You know... I'm pretty sure Rinkmon's speed is one of those things that are exaggerated. Like Darkdramon's Dark Roar, which there is apparently "nothing in this world that can suffer that attack and survive". Or Mugendramon as the "Digital World's strongest Digimon." I mean, come on, 98% the speed of light is ridiculous, not even most Ultimates would be even able to touch it if that were the case. I might be able to accept it if Rinkmon were higher level or if it was made from the Digimental of Miracles/Fate, but its not...

Other than that, I don't much complaints. The dialogue and fight scenes were pretty enjoyable, though I do wish that you'd update Devil's Advocate...

Hell, he's probably killed a few hundred kids, possibly thousands.

You really don't quite understand how fast 98% the speed of light is.

In the time it takes you to blink once, he could casually take the long way... Around the entire planet, and still get there before you were done blinking.
I understand perfectly how fast the speed of light is.

I never said that it was likely that Guilmon would be able to catch Rinkmon before he made it into the city. I said I wondered if that was what was going to happen. However, I will admit that I doubted that was going to be the case. But, the fact that Guilmon was even able to touch Rinkmon in my opinion means that Guilmon is moving a lot faster then he thinks he is. Evolution is still on the table, and I believe that Guilmon still has the data he got from the Digimental of Friendship card to use. So while it is unlikely that Guilmon will be able to catch Rinkmon in time it is still a slight possibility.

Also if Rinkmon makes it into the city he will run into Terriermon or Renamon unless he avoids battle or and leaves Ruki or Jenrya alone and therefore he's going be slowed down a little bit, (as I'm doubting that story wise Ryuugi is going off two of the main characters without any fight by their partners). Also if Ruki or Jenrya manage to get to their cards if Rinkmon attacks them it's a whole new ballgame, even if speed cards aren't as effective on Renamon and Terriermon as they are on Guilmon both of them probably have more cards then Takato which might be able to make up the difference. Furthermore, even if Rinkmon ignores Ruki and Jenrya, I would bet that Renamon and Terriermon are going to be able to sense a digimon speeding through the city killing people, and I doubt their partners are going to let that slide. However, I'm not going to deny that the speed of light is very very very fast so unless Rinkmon get's slowed down with a fight it is unlikely that Renamon and Terriermon will be able to catch him.

Yes, they're sort of exaggerated, but only in reference to other Digimon.

Examon is so massive he could pick Mugendramon up in his palm and crush him like you would an ant.

Rinkmon is fast, but there are Digimon faster then him, KingChessmon, for example, runs at the full speed of light, and Lucemon Falldown and UlforceV-Dramon are even faster then that, and Mercurymon is even faster still.

Against a decently strong Perfect, or any Ultimate that doesn't suck really badly, Rinkmon's speed doesn't matter, because his weak attacks won't do any damage whatsoever, regardless of how many times he used them.

A thousand times nothing is still nothing, after all.

Hell, if he tried to strike someone like Dukemon he'd probably tear himself in half from the impact of hitting him, or worse, be flung into the air where all the running speed in the world doesn't mean a damn thing.

Lucemon Fall Down Mode is faster then KingChessmon?

But seriously I'm echoing everything NGD said. You made me like something related to Vmon, you utter monster! :p

i like zero and his evolutions and while he is a ugh v-mon my mind doesn't aknowledge that fact.

Takato looked down at his Digivice in confused uncertainty.

Was Rinkmon àrunning?

Why?

HeÆd been winning!

With some smart card usage, Takato had managed to hit himùwell, to let Guilmon hit him, at least.

Once.

But only once and Takato knew that trick wasnÆt going to be working again. He was going to need to try something different each time; that was why heÆd prepared so many cards. And even with all of them, Takato fully expected an uphill battle.

Surely Rinkmon must have known that as well. But if he did, why was he running?

Had he been scared off by that one hit?

But thenà

Why was Guilmon chasing him?

ôItÆs because RinkmonÆs not running.ö A voice said behind him.

Only Takato was alone in his room.

Or he should have been.

Takato whirled around as fast as he could.

And then he blinked in stunned surprise.

There was a knight in his room. A real, actual knight with shining armor and a red cape and everything. He had a red, draconic visor and Takato saw symbols like the one of GuilmonÆs chesk on his armor.

A moment later, Takato blinked again, because being a knight still didnÆt explain why he was in his room.

