Recommended BtVS fics

I'll recommend TheLaughingMan's Xander-centered stories. I especially like Slade, where Xander accidentally dresses as Slade Wilson for Halloween (in the DC verse, where the original Slade is dead), and The Clown Prince of Justice, where Xander is the son of the Joker. Joker is from animated Batman series, while Xander is based on Heath's Joker.

Most of his fics make me wonder why he bothers naming his characters "Xander".

Buffy Batman the dark knight crossover. So far I like it in that it actually pays respect to both series, and doesnt have any seriously noticeable wank on either end. Very balanced and entertaining.
Reading this now. It is seriously awesome, and gets both sets of characters down pat. Although my inner-geek is wondering if the Vampire Slayer can really take the Goddamn Batman.

Losing a bet to Willow, Xander was forced to dress up as a Jewish character for Halloween. She should have been more specific.

A BuffyTVS/X-men Crossover
*does suck at summaries*

Bah, I thought the summary was sufficient. Enough to make the reader think a little, make them wonder, perhaps even make them guess (semi-correctly). Then, you state -which- Jew it is, and then throw another minor loop into the mix at having him have only his memories (for now).

I still think it's well done, and am looking forward to more.

The effect is largely ruined in the the detective's intelligence is never really shown in this fic. It's almost as if he's handed all of his conclusions on a silver platter. And the ending was just nonsense, because (spoiler): in real life, Doyle was a fool; he believed in all kinds of supernatural nonsense and was even fooled by photographs of paper cut-outs of fairies, taking them as real. Writing a good story about a great detective evidently doesn't mean that you'll be able to function as an even remotely competent detective yourself. Not to mention it was pretty anvilicious in the first place.

But I am being a bit harsh here. It really is a fairly good story; it just could have been a lot better if some of the intended foreshadowing wasn't advertised with giant neon signs.

Learning to Breath It's a Bleach Cross but goddamn don't I wish it would hurry up so I can see the look on all the captains faces when she show back up.
See, that started off really well, but then it started rushing things. And by the time I got to the latest chapter, where it was all ZOMG MEAN SCOOBS GO DIE PLZ, I just gave up.

I don't enjoy that any more than I enjoy the ZOMG MEAN BUFFY version. As a fandom, I'd hoped we'd have moved past that by now. Ah well, just another reason why my personal timeline ends after Graduation Day.

To be truthful if someone pulled YOU from what you would consider true hevean into this/buffy world, would you forgive them?

Let's not forget Wilow had an inkling of where Buffy was, but wanted her best friend back anyway. Where did that leave Xander?

If I was a thousand year old Shinigami captain with combat and command experience under my belt?

Yes.

I'd be a bit miffed that they'd not been arsed to dig up my coffin first, as that's a stupid oversight. They'd get a chewing out, sure, but I wouldn't go catatonic. It's not like I've never used a Gigai or gone Hollow hunting in the human world, now is it?

Then I'd run them into the ground to develop spiritual powers, send them against the Turok-Han with small unit tactics, Zanpakuto and Shinigami combat arts while I rape The First with Bankai. Unless some idiot had decided that my in-born Shinigami abilities should disappear for no reason at all, as though I were Ichigo borrowing Rukia's powers.

You'd have a point with Buffy from canon - she was pulled out of Heaven. This Buffy wasn't - she knew fine and well that SS wasn't heaven, but she'd made a place for herself and was happy there. She'd also recognized that she was a fighter, a survivor, and would never be satisfied with rolling over and giving up. Until the fanfic author needed her to, of course.

To rip her out and dump her in Season 6 and have her react exactly the same way as normal Buffy was laziness on the author's part, and having her pull the General Buffy act despite her <s>admittedly Shounen based</s> military experience was a total fumble.

I'd have preferred to see Season Six and Seven get totally reworked, with Amaya!Buffy at the helm of her own personal demon-slaying Gotei squad.

To be pedantic, canon-Buffy was pulled out of some place that she thought was Heaven. We don't have any confirmation that that's where she was. For one thing, she made no mention of her mother being there, and for another, she 'knew' that the people she loved were happy and safe, which they really weren't. Maybe heaven does lie, but its a point against the place she was in, IMHO.

Don't know much about Bleach, so I never read the story in question. But any AU story that fails the Butterfly Effect test can't hold my interest for very long nowadays.

And something ofrom my FFN favourites to spice things up a little.

Something Old by mikelesq
Summary: AU (sort of) - What if Willow had made a different choice at the end of æSomething Blue'?
