SMT: Persona shorts!

I figured Joshua would have the Messiah persona. He keeps spamming Jesus beams enough for it to work.

For Neku (or even Joshua), you can always use the man from Greek myth who literally cheated death at least twice. The man cursed to roll a huge ball up a slick hill, only for it to go back down before he'd reach the top. God, I can't remember his name.

Oh, dammit! I know exactly who you're talking about!

I think it was Pessimus or something.

But yeah. He really got the short end of the stick, except next to Prometheus, who had his liver eaten every day by an Eagle.

Where did Pessimus come from? :snigger:
It came from my sleep-deprived brain.

*laughs*

Sisyphus, Pessimus, whatever.

It sounded greek, and I had like 5 minutes left before my dad killed the internet, so research wasn't really an option.

Plus, wouldn't you be a total pessimist if you had to roll a boulder to the top of a hill, only to have it roll back down again?

Fromt the 'What if's' thread:
Seta Souji wondered why he had allowed this to happen.

He couldnÆt blame anyone but himself for this whole mess. Why he hadnÆt stopped them when he had the chance, he had no idea.

Before he could manage to return to an upright position, he started to feel sick. His arms suddenly were weak and his vision was shaky.

What the heck was going on? Yosuke was fine, so why wasnÆt he? Unlessà No, that couldnÆt be rightà

In the stupidity of trying the foùôMysterious Food X,ö had he swallowed some without realizing it?

As soon as the idea passed though his mind, he felt his stomach rebel. Whatever he had swallowed did not agree with his body.

He actually felt like that thing was trying to eat him from the inside. But that was just his imaginationà right?

He knew what was going to happen in a few seconds. But before that, he had a very important task to finish. Gathering his energy, he moved, despite his body pleading to just stay lying down.

Souji stood up, walked to the girls watching him nervously and grabbed them by a shoulder.

The fact that his eyes looked dead serious about whatever he was going to say or do did nothing to calm them down.

ôW-WhatÆs wrong, Souji?ö Chie asked. She wanted to run away or at least put a little more distance between him and her, but his grip kept her from doing that.

Souji didnÆt care how uncomfortable they felt. He made sure that both were looking at him before speaking.

ôNext day off, cooking lesson at my place.ö

His task complete, he finally past out to the surprise of everyone watching the scene.

------------------------------

The whole day, Souji reflected, had been hell. Not only the work and the food, but being lectured by King Moron and knowing that he was right for once, about the complete lack of intelligence he had demonstrated.
And now, an idea from Watashiwa that inspired me:
Souji took a few seconds to glance at his list. He had the rice, the onions, the potatoesà

ôErrà Souji?ö

Ah right, the carrots. He knew the fridge had one, but that wouldnÆt be enough for the curry.

ôSenpai?ö

Hopefully, this would rid him of the sickness he felt every time he saw a curry plate. The school campout had been a traumatic experience that he wanted to erase from his memory. It had been a success.

Except for the food. No matter how much he wanted to, he COULDNÆT forget that.

ôSouji, areàö

ôWhat is it?ö Souji asked, finally answering his friends following him.

Yosuke was silent. Frankly, Souji looked far too serious about this self-imposed task. Even now, he looked at the two of them as if he was going to give them orders like he did in the TV world just before facing a strong Shadow.

ôHow can I say thisà? Um, are you sure this is a good idea? I mean, will they even come after what happened at the river?

ôWerenÆt we supposed to forget about that, Senpai?ö

ôOh, sorry. But still, you understand what IÆm saying, right?ö

ôI bribed them with food.ö

ôOh.ö

Yosuke didnÆt say anything after that. There was no need to.

Despite the fact that it hadnÆt been three months since Souji came to Inaba, it would be difficult to ûnot- know who he was at school. It wasnÆt because he was the transfer student. In fact, if you asked a student about him, he would only mention that bit last, if at all.

First there was his intelligence. Some had suspected he was bright since he always answered the questions aimed at him correctly, but the exams nailed the point home. Souji was smart, even taking the top scoring position from Yukiko.

Her fans werenÆt happy when she congratulated him about it.

Next, Souji could apparently help anyone get anything they wanted. The rumors about that hadnÆt start until he got something for Ms. Sofue. After that request, people noticed she was quite happy with her new rod, and she didnÆt hesitate to explain why. But Souji never revealed his source, so some speculated that he had contacts with high-placed persons who could and would get him anything he asked for.

Of course, the investigation team knew better than that.

