Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

So, who's excited about this one?

I just got done reading the books, and if the movie's half as good, then it'll still be twice as good as most of the movies I've seen this summer. The only way this could suck is if they fail the ending. Hard.

I'm just wondering if they're going to pull off the gaming jokes and 4th wall breaking as well.

I'm kinda interested to see how it'll differ from the books.. According to an interview I read, the script is based of notes written by Bryan Lee O'Malley right after the release of the second book... So I kinda want to see what his original ideas were and how the differ from the final product..

Just finished watching it, and it was ridiculously amazing. I admit, I haven't read the comics yet, I still need to borrow them from one of my friends, so I can't compare the two, but the movie itself was awesome.

EDIT: Stupid double post.

My brother went and saw it, and I gotta ask: do they just need an 8th guy so they'll have an even number for bowling teams?

Just an amazing movie. It's very faithful to the books, but it's different enough that it doesn't feel like a rehash. Add to that the freaking soundtrack is amazing. It's out and above the best movie that premiered last friday. The visuals are probably the best part of the movie, as it provides the same sort of information that the panels of the comic did.

If there were any more tongue-in-cheek video game jokes in that movie it'd double in size and find a Fire Flower.

Did anyone catch the anime reference with Ramona, during her first fight? Hammerspace. I just fucking rolled.

There is literally nothing wrong with this movie, and this is the first American movie I can say that about in quite a few years. Ten out of ten. If you see one movie this summer, make it this one.

That's from the comics, in fact. Ramona has a Bag of Holding which includes the hammer, a baseball bat, has held Scott, and apparently includes a portal to her mind.

Oh, and her underwear. It gets all over the place when the bag is destroyed in the comics.

Also, the movie = win.

good movie, kind of sad it didn't do better in the box office but seriously going up against the expendables was a bad idea, even if it was the better movie overall.

I read the comics afterwards as i was interested, they did a good job overall considering how much they needed to cram but you definitely felt scott being a douche far more effectively in the comics.

It's a movie for the 8 bit generation.

For those of us who grew up with it, all the references were stellar, and brought back many memories. This is life if life was like the video games of our youth.

Sadly, I don't see that aspect attracting many non-gamers or people who aren't fans of the comics. Probably destined to have the same fate as Speed Racer.

that being sad, loved the film from start to finish and will buy the blu-ray day 1.

Sorry, while the movie premise seemed promising.

I can't bring myself to see anything with the horrible acting of Michael Cera.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is awesome and everyone should see it :p

More detailed review: The story was a step down from the comic books, but the action was a step up. One step down and two steps up, actually, I'd say. The only part I really regretted missing was most of volume 3, with the details about Envy. Some of the scenes were line-for-line, though the settings were switched here and there. Others were altered entirely, like Knives' problems boiling over during the Gideon fight instead of earlier. The movie, much like the game, is slightly less serious than the source material in places, but overall it follows the source material closely enough to satisfy fans without alienating the uninitiated with the details. The NegaScott was handled in an especially lulzy manner, though it didn't have nearly the same impact on the story. Overall, go see it for the action and the comedy. If you want a deeper story, go pick up the comics. I'd advise picking them up anyway, but that's just me.

While it is completely true that some actors are only good at certain acting roles, it's unfair to discount this movie just because of one of them. This director really managed to get the full mileage out of Cera's awkward teen trademark. And I don't happen to count Cera among the single acting types since I saw Youth in Revolt.

Example : Keanu Reeves. He is most definitely a single role type. I will watch him be the creepy emotionless type any day of the week, because that's his thing; Neo, Klaatu and whathaveyou. Fuck, I'll have a beer with the guy - if stories are to be believed, he's a far cry from the primadonna actor types, and actually a fairly humble guy. He openly admits that he's not that good at acting, or that smart for that matter, and spends most of his money on his bedridden sister, who has leukemia. He's dyslexic, his girlfriend had a stillborn kid and committed suicide and his father left him when he was three. He's been shit on a lot more than most people and still keeps going.

But there is still no way in fuck I am going to see the live-action Cowboy Bebop movie, in which he is cast as Spike.

tl;dr. Cera isn't such a bad actor, and the antics more than make up for it. Watch it faggot.

Also, daniel_gudman, I'm in complete agreement with you. Christoper Nolan shits gold as far as I'm concerned. But in a face off between Inception and Scott Pilgrim, I'm going to have to pick the one that didn't make me want to kill myself to make sure I wasn't in a dream afterwards.

If he is the LEADING ACTOR you can bet your ass I will discount the movie.

Cause I don't want to sit through an hour and a half of him.

Judging by your reaction, Nolan won.

Damn him. Damn him to heck.

I haven't seen him in any other movies before I saw him in Scott Pilgrim. I really liked it so I went to check him out in other movies/shows. I watched Arrested Development, and I really enjoyed that. I watched Juno because they showed it on USA and I liked that. And from what I hear Superbad was really good. I'm renting Youth in revolt for the weekend, haven't sat down to watch it yet but it looked awesome in the trailers I saw. So I don't get this Michael Cera hate.

What I see is him being type cast because he pulls off those roles well. There's nothing wrong with that.

I think most of the hate a Cera is because of his perceived lack of ability to play a different role. I myself consider him to be mediocre at best. I've seen most of his movies and in every movie I find myself asking "Is he playing the same guy from the last movie?"

Superbad was great, don't get me wrong.

Then I saw Juno. He was pretty much the same guy from superbad... just in shorts. The only good part about that movie was Ellen Page

Nick and Norah- again with the "awkward teen" thing when he's, like, twenty-two. Okay, starting to get a little annoying.

Year One... really? How are you an awkward teen CAVEMAN? The guy who played McLovin (name escapes me now) can change characters better.

The only reason I am interested in seeing Youth in Revolt is if there is a chance he might diversify a little bit.

No, I don't hate Micheal Cera. He has a lot of potential. He just annoys people a little. I'm sure he will eventually become a better actor.

some people are just stuck in that "awkward" phase a little longer than others. Speaking of which, I STILL need to see Scott Pilgrim :sweat2:
