Most memorable RPG moments

Was considering the Square Enix discussion when I reminisced on fond moments in RPG's... so feel free to share your favorites

Xenosaga- ALbedo's monologue to Momo.... Still rates as the OMGWTFBBQ! moments... whoever his VA was, captured scare the shit out of you Insanity perfect during that speech... Not to mention Albedo rippuing his own HEAD OFF!

ITs fun when your muttering to yourself while playing "Okay...everybody back away slowly fromt he nice crazy man... any sudden movements might attract his attention.....

Lunar 2- WHen Zophar publically emerges onto Lunar... A very nice 'Oh this is bad' moment... or perhaps in a more Serenity themed phrase:

"Interesting"

"Define interesting"

"Oh god, oh god we're all going to die?"

Disgaea- Prism Rangers intro

"BLUUUEEEE!!!! YELLLOWWWWW!!!"

Need I say more?

Shadow Hearts covenant- Yuri Vs Rasputain and airship. Lets see Rasputin in semi-gloat, Yuri giving that awsome smirk, Amon trashing the airship, Rasputin going into shock 'Impossible! The mistletoe!!', all capped with Rasputin giving in to HIS demon.... Perfect scene...

ANy scenes you guys care to share?

KOTOR when you discover that you ARE Revan.

But yeah, the Sophar thing in LUNAR 2 was pretty nasty.

The Sephiroth attack on Shinra near the beginning of FFVII was a creepy moment when you see the trail of carnage as is the thing with the impaled Midgar Zolem.

Bahamuts attack in FF9 was a damn it moment

I prefered Alexander's single scene in FF9. From the wtfpwn it did to Bahumut, and the wtfpwning it got from the Invincible.

I totally agree with that one. It's probably the first on my list.

I would also put a classic one. Baldur's Gate 2, when Irenicus steals your soul. That one chilled me to the bone.

Lesse, first of those moments is going to be a bit dated.... Ulitma 7 part Two (aka Serpent Isle) when your friends get possessed by the three shards of Chaos and go slaughter roughly 9/10 of all NPcs (and trash the Cities of the Serpent Isles) Then again Ultima 7 as a whole, (that is both games, plus UW2, Laberynth of Worlds) make for a very memorably gaming experience. Few were the times that I have met an oponent as thorough and calculating as The Guardian, hell, don't recall any other RPG villian that could come close to him.

Torment, ahhh.... Ravel's explanation and the confrontation with the trascendent one (nuff said)

FF6, when everything goes to hell in a handbasket (aka Kefka and the statues)

Chrono Trigger- the first fight with Magus
FFV- Galuf's final moments
FFVI- Waking in the World of Ruin
BG2- Trying to fend off Phaere's affections without getting killed
NWN- The scene with Aribeth on top of the Luskan wizard's tower
KotOR- Forcing Zalbar to kill Mission
Jade Empire- Main character's death
Vampire: the Masquerade- the final fight between Jeanette and Therese

Lesse, for me the list has, among others,

Avatar Tuner: The fight with the Hitoshura and the message afterwards.

SMT3: The Kotowari bosses, both first meeting and then fighting them.

Romancing Saga: any of the Minion fights.

Breath of Fire 5: the fight with Elyon.

Makai Kingdom: The whole corn scenario.

Breath of Fire 3: The scene before you fight the Tyrant Dragon, if you have the right characters.

Galerions: Ash: The intros for the other Galerians.

SaGa Frontier: T260-G's boss fight.

Breath of Fire 4: The bad ending scene.

I dunno. I was pretty much betting on something like that as soon as they brought up the Force Visions. The moment was well done, yeah, but they pretty much foreshadowed it to death for me.

Other than that ... well, I still have an intense dislike for Bastilla. That woman is just ... annoying.

Planescape:Torment - the ending FMV. As for creepiness ... conversation with the skull pillar ... brrr. The first time you're in the Sigil slums BBQ (otherwise known as Ignus' little haunt) and you get the option to buy back and eye, yank out one of your own, and put it into the now empty socket. That was pretty much where I realized this was going to be less of a game and more of an experience.

FFVI: Celes Chere. Cliff. Do the math.

Grandia 2: Millenia by the pond. Also, Ryudo's 'asshole' moments during the early/mid portion of the game, esp. the one that pretty much resides in my brain ever since, and which I remember whenever I see an RPG quest depiction given to the hero 'I'm sorry, that's not quite vague enough for me. Could you be a little less specific?'

Fallout: specifically, the ending and subsequent exile of the protagonist.

P&P Warhammer: where, in the course of an escape from a dungeon in which the party was being kept prisoner, my rogue failed a sneaking roll and was nearly killed by a dwarven torturer wielding a fried cow leg. Down to four HP, swinging a pilfered battle-axe (because they took all the party's stuff) without the proficiency (meaning only 10% to hit chance), he then managed a double critical that basically hacked the dwarf apart from shoulder to hip. I spent five minutes just staring at the dice after that.

Well if we're going to include P&P games...

BESM- set in a cowboy world, our party is forced to start a cattle stampede by shooting some of the cows in the rear (Incidentally it took over 10 rounds for the stampedeing cattle to actually BREAK OUT of the corral... Don't ask, its a LONG story).

In the second shot, one fo the charcters role a critical hit.

SNickers begin.

Then someone had the bright idea to ask the GM to describe the effect of the shot... Basically amounted to a WHOLE NEW MEANING of the term 'Lead Enema'. Laughter cripples to table for 10 minutes....

which was extended another 10 minutes when the GM in response toa gasped pondering of what it sounded like gives off the most bewildered MOOO???? :huh!: !!! ever heard...

