So I was browsing AnimeNewsNetwork just now, for perhaps the first time in a year, and suddenly, this:

<a href='http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-08-21/love-hina-manga-returns-with-1-shot-story-in-september' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>Love Hina Manga Returns with 1-Shot Story in September</a>.

:jawdrop:

Seriously, my jaw literally dropped when I saw it.

It's been NINE years since the manga ended. Of all the things I could have somewhat expected Ken Akamatsu to do, especially with him now working on Negima, revisiting Love Hina even for a one-shot was totally and completely unexpected.

I've heard it's only going to be a few pages, like five or six or something like that.

It'll probably be something like Keitaro and Naru with a newborn child. Ugh.

Look on the bright side, maybe Naru's mellowed out with age and gotten as stable as Asuna and Chisame (but considering it's Naru we're talking about I pretty much doubt it).

And Keitaro is still emulating Seta by being the Seta clone, it seems. Makes you you wonder if Keitaro and Naru will name one of their kids after him...

*Naru*, stable?

Hah. Ha ha. HA HA. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

It is to laugh.

Naru's actually one of the nicer tsunderes, when you think about it. Sadly, a lot of people rag on her primarily because they like one or more of the other girls, so however she might act compared to, say, Louise or Kagome gets rather conveniently forgotten.

I won't deny Louise is far more on the frustrating tsun level then naru but kagome? I thought she was relatively up front but her liking Inu compared to Naru who literally spent a whole volume of Manga Running away from Keitaro late in the manga. Is kagome petty at times? Hell yeah won't deny it but her partner was just as bullheaded stuck between two women. Even Saito pulls idiot moves and isn't THAT faithful to Louise after they get together.

Naru and keitaro is completely different in the relationship set up, especially after Keitaro has gotten his act together. All the late manga 'drama' is Naru unable to grow the fuck up and admit her feelings to the point all the other girls have to practically HAND Keitaro to her *dissolves into a long rangy rant*.... I'll admit I'm more biased but I have trouble not seeing Naru right up there in the up tier of annoying tsundere...

Admittedly I needed a second tsun and wasn't familiar with many others. But Kagome's love triangle with Inuyasha and Koga, a guy whose first appearance includes slaughtering a shitton of random peasants and getting away with it? She's also a Takahashi heroine, and Akane was too overused for me to mention her instead.

And yes, Naru was painfully slow to admit her feelings, though at least she finally did so. I think at least part of that was an inferiority complex, though, with her believing the other girls had more of a 'right' to him than she did. That's just me making shit up on the spot, though.

If not for her Plot armor, Keitaro would have ended up with Mutsumi or Motoko.

Seriously, there was nothing she really had going for her that the other girls didn't have better.

Still, nice to see the characters still exist in Ken's mind.

I think one of the main issues with the manga (and OVA) concerning Keitaro and Naru ending up together was that Keitaro came back as the second coming of Seta, and that Naru had forgotten the childhood promise (she can be excused with that she was two years old that time) and had a crush on Seta that many would compare to Asuka's crush on Kaji and never seemed to have gotten over Seta at all despite on insisting that she had.

Some probably didn't like that because to them it would be like Shinji Ikari becoming a clone of Kaji to appease Asuka.

And for that matter at least Kagome gave off the vibe that she accepted Inu-Yasha as he was and wouldn't want him to turn into a full human just to make her happy.

Ehhh... I rank Kagome a far bit nicer than Naru... InuYasha actually does things to warrant her anger, and Kagome gets nowhere near as angry as Naru or say Akane...

Of the more well known ones from anime I watch, I rank Louise (ZNT) / Naru (LH) / Akane (Ranma) worst of lot, then Kagome (IY), then Kaname (FMP)

One thing to remember is that Keitaro LIKES Naru the way she is. The impression I got at the end of the manga is that some of his "accidents" involving Naru, weren't. It's more of a game he plays with her.

I suspect he's also a bit of a masochist.

It could probably be argued that this was an addition made only to help force the Kei/Naru conclusion.

I know this has been discussed endlessly, but if the first volumes were painful, the last volumes were rage-inducing.

Agreed... besides... My interpretation of the last scene at the end of 14 had Naru seriously going after him and hitting him at their wedding. Not a sign of a lasting marriage.

Too bad I never really got the feeling that Naru shared the same sentiment, taking in consideration that for all purposes she had already won when Keitaro confessed to her in the hospital and that she avoided him for a long time. And several volumes later plus a time skip plot device Naru began to "reciprocate" more after Keitaro came back looking and acting like Seta, and began making out with him in secret like in the hot springs; and still Grandma Hina and the time capsule was needed to give Naru an additional nudge to openly admit her relationship with Seta Lite.

That's probably why I wish that more of the Love Hina games will be translated in order for people to experience better Keitaro x Naru endings.

After he (accidentally) stripped her topless in front of the wedding guests, if you'll remember.

That would be incorrect. What he did was rip the skirt part of her dress off leaving her in her top and panties

Since when are wedding dresses two-pieces?

ESPECIALLY around someone known for accidents of that nature.

True.

I just find it odd that Naru just happened to wear the only wedding dress I've seen like that, ever. It's almost like she was setting Keitaro up.

Plus, I didn't get the impression that she was really angry then. To me, it seemed more like she was playing with Keitaro. Even if the skirt thing was unintentional.

VIZ English retail book 14 sure make it look like anger to me, and then there is that final panel, which I'm told is not in the original.

Well, whatever.

Tokyopop did the translations, not Viz.

And yeah, the last panel wasn't translated properly. She does not say "I'm keeping my maiden name", when it's the opposite. In the original, when Keitaro calls her Narusegawa, she says, "I'm no longer Narusegawa".

The one-shot has been posted in 4chan /a/, and translated by Anonymous.

Get it while it's hot (and while the thread is still alive):

... Well, that was pointful. Thanks Akamatsu, we couldn't live without seeing another bit of your first hit manga and another bit of Naru punching Keitaro... Which got old around, oh, Volume Two of Love Hina.

Thanks so much for that, really.

I actally had a couple of good laughs. Maybe is nostalgia (I read the manga for the first time 7 years ago), but I liked it. Then again, I didn't have big expectations.
