Orochimaru.

Can't you just see him in a white labcoat, sneaking around the GeoFront, plotting Gendo's overthrow and hitting on Shinji.

One thing I'd like to point out that unlike replacing Gendo, for whom any Magnificent Bastard would do; Ritsuko Akagi is deeply involved in building the Evangelions, its weapons, figuring out the Angel's AT-field dickery, and checking up on Rei. This means whoever replaces her better be a damn good geneticist and biomechanical wizard, for if the job is foisted off to someone else... then there's really little point in replacing Dr. Akagi. Might as well just make up a new post for NERV.

Strangely, for this situation I feel an expy of Orochimaru would actually work best. Angels and Evangelions are functionally immortal, after all.

Dr. Light is perfect, then. Aside from his work in the robotics department, do remember that in the Megaman world, even humans have half a ton of biomechanical implants all over them.

This is especially evident in the X and Zero series, where there isn't a single human who's fully human - even so-called pure humans are heavily mechanized. And in Zero, there's little difference left between humans and Repliroids. And if you go by Mega Man Legends, there aren't any humans left. Repliroids have become so advanced they even bleed, reproduce and die as if they were humans.

Even in the basic Megaman series, it's implied that humans are in the process of becoming more mechanical due to implants...

I think Gendo might decide to keep Rei to himself, were he to hire Dr. Light, or hell, anybody.

And Ritsuko wasn't really involved in the building of the Evas. I don't remember the timeline too well, but I remember that Yui died long before Naoko Akagi, and Unit 01 was already fully built at the time.

If not Evas, then what? ^_~ Well, a little semantic quibble on the word 'build', instead of 'create', 'develop', or 'invent'.

You do know that some bio-machinebeasts are literally merged with the hapless humans that provide them with intelligence, yes? That'd make the Evangelions that much creepier...

I forget whether this may have been mentioned already, but the Nathan Stark above gave me an idea. Not that I actually know who that is (I think).

Tony Stark. Maybe not replacing Ritsuko, since he's only got the mechanical aspects of it, but he could be a fun addition.

Wallace (From Wallace and Gromit).

The guy made a rocket in his basement so he could spend a three-day weekend on the moon - and it worked! He made a motorcycle sidecar into a functioning airplane. I'm sure he could do something with EVA grade technology.

Of course, Gromit, who is by far the most intelligent member of the cast of those stories, would end up sniffing out what is really going on in NERV.

You know what? I have no Idea where this would go, and that makes it all the more awesome. It's the sort of deep 'wow,I cant see how far this tunnel goes' feeling.
I can almost see him offering cheese and crackers to the staff of NERV. And I wonder how complex the rube goldberg of a system for launching an Eva would be.

"Dr. Birkin, care to explain why the Rei clones broke out of their vats and are happily eating the brains of anyone they come across?"

"...would you believe me if I told you I haven't the foggiest, Commander?"

"No."

Dr. Samantha Carter....

Rodney McKay...
Yeah, but Rodney McKay isn't blonde a pretty....
Although he lacks the common sense that Carter has
And "Fapping to David Hewlett" doesn't have the same nice ring to it as "Fapping to Amanda Tapping".

And Pen-Pen would likely end up as a relative of Feathers McGraw, the villain of The Wrong Trousers.

How about the Borg Queen ? What she doesn't know about the Eva's she can assimilate and adapt.

In a similar vein... Davros... The creator of the Darleks (I really hate when they are called Daleks, I'm old school Dr. Who).
