Shadow Prince
Chapter One: Memories
ôLong Ago civilization bloomed throughout our solar system with many cultures rising on each planet and even upon the single Moon of the Planet Earth. Magic flourished turning the desolate and uninhabitable worlds into the environments of choice for each Kingdom, yet Earth was a Planet that lived on its own in perfect balance with the three universal constants of Good, Evil, and Neutrality giving equilibrium to Nature that provided for itÆs people. A bitter conflict was once waged between the Kingdom of the Moon and an enemy only known as the ôDark Kingdomö all that is recalled about this conflict is the waking of the Energy that made up the Evil of EarthÆs Balance but in the end this negative power and all touched by it were sealed away. The Planets of the Solar System with the exception of Earth allied with the Moon Kingdom in the Silver Alliance that would lead to a period of Peace Known as the Silver Millennium . . . . . . A Peace shared by even the Earth but like all things it was not to last and its end would be come from the best of intentions lamented by a motherÆs screams . . . . . . . And So our Story Begins.ö
He was Cold . . . . .
A pair of cobalt blue eyes opens to a world of yellow-orange liquid that seemed to have turned a dirty pink in the darkened confines as a young man of fourteen lifted his head revealing a pair of odd white clips nestled in his dark brown hair. A hum of power and machinery working at its lowest possible levels filled his ears sounding like electricity running through a power line. The teenager was dressed in a skin tight purple bodysuit with the chest and shoulders being white and baring a black æ01Æ in the center. He simply sat there quiet for a moment before he suddenly began to panic his body thrashing about causing bubbles to form in the liquid as it was disturbed.
ôThe water is getting is getting cloudy. The purification system is breaking down!ö the boy spoke fearfully slamming his eyes shut and bringing his hands to his mouth.
ôIt smells in here, blood it smells like blood!ö the boy yelled his panic seeming to grow as he reached up pounding on the top of his prison trying to get the latch open but it remained locked against his attempts.
ôLet me out . . . . . please someone tell me whatÆs going on . . .. . . . Why canÆt I get this lock open? . . . . . . Misato, Ritsuko, Asuka, Ayanami . . . . . . Father . . . . . . Please someone help me.ö He spoke banging on the solid canopy with his fists yelling but slowly he seemed to drain of his energy and just slump forward in his seat.
The sound of a rolling train passing a crossing and then just the sound of a train rolling along the tracks filled the boyÆs ears and he found himself sitting on a train staring at a sky of red outside the window dressed in a short-sleeved dress shirt and dark slacks. Some sat across the boy their body wreathed in shadows and darkness preventing anyone from seeing who the person was, though their body seemed to be the seize of a young child of maybe four years old.
ôUh, whoÆs that?ö he asked himself.
ôWhoö
ôWho, Shinji Ikariö a calm voice matching the boyÆs replied seeming to come from the hidden child before him.
ôThatÆs . . . . . ThatÆs me.ö
ôI am you, this self incorporates another self, and this self has always been composed of two selves.ö
ôTwo?ö
ôYes, the self that is observed here in this place and time, and the self that once was observed here but faded away. The Shinji Ikari that you are now and the Shinji Ikari that you were but have forgotten how to be, both are true Shinji IkariÆs but you fear the Shinji Ikari that you cannot see or recall ever being.ö
ôIÆm just afraid of being hated.ö
ôYou are afraid of being used and hurt again by those you believe you can trust.ö
ôUm, but who is bad?ö
ôFather is bad, the father that used us before wanting to turn us into a weapon, the father that hated us because we were not strong enough to serve his intentions, the father that forced us to change in hopes of making us his weapon, and the father that deserted us.ö
ôNo IÆm bad.ö
ôThere you go again your always apologizing, do you really think that itÆs your fault?ö the accusatory voice of a girl filled ShinjiÆs ears his minds eye showing him the memory of a red haired girl with blue eyes.
ôIÆm Worthless.ö
ôNo you just believe your worthless Shinji.ö Another female spoke this one revealed by his minds eye to a woman with purple hair.
ôDonÆt you trust your own father.ö A third voice accused after the sound of slap was heard this girl being one with light blue hair and red eyes staring at him.
ôI thought I hated my Father but now I am unsure.ö The boy spoke seeing the form of a man with dark eyes hidden behind sunglasses and hair the same as his own.
ôThat was good work Shinji.ö The manÆs voice complimented.
ôMy Father called me by my name I was praised by my father.ö
ôWill you live the rest of your life regurgitating and re-digesting those few pleasant memories?ö
ôIf I trust their words its enough. . . . . . Enough to keep me alive. . . . .ö
ôEven though you know you are deceiving yourself? Denying the past that you cannot recall?ö
ôEveryone does it thatÆs how everyone survives.ö
ôIf you do not accept that you are capable of initiating change within yourself you will be unable to continue and everything that we had gained or loved will be lost.ö
ôThis world is filled with too much pain and suffering to continue.ö
ôFor example you cannot swim.ö
ôHumans arenÆt made to float.ö
ôThis is self deception.ö
ôI donÆt care what you call it.ö
ôYou have been shutting your eyes and covering your ears making yourself blind and deaf to what you wish to avoid.ö
ôHis sister was injured during the incident.ö A male voice explained even as he saw a tall teenage boy in a track suit glaring at him with gritting teeth.
