new Avatar season coming

Holy shit awesome, this fucking owns. This is incredible news.

* I am guessing this Avatar is Northern Water Tribe, although Southern can't be ruled out. Foggy Swamp probably can be. Also, I'm guessing it's a girl; the name sounds somewhat more feminine to my ears, and if it were a guy that would be three Avatars in a row who were male, and four in five.

* If it's only a hundred years after canon end, I wonder if there's any chance that some of the Gaang (obviously, not Aang himself) are still alive, and if they will appear in any capacity. Certainly the lives of the characters post-canon will be discussed.

* Energybending has to come up. Bending can be taken away, canon. Therefore it can probably be granted. And that would mean that they don't have to go into whether there were any surviving Airbenders in hidden, scattered communities. Although I suspect there would have been some of both.

* What the Fire Nation did under Zuko's lead in order to repair the damage from the war will probably be a pretty big part.

Damn it, I can't wait! How fucking long will it be before this starts airing?

If they have any originality it's either the water tribe, which would have to be the north, or a remnant of the Dail Lee.

Or some evil spirit and its allies or the really awesome option of Air Mongols-decendents of the survivors of the FN purge who hid in secret to build their numbers waiting fo the day they can emerge from seclusion and unleash their vengence on the world who let their ancestors' culture be destroyed.

It's on Wikipedia, so it must be true!

Hopefully, at least a couple of old characters will be around besides Aang. Preferably Toph and Azula, but Sokka is alright too. Heck, I'd like to see Sukie training the next generation of Kyoshi Warriors, and school Korra's traveling companions. It's definitely possible, since Kyoshi, Bumi, and the Guru all lived 100+ years, and it would be nice to see some characters from the original series.

I'm interested to see how Aang matured. He's had another eighty or ninety years to grow up, so I'm hopeful. Then again, Bumi had that much time, and he was still batshit crazy...

I'd say the villains would have to be Fire or Earth. Water would have to transport their bending materials with them, which would make them too slow and cumbersome, except near natural sources, and Air shouldn't have the numbers for a war. Then again, a secret organization that spans nations would be a lot more interesting, since that would mean that they'd have all sorts of benders and tactics, as well as plenty of opportunity for dissent within the organization.

Hey, maybe we'll finally get to see some Airbending vs. Airbending. That was one thing I always regretted never seeing.

Damn, what was the name of the fic where Aang stopp Sozin, and Sokka ended up being the new Avatar?

List of things I'd like to see:
-Iroh's teashop, preferably with the future firelord having to wait tables to learn a lesson of some kind.
-Air vs. Air, as previously stated
-Old Lady!Azula/Toph/Suki
-Backstory of rebuilding the Air Nomads
-What the fuck happened to the Sky Bison/Dragons?
-Korra being from the sexist Northern Tribes (Assuming Korra's a chick)
-Aang passing on Energybending, or Energybenders
-Evil!Member of the GAang (Or horribly jaded, either works)
-Active/Visible conflict between Earth Kings.
-New/Unusual uses for bending. (Stone hilts to manipulate blades, knocking people out by creating low pressure, etc.)
-Northern Air Temple 100 years later
-Koh
-Yue acting as co-spirit guide to Korra
-Descendants of the GAang, especially Aang and Toph

I don't need all of these, but I'd like a good chunk of them to appear at least.

Yes, Aang has to die before a new Avatar can be born, but what does that have to do with what I quoted?

How about old age? Granted, he would be a little on the young side at 90 or so, but that's still a perfectly reasonable age for natural death. Besides, if someone can kill a fully realized avatar with decades of experience, Korra is FUCKED.

Poisoned. That's the most likely answer to his demise. After all, what better way for an enterprising Young Upstart to get the head's up on the Old Super Monk ^_^.

I'm forced to agree with NDF on the Evil!Katara thing... I'd loose all hope and stop watching the series, cause it would mean either A)The guys writing it don't particularly care anymore and are at the point where they believe they can get away with anything... or B)There's some sort of unhappy Executive doing the mass meddling... neither one good for the health of the story.

