There's also a Super-class Star Destroyer, intermediate between the Imperial-class, and the Executor-class.

Not officially, that was a misnomer for the Executor-Class SSD. There are two SSD classes the Executor and the Eclipse. Both are on occasion simply called Super Star Destroyers, as Imperial and Victory class are occasionally referred to just as Star Destroyers.

The Executor was the first of the Executor class ships (Well tied with the Lusankya). For a while it was simply the Super Star Destroyer. Also the last Executor class SSD was the Knighthammer.

IIRC, the phrase 'super star destroyer' was a dodge by the Imperial Navy to get funding for the Executor-class (they also fudged the length, thus the ongoing debate on how large it really was). The senate, before they were dissolved, thought that they were buying something one step larger than an ISD.

the story behind the fudge is really funny. WEG created the first Star Wars rpg. When doing up the stats and info on the Executor they misheard or misread what was writen about it. The model is 11 times as long as a normal star deastroyer model , star destroyers are 1 mile long.... anyhow the info stated the Executor had 5 times the firepower of a stock Star Destroyer. So WEG pegged the length at 5 miles or 8 km.

Also Supper Star Destroyer is what Ackbar called it, Han refered to it as a command ship. So I was just wondering what it technically was.

scary thought is how many could have been built. Remeber cost wouldn`t matter because the building of an Executor pales to the cost of building a freaking 500mile wide battlestation , in secret, and having to transport all materials too the site. No one knew the DS2 was being built till Palpatine had the info leaked.

Course origionally Star Destroyers were 2 man fighters. The Tantive 4 was going to be the Mellinium Falcon till George was inspired by an olive set beside a hamburger. And Alderaan was where Leia was being held prisoner.

One thing I've never understood with regards to Sci-Fi, as applies to all of it not just SW, is the uberwanking of "Bio-"whatevers.

Whenever the writers of such bring in a bio-tech race they seem to go nuts. Hell the benefit, from a logical standpoint, of bio-stuff is its adaptability,, not its strength or whatever they portray. An example of what I mean is that a human hand can grasp something, twist something open, lift, pull etc but it doesn't do any of this as well as a purpose designed tool, like for example a spanner. With the spanner you can open or tighten any nut around that it is sized for but thats it. Specialized!! Whereas the human hand can do that as well as any other number of jobs BUT it can't deal with a nut as effieiently as the spanner.

Ergo specialised TECH is better for a dedicated purpose than non-spec, generalist BIO.

Hell, I have yet to see an animals hide (skin, etc) shrug off a round as well as armour plate can,

Just a personal peeve.
