So today we got a new modem/router thingy and I remembered that I tried this test long ago, so here's the new result:
Lemme guess, you got a DOCCIS 3.0 modem?

Heh... I'm out in the middle of nowhere... well a small village of some 3700 people... we have exactly 3 ISPs that will service me, and most are not the big names.

I have Windstream, which of the three is the only straight DSL provider, and they only have me 3mbs, because that is all that is offered in my village. They are however by far the cheapest. Yet they have proven fairly reliable.

As slow and pathetic as my results are compared to many, I've found I really do not need more all that often... only my mother resides with me, and she pretty much limits herself to browsing and YouTube and Hulu free/Crackle/Crunchyroll...

Only the rare times we both stream or do something draining do we really notice it.

SLow? Back in my day, you had to use dial up! It took five minutes just to connect to the internet, and it took seven seconds to load up a cat gif!

And it was winter all year round! We didn't have these fancy seasons! Didn't even have summer until the nineties, and then it just went from freezing cold to boiling hot overnight! It took until the millenia until we finally got Spring and Autumn working right!

For a decade and a half I was forced to use 26k dialup on damaged lines.

Get off my lawn.

You wanna know what's nauseating about that? You get much better speeds in the relative outback of MN than I do near the Twin Cities. 15Mbps is the best CenturLink will cough up for in our neighborhood, and Comcast can outpace the Supermassive Black Hole at the center of our galaxy for pure suckage ability.

See if Midcontinet Communications is out by you. I was surprised that they were available as I am about 30min outside the twin cities. Comcast isn't available by me which is what I had when I lived in the Twin Cities. Midcontinent is waaaay better.

Sadly, I move to Arizona in two weeks and have to deal with Cox Communications, which I hear is not the most reliable thing in the world.

No snow down there though so I call it a fair trade

Amen to that...

Just wait until midsummer in AZ though, Muze. I new a guy that worked there for a few years and between the cars literally being hot enough to fry eggs on, steering wheels that would actually burn you, the thing that irked him the most was that they almost never had a cloudy day. If you like those kinds of things, then you've got it made.