ôWho cares what the others say.ö The voice of the purple haired woman spoke up her form in shadow.
ôLeave!ö the voice of his father.
ôNo I donÆt want to hear thisö Shinji cried out covering his ears and slamming his eyes shut his body bowing forward towards his knees.
ôSee your running away from the reality again. No one can justify their existence by linking their happiest memories into a kind of rosary. In particular from this point on I cannot.ö The voice seemed to gain an echo in it reverberating in ShinjiÆs ears.
ôWhatÆs wrong with doing what I want?ö
ôWHY WONÆT YOU LEAVE ME ALONE?ö
ôBecause we must remember, time must restart before all is lost. Our Shadow must once more come into being.ö
ôWHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT I DONÆT UNDERSTAND!ö
ôThe enemies now surround us. All of Terra desires our death because of our power.ö
ôWHAT DO YOU MEAN?ö
ôThe Angels come at our call but desire our destruction they have betrayed us in favor of Adam.ö
ôI DONÆT UNDERSTAND YOUÆRE NOT MAKING ANY SENSE.ö
ôMother is calling to us.ö
ôMother . . . . .ö
ôWe are the Shadow.ö
ôThe Shadow . . . . .ö
ôMother became the darkness so we would not be alone.ö
ôFather tried too . . . . . . Tried to destroy me . . . . . No he tried to change me . . . . . She told me to run . . . . . He betrayed me . . . . . I was in such pain but then I felt her arms . . . . . Mother was protecting me. . . . . . . ô
ôShe is still with us . . . . . you must remember.ö
ôRemember.ö
In the endless sea surrounding the Evangelion Unit-01 a pulse of Golden Light pierced the crimson landscape beating like a heart and twinkling like a star . . . . . . Slowly it came closer.

ôOh man, I canÆt believe weÆre stuck here while thereÆs a battle going on back home.ö A teenager dressed in a short-sleeved white button up shirt, dark slacks, and tennis shoes groaned his right hand adjusting a pair of glasses on his face.
ôBeats being stuck in class though.ö replied the boy walking next to the be-speckled youth standing tall at six foot and dressed in a track suit his hands resting behind his head in a leisurely position his dark brown eyes lidded in boredom his black hair cut short.
ôYeah I guess your right, if you hadnÆt let Hikari drag us to a museum!ö the other spoke up in annoyance.
ôWhat was that Mister Aida?ö a voice spoke from in front of the pair coming from a girl with dark brown hair in pigtails and a freckled face. She was dressed in a powder blue uniform dress and cream colored blouse.
ôUh nothing Class Rep reallyö The youth said waving his arms in a pacifying manner.
ôYo Class Rep, why are we spending our day-off like this I say we ditch this art thing and hit the arcades.ö The Taller boy offered giving his buddy an out from the girls glare.
ôSuzahara this isnÆt just some random exhibition itÆs an exclusive showing of work by Yumeno Yumemi one of the greatest artists in all of Japan you should enjoy it.ö The girl explained her form falling into a lecturing pose as she began walking backwards giving her full focus to the pair.
ôSuch a waste of perfectly good day.ö The jock muttered eyes glancing around at some of the girls walking along the streets.
ôHey think on the bright side Toji, girls always flock to these Art things so it isnÆt a total waste.ö The glasses wearing boy spoke taking a video camera from a satchel at his side and started to instantly begin filming.
ôNow you got my attention Kensuke. Hey Class Rep letÆs get it in gear the Art wonÆt wait all day for us!ö the boy called out with enthusiasm speeding up to walk next to the freckled girl.

Sea of Dirac
He was standing alone in a field of flowers the full blooms like a rainbow creating a sea of colors all around him and filling his nose with a myriad of sweet scents. Shinji felt so small right then his body regressed to that of a four year old dressed in pair of white pants with gold vines running up either leg, a white tunic with a golden vine print running up the left side of the chest, and a white cape scaled down for his small size. The sun was shining with a few clouds lazily floating in the sky and the breeze keeping the day from becoming uncomfortable allowing anyone to each the day as they wished.
ôEarth . . . . . .ö
ôNow what are you doing out here Little Prince?ö a male voice spoke from behind Shinji causing him to try and turn around sharply only to have his balance lost and his small frame fall to the ground.
