If by 'Avatar time' they mean that he was subconsciously burning through his own energies to keep himself alive in a suspended state, then I guess I can buy that.
That does make sense. I mean, wasn't he glowing brightly when they found him in the ice?
Yeah, he'd basically been in the Avatar State the whole time in order to preserve himself and Appa; if he'd died like that because no one found him before the energies burned out then no more Avatar Spirit.
Actually that does make sense, and could explain why the Avatar's don't just basically live in the Avatar State once they learn how to. Which always kind of bugged me.

I can feel the fail building in this one. 50 years to make that was the backbone of the societies for the three remaining nations other than the Air Nomads into something hated? In a world where a coalition of bender from those nations saved the world alongside the Avatar? Yeah, not so much.

Although I can see a crackish angle with Azula acting like a much meaner Iroh and ending up as the kid's instructor in firebending.

As for making things more mature, you don't get nastier than Azula losing her mind or concepts like bloodbending.

This is like the retards that remade Texas Chainsaw Massacre talking about how they were going to make things more psychological and less gory. Um, the original used like two gallons of fake blood total and showed almost no on-screen gore because it would cost to much and the bedget was limited.

Well I don't think it was indicated that the anti-bender sentiment is very wide spread much less universal, it may be consolidated in some radical fringe group.

One of the big problems in the first series was Aang's refusal to kill the Fire Lord. Yes it all worked out, but what would he have done if he didn't meet that turtle? He took the morally easy way out. The hard way doesn't always involve being merciful.

The series could be more mature if Korra willing kills someone.
Why would you choose such an immature action to symbalize maturity?
I think he's talking about issue that Batman has about not killing villains who truly deserve it (Joker).

Just antagonists that would become a serious problem in the future if they aren't snuffed out accordingly.

All I know is Aang hadn't figured out energy bending, Ozai would have been out of prison again leading rebellions, then promptly assassinating his own son.
Let's answer these in order:

Batman is not against the Joker getting killed. Batman believes that this is a form of justice that must be carried out according to the rule of law. Batman doesn't kill. But he's happy to put a killer on death row. Proven many, many times. He even allowed a random man whose daughter had been murdered to have access to the Joker to choose the Joker's fate, right there in the Batcave, with a gun on the table in front of him and everything.

Batman doesn't kill. But he recognizes and respects that it is appropriate in some cases.

Aang not killing Fire Lord Ozai satisfied a number of important aspects.

First, it was a fairly appropriate form of justice, considering the person who carried it out. When you are told that all life is sacred, then that you must kill a man, and then given an alternative, which do you choose? Life is cheap. It's proven more than once during the original three seasons. Living--and choosing to allow life--is much harder. Aang takes the much more difficult path, and for better or worse we aren't shown enough to do more than hope it was the right one. Aang comes from a society that abhors violence, and still actively practices most of their beliefs even after most of those died out with the Air Nomads. Killing Ozai would have been monstrously out of character not just for him, but for the entire Air Nomad society. Perhaps not his new friends from the Water Tribes, Earth and Fire Nation, but they aren't the ones tasked with finding the solution are they?

Second, it is a children's cartoon, watched by parents and children. No doubt many parents quietly agree with the "he should have been killed' argument. But I'm also willing to bet that most of them also thought to themselves "he shouldn't be killed by a 12 year old boy." Aang is a boy. One of the best parts of the ending is that he still has some semblance of a childhood left to live out after the show is over.

Man, this is gonna suck. They're changing everything, and if Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko are known for anything it's half-assed ideas and execution.

Wait, that's not how it goes at all.

I think they're still aiming for a children's audience, though the art still doesn't fit a kiddie show.

In order.

1. I wasn't stating that you take away heat to make ice, I'm slightly more educated than Smallville. My ultimate question was 'what's happening to the HEAT? How are they creating ice from what's probably lukewarm water in about two seconds?'. And then I answered that no matter how you looked at it there wasn't a 'hard science' answer so it's best not to think about it (and that it's about as realistic as Avatar time).

2. Killing people is hardly a sign of maturity. A sign of different cultural norms and personality maybe, but killing should never be confused with a sign of maturity. The two are simply different things that writers have an unfortunate tendency to confuse. If the writing is more serious than the show is more serious. Killing (like sexuality) does not make something more mature. Also, despite the widespread audience Avatar is still a children's show. They might be able to get away with something a bit more obvious than Jet's death but it would be a bad sign if they start looking for excuses to kill off a character just for that.

3. Admittedly it's probably because it's a children's show, but I am glad that they're making a buff heroine and not a busty one. If only Japan could do that outside of children characters.

I like where this is going.

Too bad you can't see her face, she has a manly face like Lightning from FF XIII.

I'm actually happy about this.

I liked the original series, and I really liked the final 4-part episode. My only real gripe was that they never did answer what happened with Zuko's mother and that bit of a mystery of what exactly she did to make Ozai the Fire Lord. I feel the original series stands well on its own as complete. I wasn't really enthusiastic about a new series with (mostly) all new characters, and wasn't planning on watching it. But I might watch a miniseries like this.

I'm still skeptical of the whole "anti bender" thing and want further details.

It's going to take a while to get used to it. The contrast between the old cities and the newer looking ones is quite odd.

I just saw the trailer that's been out, and I was impressed. I don't know if I want to actually watch this, because I liked the original series a lot, and thought it stood well on its own. But after what I've seen so far, I might give it a shot.

After watching the trailer I had a few initial thoughts that might be way off, but here they are. The anti-bending movement that was mentioned looks to be made of people using chi-blocking like Ty Lee in the original. That makes them a much more credible threat than I was imagining.

Also, the masked person at the end is likely their leader. The only reason to wear a mask is to hide your identity, so it's probably going to be a character we see before the big reveal. My craziest theory is that this masked person is the one who founded the anti-bending movement because he has a serious grudge against all benders, but particularly the Avatar...former Fire Lord Ozai.

He already hated air-, water-, and earth-benders. After being thrown over for his son, I wouldn't be surprised if he started hating fire-benders. Plus Aang took away his bending. And even though this series is 70 years later, Bumi's character shows that Ozai could still be alive. I'm probably way off, but I think that would be an interesting twist. Plus he could be voiced by Mark Hamill, using his evil Joker/Ozai voice!

Anyway, that's my initial crazy theories. Anyone besides me think this would be interesting?
