In the moments following that display, which had stunned Tokyo for nearly a minute and was only now beginning to fade away, Guilmon thought, but did not say:

Damn it, Takato.

He risked a glance at Rinkmon who wasnÆt even looking at him.

HeÆs attention was completely captured by the fading light.

Seconds ticked by and to Guilmon they felt like hours; though the time dilation might have had something to do with that.

And then Rinkmon spoke.

ôYour Tamer is pretty ballsy, huh?ö He said.

Shit.

He knows.

Guilmon nearly smacked himself at that thought.

Well of course he knows. Takato had somehow managed to create a huge pillar of light announcing his presence. From which giant blue dragon wings extended, upon which had been written a challenging message.

You would literally have to be blind to miss it.

WhatÆs more, Rinkmon knew enough about UlforceV-dramon to recognize those wings for what they were, too.

What happens now? Guilmon wondered.

From a certain point of view, things were better now. Takato had decided to give his life to protect the people of this city and no more of them needed to get hurt. It was a heroic act of self-sacrifice.

Takato would die, Guilmon would follow him shortly into the grave, and no more innocent people would need to get hurt.

It should have been fine that way.

But things were different now.

Takato had been willing to give his life of his own free will where Guilmon had, in a moment of weakness, been weighing the possibility of trading itùtrading it, even though it was not his.

That lightùTakatoÆs Lightùhad blown away more than the darkness with its arrival.

GuilmonÆs doubts and hesitations had been erased as well. And it was like something that had been covering his eyes had been removed.

HeÆd been afraid of moving forward, he realized.

For the first time in his existence, heÆd been honestly afraid of moving forward. HeÆd been afraid of making hard choices.

HeÆd heard that he had only two options and heÆd halted in his tracks. HeÆd heard that it was Takato or the city and that choice had frozen him in place.

What the hell had he been thinking?

He was a Knight. A Royal Knight. It was his job to protect the innocent and the weak.

What right did he have to even consider trading their lives?

Doubt and hesitation had been replaced by shame and disgust.

Takato, IÆm sorry. IÆm so sorry. I nearlyàyouàoh, God, IÆm pathetic. But I wonÆt make any excuses; not when I can still make up for my mistakes.

HeÆd been so horrified by the two options that he had been presented that heÆd failed to even try looking for another one.

ôYeah,ö He said, finally replying to RinkmonÆs question. There was no longer any point in trying to hide Takato, for he would not hide away. The pride in his voice was just as impossible to hide. ôHe is.ö

HeÆd failed to look for any other options.

But now, he could see it. Illuminated by TakatoÆs Light, he could see another way.

And there was one.

ôYou realize IÆm going to go kill him now, right?ö Rinkmon asked. ôAnd then IÆm going to kill you.ö

There was one other option, but fear and indecision had blinded him. HeÆd known it was an option, but heÆd never had the faith to actually think æthis is possible.Æ Not just as a passing thought or an impossible dream but as æsomething I can do.Æ

ôNotàö Guilmon began, eyes and resolve hardening.

But it was there.

It had always been there.

ôàIf I kill you first!ö

Rinkmon was long gone, but he was already in pursuit.

His body glowed and something shifted and moved within him.

Something was happening to him and he didnÆt know what.

But it didnÆt matter.

This was a fight he couldnÆt allow himself to lose.

Nothing else mattered.

He had something to do; something he had to show Takato.

The thing he would createà!

TakatoàIÆm sorryàfor bringing Rinkmon hereàfor being weakàfor almost betraying youàI am so, so sorry. Butàpleaseàwatch me! Stand back and watch me! Support me for just a little while longer, Takato! IÆll show it to you! You and I arenÆt going to die tonight, Takato! Soàlet me show you the future!

What, is Takato going to evolve now? Oh god, you're making him a power ranger aren't you! :snigger:

Sooo, after this battle will Hypnos and Takato form a working relationship like in Tamers Unlimited? It'd be interesting if Hypnos starts to build what amonunts to an armory for Takato and Guilmon via creating one of a kind super cards/programs for them to use. I've never played the card games so I don't know what's already out there, but I'm sure they can come up with a series of cards made to kick digital ass without worring about 'fairness' or game balance.

No; he's just gonna be ballsy.