It literally hurt for me to breath for a short while afterwards...

honorable mention- In the same session earlier, our gambler of unknown gender (Really not even he was sure if he was male or female) attempting to seduce the attacking INdian, while he was charging in on his horse...attempting to scalp the gambler. Of course hte clincher was when this didn't work the first time, he tried to do it AGAIN!

Honorable mention- The dawning look of comprehension to a newbie joining a 'Paranoia' game... (And if you don't know what the RPG Paranoia is, than you won't understand that comment)

Well, I've played a LOT of video games, but I will only put down some recents.

.Hack GU: After played .hack infection and it's sequels, this whole game took the cake. Memorable moment being when tri-edge first appears (and the ensuing fight) and just about every time Haseo calls Skeith.

FF8: The opening scene where Squall fights Seifer. Back in the day, that was the shit for me.

Disgaea: Etna waking him up...oww.

Disgaea 2: When you defeat Laharl for the second time with Flonne, and the ensuing anime sequence!

Legend of Legaia: The whole game was memorable, but I can't find it anymore.

Zelda Twilight Princess: It actually seems like Link is gonna say a word in it! ...It turns out to be a grunt. =P

Devil May Cry 1 and 3: Come on, these defined cool. I especially liked the opening scenes.

Castlevania: Symphony of Darkness: The most fun of the Castlevania games, IMHO. Memorable moment being the moment I got the Crissaegrim and the game turned absurdly easy. Also Axe-man armor.

If your going to add Zelda games I have to include OoT, when Link first pulls out the Master Sword and realizes that Ganondorf wtfpwned him and Zelda.

I still say the greatest scene is the boat scene in the Tales of Phantasia SNES ROM. I have mentioned it a lot, but man, that scene was great...

Makai Kingdom: The whole corn scenario.
I just played through MK again to get some of the Overlords recently and saw that scene again. The corn jokes get a bit overdone by the end, but still a great bit. I mean, how many games have lines like "Pop this corn to hell."

There was the part of I think the first Tomb Raider with the raptors and Rex.

There was the time in Werewolf the Apocalypse where my Get of Fenris challenged the Sept Alpha for the leadership of the Sept, thinking he'd just get a good scrap out of it and test himself against the Ahroun (who has quite the rep). The Shadow Lord Ahroun, not wanting to accidentally shred me (was I totally underestimated?) declares that the challenge will be a debate. I treat it like a joke, debating with a newly-hatched chicken on my head. And win. I don't know who was more surprised.

And then there's my Hutt gangster. Rightly feared for his enormous social skills and intelligence. Generally laughed at when it came to a fight - I'd never rolled better than a 5 on any dice in a fight, ever. Generally I'd fumble and pratfall, drop my weapons, you name it. I wasn't even large enough to be used for cover.

Until the attack where I win initiative, slither into the bank we're robbing and carve the security droid in two with one stroke of my vibroaxe. It's fortunate that the other PCs were around to deal with the other droid because I was standing there, looking at my axe and the destroyed droid, wondering what the hell just happened.

In FF7 when I defeated the Emerald Weapon. Cloud was the only party member still alive and had around 100 HP left. One Omnislash later, and I barely won.

Just recently, in FFXII, I had one of the most dangerous battles against Zeromus. I won't go too far into detail, but let's just say I used a lot of Phoenix Downs, Quickenings, and saying the words 'son of a bitch!'

In FF4, when Cid 'died'. I was literally feeling sad.

When Teepo died in Breath of Fire III. That was my favorite character in the game too, dammit!

That's all I can think of right now.

Ryudo's asshole lines are priceless. He should never have been pussified near the end. The one that stands out in my mind is the line to Selene after the Eye of Valmar mess:

"Well, well. Look at what the slavish devotion to sanctimonious bloodshed dragged in. What brings you here, or did I just answer myself?"

Kerrigan's capture by the Zerg in Starcraft was memorable as was her speech at the end of Brood War.

"I'm pretty much the queen bitch of the universe..."

It says a lot

Planescape: Torment - finding the memory of debating someone out of existance.

as well as the whole of the Dakkon Zerth' interactions.

edit: for PS:T these were just the cream of the crop that i can remember.

A lot of events in PS:T were quite memorable. The nameless one's interlude with Deionarra in the fortress of regrets, his advice to Trias after defeating him, conversations with Ravel...

If only NWN2 could have had this sort of depth... :blue:

FFVI: Waiting for Shadow at the Floating Continent...not being able to save after the boss, and the countdown ticking down...My hands trembled for days...

Vampire the Masquerade: Redemption = Finding out the nun you had fallen in love with had been turned into a Tzimisze ghoul...

Fighting a Vozhd for the first time...All of his attacks could kill a party member in one hit, and it seems terribly unfair and unbalanced form the programers until you figure out how to kill it.

Finding out you had to directly combat the final boss who was only defeated by at least 30 min of my strongests spells (including prison of ice) and weapons while you routinely walk through the shadows away for blood...

I'm surprised that no one mentioned the opera scene from FF VI, or Aeris getting killed in FF VII.

I also liked the fight with Gilgamesh in FF XII. "I've fought worse!"

FF8: The battle between the gardens.

Parasite Eve: Fighting Eve in central park in the horse carrage.

Xenosaga: When Kos-mos goes all badass when the woglinde battle happens.

At least if he actually kissed her, there'd be no doubts about his sexuality. But seeing how he didn't, and was obsessed with Clod (spelling purposeful, BTW), and seeing what he looked like in Advent Children (after possessing that poor bastard, he became noticeably gayer), we all can agree Suckeroth is not straight.

Bah, the only scene in ALL of FF7 I liked was the one where Diamond Weapon WTFPWNED Rufus and was WTFPWNED back by the Sister Ray. All the other scenes were lame.
