Some of you may remember me ranting about an Evangelion/SRWOG xover I was working on.

The original project was dropped, because recently I've started considering a much more interesting idea.

Namely: what if aliens interfered in a typical SRW scenario - and killed most of the good and bad guys, forcing what was left to team up just to survive and stay free, never mind their personal agenda?

Ideally, I was thinking about the Inspectors from the Zuvorg Alliance taking the Earth threat a lot more seriously, launching a crushing, decisive attack right off the bat instead of wasting time being condescending and getting whittled down. As a result, both the DC and Londobell get decimated, and only manage to get away because one of the Inspectors (namely Mekiboz) starts having misgivings and defects to their side, covering their retreat long enough for everyone to move off to a far location that gives time to regroup.

As a result, Earth is lost to invading forces, as well as most aces on both sides. However, the Inspectors lost a considerable chunk of forces between the battles and the moment when Mekiboz defected and used his Graterkin to nuke a good part of the pursuing fodder grunts. While the playing field is by no means even, it's staggeringly in the Zuvorg's favor.

That's when the Zuvorg start making a series of stupid mistakes. Like growing complacent and forgetting that a cornered rat always fights fiercest. With their forces reduced to a fraction of what they originally were, the DC and Londobell actually set their differences aside, and decide to unite in a common front - because regardless of what their plans were, they both had one common goal: to kick the invaders out of their home planet. What to do with the planet, at that moment, was secondary. First, the common enemy had to go.

Thus, this reality's Neo Divine Crusaders were born.

And with this begins a Super Robot War unlike any other. Friends and foes, united in defeat, form a common front against an overwhelming foe. All they bring in the battle is reduced forces and their limitless courage and bravery.

But sometimes, courage and bravery make all the difference...

----

For reference, this is a selection from which I'll choose the tentative cast I plan on using. Anyone not mentioned here should be considered dead or incapacitated.

MACROSS
-Maximillian Jenius
-Millia Jenius
-Emilia Jenius
-Mylene Jenius
-Alto Saotome
-Klan Klein
-Mikhail Blanc

...yeah, a long list, but I'm not going to use them ALL.

Also, a few notes regarding the mecha and general rivalries:

-There are three battleships available - Daitetsu and Lefina's Hiryu Custom, Henken's Near Argama, and Haman's Gwadann. Haman also usually pilots her Qubeley, but has been working on repairing and retooling the late Amuro's Hi-Nu Gundam after he was slain while covering her troops's retreat.
-The Turn A and Turn X were both destroyed in battle.
-Michiru Saotome pilots Getta-3.
-Boss no longer uses the Boss Borot, instead having been given Mazinger Z. Kouji pilots Great Mazinger.
-Maria Fleed pilots the Grendizer after Duke was mortally wounded in battle.
-The Wing pilots were killed, but two of the Gundams were salvaged - the Sandrock Kai and the Wing Zero, whom are respectively piloted by Noin and Zechs. Treize uses the Epyon.
-Lalah Sune pilots the late Char's Sazabi, while Elpe Puru and Puru-2 dual pilot the Quin Mantha. Roux pilots the ZZ Gundam, though its full armor was damaged beyond repair, so it's stuck in normal armor form.
-Yazan, Jerid, Kacrikon and Lila are all in undecided MP Mobile Suits, and generally act as a team.
-Sarah pilots the late Scirocco's The O. Recoa now pilots the Zeta Gundam.
-Bernie has taken over the late Chris McKenzie's Alex. He also has a personal vendetta against Agirha of the Inspectors, who was responsible for Chris's death.
-Ryusei, Latouni and Seolla are the new SRX team. Kusuha pilots the Grungust Type-0 that belonged to the late Sanger Zonvolt. Katina Tarask has taken over the Alt Eisen, but the Weiss Ritter is currently pilot-less.
-Ramba Ral and Anavel Gato both pilot Neue Ziel mobile armors. They are, along with Dozle's Big Zam and the Purus' Quin Mantha, the only remaining Mobile Armors in the NDC.

Well. Comments?