ôWho areùö He began to ask.

The knight cut him off with a dismissive gesture.

ôA projection from your Digivice.ö He answered calmly. ôOr rather, a virus in your Digivice thatÆs causing a projection. I suppose you could further clarify that IÆm a manifestation of the Hazard. But none of that matters.ö

The Knight was suddenly beside him. Not knowing that heÆd just switched the location of his projection, Takato was surprised by his speed and nearly jumped in surprise.

ôRinkmon is trying to kill you.ö The Knight said without preamble.

Takato simply stared at him for a moment.

What did he just say? He thought.

And then the words hit home.

TakatoÆs eyes widened.

ôM-me?ö

The knight simply nodded.

ôWhaùb-butùô

But if he tries to kill me, IÆll have no choice but to die. He wanted to say.

The Knight extended a hand towards the cards Takato had set aside as useless. He placed a finger on it, but didnÆt move it, for obvious reasons.

Takato reached for it and looked at it.

ôThis isà?ö He frowned in confusion.

ôIf you slash that card, youÆll beàsafe.ö

Takato noticed the pause and had to ask.

ôReally? IÆll be safe?ö He asked with a raised eyebrow.

What followed was a short empty silence.

It dragged forth words from the knight.

ôNo, I suppose not.ö The Knight closed his eyes then, almost sadly. ôThe moment you became my Tamer, I took away any hope of safety you might have had.ö

Became his Tamer? Takato wanted to ask. But he wasnÆt his Tamer. He was GuilmonÆs.

Then the KnightÆs eyes opened and they were hard and resolved.

ôBut if you slash that card, I can at least ensure that you survive today.ö

But Takato was already thinking of something else.

ôHow does Rinkmon even know where I am?ö He asked.

The knight lapsed into silence again and bowed his head so that Takato could not see his eyes.

ôTell me.ö Takato insisted, feeling this was important.

ôàHe doesnÆt.ö The Knight said, but it was obvious he didnÆt want to.

Takato blinked at that answer.

ôThen howà?ö

ôHeÆs going to kill people until he finds you.ö The Knight replied. ôHe knows youÆre probably a child and thatÆs enough for him to act on. This cityÆs children will die. Every single one of them.ö

ôDie?ö Takato said, horrified and hardly able to believe this. ôB-because of me?ö

ôNo!ö The Knight instantly denied. ôNot because of you! ItÆs because of Rinkmon! HeÆs a monster and he always has been! He tormented the people of the West so much that we had to send a Royal Knight to deal with him!ö

An armored hand became and armored fist and then suddenly relaxed, as if all the life went out of it.

ôAndàitÆs because of us, too.ö He admitted. ôIf we had killed Rinkmonàif we hadnÆt let the Twelveàif we just hadnÆt come here, then youànone of you would be dying right now!ö

He looked at Takato and there was shame and pain in his eyes.

ôTakato, I canÆt stop Rinkmon. Not before he kills a lot of people. Butàplease slash that card, so that I can at least save you.ö He pleaded.

Takato looked down at the card and then back up at the knight.

ôIf I slashed this card,ö Takato asked. ôAll those people would die.ö

The knight couldnÆt deny that.

ôAndàwhat about Guilmon? Would he be safe, too?ö He wondered.

His hand clenched around his Digivice.

ôNo, even if he was safe, it wouldnÆt be okay. I canÆt just let those people die andàI donÆt think Guilmon could either. Soàeven if we left, we wouldnÆt be okay. Doing something like thatàI thinkàfor usàthatÆs worse than just dying.ö

He looked at the knight with eyes that were too serious for a child. And behind those eyes was a mind making choices children shouldnÆt have to make.

ôSoàI canÆt run.ö Takato said. ôWe canÆt run. I know IÆm just a kid, butàto protect all the innocent people in this cityàI wonÆt run, even if it costs me my life.ö

The knight met his gaze for a long moment and then closed his eyes. He nodded slightly.

ôAs expected from our Tamer.ö He said. ôYou are kind and brave to the point of stupidity.ö

Takato got the feeling he was smiling under that helmet.

ôBut IÆmàglad.ö The knight continued. ôItÆs weird, but IÆm glad. That you didnÆt run. IÆm upset and angry and terrified, butàIÆm really happy that you would do this to protect innocent people, even if you know youÆll die. Goodbye, Takato.ö

He was about to disappear when Takato shook his head.