Lastly, everyone knew that Souji was a great cook. Despite insisting that everyone was exaggerating, nobody believed Souji when he said that he was ôOnly okay.ö All one needed to do was ask his friends. They never complained when he invited them for lunch. Some students said that theirs was a biased review, but there were too many corresponding accounts to take that detraction seriously. Yosuke, Chie, Yukiko, Kou and Daisuke, Ayane, Aià Anyone he invited for a meal would later be seen in quite a good mood. Some whispers even told that the chef at the Amagi inn was considering hiring him part-time.

Once again, YukikoÆs fans were not happy. Risette fans would join that group soon enough and it would be the same when Naoto joined his group of friends, but thatÆs for the future.

Still, even the angry ones acknowledged his talent at cooking.

ôKanji, can you get me four carrots while I go get some pork? Make sure you check the ones at the bottom of the stack first, theyÆre usually the freshest.

ôOk, Senpai.ö

Kanji left while Yosuke followed with Souji.

ôDude, are you sure about this? I mean, even if it was an accident, it had to take skill to make something that bad. And even if one of them made a mistake, theyÆd still probably argue that they didnÆt do anything wrong.ö

ôIÆm sure about this. If I demonstrate how to do it first, watch them as they cook it and write the recipe down step-by-step for them, thereÆs nothing that can go wrong, right?ö

Famous last words.
Maybe I deviated a little in the middle of it, but meh.

If this make you write a snippet for that idea, then by all mean don't hesitate to post it. The more the merrier.

Wow... that's really good. It looks like Soujis cooking class will not end well for him.

I've got to run, but as soon as I get back I'll edit both of the snippets.

In case you need more to write about; how about jumping to Yukiko and Chie, them discussing what went wrong at the campout and deciding to try and show Souji that they can cook (of course, we know that they're going to fail, with ensuing hilarity... :evil2: ).

Chie and Yukiko are unique in that they actually feel bad about the Mystery Food X fiasco. Souji tasting it with full knowledge of what it likely was was basically a "Taking One For The Team" situation.

...Of course, that doesn't stop them from doing it again, but it's the thought that counts. And Souji's ironclad determination to erase MFX from existence is hilarious. He's like the grizzled survivor of an experiment gone wrong making sure such a tragedy never happens again.

They're also not unique in that they don't feel the slightest bit guilty that they punished the boys for going to the baths during the correct time, then proceeded to stay in the baths and laugh it up. <_<

The boys don't even get vengeance for it. The hell...

Once again, Watashiwa inspired me.

Cooking Lessons, First Lesson Take #1:
He ran home as soon as he heard about it. His superiors wouldnÆt be happy, since he ran off during work hours, but he had no time to explain.

It wasnÆt every day that you got a phone call telling you that an ambulance had been dispatched to your house. That it was for Souji was even more unexpected.

He parked his car and got out in a hurry.? The ambulance had already left, but he wanted to check if anyone was in the house before going to the hospital.

Once inside, he quickly took a look around. Tatsumi was sitting on the sofa. One of the waitresses from the inn was here, comforting Amagi. Satonaka was standing near her friend, looking equally distressed.

ôIÆm here. What happened?ö Another look around the room confirmed that someone he expected to see wasnÆt here. ôAnd whereÆs Nanako?ö

Kanji got up and walked to him.

ôShe said she wanted to go with senpai, so Yosuke went with her.ö

ôI seeà Souji said you were going to be here today but what on earth happened here?ö

Both Yukiko and Chie looked down as Kanji started to talkà

----------------------------

Flashback

ôCooking lessons?ö Nanako asked.

Souji had forgotten to inform Nanako of his plan for the day.

ôYes. IÆm going to teach Yukiko and Chie. You donÆt mind?ö

ôOf course not! Can I watch too?ö

ôOf course.ö

Yosuke and Kanji were here too. On the counter were all the ingredients needed for curry. Souji just needed to wait for the girls to arrive.

ôWhere are they anyway? ArenÆt they late?ö Yosuke asked, checking the clock.

Just as he asked, the doorbell rang. Souji opened the door.? As expected, it was Chie and Yukiko.

ôSorry weÆre late!ö Chie called as they entered. ôWeà Wait, what are you guys doing here?ö She asked, spotting Yosuke and Kanji.

ôWell. I wanted to see how it would go.ö

ôI had nothing to do, so I decided I might as well learn something from senpai.ö

ôI see.ö Chie answered. ôBut I think you came for nothing.ö

ôWhy?ö Souji asked, curious. Yukiko moved forward and held out a lunchbox in front of her.