ôYou should be more careful Little Princeö The voice spoke with a baritone chuckle followed by the sound of footsteps
Shinji quickly scrambled to his feet his hands swiping at the dirt and petals that had gotten on his clothes, though his face also bore a healthy bit of red on it from his embarrassment. Raising his head as the footsteps came to a stop the child blinked at the man as he got to one knee and started picking off the petals ShinjiÆs scrubbing hands had missed giving time for the boy to look him over.
The man looked to be in his early twenties and was tall standing at six foot five inches with unruly spiky dark brown hair and eyes the color of blood, though they held no malice for him but they did show quite a bit of mirth. He had a pale face with a hooked nose giving him the appearance of a bird but his frame with thin and lanky with long arms and legs giving him a very thin look to him. The man was dressed in armor consisting of a dark blue chest plate trimmed in white, black arm guards trimmed in white and revealing the black tunic he wore under it, black shin guards trimmed in white and dark blue pants under them, black boots, and a long black cape that was white on the underside.
ôYou shouldnÆt sneak up on him like that Sachielö another voice spoke coming up behind the now identified man.
This new man seemed to be in his twenties as well with dirty blond hair that fell to just below his shoulders and the same blood-red eyes and pale face as Sachiel, though he lacked the height of the man instead standing at six feet three inches. Unlike the other his face resembled that of a snake, yet lacking any of the fear-inducing elements. He was dressed in the same kind of armor as Sachiel though the color scheme was dark brown trimmed in sky blue instead.
ôDonÆt be such a downer Shamsel the Little Prince needs a little excitement in his life.ö Sachiel fired back sticking his tongue out at the man a move Shinji found himself mimicking.
ôSachiel donÆt teach the Prince your disrespectful habits!ö Shamsel yelled waving his arms comically in gestures to stop.
ôThese two are supposed to be two of the All-FatherÆs children and two of your bodyguards Little Prince . . . . . WeÆre all doomed.ö A Third feminine voice stated her arms reaching down from behind and picking the young boy up, who turned to stare at her.
The woman seemed to be a little older then other two approximately twenty five with white hair and crimson eyes and a smile on her pale face as she looked down on Shinji. She had a willowy build to her with thin arms and legs hidden beneath a gray armored battle dress and chest plate trimmed in white. She cooed at the boy, who poked his tongue out at her.
ôAw donÆt you like Armisael anymore my Little Prince?ö she asked her smile widening.
ôOf course I do but you donÆt need to treat me like such a little kid anymore IÆm bigger now.ö The four year old replied trying to seem older then he really was to the girl.
ôOh so youÆre bigger does that mean youÆre too old for us?ö a man spoke up his head poking over the womanÆs shoulder. The man was built like Sachiel only slightly shorter and with a normal nose his hair black and in shorter spikes. He was dressed in the same armor done in a bronze color and trimmed in brown.
ôItÆs good to see you back Israfel is there any news on our other siblings?ö Armisael asked.
ôNo the others are all out on missions for His Majesty, except Tabris he has gone to make sure the All-Father hasnÆt been disturbed by anyone.ö Israfel answered with a sigh.
ôI havenÆt sensed any disturbance in the balance or seen any change in Nature is something wrong?ö Shamsel asked finishing his argument and walking up to them with Sachiel.
ôNo Tabris is just being obsessive there was a slight shift in EarthÆs Magnetic field and he was worried it might awaken Adam. The last thing anyone needs is the Lord of Balance being set off because of Natural phenomena.ö
ôEarth Guardians . . . . .. My protectors when I was small . . . . . . . the Children of Adam . . . . .ö
He was standing in front of a full-length mirror his body having grown to the age of ten his bangs back to the slightly long look he always preferred and was his body was significantly taller. A weigh was present on his left side and when Shinji checked to see what it was he found a scabbard and sheathed short sword attached to his belt. The grip of the sword was wrapped in cloth to allow for easier handling with a simple crossguard baring a single sapphire in the center and a diamond-shaped pommel baring another sapphire on each side reached his right hand to the hilt he slowly drew the sword the weight seemingly non-existent in his hand and the silvery blade seemed to shimmer as the light played of its surface. Giving the weapon a few test swings before sliding it back in itÆs sheath and looking back into the mirror marveling at how much his outfit had changed from one second to the next.
Before his clothing had been innocent in nature tailored for a child, while at the same time being as formal as possible without being too constricting but that time had passed. Shinji was now dressed in black shoes, black pants lacking any sort of design, a white formal shirt with black vine patterns over the chest a single obsidian jewel set into the center of the shirt, and finally a black cape with a silver lining He was still too young and small to be wearing full armor but Father had decided he would at the very least wear a sword so as to not appear completely weak.
Moving away from the mirror he flopped back on a large king-sized bed covered by black sheets and pillows his eyes gazing up at the canopy with a sigh passing between his lips. Glancing around the room his cobalt eyes took in the opulence of his chambers every space immaculate with books and scrolls placed on various shelves or laying on his desk in front of the large arch-shaped windows overlooking a large sprawling garden. A slight bit fo anger seemed to enter his visage for a moment as he stared at the desk before he shook his head and went back to staring at the canopy his thoughts interrupted by a knock at the door.
