More than meets the eye

As some of you may know. Transformers comes out tomorrow, July 3rd and July 4th everywhere to theaters. What some didn't know was a few select theaters were playing it 6 hours earlier. I happened to find this out on my own by finding it playing in a local theater in Utah where I'm at. So after work I went directly to the theater and watched it.

I will sum it up in two words.

PURE WIN! :yay: :yay: :yay:

Michael Bay is going to be our generation's Steven Spielberg, especially when he was a producer on it. If these two continue to do movies together the movie industry will boom with new ideas.

Not only was it made of Pure win, but it totally blew anything out of the water. Expect it to be a weekend blockbuster as people go to it.

I wont spoil it, but if you wish for them PM me and I'll tell you what you want to know.

Seikyo.

...

You have no clue how happy this post made me.

I've been expecting that i'd have to tell people that "Yes, I understand the movie sucked, but I loved it anyway", as my childhood revolved around the Transformers.

Now, my one question is: How much talking time did the various robots get? Was it just Prime? Did Jazz get any kick ass lines? Is Starscreams voice as grating as ever?

Just got back from the movie.

F**K YEAH!

Lines were lame, cliches everywhere, but the animation was BEAUTIFUL!

and even if it was kinda lame, it stayed true to the old Transformers.

Funny in some parts, but I liked the references to Japanese technology.

"I think it's Japanese...yeah, definitely Japanese."

And the Nokia phone, yeah. Little samurai with a gun.

Product placement and advertising was everywhere, but that seemed to make the movie better, not worse.

Combat scenes were incredible, and if Advent Children or Appleseed looked half this good, it would, well...I dunno, but it would be something.......or something.

I can't wait to see it. I loved the show when I was young (wasn't so happy about Beast Wars, tho  ) so I want to see. Probably going to wait a few days, though, leave the swarms behind. The only movie I anticipate more: The Simpsons. Been obsessed since the SuperBowl sneak peek. Best part of the Bowl were the commercials, after all, seeing as the Bears lost. :( Oh well, there's always next year... :huh.:

That's crazy! Beast Wars was good, Beast Machines was the sucky one!

And I'm seeing the movie tomorrow. Hurrah!

Very few.

Was it just Prime?
Prime's would be almost half of all their lines put together. Some of the Deceptecons seemed to be there only so that the good guys would have something to kill.

Did Jazz get any kick ass lines?
Sorta. Not that those did him any good. RIP Jazz.

Is Starscreams voice as grating as ever?
Annoyingly so.

Wow this topic is a total 180 from everything else I've heard, a couple other people I know online have seen it and were less than happy. All I heard were all the lines were crap and the plot sucked and the transformers are only onscreen kicking ass for about 30% of the movie. I've even seen some people comparing Bay to Boll

What they failed to mention is that for that 30% alone, I would rewatch the movie twice in one setting. The action makes up for everything else. It's that good.

Not everywhere unfortunately. I'll be waiting a couple more weeks.

Yeah. July 4th everywhere in the US. Should have made that a little more clear. :( Sorry you have to wait for a few weeks.

Oh and you should stay to see the credits. It looks like there might be another one as there was something in the credits that made it seem that all was not completed.

Don't make me come over there and smack you.

Michael Bay can direct explosions and gunfights like no other director, however, he is not a storyteller like Spielberg.

Well give him a few years and we'll see what he does with it.

Bad Boys 2.

Armageddon.

Con Air.

Not what I call fine examples of storytelling.

Don't get me wrong, they're all fine pieces of popcorn entertainment. They're fine if you want to switch your brain off for a couple of hours.

Michael Mann, David Fincher, Steven Spielberg, and when he's not having fun with his cast, Steven Soderburgh, those are all directors that have proven themselves to be better storytellers than Michael Bay.

I must say that I was sitting on the fence with this one - I saw the animated version on the big screen 20 years ago (s you can imagine, Transformers holds a special place in my heart) - but judging by the response it's generated, I think that I might have to give it a go.

I just got back from the movie, and I'd recommend it. I really liked it.

Fuck yes. I was expecting to walk out of that theater with my head in my hands, but I was extremely pleased.

Thank you Micheal Bay. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

The movie kicked ass. The only bad thing was that I had to suffer through a 5-year old kid constantly asking his mom stupid questions every time an autobot or decepticon came on.

I liked it, though for me it lacked that extra something to make it an absolute favorite.

For me the biggest thing about it was hearing Peter Cullen reprise his role as Optimus Prime.:yay: Too bad they didn't get Chris Latta back to do the few lines that Starscream had or Frank Welker for Megatron.

While Welker does do Megatron in the movie games, Chris Latta will never voice Starcream again or anyone else, because, unfortunately, he died 13 years ago.

I went and saw it last night.

In an theature full of 22-27 year olds. NO KIDS.

It was awesome. Optimus got an ovation the first time we saw him. Fight scenes were fucking awesome. Animation was just unreal and meshed so well. The humor was well done and the references to the original series were great.

Fuck what anyone says, its awesome if you were a fan of the cartoons.

The folks in the crowed gave it a standing ovation at the end. Was worth seeing, and the DVD/Blu-ray will so be mine when it releases.

Overall, it's awesome. The first half is more Spielberg as it revolves around the humans. The second half is more Bay, with robot fights. Each half has its strengths and weaknesses. The weakest part of the movie is a sub-plot involving some hackers that really isn't necessary and doesn't add anything.

And yes, I'm going to go see it again and yes I'm getting the DVD when it comes out.

It was nice to see the original form of Bumblebee next to the Movie version in the carsale lot.

However, what Autobots or Decepticons do you think should be in the next Movie if they decide to make one?

My opinion is either:

Autobots
Kup & Hot Rod
or
Springer & RC

Decepticons
Soundwave
Thrust
and maybe PredaKing

Comments?

well, its sounding like Soundwave, the constructicons and dinobots are vary large canidates. I'm hoping for more Starscream in the next one, and perhaps Megatron to return as Galvatron.