Everything was alright until this:

Recoa now pilots the Zeta Gundam
Why? Stupid bitch should die. The Z should be piloted by a more competent pilot.

I detect Recoa hate here. :p Besides, this isn't the FINAL cast. I have to choose from it because I just can't handle this many characters.

Doesnt the SRW need another Psychodriver? I doubt Ryuusei is enough to power up the SRX completly. So how about you add another Original and move Seolla to the Weiss Ritter or the R-Gun

Other than that, it sounds like a good idea.

Remember that Kushua is a Psychodriver, though I doubt she ever got as powerful as Aya or Mai for the SRX. Looks like she'll have to take a crash course to get R-3 working. I kinda doubt that you're going to have Tasuku get out of his Giganscudo just to co-pilot SRX. Especially when he's got a love interest to avenge.

Hey GH, how much of an overkill did the inspectors needed to actually kill/incapacitate Kyosuke Nanbu?
I mean considering he a badass who pretty much survived 3 sure death situation and survived. ( the shuttle incident, the prototype failure and when the original alt fell into pieces.)

And what happened to RyuKoOh and KoRyuOh? Did it exist in this timeline of yours?

I was thinking of just adding another Original Psychodriver to the Cast, like Ryoto, Yuuki or Rio. (For some reason Ryoto in the R-3 appeals to me). Kukusha should reamain with the Type 0 (in memory of Bullets swordmanship).

Or you can use any Newtype from Gundam... they should work, in theory.

Also, having the SRX scapped due to funds and giving Ryuusei the Prototype ART-01 or the R-Blade Kai from Alpha 3 can also be done.

GH, this is an incredible idea. Just . . . whoa. 80% of the aces and main characters are dead. I've never seen SRW try and pull that kind of grimdark.

As you say, you definitely need to parse the character list down a little more - there's a lot of characters in that OP. I imagine the biggest difficulty would be reducing the list while retaining enough powerful characters and mechs to challenge the Zuvorg.

If Amuro had the Hi-Nu, then surely Char should have fielded Nightingale? Also, Zeta in the hands of anyone but Kamille is something that causes me great butthurt.

Those queries aside, it looks awesome. Presumably they've retreated somewhere to gather their resources and repair the mechs and fleet. So, Moon Cradle? Opening a wormhole with Granzon? Reverse Summon to La Gias?

The cradles make good fortresses, but using them is a gamble with humanity's future viability. The best option, to my mind, would be to go and hide out in La Gias.

Presuming they don't all get killed for daring to breathe the same air as Shu <s>and not all of La Gias' inhabitants can be as hot blooded as Masaki, amirite?</s> then they've got a bolt hole that no-one else knows about, let alone can access. That gives them time to repair their mechs, resupply their ships and get the pilots up to speed in their hand-me-downs, band-aid the wounded psyche of the pilots and crew, etc.

So, yeah. Lots of awesome angles for you to play with.

Tasuku has the Giganscudo Duro, to be specific. I had forgotten Kusuha is a Psychodriver too. And yeah, a Newtype might work.

Consider the Inspectors fielded all their leader units AT ONCE (Dikastes, Graterkin, Silverwind, Gargau and Durkin), I'd say they had more than enough overkill to explain why so many aces were shot down. :snigger:

And what happened to RyuKoOh and KoRyuOh? Did it exist in this timeline of yours?
Nope.

As you say, you definitely need to parse the character list down a little more - there's a lot of characters in that OP. I imagine the biggest difficulty would be reducing the list while retaining enough powerful characters and mechs to challenge the Zuvorg.
Yeah, that's my problem at the moment. I need a manageable cast that's still powerful enough to turn the tides if DC and Londobell join forces. Any ideas as to who to keep?

If Amuro had the Hi-Nu, then surely Char should have fielded Nightingale?
He did, but the Nightingale was scrapped beyond salvage when Char was killed.