ôNo.ö Takato said.

The Knight blinked slowly.

ôNo?ö He asked, not understanding.

ôIÆmànot going to die.ö Takato said. ôHe is. IÆm not going to let him continue this anymore. IÆm going to stop him. WeÆre going to stop him.ö

ôàHow?ö

ôYouàö Takato ignored the question in favor of asking his own. ôWhy did you come here? Why did you ask me to run and even show me the way out?ö

The knight was silent for a moment, as if not understanding the question.

ôBecauseàloyalty to oneÆs lord is expected of a knight, isnÆt it?ö The Knight said, sounding confused.

ôThenàwill you help me again?ö Takato asked. ôI wonÆt run, but will you help me fight instead?ö

ôàWhat do you need of me?ö

Takato told him.

ôThatÆs insane, suicidal, reckless, and, quite frankly, kind of stupid.ö The Knight replied immediately.

Takato nodded.

ôBut do you think itÆll work?ö He asked.

ôàAre you sure about this, Takato?ö

ôIÆm sure. At leastàsure enough to put my life on the line. Justàhave faith in me for a little while.ö

ôàIÆllàneed some time to pull it off.ö

ôIÆll buy you as long as I can.ö

I'm wondering if Guilmon and Takato are going to be able to stop Rinkmon before he gets to the city or not.
No.

If he does get to the city things could get really interesting as Jenrya and Ruki are there and have their partners with them.
Eh...not really. In a battle of speed, neither Renamon nor Terriermon could keep up. Guilmon is currently on pretty much every speed related card Takato has, plus the latent power of UlforceV-dramon, and he's not keeping up well, either.

And even that not-complete-failure to keep up is only because Guilmon hid his power for long enough to get Rinkmon away from innocent people, which bought Takato time to run home and get all of his cards; he didn't have those with him to begin with.

Also, since he wasn't actually present, Rinkmon wasn't able to just kill him.

If Rinkmon fell out of the sky in front of either of them, it would end badly. They aren't on a speed=super power kick like Takato, so it's not their main strategy, they probably aren't carrying around all their cards, they probably don't have the cards they'd need with them.

But even if they did have all the cards they'd need, Rinkmon would probably just kill them, like he's trying to do with Takato.

(And even if they didn't die, it's UlforceV-dramon's latent power that's doing most of the work here.)

An early tamer team up maybe?
Not quite. In fact, if anything, it's a late Tamer team-up, because this story is going somewhere no one's guessed, yet.

Also Hypnos would have to get their shit in gear if a digimon kills a ton of children on their watch. Does want.
Yeah, Hypnos is changed a lot by this event.

Rinkmon is already in the city.

Hell, he's probably killed a few hundred kids, possibly thousands.
Nah; he's only just finished killing everyone on one of the streets in Tokyo. The next snippet begins ith him chatting with Guilmon atop their corpses.

hey Ryuugi this story is awesome, as are most of your digimon fics, do you mind if i ask if your going to continue Where Angels Fear To Tread?
Probably at somepoint; it's the story I have the most notes for. But first, I want to finish this, the first chapter of Unlocked Doors, and Chapter Ten of DA. Then I'll see what happens next.

It depends on how you look at the profiles vs. the anime. See, anime's have a hard time showing stuff really accurately (their anime). So when you see stuff like a lightning bolt in the anime and i doesn't, well, cut through the sky in a flash like a lightning bolt and instead people dodge it and stuff, there are several ways to take it.

A. It's not a lightning bolt. It's some lightning bolt like attack.

B. It is a lightning bolt. When someone dodges it, it means they can dodge lightning; the anime just slowed things down so you can see it.

So for example, Rapidmon is said to move at the speed of light but Beelzebumon speedblitzed him before the Megidramon fight. Either Rapidmon isn't Lightspeed or Beelzebumon is hella fast. But then, Dukemon kept up with him, so...

ANother example is Dynasmon and Beowulfmon, that latter of which is said to move at twice the speed of light and the former of which smacked him around

In the end, it's one of those things that involves power leveling. For those who don't know, power leveling happens when you take two characters that fight and then apply what you know about one's power to the other. Say, for example, Ebemon fought someone and hit him with that planet destroying attack, but he survives it. Power Leveling says he thus must be able to tank planet busting attacks.

