n00bs, what are they?

Apologies, problem rectified.
It's fine, as you removed the link. Not a problem so long as it's solved fast enough...

Anyway, back to the topic at hand.

Actually, I'm more interested in hearing how you veterans would define a 'newbie'.
I'm with the majority, I guess.

Although, I don't really care much for definitions of that nature, really. I don't really care how long someone's been doing something, just so long as they can do it! If you can post, discuss, surf the forum with a decent amount of proficiency, you'll all set to me. You're only being a newbie when you're doing awkward things when you should know better. Posting up lemon material in the non-lemon forum is a good example of that, but even 'veterans' make mistakes so that's not a completely good indicator. It's when you KEEP doing stupid stuff that you show that you're new. And if you KEEP doing stuff even after being repeatedly wrong, then (apparently) you're a n00b.

We've only had two 'n00bs' here as of yet. One's banned, since his offenses were severe enough to warrant it, and the other has disappeared.

In other words, I don't really consider anyone here a newbie, I just don't know most of you all that well at the moment.

Sorry, I thikn I confused Lilith with Unit 01/Yui, although I know the difference between them, I guess I just got confused for a moment, sorry.
Eh? Not a problem. Just didn't remember it all too clearly. That happens, especially since it sounds like you didn't read that chapter all the way through. That happens to me at points.

Anyways, Zenithos is trying to get back on topic, so i suppose I should avoid deviation
Meh, nothing wrong with a side conversation to the main topic. *shrug* I've never really understood the obsession with not going off-topic. Sure, coming from nowhere (like suddenly posting about a TV-show in a topic about video games, with no prompting) is kinda jarring, but even so...

Chill, wifey. Considering how much 4chanese and blatant sexual innuendos we throw around outside the Hardcore forum, one mistake every once in a while is no fucking reason to flip out like you're PMSing.
I was fine when it got posted, it happens.

I was surprised when you quoted it, 'cause you should know better. (especially considering how often it seems to happen.)

I was annoyed when Zenithos quoted it, 'cause I JUST said to not do so.

Perhaps I'm overacting, but I think I'm entitled to be annoyed when it happens, not once, or twice, but three times in the same thread, one after another, right after my warning. Hawk is fine with mature themes and hints, but he has stated in the rules that blatant material is a no-no, and I'll follow those rules. Although, I'll admit that I'm also feeling a bit annoyed at my Internet connection which is being a bitch at the moment, so I apologize if that's seeped through.

Yeah, I messed up when I quoted it, mainly because I was multitasking when I did, and I'd like to see you keep track of 15 windows at once. -_- So I zoned out and screwed up by not removing the link, sue me.

It's not something I do often, after all. And frankly, with all the 4chan shit on the not-hardcore part of the forum, I'd argue you have to be 18 to read the REST of it, not just the Hardcore section. :snigger:

At least nobody has linked the Unholy Trinity yet...

Cool,

*wipes the gallons of sweat from brow with a towel*

Anyway, back to the whole discussion of newbies and n00bs. I agree with the whole description as said earlier. I'll admit, I was a newbie after I read Neon Exodus Evangelion. So, consequencially, my first attempts at fanfiction failed MISERABLY! As in I re-read what I wrote and tore down the fic. Then I rewrote it and made the story line more believeable. Now that I've read more good and bad fanfiction and know how I would personify it, the issue is now about how to make sure the chapter is well thought out and not hastily done.

So to reiterate, I agree with a previous person's post:

Newbie= has promise, just stupid for the time being

n00b= NO PRAYER OF A CHANCE TO SUCCEED (unless it's on FFN... more shitfics than decent ones)

I disagree. I consider newbies as people who are intelligent enough, they just lack experience.

Now n00bs, on the other hand, SHOULD know better, having experience, but just refuse to learn from their mistakes, or even admit they made them. They keep it up and just make those who try to help them mad because they are wasting their time.

Unfortunately, telling a n00b apart from a troll is hard. They display similar behavior, but in the troll's case, they do it specifically to piss you off.

*Sues*

*Gets money*

*Gives money to husband*

...wait...

And for your information, I'm keeping track of over twenty windows... with my Internet connection being fucking stupid, so there! :p (Although, you'll note the results of THAT in the Challenge Game thread.)

And frankly, with all the 4chan shit on the not-hardcore part of the forum, I'd argue you have to be 18 to read the REST of it, not just the Hardcore section.
Yes, there's 4chan stuff, but honestly, none of it that gets posted outside of the lemon section is actual mature content. It's mostly juvenile things, as all of the ACTUALLY extreme stuff like...

At least nobody has linked the Unholy Trinity yet...
RAWGH! That, doesn't get posted. So, no, I disagree.

As I said, don't tempt me, dear. It happened once in my old forum.

Let's just say I scarred a lot of people for assuming they knew what I would do.

Yes, you COULD do it, but honestly, why? It's not going to do much to me (I've already seen such things, and they've lost their shock value). At best, you'd scar some innocents, and get away with it, at worst (although not extremely likely) you'd get banned for it.

