Well... if it was not Ranma in the image, it would be cute and well drawn... but considering it is supposed to be Ranma, the body seems all wrong...

It is more like someone took a image of someone and plopped Ranma's head on it.

Think it works more as an outfit for the Orochi thing. Except four guys aren't crossdressing and putting Akane as the bait when Ranma is the far superior bait considering she could actually live through the attack.

I postulate two reasons:
1) There was canon use of hypnoshrooms, someone did fanpic about it and it's caught on and became a fad
2) It's an accurate portrayal of the characters, none of them are exactly all there

The only canon instances of hypnotism I can think of were all momentary ones.
- The sisters used the dancing dragon thing that forced their opponents to dance (really really lame ep)
- The old school martial arts had a brief thing with hypnosis as a distraction
- Like you said there was a magical mushrooms that would induce momentary hypnosis and instill a trigger reaction.

There might have been others, but the only other ones to come to mind were magical compulsions, not really hypnosis. Like the fishing rod of love, or those paper dolls Gosukuji used.

Ummm... No. Not being 'Exactly all there' is not hypnosis. If anything, most of the hypnosis doujin I've seen for Ranma 1/2 characters are to specifically to get them to do stuff out of character.

1) You're right, I misread Ero's comment and got my wires crossed with the hypno dim sum,
2) Point, but the Ranma cast are pretty out of it, a vacant look on their eyes like from hypno COULD be a valid way to drawing them

Bonbori.  I have no problem with 'Kimiko' (being fanon does not make something bad, after all), but I'm annoyed that I've been calling those maces by the wrong term for more than twenty years, and so will probably keep doing it out of habit.

Also, did a search for 'best Renma cosply.' Found this group, who are pretty impressive, all told.  The linked page has several images, I'll post the forst one, below (if the site doesn't have a 'no hotlinking' rule).

I mean, the faces aren't the best, but they've got the right body-types and expressions for each character (translated to real humans, at least, and accepting that using a stuffed toy for P-chan is far better than an actual piglet, in terms of avoiding injury and exhaustion) and the costumes are great.