Also, Zeta in the hands of anyone but Kamille is something that causes me great butthurt.
Eh, the choices for Zeta are pretty much either Recoa, Jerid or Roux (who canonically had it in ZZ). Anyone else makes a lot less sense. :huh.:

Presumably they've retreated somewhere to gather their resources and repair the mechs and fleet. So, Moon Cradle? Opening a wormhole with Granzon? Reverse Summon to La Gias?
I was thinking either Moon Cradle or La Gias, pretty much. It is theoretically possible to move a space colony out of the way, but it's very impractical. Besides that? Mars might be viable, since they have Mobile Suits, but it's too close for comfort.

La Gias is what I'm inclined towards, and also gives a neat excuse for adding Masaki and co. to their ranks. Although there's no doubt in my mind that given time, the Inspectors would find a way there as well...

That said, grimdark!SRW is an idea that has tempted me for a good while now. So yeah, this idea has a lot of awesome angles to play up. But first, I NEED to decide the cast. Not much I can do if the cast's so large it makes my head go boom. I could axe one of the minor series entirely (ie, Macross or Turn A), and that'd already free some space up. Cutting down on UC characters is still a necessity. I'm also tempted to replace G Gundam with another series, but have no idea which one atm...

Right. Well, Loran and Gym, without either Turn, aren't that impressive. Sure, they're good, and Gym is probably the better pilot of the two, but the h4x nanomachine Gundams have a lot to do with it - and SRW is bursting at the seams with elite pilots.

No Turn means there's little reason for either pilot. Ditching them is an option, as is keeping one of them and one of the Turns. Both with Turns might be stretching credulity - it's hard to imagine them losing, with those. So you can either lower the head count, or you can use them to bolster grimdark!Londo's forces.

That aside, Turn, G, Getter and Mazinger all bring a lot of backstory to the table. Two different flavours of post-apocalypse, ancient dinosaur men and some science fags making Supers in a garage in Tokyo. You could probably ditch G without losing much, and keep either Getter or Mazinger. Frankly, SRW has beaten that horse so much that the skeleton is a fine powder. Some of the Supers getting raped might underline how fucking serious the situation is, too.

As for UC, I'd suggest picking a specific area of the timeline and being ruthless about it. So, Zeta into ZZ, with mobile suit development being accelerated by the Zuvorg showing up - explaining CCA mechs being in Zeta without CCA necessarily having happened. You could also be reeeeally strict about UC characters. Two linked to Char, two linked to Amuro, two linked to Scirocco? Lalah counting for both Char and Amuro, if you really want to be strict.

Macross should probably be sidelined, for much the same reason as UC needs limiting - the backstory and character roster is too big.

That's my two cents on the cast, anyway.

As for Zeta, if it's still around, Kamille should be alive. His biosensor h4x practically guarantees it. If he's dead, Zeta should probably have gone down with him - no-one else can use it as well as him, anyway, so you'd have an extra space in your roster for something unusual or more powerful.

Edit: Holy fuck, tl;dr.

If you're going to keep a single pilot from Macross, let it be Maximilian. The idea of a real motherfucking ace pilot that's lost his entire family in this war just makes me smile. Think of how pissed he's going to be at the Inspectors, and the righteous fury being dealt with a Veritech fighter. Getting him to pilot the Weissritter could also work.

Personally, I'm more amused at Ryusei's response to the Inspector's assault. Losing his partners in the SRX team is bound to inspire wrath of some sort.

Hm. Well, I'll ditch Macross, Turn A and G Gundam completely. That leaves Seed Astray and UC Gundam, which still needs severe pruning, given the mass amount of characters in it, as well as the Super Robot series.

I might also ditch Grendizer in favor of either Brave Raideen or Koutetsu Jeeg, and replace Getter Robo with GaoGaiGar - the Getter team getting nuked definitely counts as a 'this can only get worse' moment.

I might also ditch Wing in favor of Full Metal Panic...

Also, the villains lineup. As you can imagine, there are some familiar faces besides the Zuvorg...

