I agree, that was stupid.

So Suigetsu has become a medic-nin/research assistant for Orochimaru. Seriously, is that guy like a clone of the real Suigetsu or something? What the hell happened to the bloodthirsty asshole who loved fighting and wanted to collect all the badass swords?

And Orochimaru is still a free man despite being a mass-murdering, body-stealing, zombie-raising psychopath. He is also putting on an elaborate ninja-play mission to somehow motivate his clone child to instinctively activate snake sage mode, I guess? All while babbling poetic, sappy nonsense about love and choosing light and illuminating the darkness. What bullshit. Also, does Naruto know about him cloning sage kids and erasing their memories and playing cruel mind games with them?

Yeah, that was really stupid.

I can easily see Suigetsu doing menial work for Orochimaru.
And more than least 10 years passed since the end of the manga, who knows what the hell did happen to him.

For Naruto... probably he doesn't know a thing. Orochimaru is actually GOOD a keeping shit hidden.

I guess his Sage Mode looks cool?

The chapter felt bizarre, mostly. I guess that's the problem when trying to build something on such a weak foundation; hard to make something good when it's built on bad ideas like Orochimaru walking free, Suigetsu the lab assistant, Mitsuki himself etc.

His Sage Mode looks A LOT like Tenseigan Chakra Mode.

Anyway, Mitsuki is obviously gay for Bolt. Is Salada going to share or they'll have a rivalry over him?

What bothers me the most is Orochimaru's cryptic, poetic talk about his children becoming "the light" to "illuminate the darkness", calling Boruto "the sun" to complement Mitsuki's "moon", and his apparent desire for this whole charade being to teach (the younger) Mitsuki independence and mastery of Sage Mode. He's almost acting like some kind of mentor figure to a heroic protagonist character.

Where the hell does Orochimaru get the right to act like an Obi-wan? That fucker is one of the nastiest villains around and he was never redeemed, or even seemingly had a change of heart! He's still the same amoral monster, he's only (mostly) behaving now because he knows there's two demi-gods in Konoha who won't hesitate to kill his ass if he starts openly committing atrocities again.

B-But Nova any attempt to punish a person for crimes against humanity is bad!

To be fair, Orochimaru did save the lives of all the five Kage by helping to heal them after Madara had wrecked them and the entire Shinobi Alliance by virtue of being the one who brought back the Hokage. That's kind of a big thing.

Plus, trying to lock up or kill Orochimaru seems like way more trouble than it's worth. Seriously. You kill him. He comes back. You jail him, he most likely breaks out due to the whole badass ninja thing he has going on.

Keeping him under Yamato surveillance (poor guy) seems like the easiest alternative.

Orochimaru doesn't even seem to be under Yamato's surveillance anymore, judging by his non-appearance in this one-shot chapter. I mean, I seriously doubt Naruto would tolerate the way he's mindfucking his clone children. So either Orochimaru isn't being watched, or he is slipping out of his base without Yamato noticing to go on these pretend missions with Mizuki, in which case the surveillance is worthless.

Also, why would Naruto send Yamato to watch Orochimaru anyway? I don't recall him having any super sensory powers aside from tracking people with Mokuton seeds. Wouldn't it make a lot more sense to assign some Hyuuga to keep watch over Konoha's pardoned supervillain? Plus they'd actually be able to see inside the base and observe his activities in addition to keeping track of his movements.

Which is the only reason I'd allow him to continue living if I were Naruto. But I sure as shit wouldn't let him move around freely or continue his insane experiments, and I definitely wouldn't allow him to raise children (cloned artificial humans or otherwise.) Yet from what we've seen of him post end-manga timeskip, he seems to be totally free and allowed to do whatever the shit he wants short of committing mass atrocities.

For fuck's sake, Orochimaru created an artificial human snake sage super ninja and apparently assigned him a secret mission to become the genin teammate of Naruto's own son.

This is one shot takes place before the mini-series, so chronologically Yamato is still watching him.

Also, just because we didn't see a ninja watching Orochimaru doesn't mean the ninja wasn't there. He was just not important enough to show.

I thought Yamato died during the war? Didn't Zetsu use him to increase the numbers of Zetsu or something?

Spiral Zetsu was taking over his body by... being dressed like a living suit. This is Naruto so you know this makes sense in context.
When Kaguya was defeated and the Zetsus dispelled he was freed. We even saw the Spiral Zetsu disintegrating and showing the hair inside.

Maybe Yamata did start watching him BECAUSE Mitsuki.

Yamato is, after all, a real badass(in theory).

But, yeah, as long as he keeps things low-key it's basically impossible to get any wrongdoing.

I want to know Anko's reaction to Mitsuki, though

So Anko was so upset about Oro apparently getting off scot free that she got depressed for some time and ended up putting on weight as a result?

I'm actually expecting Oro taking away her Cursed Seal and without that weight she did relax

Bolt and Salada were 12 during the Scarlet Spring manga. It was very likely but we have the confirmation.

So Mitsuki doesn't have a Sage Mode, he has Juugo's Sage Transformation. Kind of weird that the translators messed that up, it's a pretty huge distinction. Sage Mode is an active learned skill, Sage Transformation is a passive, instinctive genetic ability.

I've the feeling Orochimaru made the first Mitsuki(Snake Container) as future "perfect body" but then made he got attached to him and made a new Mitsuki(who graduated to Snake Moon) explicitly as his own child, who might or might not have been perfected compared to First Mitsuki

I'm guessing with Jiraiya dead and all the apprentices of they Sannin getting married with children, he felt old and did wish for a family.

Orochimaru can't go around abducting entire villages for unethical mass experimentation or starting wars on a whim because of Naruto and Sasuke, and with Kabuto having turned to the light side he's got no intellectual equals around him anymore... I think he's just bored.

It would explain why he's apparently trained Suigetsu to be his medical assistant, he just wants someone to talk to about his field of expertise who will actually understand what he's saying.

"Let's see if I can turn meat-brain Suigetsu into a sufficiently competent lab-assistant! That's totally going to alleviate the boredom for a while"

I also think he keeps correspondence with Kabuto. Which might or might not have been the source of his wanting a child.

Beside being bored, I mean.