ôEnterö he mumbled loud enough for whoever was on the other side of his wooden door.
ôYou could try that with a little less feeling.ö A male voice joked as the door opened and the voice itself caused ShinjiÆs head to snap in that direction in surprise.
Standing there in the open doorway leaning against the doorframe with his arms crossed was a young man of about sixteen standing at five foot nine inches with black hair and blue eyes the same piercing shade as ShinjiÆs, in fact the man seemed like an older version of Shinji himself with a smile tugging at his lips. He was dressed in black armor trimmed in white with metal shoulder and his guards a long sword sheathed on his left side, and below the armor he wore all black with a black cape that was red on the underside completing the outfit.
ôGood to see you still recognize me Little Brother.ö
ôBrother . . . . .ö
Shinji stood in the entrance of a large throne room the walls a warm cream color with six white marble pillars on each side an armed guard standing at each one and tapestries hung along the walls with paintings of his ancestors hung with care in other places. Walking forward his cape swished behind him with each step along the long ornate red carpet that led to the Throne dais itself, once he reached the end he went to one knee his head bowed to the person sitting in one of the two thrones.
ôYou wished to see me Father?ö he spoke trying to keep his voice calm despite the anxiety he was feeling.
The man sitting upon the throne appeared to be in his late forties with brown hair and a beard to match his blue eyes a mirror of ShinjiÆs and His BrotherÆs but they held no caring for the boy before him, in fact Shinji could feel them flaring with anger at just the sight of him as if he was some sort of bug to the man. He stood at six feet even with a tan to his skin and a stern look to his face dressed in black armor similar to ShinjiÆs brother but instead of white his was trimmed in gold and bore a completely black cape on both sides beneath it his clothing was as red as blood.
ôZeruel informs me that you have stopped making progress in your physical training and that you are still unable to use even your short sword properly when sparring.ö When he spoke his voice was cold baring just the barest hint of hidden malice that made Shinji wince internally.
ôIÆm sorry Father I will strive to improve but My Magical skills have improved dramatically.ö The boy spoke remaining kneeled as he was hoping to get a little praise from his Parent.
ôI know quite well how your studies in Magic are going but they are not the reason I called you here.ö If anything it seemed his words had the opposite effect on the man making his Father Angry.
ôI apologize for speaking of it then Father.ö
ôYou will devote extra time to your Swordplay until your ability is at least above the dismal display it is now. At your age your older Brother was already a challenge for Zeruel to spar with it seems you are behind him in yet another area.ö
ôYes Father I will try not to disappoint you.ö
ôIt is far too late for that My Son but perhaps there will be some use for you.ö
ôFather . . . . . .ö
The pulsing Golden Light grew in intensity causing visible ripples in the Sea of Dirac . . . . . As if responding to the call of something or someone it moved ever faster towards the stationary Unit-01.

ôI take it back this wasnÆt worth it.ö Toji muttered to Kensuke as they walked through the Yumeno Yumemi art exhibition with Hikari, who had gone ahead to pick out some prints to buy.
ôI donÆt know some of this is pretty good,ö Kensuke replied his camera pointing at one of the paintings.
ôSnap out of it man!ö The Jock joked shaking the military Otaku only to stop as his eyes fell on one particular picture.
ôToji, hey Toji, earth to Toji can you hear me?ö Kensuke called out waving his hand in front of the still teenager.
ôNo wayö he muttered to himself ignorant of his friendÆs worry or Hikari returning with three prints.
ôToji whatÆs wrong man?ö Instead of answering he pointed both teenagersÆ heads following the fingers path.
ôNo wayö Kensuke stated in surprise.
ôIs that Shinji?ö Hikari added in.
The painted was one of a wide open field of flowers with a line of trees running along the right side and the sun shining high in the sky with several puffy white clouds in random positions in a clear blue sky. Two people stood among the flowers the shorter one being a boy of ten years of age with dark brown hair and cobalt blue eyes dressed as if he had stepped out of a fantasy or medieval novel the gentlest of smiles tugging at his lips. Next to the boy stood a woman in a long flowing silver gown with purple hair cut short and brown eyes that seemed to radiate caring she stood just above the child at four feet ten inches her right hand on the boyÆs shoulder in a gesture of support and love, the caption below the painting read ôMother and Son before the Twilightö.
ôItÆs almost an exact likeness if it were a few years older.ö Hikari pointed out after the shock fled her.
ôHey I think I see another one.ö Kensuke pointed out looking around with his camera.

