Soldier of the S-Class [Iron Fic 5-2]

My name is Andrew, and I am S-class.

I’ve seen war, I know it personally. I hate it.

I’ve taken part in solo missions that upheaved entire cities on the orders of my superiors, fighting for what should be good in this world. I’ve seen communities tear themselves apart to the last man, and then the last man dying of injuries or suicide, unable to cope.

I was able to cope. I was trained for this. I am a soldier for the United Kingdom, for the Queen and for the Commonwealth. I hate it, but this is all I know, this is all I can do. For a more peaceful world.

After the war ended, there was a lot of debated on what to do with the S-classes. As in accordance with the democratic leanings of our country, us S-classes were invited to share what we know and input on what we should do as a whole.

There’s a reason why the S-classes are feared. We can only fight, we can only make war. Of course, there is the classic axiom, “Peace through War,” and we believed in that with all of our hearts. We were war heroes during the Borders War. After though, we were feared.

The administration let most of us go to the Moon Colony. The few of us that stayed though, we wanted to make sure that the entire world knew how dangerous we were, and exactly how much we needed to be kept track of, to be restrained.

An S-class running through the wild is a human weapon capable of destroying an entire country.

I’m sure everyone had heard of Rome. That was the work of one of my best friends, a telepath of the highest order. John took control of the entire administration, painted himself as a terrorist, and then overloaded every single nuclear reactor in the vicinity.

The world knew, then, the terrible power that we hold.

The streets of London rioted, and I have to admit, they were helped along by me. Calls to kill every S-class in the world echoed through the streets. The death toll reached almost ten thousand. We were given an upper limit of fifty thousand. Those were acceptable losses. If a rogue S-class were to actively try to destroy, the death toll could reach into the hundreds of millions.

Parliament quickly took things into their own hands, to document every S-class born by disguising it as a mandatory annual checkup for all children. Truly ingenious, something that a normal human came up with. It was passed unanimously.

I’m not a telepath. I can’t control people precisely. What I can do, however, is induce feelings.

Rage, anger, MURDER.
Depression, shame, SUICIDE.

Is it any wonder why I am the administrator of this facility?

I only leave this to you, my successor, when the time comes. Know the power of S-class. Respect it. Control it. Dominate it. And make it yours. These are no longer children. They are soldiers, war machines. All they can do is kill. It’s your job to refine them and then point them in the right direction.

Godspeed.

Author's Notes: This is a fanfiction of Meinos Kaen's newest book, titled Children of the New Era. Read it. It's thought-provoking.

Huh, this really is a first. First fanfiction for a published story written by a TFFer, on the first day it's available for public consumption. That's... incredibly meta.

More importantly it's also the first Iron Fic submission I'll be judging this season! Without further ado, here is my scoring!

Writing Proficiency: 16/20 Pretty good, noticed a few places where things could have been phrased better and some other really minor improvements.
Theme: 15/20 I'm torn. On the one hand, there is a riot that's important to the story. On the other hand, it's not the focus of the story. I split the difference.
Source: 17/20 As the third person on the forum to read Meinos' book, I can say violinmana caught the spirit of it. Could have introduced the premise a little bit better, but it's not too difficult to work it out for oneself.
Story: 16/20 Semi-dystopian with a few neat punches.
Other: 19/20 I think this could become a larger story about people trying to control the S-class. Would be very good.
Total: 83

EDITED FOR SPELLING.