So, it's kind of up to the writer whether they move only as fast as shown in the anime or if it's like DBZ and Naruto and...a million other shows where you know they're moving at amazing speeds but it's slowed down.

Which do I thinks right? The anime or the profiles?

Which ever I think I'll have more fun with at the time.

But, the fact that Guilmon was even able to touch Rinkmon in my opinion means that Guilmon is moving a lot faster then he thinks he is.
Nah, he's moving somewhere between one thousandth and one hundredth of Rinkmon's speed; closer to one thousandth, really. Nine hundredths or maybe eight.

He managed to hit Rinkmon for two reasons.

It was a surprise attack.

Rinkmon's feet literaly sank into the ground.

Evolution is still on the table, and I believe that Guilmon still has the data he got from the Digimental of Friendship card to use.
Very true.

It probably deserves to be mentioned that to only consistant Main Characters in Open Windows and Unlocked Doors are Takato and his Partner. Who else is important varies from story to story. For example, in the UD chapter 'Nothing But A Hound Dog' the main characters are Takato, Jenrya, Labramon, and Terriermon (you'll see the profile fo that idea soon, by the way). Meanwhile, Jenrya and Ruki might not even show up in The End.

Takato has Main Character rights; he won't die (or he stay dead, anyway) and he gets to be important and awesome. Who else has these rights changes from story to story. I mean, literally everyone is dead by the Epilouge of The End. Literally everyone. Everywhere. In the Universe.

Though granted, it's not like it sounds.

Also if Ruki or Jenrya manage to get to their cards if Rinkmon attacks them it's a whole new ballgame, even if speed cards aren't as effective on Renamon and Terriermon as they are on Guilmon both of them probably have more cards then Takato which might be able to make up the difference.
Not really. Ruki probably has more cards than Takato, yeah, but she carries one deck. Takato is at home with all of his cards. More importantly, he had time to prepare before the battle and (even more importantly) was luck enough to be absent when the fight began.

If Jenrya and Ruki are there during the battle, Rinkmon will kill them. He's an asshole, but he's a pragmatic asshole.

They'll notice.

But give the speed of what's going down, things will be over by the time they show up.

Anyway, the chapter profile of Nothing But A Hound Dog will be up soon.

Okay, as promised, here's the first Plotline profile (note, however, that ideas are prone to change; this is just what I have at the moment):

Unlocked Doors: Nothing But A Hound Dog

Two Part fic, divided between Then and Now.

After Digimon become more and more prominent, Digimon related crimes also increased. The æDigimon TamersÆ operate as a Digital Police Force.

Then:

Takato first meets his partner as a part of the Artificial Digimon Experiment. Paomon was created and he was chosen as the partner (well, he was amongst the group of people chosen, but was the only one successful). It wasnÆt expected that he and Paomon would go anywhere. It was thought that he would evolve once (and he did, into Shaomon), but no further.

Then he evolved into Labramon, and it was again thought he could go no further.

Takato brute-forced an evolution with sheer force of will, evolving him into Shiisamon. At that point, Takato was allowed to be employed as a Tamer and was partnered with fellow Dog Type Tamer Lee Jenrya. The two (both meeting the qualification of having an Adult Level capable partner) werenÆt expected to go very far, but quickly became famous. Their partnerÆs proved the usefulness of Dog Type Digimon (and earned the designation as æA TamerÆs best friendÆ making Dog Types highly valued, especially since theyÆre so rare) by solving case after case.

Due to their work on a high-level incident, which they singlehandedly stopped, the duo (and later, the Tamer organization as a whole) went international. While (at the time) other Tamers were restricted to their country of origin except in cases of emergency (as Defined by the TamerÆs Agreement), Takato and Jenrya were allowed to work in any of the countries that signed the TamerÆs Agreement (which established Tamer Organizations as separate but connected entities).

They become superstars (eventually, there are even books about them, and comics, TV shows, and other merchandise). Everything goes well for them and theyÆre the Tamer OrganizationÆs Golden Children in both truth and name.

Until the Alice McCoy Incident.

Alice McCoy, an ordinary girl with no partner, is captured by evil Digimon and taken to the Dark Area. Attempts to rescue her end in failure (and thus Death) until the Hound Dogs are called in. Takato and Jenrya boldly venture into the Dark Area, save the girl, and came out no worse for the wear, even when dozens of other (sometimes in teams of actual dozens) failed.

