An Anakin Skywalker fic that ISN'T incredibly angsty or "romantic"? DO WANT!
I recommend <a href='http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5026493/1/Masquerade' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>Masquerade.</a> Return of the Jedi ended differently. VERY differently. Palpatine survived. Vader did not. Luke is captured. And a mystery man wakes up. No name, no life, now dead in two lives. Seriously, I think you should read this. Vader is hilariously sarcastic and biting in his wit, and he is AWESOME.

I read one once where Dooku and Qui-Gon found him while he was around ten and killed Plagueis. Palps ended up raised by the Order, and given the name Ulic after Ulic Qel Droma, because no one knew what his actual name was and he wasn't sharing. Qui-Gon was his master, but Dooku was much more supportive because Dooku. Qui-Gon was a lot more leery of the whole "raised by the Sith" thing.
Eventually, he sorta ended up acknowledging that the Jedi way had power that the Sith did not, but contrariwise so did the Sith way. Yoda ended up dying on Korriban after going in with him on a whole Vision Quest. It was fairly heavily intimated that the boy might end up a Sith in name, but would probably be closer to a Je'daii than anyone in the last few thousand years.
Eventually, he sorta ended up acknowledging that the Jedi way had power that the Sith did not, but contrariwise so did the Sith way. Eh, it's a thing that came about around the end of the old EU. The Je'daii were the precursors to modern force wielders. They were founded in the Tython System, and existed their in a state of balance between Light and Dark for somewhere on the order of fourteen thousand years. Their entire philosophy was somewhat anathema to their successor orders, as it said that too much of either side of the Force was a bad thing. If you drew too heavily from the Light or the Dark you got sent off to a hermitage to one of Tython's moons, Ashla and Bogan.
Their order ended when Tython was discovered by the Rakatan Infinite Empire and the Force Wars of Tython began. The Rakatas extreme exploitation of the Dark Side and the abuses it lead on both sides scarred the Je'daii so much that it caused them to turn away from the Dark Side completely and largely dissolve as an order.
They were succeeded by the Jedi, which was, itself, founded by former Je'daii.