Sooo, after this battle will Hypnos and Takato form a working relationship like in Tamers Unlimited?
No. Not yet, at least. I mean, a lot of people just died. In, like, seconds. In the middle of the night. It'll take awhile for anyone to notice the scale of the event. Then, it'll take awhile for people to figure out a Digimon did it. There will be public panic and all that funny stuff. Yamaki will have to call his supervisors, experts would need to be gathered, plans would need to be made and discarded, and it'll take awhile for anyone to realize the flaws in the current attempts to combat the Digimon and the usefulness of the Digimon Tamers.

And Takato will *BLANK* long before any of that even begins to happen.

Wouldn't work. I think I said so already, but the cards have their limits (energy cannot be created or destroyed). Guilmon is able to bypass these limits somewhat when it comes to Speed cards, thanks to the latent Ulforce and UlforceV-dramon, but even he is in enormous pain; it's just not killing him instantly, like it would anyone else.

Broken effects simply wouldn't work. +100 speed would kill pretty much any Digimon who wasn't already bullshit fast, for example, and stuff like 'You Win' wouldn't work. Or it would kill who ever tried it. Maybe both.

As such, any effects used are limited to the power of the user; Takato could slash an Omegamon card, and it'd work, but it would be limited by the power Guilmon could use, and so would be nothing compared to the real thing...unless he used it at a higher level.

Any way, that won't matter, because Takato is going to *BLANK*.

Curse you and the devil who invented cliffhangers! *Shakes fist* This is too damn awesome.

Just thought of something. Since Rinkmon is so weak and makes up for it with speed, wouldnt he have to slow down running to kill the people? He couldnt just slice their throats, he would either have to stop to increase his mass data, chop, then continue, or slash their throats a thousand times pealing layer by layer of skin. It would be fast, and extremely efficient, but still, killing hundreds should make Guilmon catch up quicker right?

EDIT and I bet on blank being biomerge, or at least digivolve to ultimate.

Humans are far and away squishier than Digimon.

Blank is entirely too easy to replace with die. D:
You'll be happy to know that specific Blank does not refer to Takato's death.

Rinkmon's really weak by Digimon standards, to the point that Gulmon barely feels his blows.

But Guilmon barely felt Renamon's attack, too, and that blew up cars.

It does, in fact, take Rinkmon effort to kill even normals humans, but not that much effort.

It did slow him down a bit, though, yeah; just not enough for Guilmon to catch up.

EDIT and I bet on blank being biomerge, or at least digivolve to ultimate.
Nope.

Avider: Wow, I didn't even know you read this. Thanks for the catch; fixed.

Takato was standing in his room when Rinkmon arrived.

Rinkmon wasnÆt one for wasting timeùunless he thought it would be amusingùso he just slit the boyÆs throat with his right blade without a second thought or a momentÆs hesitation.

Or tried to, anyway.

It passed through the boys flesh as if through mere air and didnÆt leave a single wound.

RinkmonÆs eyes narrowed beneath his mask.

ôAn illusion?ö He wondered, though not to anyone specific. He tried again, just to be sure; delivering a backhand that wouldùand already had several times todayùsnap a humanÆs neck. It too passed straight through.

ôClose, but not quite.ö

Rinkmon whirled around so fast that he seemed to change the direction he was looking in without covering any of the space in between.

Another Takato was leaning against the wall.

One of the blades on RinkmonÆs arms rake across the wall behind him after sliding through his throat.

Rinkmon frowned down at the boy he was now looming over.

ôNot an illusion, hm? Then what are you, I wonder?ö

A third Takato now stood behind Rinkmon. He held his arms out to each side.

ôIÆm a hologram.ö Heùitùsaid.

The third disappeared and reappearedùor perhaps it was a fourthùin the center of the room, arms still outstretched.

He smiled at Rinkmon.

ôItÆs cool, isnÆt it?ö He asked. ôMy Digivice did it. The light show, too. That knight guy had a field day inside that thing, I swear.ö

Rinkmon didnÆt understand that last sentence, but it really wasnÆt important.

He wanted to kill this boy.

This boy had a way of hiding himself.

That was all he needed to know.

He thought about the situation for a moment.

If it was a hologram, it had to be coming from somewhere. As such, the boy was probably nearby.

ôWhere are you?ö He murmured scanning the room.

ôIÆm right here.ö A dozen voices replied.

