Snape = Creepy Evil Stalker.

Harry= Butt-monkey of the universe.

Ron = Pathetic traitor, almost Wormtail.

Rowling= Not worth reading.

Yeah... I mean, seriously, what's Rowling trying to do, force a C.S. Lewis-type perspective on everyone who reads her books?

That might be fine for some people, but I want to see three-dimensional characters, not cardboard cutouts!
Expect of course she fucks it up big time as well.

At least C.S. Lewis actually was half way decent at writing his morality plays.

Rowling was of to a decent start with books One to Three, but when her editors started letting her run rampant the series turned to shit.

here's a thought, has anyone given consideration to a fic with a "Muggle-Born" Dark Lord?

You could do this a few ways: 1) he absolutely despises Purebloods and thinks "hey why not do the same to them! We outnumber them anyway!" Or 2) the more dramatic MB Dark Lord who sees EVERY magical person as superior to muggles.

Even better is if you have a dark lord who hates purebloods and if you insert him/her into the HP book series... well, I can see Harry perhaps making an alliance with said Dark Lord to take down Voldemort, then seperate ways later.

If you ask me, the Harry potter books would be A LOT better if more polotics were involved, if we got to see more of that world in the wizarding sense, and what the hell happened to the Unspeakables!? Really, Rowling does all this stuff about Unspeakable this and Unspeakable that, but in the end we only. meat. ONE.

Has anyone found a HP fic with him in Slytherin done the RIGHT way?

Whats most funny about your post is you are wrong. JKR herself said Hermione was her self insert and Ron 'I abandon my friends for food' Weasley is her perfect man.
Really? I thought it was Ginny, aww well, last time I listen to my sister.

Anyways, I've got a question.

If Harry were to have gone into Slytherin; realistically, what are his chances of survival?

Realistically?

Well, since on his first night in Gryffindor Tower Harry had a nightmare where he had Quirrel's turban on his head telling him to insist on being resorted to Slytherin, it would argue that Tom Riddle's own plans concerning Harry would be favored in that case.

And since the Dark Lord has only ever displayed an interest in killing him...

I would have to say it would substantially DECREASE Harry's chances for survival to be in the House where Voldemort would have the easiest access to him (ie, he's surrounded by the children of his followers and loyal cronies).

But that's just me.

As for Slytherin Harry having been done right, it seems to me nine tenths of the fan authors out there are convinced that being Slytherin would solve all of Harry's problems. They've produced thousands of fics toward that purpose. Take your pick.

Before Book 7 came out, I thought of doing a fic where Grindelwald was a German Muggleborn, and a Nazi. He and his followers used magic to sabotage the Allies war efforts, thus bringing them into conflict with the ICoW, as they were violating the International Statute of Secrecy. (Alternatively, he might have been a Muggleborn English patriot, who got the name 'Grindelwald' from the Germans. Think that would have shaken Hermione's trust and respect for the Headmaster?) I was also going to have someone mention that before Grindelwald, prejudice against Muggleborns was on the decline - but then he had to go and interfere in Muggle politics.

I might still write it, or use that idea in an earlier era. Maybe there were Muggleborns on both sides of the English Civil War, for example.

Maybe I should start another 'Open Idea' thread for this concept.

Oddly enough, I thought that the Princes Tale at least EXPLAINED Snape. Is he Petty? yes. Is a Douche? yes. But is he human? yes, he is. It also explains partially at least, why He hates Harry: a constant reminder of what he lost. sorry, going soft. but I agree, the Epilogue doesn't exist.

Voldemort tried to get Harry to sign on with him in the first book, as I recall. Whether that was a genuine offer or not is debatable though. I suspect that it wasn't and that Tommy boy would have slit Harry's throat the moment he had his own body again but we'll never know.

I think he was trying to get Harry to join him simply so he could figure out how he survived the killing curse.
