So we like DnD, right? I'd say so, seeing as you're reading the topic. Now, what makes DnD awesome, that you have control of? Setting, plot and plans.

I've got some stuff to help you. It's mostly for those of us who like the Forgotten Realms, but there is absolutely no reason you couldn't put any of the stuff here into your custom world.

Firstly: Waterdeep, City of Splendors. Greatest city on Faerun, large enough to run entire campaigns in without ever needing to leave, and epic pain to plan out. There are a ton of sources, but actually making a map of the entire city would be impossible.

Not.

Here we have a full, street view map of Waterdeep, someone's project of two years. Most of the details are accurate as of 2e, but it should work fine for a 3e campaign. 4e players are out of luck.

The above map was made using the City of Splendors guide, as well as Volo's Guide to the City of Splendors. What is Volo's Guide, you ask?

The Volo's guides are a set of local Forgotten Realms campaign guides, like City of Splendors or Lands of Intrigue. The difference is that Volo was written across the later years of second edition, and written in character. Volothamp Geddarn is a totally awesome guy, known as the greatest traveller in the Realms. He's best known for his book series, the Volo's Guides to _______.

And WotC posted more than half of them to their website. :)

Here are the ones available:

Volo's Guide to All Things Magical (Good for magic items and unique spells)

Volo's Guide to the North (Neverwinter, Luskan, etc.).

Volo's Guide to Cormyr (Cormyr, some border stuff)

Volo's Guide to the Dalelands (Shadowdale, Highdale, Moondale, Scardale... ah, screw it. The Dalelands.)

The next few are not available on the WotC site. But that's okay, okay? :D

Volo's Guide to Baldur's Gate II (Amn, Tethyr)

Volo's Guide to the Sword Coast (save the pdf) (Baldur's Gate area, Candlekeep, up to Waterdeep and down to Amn)

<s>Unfortunately, I'm unable to find a non-torrent version of Volo's Guide to Waterdeep. If anyone could put it up, I'd appreciate it.</s>

There's a lot of material here. You could probably build an entire campaign just on some of the references here, easy. Anyway, what do you guys have to say? What are your campaigns and your campaign building tips?

EDIT: Nevermind. Found Volo's Guide to Waterdeep. This guide covers... Waterdeep. Yeah.
