I've got a question

For strategy, I'd recommend Civilization 3 or 4.

Not as actiony as most games, but it's one hell of a strategy game.

Plus, once you get to the higher levels, going back to chieftan and having nukes by the time everyone else gets to the mideval era is sweet.

As is nuking Ghandi. Nothing is more hilarious than nuking Ghandi to hell.

Avoid Gothic III (I and II are good) like the plague. It sucks... hard. Even if you have a cutting edge computer, it'll probably end up unplayable due to lag or crashes (or both). Even if you can play it, it's mostly just hundreds of fetch quests slapped together.
Geh?! How did I add a third I to Gothic II? And yes, I meant Gothic II, *not* III, which does tend to be bug and crash hell. hitokiri is right, avoid the third like the plague.

Why do you people nuke Ghandi? Why do you nuke me ? Yes, I play as Ghandi half of the time I play Civ 95 and 3.

And on that note, Alpha Centarui(sp?) should be added to that list. The characters/leaders all have personities(sp?) that don't require you to be a history buff, massive replay value (I've killed at least a hundred hours on it the first year I got it, plus the thirty more each year after that), and it has worms. Nothing wrong with killing the white blood cells of the Planet. :snigger:

As for KotOR, if something does feel or look right about it to you, then don't get it. I should have followed that advice when I bought Romance of the Three Kingdoms IX.

The last game I can suggest would be StarCraft if you don't have it already.

Speaking of StarCraft, does anyonw else think that Blizzard pulled another idoitic(sp?) move by moving all their resources to supporting WoW and ditching Ghost and Diablo III (unconfirmed that they started making it anyway)?

Edit: Slash that, they made Battle.net and WoW more important to them then making Ghost. Damn it all!

Good, god, if they ever made a diablo III, I'd probably end up selling my soul to the game like I did with Diablo II.

It consumed my life for years.

And everyone, thanks for all the posts :D.

Ghost was dead in the water before Diablo 2 came out.

You say that like it was a bad thing? Personally I just need to rebuy the DII orginal CDs and I'm all set to lose another few weeks/months of my life.

Ghost was dead in the water before Diablo 2 came out.
It was? I have random ads for Ghost that came with WarCraft III's Battle Chest, Diablo's Battle Chest, and StarCraft's Battle Chest.

Yeah, I realize this is probably on the wrong board, but this board gets a lot more activity than the game board, so I figured here would be a better place to put it.
If you don't give a damn about the rules of this forum ( Rule 4 in particular... ), sure it's a better place!

*shakes head and moves topic*

Hmm... rpgs eh... Well, The Bard's Tale is a good one. Has great music, and and after seeing the back, I had to buy it. You can't stay away from a game that advertises itself as "a quest for Coin and Cleavage".

If you end up enjoying Bard's Tale, I would suggest picking up the Baldur's Gate: Dark Allience series. Both games are awsome and are played similarly. *sigh* Its just too bad that the company that made them went under before they could release number 3.

Another fantastic rpg, is Neverwinter Nights. Currently, you can by the base game, the two expansions, and three of the premium modules, for about $20, in the Diamond (or was it Platinum) edition. It, just like Morrowind, has a huge modding community. Apparently, it also follows a lot of the D&D ruleset (I say apparently, cause I have never read the rulebooks)

Isn't Suiko V the one on the boats?? I'm not a fan of naval combat.
Um. Suiko V is the one with the Sun Rune. The naval one is Suiko IV.

And there's not much naval combat. It plays just like a FE when there's some, in fact - move on squares and wham enemy - but the rest of the time it's a very classic turn based RPG.

I seriously think Suiko IV is underrated. It looks boring when you are navigating towards a new goal... until you realize that not only is it no slower than the old Suiko I and II world map walk speeds, but you actually LUG AROUND YOUR HEADQUARTERS once you get the Dauntless, which means no having to teleport back and redo the trip if a random encounter stomps you in the floor.

And once you discover an island, Viki can teleport you there anyway, so...

EDIT: Also, if Turn Based Strategy RPGs like FE bore you, skip Disgaea. While the humor is fun, it's really more of the same.
The problem with Suikoden V is that it's damn near impossible to find. From what I understand, it was only released for a few weeks (in NA at least). III and IV on the other hand aren't too hard to get (went and bought a used copy of each on friday at a local store B) ).

I managed to get a used copy of Suiko V from a video store when they sold some of there games to make room for new ones.

As for the Tales of Phantasia game, GH are you sure abouty Arche's dream, because in my GBA version she's mumbling about the main character(whose name escapes me at the moment) and it's full of innuendo, and she sounds like she's enjoying it.

But the game still has Ragnarok translated as Kangaroo, which nearly made me spittake, despite the fact I knew it was coming.

Arche was definitely dreaming about Cless, but DeJap blatantly sexualized it. It's something that makes the purists on the GameFAQs boards really mad, because originally Arche was *complaining* that Cless 'leave her alone' and then called him 'idiot' (or more accurately 'baka' if you want to be a japanophile).

Well, I second the recommendation of the dot hack games. One of the best strories ever.

And if you're looking for PC... Baldur's Gate 2. You don't have to play the first one (I didn't), and it has a great plot line, game play, and is basically the first D&D game that was any good.

Oh, and it has a crazy guy who thinks he has a hampster talking to him. GO FOR THE EYES, BOO!
seconded. If anyone chooses to play BG2 and is interested in modding it, I can recommend a wide series of mods that make bg2 all the more awesome.

If you're still after an MMO game, Guild Wars (and Nightfall and Factions) are MMORPG goodness that don't have a monthly fee. Which instantly gets me to rate them above things like World of Warcraft or Vanguard: Saga of Heroes.

The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind (and it's two expansions) are life-suckingly addictive, and while I wasn't really all that impressed by Oblivion because you need to mod the hell out of it before it's remotely a PC game (curse developers who dumb down PC games so they work on consoles! Ion Storm, I'm looking at you!) it's worth a play.

Finally... Deus Ex. I have played that more than is probably healthy. Not Deus Ex: Invisible War, however. How Ion Storm could have raped that game the way they did, I have no idea. :(

The Pocket Plane

The place to find mods and mod tools for Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2. Though I'm still waiting for the de'Arnise Romance mod.

Thanks. One more question. I seem o recall a mod that lets you stick with being Bodhi's ally throuhout BGII. What was its name?

(on a side note, using the cheat console to play as Ulvaryl is kinda h4x - she has absurdly high stats)

Redemption

But that has Irenicus... The Valen NPC might be what you're talking about, it has you allied with the vamps at the end of chapter 3.

Maybe the Longer Road? I can't recall are mod that has Bodhi as a playabily NPC.

As for the Hax0r... I prefer the use of Shadow Keeper. At least there you have full control over the varibles and all your stats.