Sea of Dirac
Shinji found himself back on the train staring out the window ahead of him watching the blazing red sky and the slowly sinking sun that painted the small form of human in shadows the same person that had spoken to him before. This time however images were passing through ShinjiÆs mind, memories of a time and place he had never before known of a person he had once been but never recalled being. There was more though he knew something beyond these memories that he wasnÆt seeing, yet he desperately wanted to see as if they carried some truth that might help him make sense of everything.
ôI still donÆt understand . . . . .ö he stated.
ôThis is because you are still blinding yourself a part of you does not wish to see everything.ö
ôWhat do you mean?ö
ôAs long as you only focus on those memories that are Happy or allow you to believe you deserve everything that has happened to you all you will ever see is half the picture.ö
ôWhy canÆt I let go?ö
ôBecause you donÆt want too, as long as you have pleasant memories you can fool yourself into believing your reason to exist is to hear those words again, and as long as you can blame yourself for your pain you donÆt have to feel conflict with those around you.ö
ôWhatÆs so wrong with living that way?ö
ôThere is no living in that way only self deception and self delusion that will lead to self-destruction.ö
ôBut as long as I have a purpose isnÆt that enough?ö
ôAnd when that purpose no longer exists? When you can no loner define yourself by your usefulness to others?ö
ôThen IÆll die.ö
ôDo you truly wish to die?ö
ôI donÆt . . . .. Know anymore . . .. . . . IÆm just so tired . . . . . . Of everything. . . . .ö
ôThen you will die.ö
ôWhat?ö Shinji asked head snapping up from where he had begun to let it drop.
ôIf you cannot find the resolve to change then you will be unable to continue and Shinji Ikari will die.ö
ôHow do I change though all I can ever be is I?ö
ôWe were not always as we are now if you wish to continue you must find the resolve to see the truth in our past and awaken what we once were.ö
ôThereÆs nothing special about me.ö
ôYou are most special my little Shinji.ö A sweet female voice seemed to float into his mind bringing with it the silhouette of a person he could never forget.
ôMother . . . . .ö
ôThe things you will see will change Shinji Ikari forever can you live with knowing the person you once were?ö
ôI donÆt understand any of this!ö
ôDo you wish too?ö
ôYES!ö though Shinji could not see it a smile seemed to spread over the persons lips.
ôThen you are resolved to change too become the Shadow once again and complete this being known as Shinji Ikari.ö
The Golden glow grew brighter the blood-like liquid of the endless Sea of Dirac vibrating from the waves of energy flowing from it . . . . . . The glow slowly wrapped around unit-01 and a Golden six-sided polyhedron shaped like a faceted marquis cut stone flowed from the center of the glow passing through the purple Armor on the head and entering the entry plug . . . . . The stone seemed to radiate light and shined with a rainbow of colors . . . . . .. In the core of its being Leliel the Angel of the Night . . . . . Earth Guardian . . . . . . And Child of Adam . . . . . Quaked in Fear.
He had been sleeping peacefully when he was suddenly awakened by a pair of hands shaking him wildly seemingly in a rush to rouse him, opening his cobalt blue eyes he was greeted by the darkness of his chambers the faint glow of the moon and stars pouring in through his windows and those hands still shaking him. Sitting up he brought his right hand up rubbing at his eyes trying to cleanse the remaining sleep from his body a yawn wa sonly half stifled as he turned to look at his awakener.
She stood at a height of five foot three inches with purple hair and deep caring brown eyes that were filled with fear and panic at this precise moment dressed in a long light blue dress that seemed to sparkle with the majesty of the ocean and a golden tiara was nestled in her hair wrapping around her forehead with three gemstones in the center an emerald, sapphire, and Onyx. She quickly stood up and moved to his door peeking out into the hall before rushing back to him.
ôMother . . . . .ö
ôMother whatÆs wrong?ö he asked noticing the state of his parent and the trembling of her hands.
ôShinji you must hurry we have to get you out of the Palace now before Gendo arrives.ö She whispered low to him moving to his closet and quickly starting to pull an outfit out for him to expedite things.
ôWhatÆs going on Mother whatÆs happened?ö he asked, though also taking the hint and climbing from his bed and quickly beginning to change into the articles of clothing his Mother passed him slipping it onto his fourteen year old frame.
Shinji was dressed in white pants with black trim and silver hip guards, a longsword sheathed in a black ornate scabbard at his side on a black sword belt, a white shirt was worn under a white chest plate trimmed in black baring a black vine pattern, silver shoulder guards, and finally a white cape with black lining encircled him. Even though he now carried a longsword it seemed too big for him his body still having more growing to do despite his age and it seemed he was still unaccustomed to the extra weight of his weapon constantly adjusting his balance.
ôA messenger delivered news from the Moon Kingdom . . . . . Endymion has proposed to Princess Serenity . . . . . . Queen Serenity supports the union herself stating it will finally unite the Moon and the Earth . . . . . . Your Father flew into a Rage when he heard . . . . . . Shinji we must go before he arrives. Your Father is planning to do something drastic IÆm afraid.ö Yui explained observing the stunned look on her younger sons face.