ôWell, before coming here, we tried to make curry again. I know we made a few mistakes the first timeàö

ôJust a few?!ö Yosuke interrupted

ôAlright, so it wasnÆt edible!ö Chie snapped, before turning to Souji. ôWe decided to try it again but then we realized we were going to be late so we came here right after we finished. IÆm pretty sure it turned out right this time, so can you try it?ö

Souji took the lunchbox and opened. Indeed, it looked good. Nothing seemed strange.

Then again, Mysterious Food X also looked normal at first glanceà

ôWhere did you cook it?ö Souji asked, curious. If his suspicions were rightà

ôWe cooked it at the inn, why?ö Yukiko answered.

ôJust curious.ö

Well, it was probably safe then. The staff of the Amagi inn would have stopped the two if there was something strange about the curry.? Souji knew Yukiko was trying to learn how to cook by herself, and even though she wasnÆt good at it so far, it was still edible and better than her effort with Chie at the campout.

ôAlright then. Just give me a second.ö

He took the lunch box and grabbed a spoon. He sat down at the table with the curry in front of him. Yukiko and Chie moved closer to await his verdict. Souji took one bite of the meal.

Everyone leaned forward, waiting for his reaction.

A few seconds later, SoujiÆs eyes rolled back into his head and he fainted.

ôWhat the hell!? Souji?ö

ôSenpai, are you still awake? Senpai!

ôBig bro!ö

The girls were too stunned to react. Like a scene out of a horror movie, it got worse.

ôOh my God, is he foaming at the mouth? IÆm not dreaming? Kanji, call an ambulance, quick!ö

ôA-Alright! Hold on senpai!ö

ôBig bro! Big bro! Nooooo!!ö

----------------------------

ôIt was pretty much a blur after that. Nanako wouldnÆt leave senpai, no matter what, so Yosuke went with her.ö

ôIà see.ö Dojima said, glancing at the curry at the center of the situation. He then turned to the waitress.

ôCan I ask why youÆre here?ö

ôWellà As you know, they cooked that at the inn. We were busy at the time so we didnÆt pay attention to what they were doing. As soon as they realized they were going to be late and that they still had to clean up, we offered to clean for them. They packed and left right then. However, once we started cleaning, the chef realized what they had made and immediately sent me to stop them. But I was too late...ö

She then bowed to him in apology.

ôIÆm sorryà If only we had noticed it earlieràö

ôNo, itÆs alright. ItÆsà Hold on a second, I need to answer the phoneö

Dojima took the phone that had started ringing and immediately answered it.

ôDojima residenceà Yesà Yesà ThatÆs goodà Alright then. Yes, IÆll give them the message. Make sure to bring Nanako home, alright? Thanks.ö

He turned off the phone and turned to the people waiting for him to tell the news from the hospital.

ôThat was Hanamura. As expected, it was food poisoning. SoujiÆs resting right now, but he should be back tonight if all is good.ö

He then turned to Chie and Yukiko.

ôBefore falling asleep Souji also mentioned that he wasnÆt giving up on you two.ö

Silence followed that declaration. Apparently, Souji was more stubborn than any of them had given him credit for.

Or suicidal. Maybe it was both.

ôWowà SenpaiÆs really determined about this.ö

----------------------------

He slowly returned to consciousness. The last thing he remembered was eating thatà thatà whatever it was, and then darkness. He opened his eyesà

And saw the very familiar face of Sayoko Uehara right in front of him.

ôWhoa! U-Uehara-san?!ö

Souji lost no time moving back on the bed. The nurse chuckled at his reaction as she stepped away.

ôEh eh, did I scare you? I saw you moving so I decided to have a little funàö

Souji started to calm down. He really couldnÆt let his guard down around her.

ôI heard about what you did. That wasnÆt very smart of you given you already knew what those girls were capable of cooking up.ö

ôI thought someone had kept an eye on them to prevent just thatàö

ôThen I suppose it couldnÆt be helpedà But that makes me wonder, how good are you at cooking?ö

ôWellà I think IÆm good. I havenÆt had any complaints yet.ö

ôMy. I donÆt usually eat at night, but I would like to try your food once. Who knows, I could even reward you if itÆs good enoughàö

Once again, Souji felt himself becoming very nervous. This, of course, only made Sayoko smile even wider.

ôYouÆre so fun to tease! Well, if youÆre alright, you can go home. But I really would like to try your cooking someday.ö

Sayoko left after that. Souji left for home immediately after her, thinking about his future plans on the way.

