Iron Fic 3-9: Action!
Summer is not a time for talking. Summer blockbusters are always hard-bitten, balls to the wall action packed explosion fests. So why have all of my challenges thus far been more talk than fight? It's a mystery.
No longer. Your challenge and you will accept it, is to write a action scene. This includes but is not limited to: duels, jousts, tournaments, brawls, shoot-outs, wars, mage-duels, training sessions, ambushes, sieges, ship-to-ship combat, planetary bombardments, mecha fights, aerial dogfighting, jailbreaks, dungeon encounters, virtual reality combat, heists, chase scenes and so on.
There are a few corollaries to this challenge. First, the action scene does have to be the centerpiece of the story. You can and should have some set and and denouement, but most of the text should be action. Second, be careful about how you describe the action. Points will be taken off if the action is unclear, or if the judges can't tell who is doing what (unless that's the point, try and make clear if this is the case).
Lastly, make it awesome. Explosions, frikkin' laser beams, physics defying, world shaking, soul crushing and cackle inducing awesomeness is what this challenge is all about. Be creative! Remember that it doesn't have to be combat, as long as there's action to it.
The challenge is set!