ôIf we can get to Tabris and the other Guardians they will help us.ö Shinji was finally able to say after the chock of his MotherÆs news wore off.
ôThatÆs my hope but thereÆs something more important that we have to get before I get you out of here.ö Yui replied moving to the door and peeking down both sides of the hallway sighing when she saw it was empty.
ôMy Mother . . . . . She was afraid . . . . . . Afraid of Father . . . and what he was about to do . . . . . . If I had known I would have been afraid too . . . but as long as I was with My Mother . . . . . I wasnÆt scared.ö
The pair darted through the still and silent hallways of marble their shoes causing loud resounding tapping noise to fill the night only interrupted by hard breathing whenever the two stopped to peer around a corner. Yui despite her impressive magical skills and incredible mind was simply not a runner her body unprepared for the sprinting she was ordering it to do through the halls. Shinji, while being more physical then his Mother had just been awoken and despite the adrenaline provided by the premise of danger it wasnÆt enough to truly off-set the tiredness in his body, thus he was not performing well at all.
Moving around the corner Shinji suddenly grabbed Yui and pulled her back just as an arrow slammed into the wall where her head had been a mere second ago. Looking down the corridor both caught the sight of a young woman possible in her twenties dressed in dark blue armor trimmed in gold with a matching cape, she had long purple hair and brown eyes that were currently narrowed at them a composite longbow was grasped in her left hand while her right hovered over a quiver of arrows resting on her back a captains insignia on the collar of her armor identified her rank. Shinji quickly stepped in front of his mother staring at the woman acting as human shield if she decided to fire again.
ôMisato. . . . . . ô
ôMisato what are you doing you almost hit My Mother.ö He called out to the woman hoping it had all been an accident.
ôSorry Kiddo but I have orders from the King to detain both of you and escort you to LilithÆs Chamber with force if necessary.ö She responded in a pleasant but stern voice.
ôSo you would attack us just because IÆm trying to protect my son from GendoÆs Insanity?ö Yui spoke stepping out from behind her son.
ôShinji is the only one who can use the Golden Crystal if you take him away you doom all of us, I wonÆt let you take away the last hope for our world!ö Misato replied with conviction her fingers closing around an arrow ready to draw and fire at a moments notice.
ôYou would rather damn him to whatever plot my husband has in store? I know he has sent out both Beryl and Fuyutsuki in preparation for this plan and gone as far as too order the Captain of the Royal Guard to detain both of us. Do you really think that this is all for the good of Earth?ö
ôShinji step away from Queen Yui and come slowly to me I donÆt want to kill her but if I have too in order to protect the future of the Earth I will. You have to accept your duty now as Prince and act in the best interests of your people. Think about it this way Kiddo your Father is doing this to make you stronger then that traitor Endymion so you get to rule and he gets to enjoy life with the enemy.ö The captain spoke ignoring the question posed to her drawing a single arrow and notching it into her bow drawing the bowstring taut prepared to launch a lethal strike at any second.
ôMisato . . . . Tell me why. .. . . . Why it is the Moon is our enemy . . . . . all my life that is what IÆve been told . . . . . To hate the Moon Kingdom and by extension itÆs allies . . . . . But no one has ever told me why? . . . . . . . Tell me why I must hate everything and one else in the solar system . . . . . . Why is it I must hate so blindly? . . . . . . My Brother Endymion . . . . . . Must I hate my own Brother without reason? . . . . . . . Answer me . . .. . . . . ANSWER ME!ö Shinji had been looking down throughout his little speech until the end his head had snapped up his blue eyes blazing with inner fire and his fists clenched at his side. Neither woman could actually respond as they took in the sight of the always shy, introverted, soft-spoken Prince speaking with such force and anger.
ôShinji-kun . . . . . . Earth is a planet that lives and thrives on its own unlike the Moon Kingdom and other worlds that use Magic to create artificial biospheres that turn their worlds into paradises . . . . . . This living world can only exist because of the balance between the three great powers of our world . . . . . . . . Lilith the All-Mother of we Humans, Queen of Light & Life . . . . . . . . Adam the All-Father of the Earth Guardians, and Lord of Balance . . . . . . . And . . . . . . Metallia the All-Mother of the Youma, Queen of Darkness & Death born from the radiation of our Sun . . . . . . . In the beginning we all shared the same blood in our veins being of one race born with the best qualities of all three beings and our world flourished. We controlled great magicÆs that came from our ability to draw from the life-force of Earth itself and when we passed on our bodies fed the earth replenishing the strength we barrowed . . . . . . We lived long-lives blessed with knowledge and mastery of our own souls the gift of the All-Father Adam, we could each be unique having any difference we want because of the All-Mother Lilith, and our power to summon and manipulate the energy we drew from Earth came from Metallia. Earth was truly a planet of Balance. . . . . . And Humans were blessed by Kami with this wondrous worldö Yui spoke starting the story and capturing ShinjiÆs attention.
