Missing Threads

I've noticed that we seem to be missing a few threads, either that or there are some odd permissions stuff between here and oTFF.

The ones I noticed were several of the loop ones, I had been looking for the Force Propelled One to post something in it and then discovered that the thread isn't on this one while it's still available at the oTFF

Can you give thread names/authors? Would likely help in hunting down what happened.

The only ones I can say for sure are some of the loop fics, namely the ones that were by several people posting to it.

Force propelled Loops is the one that had me look and I'm not entirely sure about the names of the others because I went through the loop index list

Oh, the Force Propelled Loops were in the movie ideas section. Funny thing about that section: when Hawk made oTFF he accidentally made the Movie Ideas section accessible to perverted members only.

When he stopped visiting TFF he made the Restricted section available to everyone, but failed to do the same for the Movie Ideas section. Shirotsume joined after Hawk left, and when he forked the forum he only got the parts he could see--so everything but people's PMs, email addresses (note: add a fucking email to your account if you're reading this and haven't yet) and the entire movie ideas section.

That explain it?

Is it possible to bring the threads from Movie Ideas from oTFF to nTFF now that Hawk changed it? Because he did change it so everyone could view it after the move.

We have and we can?
You may wanna lay off the booze there, wata. :p

While it's theoretically possible, it'll involve an _assload_ of work, and asking spork to do an assload as well.

That post originally said, "Shirotsume and I have joked about it" before I realized that sounded disingenuous. I think the last time we brought it up was before I took over as admin, back when you were surprised to learn that there HAD been a movie ideas section. Your summation was "Yeah we can probably do it but fuck all if I'm going to right now".

For those wondering what the big deal is, we would essentially be re-importing the forum, or reprogramming the crawler.

The crawler works by loading topic 0 and shoving away the data about it including where it goes, then topic 1, then 2, etc etc.

So we would have to refarm ALL of oTFF again, and THEN I would have to take out every duplicate post, then 'repackage' it, and then finally hand it over to spork, who then has to manually load the new package into the site- taking the site down for at least half an hour and hopefully not corrupting data or god forbid adding several million spurious entries that causes the entire server to go BLARGH all over everything.

Both of which happened last time.

The More You Know~!

So, basically yes it's possible but since it involves all that work there's really no point in doing it. Good to know.

Eh, that's up to wata or ero to decide.

It's not the work that I'm worried about, it's the possibility of losing nTFF material that makes me reluctant to go forward with it. Shiro's already warned me against using Icyboard's built-in account merger capability, because of the small but real chance of deleting both accounts. Given that the built-in system has that risk, why would i ever want t gamble with the ad-hoc version that puts the entire forum at risk?

We actually had that happen (both accounts being deleted) to Vex's account. That's why he has a bunch of posts associated to him that he shouldn't- we just shoved all the posts by deleted members under a new account for him, since 95% of the posts by deleted members were his.