ZUVORG ALLIANCE:
-Wendolo (Dikastes)
-Agirha (Silverwind)
-Vigaj (Gargau)
-Silkalog (Durkin)
-Bask Om (Dogosse Giar)
-Luozorl Zoran Loiel (Nagzadd/Shin Nagzadd)

-Count Blocken
-Archduke Gorgon
-Dragonosaurus
-Negative Mazinger
-Septuagint
-Various MP units from all mecha series involved, all piloted either by Bioroids or AIs

*Rosamia has been brainwashed, as opposed to surrendering. She's a potential 'rescue' from the Zuvorg - what SRW would this be without persuasion chances? :p

EDIT: Some of you may find it odd that of Dr. Hell's former forces, only Ankoku Daishogun defected to the NDC. It actually makes sense - the Great General is extremely proud and hates losing, and he's in it solely for the chance of getting back at the Zuvorg for the humiliating defeat he suffered at their hands.

I see you added Great Zeorymer. My only concern is, how the hell the Londo Bell lost with GZ on their side? Unless Masaki (Masato) decided to just fuck with all his allies, I just can see them losing.

And my recommendation is to cut some UC stuff. There are too many characters. I don't see how useful could be to have people like Kakrikon, Lila, Kai, Reccoa and Glemy.

As for the villian list, since you have Bask supporting the Zuvorg, why not add Shapiro Keats and Paptimus Scirocco on their side, just like in F Final and Alpha? Also, Gauron being with the good guys is just wrong.

You could add Eva into the story without many difficulties. Remember that in F Final, the Angels are bio-weapons developed by the Zuvorg.

This isn't a final cast list, it is still a list of possible choices. I may or may not have Zeorymer in the final 'product', but if I do, Masato will start with the basic Zeorymer, which, while powerful, isn't stompbroken like the Great.

And my recommendation is to cut some UC stuff. There are too many characters. I don't see how useful could be to have people like Kakrikon, Lila, Kai, Reccoa and Glemy.
I intend to cut UC stuff, all right, but the point of this fic is that the Zuvorg's opening attack was BRUTAL, and the high profile aces were almost all killed. This only leaves the few aces who got away, as well as the mid and low level pilots. As a result, the NDC needs anyone it can get their hands on.

In short: I plan to give minor characters a chance to shine.

I won't keep them ALL, but I intend to keep a good number of low profile characters.

As for the villian list, since you have Bask supporting the Zuvorg, why not add Shapiro Keats and Paptimus Scirocco on their side, just like in F Final and Alpha? Also, Gauron being with the good guys is just wrong.
Scirocco fell victim to the Inspectors' current 'shoot first, don't bother with questions' policy before he could play collaboration shenanigans, and Keats is MIA and likely injured. I might still use the latter, though. The villain list is by no means complete either.

As for Gauron... Necessity makes for strange bedfellows - I mean, come on, the NDC have YAZAN GABLE. Nuff said. Besides, he wants to be the one to kill Sousuke, and it doesn't sit well with him that anyone else could lolpwn him before he does. He's helping strictly out of self interest, and nobody believes even for a minute that he is trustworthy, but as long as he's willing to help, they aren't complaining. :snigger:

You could add Eva into the story without many difficulties. Remember that in F Final, the Angels are bio-weapons developed by the Zuvorg.
Good point. *ponders*

Let's see, I need to grind the axe and cut someone... :sisi:

Another solution could be to develop your mainline, then add one shots dealing with the minor characters from time to time. I'd like to see what could a food fight degenerate into with people like Gauron and Scirroco put in the middle, when they both know they can't kill the stupids.

Revamping an old idea of mine...

All right, I recently found a job, so I'm not sure how fast I will be in updating this, but just wanted to let you know that I DID make progress, despite being obviously busier than I have been so far.

I have decided to actually involve a specially created location and a couple OCs as plot devices to get the plot going - it isn't La Gias, but it will make for a decent way of having both a stable base and some time to regroup.

The La Gias denizens will still be involved in the mess. Also, I completed the list of characters, mecha and battleships for both the good and bad guys, as well as completing a rough outline of how the whole mess starts.

First, the list of factions, characters and relative mecha/ships.

