Rei and not Shinji who used the Lance of Longinus, otherwise I would have suggested that Shinji be Lancer.
Why not expanding the idea to other servants, sans Saber and Archer (Saber goes to Shirou, Archer with ILLYA).
Here are my suggestion:
Lancer: Rei Ayanami. Under Lluvia.
Berserker: Shinji Ikari, under Rin.
Rider: Asuka Soryu Langley under Sakura. When Shinji Matuo will try, keyword TRY, to take command of her, she will beat the asshole within an inch of his life and eat the Book of False Attendant.
Caster: Misato Katsuragi. Under TAIGA!!!
Misato, being completely useless as a Servant, gets horribly killed. Or Taiga gets epically trolled by Kotomine.

Yeah, the very idea of Rin even attempting a Google search is laughable....

No, Rin knows how to use a computer... She just doesn't know how they work.

Case in point, trying to unplug the computer to delete something she posted on the internet during the whole twitter trolling thing they did.

She could get ON the internet, and she could find twitter, and she could post on it.

But she had a breakdown of understanding after that.

Eh, well, she really isn't good with technology. The Tohsaka family never really was, since they have thaumaturgical "substitutes" for it.

Trust me, she didn't run a google search. Besides, its not like she would have known much about computers in 2000...

Rin: As much as I hate to admit it, I might need to seek some alternative methods of research.

*at a public library, staring at a computer*

'This is so humiliating. MY own library doesn't have anything, so I'm forced to resort to a public one. Talk about embarassing. Now then...let's see how this thing works.'

*One crashed desktop later*

Rin: "Is that even possible? I give up. This guy is just a nobody."

Is that a Dresden Files reference, or an Aino Minako reference?

No, Archer set up a twitter account for her (and did everything else), and whilst she was able to post on it, she clearly had no comprehension of what she was doing, since she thought it was a private diary. All she required was the ability to type, and it seems like it took her several hours to work out how to even do that.

Wow. She'd almost fit right in with the Potterverse purebloods (except she's not that much of an idiot).

Well, the Magic Association in general seems (from my limited knowledge of Harry Potter) to have a lot in common with the Pure Bloods. They judge families almost entirely on how old they are and, thus, how large their Magic Crest is, and they judge magi mainly on which family they come from. You only have to look at their attitude to Waver Velvet to see that. Further, they hate magi who operate outside their juristiction (such as Kiritsugu and, prior to the war, Shirou). They're not quite as aggressive about it as Voldemort and the like, but discrimination most definitely exists.
