So, I've never actually played Fate/Stay Night.

Now, I'm sure some of you've got your material from the anime, but I intend to play the actual game. Unfortunately, I already know way too much of the major plot twists (Rosebud is the sled!) so that takes away a bit of the oomph factor, but hopefully the journey is still very, very excellent.

In any case, PC version obviously, with voice acting, complete translation, sex scenes and extra CG. GG

Anyways, I think I may actually just ignore the voice acting, as it slows me down when reading through the text. Through the initial scenes and school stuff, now into the night scenes.

Yes, so many words I couldn't get past the prologue. Kingdom Hearts does endless prologues much better.

I recall Kingdom Hearts 2 epic 3-hour prologue.

Anyways, slugging through the prologue, I think it's interesting how the game sets up to make it look like Rin is the main protagonist for awhile. Also, given that some or all of the magic is spoken German is interesting. I would hardly call myself proficient in German, but I can generally understand the language at about the primary education level (but not as many nouns as most Germans at that age would know), so it's neat to follow along and translate it in my head when Rin's speaking.

In any case, she summons <s>Shirou from the future</s> Archer, then goes into the tsun part of her personality. Then they move to her bedroom, which should set up for a sex scene, except this is the prologue we're talking about, it's too soon for that and there haven't been any flags set up yet.

Then we get a big tour of Fuyuki City with Archer in tow, and holy shit, so much foreshadowing in the park area.

Ended playing off with where Rin encounters Sakura.

So, are YOU gar for Archer?

Finished the prologue. Epic fight is epic between him and Lancer, and knowing what his true leet skillz are it's obvious why he was able to summon so many swords. I don't know whether he actually really has partially lost his memories at this time or if he's just lying his ass off though.

On a side note, Archer mentions during the fight with Lancer that he's already figured out which heroic spirit Lancer is, and Rin should have heard this, yet she doesn't bring this up later on. Is this something that gets resolved quickly into the main story, or is she just being the dumb broad she's painted herself as repeatedly again?

Lol sietora.

A little knowledge of the series does more harm than good going into the the VN.

Just know that you have to slog through the routes in order. Fate -> UBW -> Heaven's Feel.

The main story is told from Shirou's perspective, and he and Saber learn Lancer's identity almost immediately, so what and/or whether Rin knows about it never comes up.

I'm aware.

Anyways, after Shirou's intro prospective, I get treated to a long, long, long scene of Shirou and Sakura (wordswordswords). The voice actress who does Sakura has a very nice, soft 'shy' voice. I really enjoy it. Anyways, her and Shirou are already basically a domestic couple and oh god it's almost painful to watch. We get a brief look at the genki girl teacher.

The first hint at the 'intersecting point' between the first two days from Rin's perspective and then Shirou's perspective comes right at school, as Sakura mentions going to the archery club, where she met Rin in Rin's perspective. After some time with Issei, we also get a brief glimpse at Shirou's 'perception' ability.

Had I been playing this game COMPLETELY blind, I would have had no idea what Rin looks like whatsoever, and this would have the first time I see her in-game character portrait. She gets about ten seconds of screen-time in the game opening video, but she's accompanied by Archer for only about one second, so the rest of the video you have no idea who she is.

Ah, the original visual novel. Never did finish Heaven's Feel, after my computer died and I never bothered to reinstall it; I just watched some Let's Play videos on Youtube instead.

I gotta wonder how long it'll be before you hit your first Bad Ending, though. ;) :p

Another thing that occurs to me.

Rin mentions to Archer that there's only one other student in the school who is a magi, who has very weak magic. Is she referring to Sakura or somebody else?

I thought she meant Shirou, but it has been a while.

I don't think Sakura is weak, and without any training she's not a magus.

I always thought it was Shinji she was referring to.

She can't have meant Shirou, she was surprise to learn that he was a magus when he summoned Saber. Not to mention her motivation for resurrecting him after Lancer stabbed him in the school was that she though he was a complete innocent.

I thought her motivation for healing him was because she had a crush on him, and knew her sister did as well. ;) :p

You have the True Reason, Deathwings has the Tsundere reason, though the tsundere reason did play a part too.

Sakura has training. That's the entire point behind Shinji raping her. She is weak because the water element she inherited from the Matou isn't natural, and she lacks compatibility with pretty much all of their magic.

Rin is well aware of it, we learn that she specifically checked Sakura for Command Seals and didn't find them, which is why she thought Zouken did the summoning.

Anyways, continuing on, capped off the first day from Shirou's perspective. Fujimura is like said before literally a genki girl, who wears striped shirts with yellow and black like a tiger and has a :3 smile and doesn't afraid of anything. Shirou's attempts at magic hint at some despair. Also we get the first in-game appearance of the Empress of all Lolis.

Finally, a brief look at Shirou and his dreams. I dunno about you but if all I dreamed about were swords I'd think something was wrong with my mental condition.

And Shirou's second day. After wordswordswordswordswords breakfast, then talking with Issei and Archery club captain girl, Shirou goes to Shinto and we get another intersection with Rin's perspective from the prologue.

There's a murder mentioned, with three people getting killed and a daughter survived. Issei mentions they were killed with a 'long' weapon, which makes it fairly obvious that Lancer dunnit, since Saber hasn't been summoned at this time and all the other Servants (Archer aside, who's accounted for) don't fit on account of their class name alone (Berserker would have left a messier scene, presumably). I dunno if the survivor becomes anybody of importance later on in the game, though.

And finally we get a nice background scene in Shirou's dream reminiscing of the Shinto fire.

And finally the third day, which went on and on and on and on. Lancer kills Shirou, Shirou gets a Revive, Shirou goes home and gets attacked by Lancer again only to summon Saber.

After Shirou goes and shows off his chauvinism a bit, Rin finally plays a big role, and does an infodump for us. I can see why so many people compare her to a fox  . The one problem I have so far here is that Shirou somehow doesn't clue in on Rin's multiple mentions that a Master and Servant must kill "all other Masters", which means he or Rin has to die before the war is over. I realise he's sort of still in the heat of the moment, but I would expect him to figure that out right away.

Then finally we get going off to see Kotomine Kirei, where I end this post.