He was now surrounded by false copies of the boy, all looking very casual. One was sprawled out on the bed, reading a fake book. Another sat by him, but upright, feet dangling off. A third sat with a back to the wall, looking at RInkmon calmly. A fourth wasnÆt paying attention to him at all; instead, he was looking out the window. The rest were scattered around the room.

ôLetÆs play a game, Rinkmon.ö Takato said in a dozen voices. ôItÆs called Hide-and-Seek. YouÆre it. Find me before Guilmon gets here, which will beàquite soon, I imagine, and you can take my life. But if you lose, Guilmon will get here and it will be the end of you.ö

Rinkmon snorted.

ôYou think IÆm afraid ofàGuilmon?ö His chuckle became a laugh.

ôYeah.ö They said. ôOr else, you wouldnÆt be here. You tried fighting Guilmon but he kept getting fast and fast and so you went running scared. YouÆre afraid, because youÆve realized it; you canÆt beat Guilmon. So you went to find people weaker then you, so that you could pick on them. YouÆre afraid, coward. YouÆre afraid of Guilmon and youÆre even afraid of a human like me.ö

Rinkmon flushed.

ôYour little pet is nothing to me. If he arrives, that just means youÆll die together.ö

ôWell, if thatÆs true, run, run, run, as fast as you can. Maybe youÆll even find me in time.ö

A new Takato flickered into existence right in front of Rinkmon and gazed into his eyes with a challenging smirk.

ôGo.ö

Rinkmon tore through the entire house in a secondùin more ways than one. His blades raked the walls, he upturned tables and chairs, and he tore open closets and tossed out their contents.

But he didnÆt find the boy. Not even holograms of him.

They were only in that one room.

Meaningà

He returned to the room mere moments after heÆd left. It had been torn apart, too, of course, but to holograms hadnÆt moved an inch. The two that had been on the bed were now floating in midair; the one by the window peered through its shattered remains.

They took notice of him almost immediately.

ôBack again, Rinkmon?ö They asked.

ôIt appears IÆve lost.ö He said, amusedly. HeÆd gone along with the game for no other reason than because it had sounded amusing.

HeÆd won this battle the moment he walked through the door. He could create a storm, now, and it wouldnÆt matter what holograms this human was hiding behind.

It didnÆt matter how powerful æGuilmonÆ was or could become; his Tamer would die at his whim, now.

But before that, he had something to tell this impudent little boy.

ôAs per your rules, I suppose this is the end of the handsome Rinkmon!ö He continued, overdramatically.

He paused for a moment in silence and then chuckled.

ôAh, but where is my would-be executioner?ö He asked, mirthfully.

The Takatos frowned at him.

ôDo you know what we were talking about before your little display?ö Rinkmon asked. ôI made your partner an offer; your life for your cityÆs. And you know what? He was considering it. You interrupted us before he could answer, butàwhat would he have chosen I wonder?ö

There was mockery and scorn in RinkmonÆs voice and his words were full of venom; his eyes were like daggers and his smirk full of nothing but teeth.

But they didnÆt impress Takato. They tilted their heads, some still not looking at him, and then they chuckled and spoke in unison.

ôThatÆs fine.ö They said, freezing Rinkmon in his tracks.

ôW-what!?ö He demanded, recovering quickly but unable to stop a stutter.

ôI said thatÆs fine.ö They repeated. ôGuilmon had a choice between me and thousands of innocent people and he wasnÆt sure what to do. He couldnÆt just throw away that many lives, but he couldnÆt just throw away mine, either.ö

The Takatos all looked at him, then.

ôDo you think thatÆs a betrayal, Rinkmon?ö They wondered, smiling like they knew something he didnÆt. ôThat GuilmonÆs heart was too kind to make such a decision lightly? I wonderàRinkmon, if you had a choiceàbetween your life and every person in this city, what would you chose?ö

ôMine.ö He answered, without hesitation.

They continued to smile at him, but now they were full of contempt.

ôI know you would, Rinkmon. But Guilmon wouldnÆt. Even though he doesnÆt know the people of this city, heÆd still give his life to protect them. And itÆs not even because of me; if he and I had never become partners, I truly feel that Guilmon would still make that choice. BecauseàheÆs Guilmon. And heÆs better then trash like you. IÆm glad you told me that, Rinkmon; I have no doubts any more.ö

Rinkmon chuckled.