There was no way he could give up now. It would be a hard and long road, but he was more determined than ever to teach Yukiko and Chie to cook. If not for himself, then for the sake of anyone else who would ever try to eat what they cooked.

Well, people always said that the road to success was long and painful.
More of this and I feel I'll move to the preview part.

I know there must be mistakes in there, so I'll correct them as soon as I see them pointed out.

Currently editing parts one and two; three will be done after those.

About this most recent piece--it's good. You've got a good grasp of the characters (or at least their assumed canon characters; thank you manga version) so it reads well. Yukiko and Chie ought to be damned grateful to Souji, seeing as he's putting his life on the line for the sake of their cooking.

Need more inspiration? How about Souji returning to school, Yousuke running his big mouth about the cooking lessons, and people coming up to him to express their sympathy for his trying to teach Yuki and Chie how to cook. Bonus points if the two of them have a nickname in Home Economics having to do with their ability to poison people who try their cooking.

Additionally, at least one person should ask if this is just an excuse to seduce both of them at once. You win the internet if Souji's response is misinterpreted as "Yes".

That last part would be hard to do, but the question "Are you trying to score both at one? Damn you're good, Souji!" needs to appear in some form.

Considering how fast rumors travel in small towns, Yosuke won't even have to do anything. First the campout and now this? They'll never be working together again without someone else in Home Economics. (I also need to mention I never had that class in school, so I don't really know what's taught in those classes.)

As for rumors about Souji trying to get both Chie and Yukiko... Oh yes, I have just the person in mind for starting those rumors...

And is the manga being translated somwhere? I didn't even see a single page of it yet. I'm going by what I know and what I feel they would do.

And lastly, just because I'm curious: How good are you at cooking? I think I'm decent at least. With a recipe, I do alright unless I screw up badly.

Bonus mini-snippet that I'll probably use in the future:
"Uh... If they're all making the same things, why are they splitting up to different parts of the market...?"

That was a very good question. There was an answer to it, but that would mean that someone's hard work had been...

"Don't worry Yosuke... They just didn't want to walk topgether, that's all."

Yosuke would probably just have agreed with Souji if he hadn't answered that in a voice that sounded far too creepy for him.

"I should get what I need too... Yukiko and Chie should be ok by themselves by now and Rise has been coming to watch every time I gave them lessons. There's nothing to worry about..."

With that, Souji walked off to get what he needed, muttering to himself. It should be worth noting that he went to a part of the market none of the girls went to.

"I think I'm scared Senpai..."

"Me too Kanji. Me too..."

Considering how fast rumors travel in small towns, Yosuke won't even have to do anything.
Rumors still need to start somewhere though. Someone could say, "Hey, my dad works at the hospital, and he says that Souji was in because of food poisoning!" After that, people would start Wild Mass Guessing, but it wouldn't go viral unless one theory jumped the heap. And Yousuke saying "Yeah, he was in the hospital because Yuki and Chie managed to poison him," would do it.

They'll never be working together again without someone else in Home Economics. (I also need to mention I never had that class in school, so I don't really know what's taught in those classes.)
Me neither. According to the parental unit, who was raised when Home Ec. and Machine Shop were still part of the national curriculum, Home Economics was the class where kids were taught basic living skills--cooking, sewing, and some other stuff (need to ask again; it's been a long time).

And is the manga being translated somwhere? I didn't even see a single page of it yet. I'm going by what I know and what I feel they would do.
Nooo... but my pathetic Japanese skills, some raws, a Kanji dictionary, a friend who doesn't mind helping me learn to read (doesn't care much for Persona though) and a semi-Japanese literate parental unit gave me some of it. It's not hugely different from the game. :huh.:

And lastly, just because I'm curious: How good are you at cooking? I think I'm decent at least. With a recipe, I do alright unless I screw up badly.
Surprisingly enough, I'm a decent cook. I use the recipes because my real knowledge of how to cook is awful, but my mistakes usually turn out better than they should, to the shock of my sibling. I do best with italian food and some asian foods, like stir-fry.

And re: the last snippet: Oh Souji, you poor bastard. Minato didn't have to put up with the horrors you're facing (remember the Priestess S.Link in P3? You needed Max Courage for a reason... :snigger: )

EDIT: Oh, just to let you know; part two is done, I'm going to go eat and then I'll finish the third and the bonus snippet and PM you the entire thing.

EDIT2:
Once again, Watashiwa inspired me.
I seem to be good at this... :snigger:

And yeah, the rumor-mill pretty much has to come into play for maximum comedy.