Or so it seemed to the World.

Before, they were superstars. After that, they were Superheroes.

But there was a lot the world didnÆt know.

For example, they didnÆt know how bad the Dark Area really was. They didnÆt know what the Dark Area did to Alice McCoy. And they sure as hell didnÆt know what it did to Takato and Jenrya.

After the Alice McCoy incident, Labramon was unable to evolve into Shiisamon anymore, instead becoming Dobermon. Galgomon was similarly gone, replaced by BlackGalgomon. The horrors and cruelties of the Dark Area had planted a seed called Hatred in Takato and Jenrya.

(Or maybe they can evolve into both; one by day and one at night?)

By dayùin publicùthey were still the good, kindhearted people theyÆd always been. But whereas before, theyÆd been content to wait to take down Criminals, now they were all but consumed by a desire to act. Before theyÆd seen the world through rose-colored glasses, but the Dark Area and what had been done to Alice stole them away. TheyÆd now become aware of how bad things could be. And how bad things already were.

They hunted down criminals with a passion.

Some, they couldnÆt reach due to the law.

They went after them anyway.

By Daylight, they were the Hound Dogs, who hunted down any criminal and put them away without fail.

By Moonlight, they were the Hellhounds (though only they knew that name), and they hunted anyone they couldnÆt hunt by daylight.

(ItÆs important to remember that both Dobermon and BlackGalgomon are Vaccine Types; they were darkened by what they saw, but not corrupted.)

Dobermon eventually becomes Cerberumon and BlackGalgomon eventually become BlackRapidmon. It does nothing but increase their ability to fight crime.

And then the Dark Area tries again.

All around the World, the Dark Area invades. Takato and Jenrya are forced to hop around the World (using gates as a form of locomotion). They donÆt have enough time to deal with each area completely, but they showed up, killed the strongest Digimon around, and bailed, letting the other TamerÆs do the rest.

This plan works well for quite awhile, until they run into an Ultimate Level Digimon named Beelzebumon. Beelzebumon kills the partner of Katou Juri and then beat the crap out of the two of them. Before he can kill them, however, Takato and Jenrya Biomerge into Anubismon and BlackSaintGalgomon and walk up and down his ass, until Juri asks them to spare his life.

They do. Then they make sure sheÆs okay and continue on.

With the Power of Ultimate level on their side, they kick ass and take names, sometimes demolishing entire invasions by themselves without needing to leave anyone behind. They save the world that day and then, with help from JenryaÆs father and other programmers, figure out how to shut the gate to the Dark Area.

Having gone from Zeroes to Heroes to Superheroes to Saviors, Takato and Jenrya retire.

Yeah, but DG asked me about my Ideas in this thread.
I thank you very much Ryuugi. You didn't have to do this and I am very thankful and honored that you would.

I cannot wait to see what this idea can turn in to.

So please take your time. Because barring a few exceptions I don't think there is a thing that you write that I would not read. Just wanted to let you know that.

Please. Keep it coming.

He chased Rinkmon, of course. Through unfamiliar streets, across rooftops, around the city he chased him.

He didnÆt catch him, though.

And Rinkmon left corpses in his wake. Some he cut cleanly. Others were left in visible spots; presents for Guilmon to see.

He looked at each in turn, unwilling to look away from his failure. But then he had to continue the chase.

ThatÆs what he told himself.

He didnÆt want to believe he was running away.

When Guilmon caught up to Rinkmon, it was atop a field of corpses.

ôKilling Humans is pretty different from killing Digimon.ö Rinkmon said, his back to the stunned and horrified Guilmon.

HeÆd obviously been waiting here for him, or else he wouldnÆt have been able to catch up.

Which meant this had all been set up just for him.

ôRinkmon, youàö Guilmon whispered, wide eyes taking in the scene.

Rinkmon turned around and smiled.

ôTheyÆre a lot easier to kill than Digimon, donÆt you think?ö He asked, and Guilmon could that there was no remorse in him. If anything, he sounded bored.

But he hadnÆt expected any.

Rinkmon had never shown remorse.

But his words planted something within Guilmon; something dark and terrible and wicked.

Wrath.

He would kill Rinkmon, if he could, and heÆd enjoy every second of it.