Honestly, I don't think you're stupid, so that's why I said you wouldn't. *Shrug* Feel free to prove me wrong, dear.

Innocents? On this site?

See, the beauty of the Unholy Trinity is that it can still scar even /b/tards. It may have no effect on you, but I'm fairly sure it'd make everyone ELSE on this board hurl.

But meh, I don't feel like hurting myself just to have some fun. Getting banned is unlikely, as the HF pic isn't hardcore, it's just fucking disturbing, but there's no real point in doing it other than to prove I can.

Of course, if someone ELSE besides you tries to be cute and provoke me into doing it, well, it's their fault for making me post it. :snigger:

And thus this thread breaks down into a mini argument between GH and F1, everyone sit back and enjoy the show...oh wai, it is pretty much over now...oh well, it was mildly amusing while it lasted.

Hey, we're married. Are you telling me you never saw a married couple arguing? It's common, you know. :snigger:

True enough, arguments are common enough. I wasn't saying that there was anything wrong with it, I just enjoy watching aruments. Granted, it loses a bit over the web as opposed to in person, but hey, you take what you can get.

Hehe, GH might not post it but I will as I'm still in that rebellious phase and if that person who will remain unneamed thinks they can adopt and collar me they have another thing coming. As for it scarring me, heh, well let's just say my school once left 3rd period to find the Trinity plastered about the school, hehehe.

Agh, so much to catch up on, alright, as the one 'veteran' as you put it who has nto posted his oppinion here yet (though I think by all your definations I'm sasdly a n00b for life as I continue to screw up and make the same old mistakes as ever despite how long I've been around), essentially a newbie is someone who's new enough that they have little to no pull within the forum but is smart enough to realize this and thus does not piss off the powers that be, a n00b is someone that does not realize this and thus pisses off everyone and anyone before establishing themselves. The difference between newbie and veteran is merely that the veterans have enough power and influence to get away with pissing people off, and the newbs don't. At least that's how I figure it considering how GH, F1, DKG, Raa, myself, and a few others continually excercise this unspoken right of ours (not saying that there's not other veterans, these are just the ones that get into the most arguments or occasionally will come down hard on someone, or in other words, throw their weight around the most). See and I'm doing it right now, as this post will probably piss off several people here who will do little to nothing about it. And then GH or someone will get on me about it and I'll brush them off and then life will continue in our happy little world here.

Oh and how does one become a 'veteran'? Well I would say that it can be anything from how prolific you are on the board to the length of time you've been here, to your post count (hey that's how I got here) or just through sheer force of personality. Really it's just being well known and usually somewhat respected within the board (obviously the second is a sometimes thing as lord knows I'm not, well known around here? Yes. Respected? No. But anyway, enough bitching and maoning about power and rank and such, who cares, just post and be normal and after a long enough period (usually the 500 post mark is where the official 'innaguration' happens) you too can become a 'veteran' or whatever you want to call it. Just don't go spamming around like The Botmaster else we'll call the down all the fires of hell on you.

Oh and as for Eva pairings, well you got on after my little Exodus Zen so I'll just leave it that I love Eva, I like Shinji with any female in the show (except that stupid Mary-Sue Mana (and yes I know she was supposed to be a mary-Sue cause that was her mission there , but still.)), and that there's a reason why most of my rant section is devoted to Eva and that I have a small mountain of Eva collectibles, hehehe.

Oh and GH, I've been meaning to ask, what's up with that OGame thing that I noticed had it's own forum now?

OGame is a browser based strategy/gestional galactic conquest game where you start with an undeveloped planet and build it up into a scary space empire. That about sums it up. Think of it as an online, slightly simplified, super addicting Civilization ripoff.

Most of those I suckered... er, persuaded to join me in Universe 14 have become addicted - there's a reason why I call it DRUGame. :snigger:

It does require a good amount of dedicated time, though. Currently I have very little, since I'm looking after my grandma who broke a few ribs by falling, but I normally spend about 5/6 hours a day on it, in intervals, developing, launching attacks and trading.

I love being a space pirate. :snigger:

Steve's first chapter of that was very good, but I was kind of disappointed by the second. The rant he got on kinda took away from the loli action.

As for Eva, Rei/Shinji/Asuka, no exceptions. I agree that Kaji/Misato is kind of bland. I actually would like to see more Kaji/Ritsuko stories, and Misato's reaction to the two getting together.

Raa, if you do a Slayers fic, you will have at least one dedicated reader in me.

As for Negima, any romance I do in my fic has the highest probability of being with Kaede or Yue. Paru, Nodoka, Asuna, Konoka, Setsuna, Eva, Chachamaru, the twins, and Chao are the next in line with probablities being the same for all of them. Good chances that I include all of them together though.

Question: Is it an MMOG? And do you have an address for the site?

How can you "miss the fun" unless they delete their posts? :p

As said above:

"Newbies" can be helped; "n00bs" are terminal.

It's like stupidity and ignorance. Ignorance can be cured; stupidity can't.