ôThe other civilizations came then and settled upon the other planets of Sol, even our very moon was occupied but we accepted our new neighbors and gave them our blessing . . . . . . However the Children of the moon with their ideals of justice and pure Light soon began to try and change the kingdom of Earth . . . . . They wished the people to forsake Metallia and the ideals of Balance and embrace their own beliefs. . . . . . During the reign of your grandfather the Queen of the moon Selene even tried to arrange a marriage between your Father and the then Princess Serenity . . . . . . When your grandfather refused Selene believed the Earth had been tainted . . . . . . Corrupted by Metallia and so she and the children of the Moon attacked claiming they had to free the Earth . . . . . . Gendo was only four when they came, the light of their Silver Imperium Crystal blazing as the forces ruthlessly killed anyone in their way. The Earth fought back valiantly drawing on the power of our world and the three celestial beings hoping to push back the invaders . . . . . . It was far too late though they had caught the planet by surprise and too much had been lost too quickly for there to be any form of counter attack . . . . . . Adam himself had fought on the frontlines but in the end Selene sealed him into sleep, if he were to ever awaken from it his rage would blind him until the Earth was cleansed of all life. That is why the Earth Guardians . . . . . . . The seventeen true children of Adam work to make sure he stays asleep for even they would be forced to Obey his call otherwise . .. . . . . ôYui stopped for a moment to take a breath and allow Shinji to digest the information.
ôLilith battled bravely healing the fallen warriors and protecting the innocents from the enemy but no quarter was given even to her and so Selene used a weapon known as the ôHoly Moon Swordö to sever LilithÆs body in two at the waist before binding her to a giant cross . . . . . . . Metallia in her rage possessed GendoÆs Mother your grandmother and transformed from a mass of living energy into a true Queen of darkness to combat Selene . . . . . . She fought with a rage and power never before seen battling the Moon Queen head-to-head and matching her at every turn neither backing down . . . . . . . In the end Metallia guided by your GrandmotherÆs heart had to move in order to protect Gendo and that is when Selene struck with all her might short of sacrificing her very life to the Silver Imperium Crystal . . . . .. . She ripped Metallia from the womanÆs body and locked her away along with those she deemed tainted behind a seal in the far north containing them in suspended animation within a pocket dimension. . . . . . The Light of the Silver Imperium Crystal flowed over our world ripping from us the gifts our people had been granted from Metallia & Adam leaving us as the humans we are today . . . . . . On that day we were also given a gift from the Earth itself that gift was the Golden Crystal a power equal or perhaps greater then the Silver Imperium CrystalÆs, yet before your birth Shinji not even Gendo or Endymion could access more the 5% of itÆs power, while you seem to be the one the crystal accepts the one to Master itÆs power . . . . . . . That is the story behind our hatred of the Moon Shinjiö Yui concluded and both women turned their eyes on the young Prince to observe his reaction.
Shinji stood there with his head lowered, which caused his bangs to shadow his eyes from view both of his fists were clenched in white-knuckled grip on the front o his shirt just below his chest plate where it was exposed. Both women could see a tremble running through his body causing the boy to vibrate as if he were trying to hold some sort of reaction back. Slowly the shaking died down and the young man took a deep breath before looking up at both ladies with a look of pleading filling his cobalt orbs.
ôDoes . . . . . . My Brother . . . .. . . . Does Endymion know . . .. . . . . Did you ever tell him the story?ö he asked his voice small. Yui could only sigh and nod her head.
ôYes . . . . . . We told him right before your birth but he always wanted to make peace with the Moon . . . . . . Endymion didnÆt want to hate the Moon Kingdom thatÆs why he started taking his trips there . . . . . . Then he began to fall for the Moon Princess and the visits grew longer and longer . . . . . No matter how I pleaded or Gendo threatened Endymion wouldnÆt stop. He even wanted to take you with him to show you the universe beyond Earth but I forbade it. Endymion accused me of being a bigot like your father and trying to deny you something wonderful . . . . . . . Now heÆs taken things too far Gendo wonÆt accept this and youÆre his only trump card.ö She explained closing her eyes.
ôI donÆt understandö Shinji remarked.
ôIts simple kiddo your brother commanded the loyalty of the armies of Earth as well as four of our most powerful warriors in his bodyguards thatÆs why the King couldnÆt stop him until now . . . .. . No one is going to allow the Moon to have reign on Earth and if you donÆt step up and prove you can protect the planet then the people would rather dethrone the monarchy by force then allow EndymionÆs betrayal.ö Misato simplified.