NEO-DIVINE CRUSADERS

This faction is what is born from the combined remnants of Londo Bell, Titans, Axis and DC. The name was chosen because this group of men, women and even children chose to set aside their differences and fight as one for Earth, and the human race's divine right to exist. No longer interested in conquest, at least for the time being, their new goal is to drive back the alien invaders and patiently rebuild the human race's former glory from what is left after the aliens swept over Earth.

ZUVORG ALLIANCE

A group of aliens who believe the human race needs to be culled as soon as possible, for they believe that nothing but strife will come from allowing humans to expand to the stars. Ironically, their brutal suppression methods are probably worse than anything humans can do, but then again, such details never stopped well intentioned extremists...
The Zuvorg have less ace pilots than the Neo DC, but those few they have are tremendously skilled, and in addition they can field an enormous amount of AI-controlled units - including Super Robots and Machinebeasts among others - as well as grunt units. Additionally, they managed to replicate a large amount of Earth units and mass-produce most of them, and have very powerful unique units.

MEKANOS

The 'third force' in the conflict. Mekanos, the Planet At The Edge Of The Void. An artificial globe roughly the size of Earth, with limited ability to support live, although that is slowly waning as no organic beings besides plants and microlife have existed on its surface for thousands of years now.
Its inhabitants are an extremely advanced race of sentient machines, but their programming prevents them from interfering with events, as they were meant to be observers of the Universe. Their interference in the Earth/Zuvorg conflict is highly irregular, and brought about solely by their strange fascination with Earth civilization, to the point of taking on names from things, places and even characters from everyday life, popular culture and myths.
Mekanos possesses a technology called Skygate, which lets their ships, space fortresses and drones cross enormous distances to and from any system with at least one beacon drone in it. The Sol system has one such beacon drone, and was being monitored, which was fortunate for the NDC, as it allowed Mekanos to pull their forces to safety. However, the assistance Mekanos has been willing to provide is very limited... for their rigid programming can only be circumvented to a certain point.

INTERLOPERS

A group of apparently unaffiliated individuals who seem to randomly show up and interfere in the conflict. Their aims are unclear at the moment. Why do they attack both sides without apparent reason...?

==Members and Mecha==

-Shuu Shirakawa (Granzon)
-Saphine Grace (Wizoll)
-Ingram Prisken (Astranagant)
-Shapiro Keats (Bairava)
-Jerid Messa (Jinou)
-Gyunei Guss (Gildora)

And that's it for the cast. More details later...

Nice, I like this list. Now you only need to have Baron Ashura in his/her Shin Mazinger version, so he can be on the same league as Alberto the Shockwave and Master Asia, ripping robots apart with their bare hands.

Doesn't Karozzo already fit the bill? He rips apart Cecily's mech and basically hurls her in space bare handed. Oh, and he was taking a casual walk in space in his CIVILIAN CLOTHES.

I'm not even sure he's human at all...

GH. I fucking love you, man.

This fic . . . I have no words. But it's got that SRW feel to it, and the kind of dark not-everyone-be-coming-home atmosphere that reminds me of Zeta at its most bleak and angsty. Or off-screen OYW. <s>Oh, Australia? Sorry guy, we just dropped a colony full of dead people on it. Our bad.</s>

And that's just the implied fucking backstory. Oughta start calling you Gihrenocide Heart.

Well, the original Zeta was plenty bleak and angsty, given the LOLBADEND Kamille got. And everyone else, for that matter.

ZZ was several steps up...

Some more details, regarding two mecha not everyone may be familiar with. Both have non-SRW origins, so I adapted their origin to this fic.

----

MRX-011 PSYCO GUNDAM MARK III

After Rosamia Badam is rescued from her brainwashing and defects to the NDC, her Psyco Gundam Mark II is handed over to Rianobed's Mekanoid denizens for study. The Psyco Gundam Mark III is those studies' result.

Outfitted with a Psycommu-X system which does not deteriorate the users' mind like the normal Psyco Gundam does and increases concentration and focus in the pilot, it is first assigned to Lalah Sune, but as the war goes on, several other pilots including Quess Paraya and Rosamia Badam herself use it to great effect.