ôRinkmon, youàö GuilmonÆs pupils narrowed abruptly. ôYou bastard!ö

Rinkmon clicked his tongue.

ôAre you sure you should be insulting me?ö He questioned. ôI mean, I could always justàrun off again.ö

Guilmon fell silent at that and simply seethed for a minute before speaking.

ôWhat do you want?ö

Rinkmon smiled at him.

ôAt the moment? Amusement. Kill all these humans would grow dull quickly, IÆm sure; itÆll be a long and tedious minute, no doubt. I mean, IÆve already gotten tired of killing just children, as you can see.ö

Rinkmon gestured around and Guilmon suppressed a grown. Of course heÆd noticed; there were more than just children here. There were adults now, too.

But he didnÆt believe for a moment that it was just because of boredom.

Rinkmon was making a point; setting the stage for whatever he was about to do next.

ôI could butcher everyone in this city.ö Rinkmon mused, and Guilmon trembled because it was true. ôZhuqaiomon-sama wouldnÆt care if some humans died. ButàthereÆs another way, isnÆt there?ö

Guilmon didnÆt know what he was talking about.

No; that was incorrect.

Guilmon refused to acknowledge the choice Rinkmon spoke of.

ôWhat are you talking about?ö He asked.

ôI donÆt mind killing all these Humans.ö Rinkmon replied. ôBut thereÆs only one that IÆm after.

DonÆt say it, Guilmon wanted to scream.

ôTell me where your Tamer is and IÆll spare this city.ö Rinkmon said. ôOtherwise, this massacre will continue.ö

XxXXxX

Takato slashed two cards.

ôSuper Slow Speed Worm, Activate. Slowest Speed Worm, Activate.ö He said.

Guilmon, I need you buy me a little more time, he thought.

And:

IÆm sorry.

XxXXxX

Time slowed again.

It wasnÆt enough; the world around him had become so slow, and even so, it wasnÆt enough. Time had slowed to a crawl all around him but it wasnÆt enough!

He wouldnÆt be able to stop Rinkmon like this; he was but a hundredth of RinkmonÆs speed.

TakatoÆs cards accomplished only one thing; they hurt Guilmon.

Not physically; or, perhaps, not just physically. He could barely feel the pain of his body anymore, so what were a few more drops of agony?

They were nothing compared to the pain that struck Guilmon to the core at those cards.

Maybe, Guilmon thought as he felt those cards. Maybe even now, Takato still believes in Guilmon.

And that thought burnt like fire.

Did Takato know Guilmon had failed to protect all these people?

Did Takato know that right now, he was walking in the blood of innocent men, women, and children, who heÆd failed to save?

Did Takato know Guilmon couldnÆt stop Rinkmon?

Did Takato know that it was he whoÆd brought this death and destruction upon this place?

Those questions raced through his mind and each caused him pain, but there was one more question that made Guilmon want to crawl away and die.

Did Takato know that Guilmon was thinkingùhonestly thinkingùabout trading his life away?

No, he probably didnÆt.

Anger and self-loathing war within Guilmon.

ôRinkmon,ö Guilmon snarled. ôWhy are you even asking me this?ö

ôDidnÆt I already tell you?ö Rinkmon wondered to himself. ôAmusement. Watching you struggle with the choice between betraying your friend and the lives of thousands of innocent people is really fun.ö

Realization struck. Not due to his words, but simply because, in that moment, Guilmon remembered, truly remembered, who he was dealing with.

ôYouàwould actually let them go.ö Guilmon said, sounding stunned.

An ordinary person wouldnÆt have noticed, but Guilmon was a former Royal Knight.

He could tell when someone was lying to him.

It was a necessary ability, because a lot of people lied to him.

And he could tell that Rinkmon was honest. And he even knew why, because he also knew Rinkmon.

The lives of these humansàthey meant nothing to him. To Rinkmon, people didnÆt matter if they were weak. He terrorized the Villages of the West, avoiding anyone he couldnÆt beat, but those weaker than himà

Sometimes he killed them.

Sometimes he didnÆt.

He decided life and death on a whim.

It was the same here; he couldnÆt care less whether the humans lived or died. If he had to kill them, that was fine. If he didnÆt, that was fine too. As heÆd said before, heÆd probably get bored with killing them eventually.

And that made the choice even worse.