I really want Aang to finally go out fighting. Preferably, fighting for something epic and important. The one thing that I don't recall Aang ever getting involved in was a truly epic fight sequence--they had ones for Zuko, Sokka, Suki, Katara, and Toph, but I can't think of anything that Aang ever got without Avatar State stuff (and frankly, most of those bored me). Aang needs a final, Wakfu Episode 17-style "I am the greatest and most powerful force of nature you will ever know, and if this is going to be my last stand it is going to ring in memory as the most awesome thing ever."

Nickelodeon Greenlights New Series From the Creators of the Animated Television Hit Avatar: The Last Airbender

Series Creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko Bring Fans a New Adventure in the Avatar World The Legend of Korra

BURBANK, Calif., July 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Nickelodeon, the number one producer of television animation in the world, has greenlit a new series from the creators of the hit animated TV show Avatar: The Last Airbender, it was announced today by Brown Johnson, President, Animation, Nickelodeon and MTVN Kids and Family Group. The new series The Legend of Korra (working title), from creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, will premiere on Nickelodeon in 2011, continuing the evolution of the animated franchise and its mythology. The original series was the inspiration for the Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies live-action epic adventure, The Last Airbender, which has already grossed more than $115 million at the box office to date.

"Mike and Bryan have imagined a compelling new story inspired by the Airbender mythology that they so brilliantly crafted when the TV series began," Johnson said. "This new avatar is not only a girl, but also hot-headed, independent and ready to take on the world."

The Legend of Korra takes place 70 years after the events of Avatar: The Last Airbender and follows the adventures of the Avatar after Aang û a passionate, rebellious, and fearless teenaged girl from the Southern Water Tribe named Korra. With three of the four elements under her belt (Earth, Water, and Fire), Korra seeks to master the final element, Air. Her quest leads her to the epicenter of the modern "Avatar" world, Republic City û a metropolis that is fueled by steampunk technology. It is a virtual melting pot where benders and non-benders from all nations live and thrive. However, Korra discovers that Republic City is plagued by crime as well as a growing anti-bending revolution that threatens to rip it apart. Under the tutelage of Aang's son, Tenzin, Korra begins her airbending training while dealing with the dangers at large.

Launched in February 2005, Avatar aired for three seasons on Nickelodeon and was ranked among the top five animated properties on television among boys, 2-11 and 6-11 (2005/2006). During this time, the series reached a total of 21.7 million total viewers (persons 2+), including 8.8 million kids 2-11 and 6.3 million kids 6-11*. Currently, Avatar: The Last Airbender is the number one program on Nicktoons among tweens. (Source: *Nielsen Cume Data - July 2008, Live + 7 day, 6 min. qualifier.)

Avatar: The Last Airbender was created and executive produced by Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko.

An award-winning filmmaker, DiMartino was a director at Film Roman for six years, working on the prime-time animated series King of the Hill, Family Guy and Mission Hill. During his tenure there, DiMartino animated and directed the short animated film Atomic Love, which has gone on to screen at festivals across the country including Sundance and the Los Angeles Film Festival. It also aired as part of the Nicktoons Network Animation Festival.

Konietzko began his career in animation as a character designer at Film Roman for Fox's prime-time series, Family Guy. He soon moved to the post of assistant director for two more Film Roman shows, Mission Hill and King of the Hill, working beside animation director DiMartino. Konietzko then became a storyboard artist and later an art director for the Nickelodeon animated series Invader Zim.

The new Avatar series will be produced at the Nickelodeon Animation Studios in Burbank, Calif., and is co-executive produced by Joaquim Dos Santos.

Nickelodeon, now in its 31st year, is the number-one entertainment brand for kids. It has built a diverse, global business by putting kids first in everything it does. Well, Aang's death ought to be an important factor in the season, since dying in his fifties implies that it wasn't natural, and that will probably set the tone for the season, since anti-bending has become prominent.

Anti-bending... I'm curious how that will develop, especially so quickly. It could be well or poorly done, and I think that the quality of the portrayal will set the tone of the series.

Well, on the bright side, with the series being only 70 years in the future, the likelihood of the original heroes showing up greatly increases. I wonder if any of them were mentors for Korra... Toph's unique style and metalbending would be a great help, and I could see Aang advising Korra to seek her out.

I really want to see how badass Toph has become in 70 years. :snigger:
