Playing Type 0.

Barely started and have just entered the academy.

Creeped out by all the Mother bullshit and am incredibly suspicous of her.

Find out people don't remember the dead because the Crystal mind wipes them.

Welp, I can already tell this is going to be a wild ride.

Is it me or are FF games getting angtier and angstier ?

Honestly? Not really. Final Fantasy 4 was angst and failure, 6 was more of the same, 8 was a boatload of angst, derailed plot-hooks and you-failed-intentionally-but-sort-of-not. I'm not going to talk about 12.

Angst is like MSG. A little bit can make something addictive and delicious, too much will cause migraines.

Hmmm... maybe. The older games had more padding before things went horribly wrong. Here, we open with a guy and his Chocobo dying miserably as soldiers gun down the wounded and surrendering.

Type 0 is a war story....and makes that clear right from the get go. I'm not sure that Angst so much as honesty. Human beings aren't at their nicest in war.

I'm honestly not sure I agree after playing some of Type 0 HD and 15. I mean 15 is all about the bro's right now, and type 0 is part School of adventure and part war story. Neither one seems all that angsty to me, even with the darker elements.

So far, whose your favourite character to play as?

Trey and Cater have my long range game covered.

Jack and Cinque are my go to for laying the smack down.

Nine exists some where in the middle.

I'm not one to use magic much, so characters like Queen and Deuce don't really hold much appeal to me.

They had genders before? In all honesty, I wasn't sure how they bred in the first place.

Queen, Ace and Eight seem to be my goto squad leads. Ace's abilities make him highly versatile, Queen is often doing one hit kills due to the lock on system and Eight's combos are fun and allow me to wreck people fast.

Eight, really?

I've used him a few times, but he's slightly difficult to control.

Ace is versitile and easy to use.

And Queen is strong with magic too.

Seven and Sice look like they have great potential, but they are proving difficlut to control.

Who do you have trouble with?

Eight takes a bit of practice, but he hits hard and his stances have some really useful abilities, he's also very fast at later levels. I avoid using Jack and Cinque as their fighting styles are anathema to the way I like to fight. Seven and Sice are in the reserve squad along with Nine (whose kind of my back for Queen since he plays similarly though not as fast.) Machina has the dubious honor of being forgotten since he's not good enough to get played much but not bad enough to be memorable. Anyways, I'm taking a break from type Zero to design a character for Pillars of Eternity. Once I have something fun and viable I'll run through Type 0, before diving into that 70 hour campaign (so I've heard)

Well, I mean at least until recently when you saved the day you ACTUALLY SAVED THE DAY. But ever since 13, getting any sort of Good End is like pulling teeth.

Mog had a girlfriend called Molulu in 6. And they didn't refer to him as s/he. Eiko's Mog was a girl.

14 is an MMO, 15's not released yet and to get a good ending in Type 0 you need to play through it twice...am I missing something?

Presumably XIII, XIII-2 and Lightning returns.

The path to that Good End was a long torturous journey.

Honestly, I consider those part of the same storyline, just split up and dragged out to fit that particular teams "Vision". A vision which subsequent games appear to be fleeing from with all haste.

Square rode that number until the wheels fell off. That's a holding pattern when you consider if they just cut it off at 13 it would have been good, but they had to retroactively ruin it. And even then that ending was more bittersweet since Mog and all traces of magic ended up having to remain in the old world.

My brother loves the full FF13 storyline, and yet he gives me crap about the plots to some of my anime. It boggles the mind, really.

Any thoughts on the teasers for the new Star Ocean?
Loved the first three, couldn't stand the Fourth.
Think they'll focus on the game mechanics this time around?

Just looked at Angry Joe playing FFX Pt 2, and his summoning Ramuh for the first time:

EDIT: Can't seem to get it to start where I want it to. It's at 31:40 point when it starts.

Finally got around to finishing FF Type Zero for the first time.

Kind of trippy ending. It had the potential to be a serious gut punch - but the badly explained story turned what should have been a great ending into a merely okay one.

Apparently a second playthrough would clear up alot of the missing loose ends- but frankly I'm not in the mood for it at the moment. Still have the final chapter of Tales of Graces f to play, and I recently got my hands on FF X HD for the PS4 earlier too.

In a couple of months I'll probably play it again. Come at it fresh and possibly with a guide to hand for the side-missions for that 100% completion.

Oh, and while its still somewhat fresh in my memory - Alexander is fucking awesome in this game.

If there is ome thing this game makes abundantly clear its that Eidolans and L'Cie are fucking badass.

EDIT: I think one of the problems with both Type 0 and the FFXIII games as well, is that much of the lore is merely alluded to. Sure, its all there in black and white in the in game Data archieves.

But most players don't realize that - and even if they do, they don't particularly feel like spending a couple of hours reading up on confusing backstory.

Its great having all this deep backstory - but they really needed to simplfy it while including it into the games narrative.

So yeah, they should have had the simple version in the games narration while keeping the more in depth version in the Data Archieves.