ôFor someone whose better, heÆs not here to save your life, is he?ö

ôHeÆll be here.ö They said with complete certainty. ôHeÆll show up just in time to save the day, like a hero should.ö

ôOh, really?ö Rinkmon asked with fake curiosity. ôLetÆs test that theory, shall we? Quadruple Storm!ö

The four tornados converged on Rinkmon, but it didnÆt matter; the entire room was affected. The torn remains of the room were picked up and flung around, the broken remains of the windows broke even further, the walls were smacked roughly with debris, and the ceilingà

Flickered.

A moment later, Takato lost his grip on the top of the shelf and was promptly smashed into the ground.

It hurt. A lot.

In fact, Takato was surprised nothing was broken. That was one of RinkmonÆs strongest attacks, right?

The Digivice was right; he really must be weak.

More than strong enough to kill a human, though; heÆd proven that quite thoroughly.

The storm stopped the moment he touched the floor.

Takato took a moment to recover and then looked up at Rinkmon, who was gazing at the ceiling.

ôA hologram?ö He asked.

ôYou wouldnÆt know, since youÆve never been in my room, but my ceilings about two feet higher then I made it look.ö Takato explained. ôWhile everyone was still distracted by the light, I ran down to my room, climbed onto the highest thing I could get on top of, and made a hologram to hid myself, since I knew youÆd come here.ö

ôCute.ö Rinkmon admitted. ôI didnÆt even think of the ceilings being fake.ö

ôI know.ö Takato said, grinning.

Rinkmon rolled his eyes beneath his mask, but let that remark slide; heÆd won and the boy was at his mercy now, so that plan he was so proud of didnÆt matter now.

ôNowàwhere were we?ö Rinkmon wondered. ôAh, yes. You said something about him showing up just in time, right?ö

Rinkmon showed him the blades on his arms with a smirk.

ôWell, itÆs now or never.ö

Rinkmon flickered towards Takato at a speed he could not hope to track.

But he didnÆt lay a hand on him.

Because in that moment, a giant fist literally punched through his bedroom wall and hit Rinkmon right in the face.

And most of the upper body, actually.

ôOh Yeah!ö A thunderous voice cried.

A grin stretched across TakatoÆs face.

He didnÆt even need to turn around.

He already knew who it was.

That hand and arm were too big, butà

There was only one person it could be.

HeÆd done it! HeÆd distracted Rinkmon long enough!

ôWelcome home.ö He said.

ôAhàSorry IÆm late.ö æGuilmonÆ replied. ôTraffic was a bitch.ö

Takato shook his head, back still to his partner.

He felt like laughing.

And crying.

ôYouÆre not late.ö He said instead. ôThe partyÆs just getting started.ö

Actually, we don't know what Guilmon evolved into. All we know is that its bigger than Guilmon. It could be V-dramon, X-Vmon, or even Growmon (I doubt its the latter though, since he doesn't exist).

Personally, I think it's V-dramon Black . The virus variation of V-dramon. Since Guilmon is a virus and all... Though nothing exists of him except a card.

Size is incredibly variable in Digimon, so honestly it could be anything. Veedramon seems far too small in V-Tamer to hit most of Rinkmon's body, but depends on the verse honestly. In that one other Manga of Digimon, Next I believe, even Greymon's had drastically different sizes (As well as drastically different parameters as the much smaller one was insanely fast), so it may not even be the same in the verse itself depending on what's what.

My money is on Growmon however. Open Windows seemed to me to be a 'Guilmon's mega changes' story, so I'm not sure if anything else changes. Though so long as the base is still Guilmon it probably doesn't matter, as his other one is Takato gets a digimon other than Guilmon.

The only difference is. In this story I don't believe Takato drew up Grow(l)mon yet. It thought the only evolutions Takato didn't draw up were Megalogrowmon and the Ultimate forms of Megidramon and Gallantmon. Which doesn't really matter in this setting due to the fact that the Megas have always existed in this story.

Takato hasn't drawn Growmon, which means Guilmon can't evolve into him, yet.

Technically, Takato drew a few robotic version's of Growmon before making the normal version, like the one that attacks by firing millions of missiles, one of which could have gone on to become the design for MegaloGrowmon.

So the only form's for Guilmon that Takato couldn't have created are his Ultimate Forms.