If heÆd been talking to Demon and been offered this choice, he could dismiss it easily with the knowledge that Demon wouldnÆt really let them go.

But Rinkmon would.

Rinkmon really would spare a thousand lives in return for just one; not because he was kind, but simply because he didnÆt care. To save himself a minute of work, heÆd spare a thousand lives; that was how trivial they were to him.

Rinkmon just looked back at him.

And for a moment, it was like GuilmonÆs world halted.

In that moment, he honestly was sure what to do.

In all his lives, heÆd always run forward, looking ahead and never hesitating.

But now, he didnÆt want to. He didnÆt want to move forward; he didnÆt want to make this choice.

And, as if sensing his partnerÆs indecision, Takato made the choice for him.

I dare say that with the amount of bodies on the ground, there have been quite a few bad ends already.

But yeah, as a Villian, Rinkmon's life is not gonna end well.

Anyway, the next snippet will be kinda on the short side, but it's about Takato getting his chance to shine. Literally.

ôàItÆs done.ö Said the Holographic Knight.

Takato didnÆt say anything. His eyes were glued to his Digivice and the scene of horror upon it.

All those innocent peopleà

His fingers tightened around his Digivice.

Unforgivableà

The Knight didnÆt bother looking at the Digivice; he was already inside it.

He knew exactly what was on it and the sight made his blood boil with rage.

He hated Rinkmon; he despised him and wished for him to die. No! He wanted him to suffer!

It was a good thing he was nothing but a hologram; a pale imitation created by the real thing somewhere deep within the mind of Guilmon.

If heÆd been realà

The delicate balance that separated the Knight and the Dragon might have been broken in that instant.

But through the anger, he felt something else.

Fear.

Knowing what RInkmon could doùwhat he had doneùmade him afraid; not for himself, but for the boy he stood beside.

Ten years oldà

So youngà

Why was it that a child had to risk his life?

He spoke because of that feeling.

ôLast chance to back down.ö

There was only one answer.

It came as surely as the dawn.

ôDo it.ö Takato said.

All of Tokyo came to a halt when a pillar of light connected Heaven and Earth.

It was huge; a hundred meters across at least and it pierced the sky like a spear.

It was bright; for a minute, Tokyo was illuminated as if by the sun.

And it was blue; the bluest blue you ever would see.

XxXXxX

ôW-what?ö Rinkmon wondered, having been forced to avert his eyes. ôWhat the hell is that!?ö

Guilmon just stared. He looked into the light and didnÆt blinkùcouldnÆt blinkùeven as they began to hurt.

He knew what it was; knew with every fiber of his being. He knew in a way that was beyond all doubts and needs for explination.

And it amazed him and awed him and terrified him in a way only Rinkmon had equaled.

TakatoàOh, Takatoà

He knew what it was.

That was TakatoÆs Light.

XxXXxX

And atop the roof of a house across the city, in the Ward of Shinjuku, Takato stood. He held his Digivice in the air and was bathed in its life. It felt like his eyes were burning, even though they were closed. At the center of the light, he felt like he would go blind.

But he had to do this.

He had something to say and this was the only way he knew to say it.

He wouldnÆtùcouldnÆtùrun away. HeÆd drawn a line inside himself and he had only one direction he could move and it was against the coming tide.

Rinkmon was killing innocent people. He was slaughtering them for no reason other than the fact that, by existing, they have a slight chance of being GuilmonÆs partner. Rinkmon didnÆt know who he was or where he was, but he would continue killing until he found out.

Takato couldnÆt let that happen.

But he had only one way to stop it.

Rinkmon was searching for him.

Well, he was right here.

High above the Buildings of Tokyo, the Pillar began to unfold. Wings spread out from it; blue draconic wings. Their wingspan was enormousùhundreds of meters from tip to tipùbut not what drew the most attention to them.

There were words on those wings. Words carving into the blue light as if it were solid; darker patches blemishing its radiance.

It was a challenge directed at one Digimon and it said:

æCome Get Some.Æ

No, but Hologram Dukemon does and he was the one screwing around with the Digivice. Takato just asked that he draw Rinkmon to him; he didn't care how.

Dukemon did it the way he did for the simple reason that it would leave little doubt as to who was calling Rinkmon out.

Since when is a hologram of Dukemon hiding out in the digivice? How did that happen?