Its standard armament consists of twin wrist-mounted beam swords, a pair of back-mounted tribarrel beam guns at head level, six shoulder-mounted pulse beam guns, four beam guns centered in its upper body, ten scattering mega particle guns distributed across its body height, and eight torso-mounted highmega launchers, allowing it to level an absolutely frightening amount of firepower at the enemy.

The Psyco Mark III is also smaller than other Psyco Gundams, being about the same size as a Quin Mantha. This gives it a noticeable agility advantage over earlier versions, making it one of the deadliest machines in the NDC's arsenal.

XHA-001 VR-JAGUARANDI

Z-Gradt System form

This unique unit is the result of Mekanoid technology mixed with Karozzo's neo-psycommu system. While it is classified as a Mobile Armor, it is actually a prototype of a new unit class called Virtuaroid (VR), which can be controlled fully through brainwave patterns. Technically, units of this type could be fully remote-controlled, much like funnels, and should the technology be perfected, they could greatly reduce human casualties in wartime.

Designed for use by Kamille Bidan following his crippling injuries during the initial Zuvorg assault, it is outfitted with a lifesupport system capable of keeping the pilot alive through anything short of multiple simultaneous organ failure and/or cerebral death, up to and including limited vacuum exposure.

In addition to the lifesupport system, the Jaguarandi is also outfitted with the heaviest armament short of a full-on Super Robot in the entire NDC, boasting a wrist-mounted giga beam saber, an auto-tracking mega bazooka launcher, twin shoulder-mounted microfusion grenade launchers, twelve Funnel Bits housed in the rear skirt armor (mounting beam guns, power rated at 24.2 MW) and the Z-Gradt System, which allows it to transform into a huge highmega buster launcher and redirect all system power to offense, giving it enough power to wipe out entire sections of space in a single shot.

However, it also has drawbacks. The most immediate one is that Kamille cannot leave the unit once he's in - the moment he's unhooked from lifesupport, he risks his body shutting down on him at any moment due to the wounds sustained in the first battles. Therefore, the cockpit lacks an eject system, which means if the Jaguarandi goes down, so does Kamille, one way or the other.

The second issue is the Jaguarandi's immense size. Larger than almost any other unit in the Neo DC, it is not what some would call the most agile of units. However, it does also boast the most impressive armor and electronic protections in the whole fleet.

The third, and most serious, problem is that the Z-Gradt system is life-threatening. Since it redirects all but lifesupport power to the main gun, it is literally a do-or-die proposition, as all defenses are shut down. Additionally, it causes enormous amounts of heat, which make maintaining the System up indefinitely suicidal at best, as the heat will eventually fry the pilot inside.

It should be noted that the Jaguarandi has a semi-sentient AI installed, due to its Mekanoid origins. With time, it may evolve into full sentience, a potential which causes the other Mekanoids in the NDC as well as Kamille himself to treat it with great care. Only time will tell whether it can achieve sentience or not.

Later, some background story and the Chapter 1 plot outline, then it's actual fic writing time!

<s>Psyco Mk III came out of nowhere! Nowhere! And what the fuck is Ulube doing piloting it!? Holy fuck, it won't stagger! Oh shi-</s>

Sorry, GBA2 flashback. I like what you've done with this Psyco Gundam. Making it smaller and altering it's weapon load for different beams located at different areas of the suit makes it more versatile, while keeping it an utterly monstous weapon.

Jaguarandi . . . well, I know almost nothing about Virtual On, but it seems like a pretty powerful MA. It reminds me of The O, actually, although it's one that's optimized for powerful beam spam. And, given that it's a life-support as much as a weapons platform, equipping it with Super-level armor for tanking just makes sense.

That said, given just who's hooked up to it, it could probably do with some Funnels and mirror bits, so Kamille can set up beam ricochets and trap enemies in a variable firing line. There seems to be plenty of space on the back end of the MA to set up shoulder racks or a tail binder, or both.

As always, I'm duly impressed with your mecha knowledge.

You have got a good point with funnels. The Alpha Aziel has Funnel Bits in its back end, after all. Might borrow that for the Jaguarandi...