ôSo I have no choice . . . . . If I donÆt do what father wants a lot of people are going to get hurt because I wouldnÆt do what was necessary.ö
ôNo there is another option.ö Both Misato and Shinji blinked looking to the EarthÆs Queen who was shaking her head at them.
ôIf we can get to the Golden Crystal and show the people that Shinji wields its power along with the loyalty of AdamÆs children then it should prove he is strong enough to rule Earth . . . . . . Endymion can marry his princess and Shinji can become King, our world stays independent so everyone is happy and no one has to die.ö Yui spoke her right hand holding up a single finger standing in a lecturing pose.
ôOh, so that is what youÆre planning to do, I sort of thought you might just be trying to flee the castle and maybe the planet.ö Misato replied with a nervous laugh lowering her bow and sliding her arrow back into its quiver on her back.
ôI sort of thought the same thing actuallyö Shinji admitted with a guilty look even as Yui sweatdropped at the pair.
ôLetÆs just get going the longer we wait here the more likely forces loyal to Gendo will discover us.ö Yui spoke up rubbing her forehead before moving past the pair, a minute would pass before both Shinji and Misato would chase after her.
ôThe Truth behind our Hatred . . . . . . it was the reason my Father refused to ever ally with the Moon . . . . . But my brother didnÆt want to Hate them so blindly . . . . .I would be damned because of Hatred . . . . . I would become Hatred itself . . . . .I would hate them all . . . .ö
The trio stopped in front of a pair of white marble doors standing twenty-five feet in height baring intricate patterns carved into the stone to resemble a mass of twisting vines or coiling metal, yet at the center where the two doors met each bore half an image of a glowing crystal in the vague shape of a diamond or polyhedron. Yui stepped forward and raised her palm placing it against the door a hum beginning to fill the threeÆs ears as a soft light began to flow from the queenÆs palm and into the winding stone patterns. As quickly as it began the sound and light faded away and a slit of light appeared in the crack, where the two doors met and slowly of their own accord seemingly they began to move backwards with a slight grinding noise as they opened for the three.
The room that was revealed to them was immensely large and two stories with eight marble columns on either side supporting the majority of the second floorÆs weight and polished stone floors that reflected the orange light coming from wall-hung torches. A pulsing Golden light drew their attention to the far side of the room where on a simple dais an ornate podium of stone stood carved with utmost care to resemble the likeness of a woman robed in a billowing dress with long hair her hand supporting the top of the pedestal. Sitting upon or more precisely floating just above the pedestal was a Golden Six-sided Polyhedron slowly turning in place and giving off a warm golden light much like the ray of the sun on a beautiful spring day.
ôMy Golden Crystal . . . . .ö
Before Yui could urge her son forward Shinji had already began to make his way across the room his eyes locked on the floating bauble he was approaching with each second and with two quick steps he had ascended the dais his hands raising to hover on either side of it the crystal halting in itÆs revolutions and seeming to pulse with even greater energy. Lifting hands higher the crystal follow levitating upwards and staying in perfect position between the boyÆs palms, until finally both came to rest above his head ShinjiÆs eyes sliding shut even as he tilted his head back facing the ceiling his features surprisingly tranquil. Suddenly the Golden crystal began to emit a noise similar to the sound of bells being rang, the entire surface of the crystal seemed to glow like a miniature sun with an aura of shifting colors not unlike a rainbow seeming to flare around it, and finally a series fo beams formed from the light blazed from the crystal illuminating Shinji in almost heavenly light his clothing being tussled by an unseen wind as he was bathed in power.
ôBravo . . . . Bravo . . . . . A Most impressive display.ö A voice called out from the doorway causing Shinji to open his eyes and slowly turn his Cobalt Blue gaze falling on the form of his Father flanked on either side by the armored forms of the Royal Guard.
ôGendo, He can control the CrystalÆs power there is no need to take any action now, Please stop whatever your planning before you go too farö Yui addressed her husband with a note of pleading in her voice.
ôI donÆt need a successor Yui, I need a weapon with which I can insure the destruction of the Moon Kingdom once and for all!ö he fired back his fists clenching at his side.
ôYour Majesty, Prince Shinji is the only Heir to the Throne with EndymionÆs Betrayal I beg you to reconsider this.ö Misato interjected unwilling to believe the King was capable of such insanity.
ôCaptain Katsuragi you would do well to keep out of matters that do not concern you or else you might find yourself in a very dangerous situation. Step down and surrender yourself Shinjiö Gendo responded even as he glared at his youngest son.
ôThatÆs all I am to you, someone, no something of use to be made into a weapon . . . . . I have no value as your son?ö
ôYou will not be given he chance to betray me as Endymion has done Boy!ö Misato, Yui and all those gathered watched the back and forth between the Father and Son with rapt attention.
ôIÆM NOT ENDYMION!ö
ôNo, you have made that abundantly clear Shinji but you have all the more reason to turn on me and I will not allow that to happen. I have no use for a whimpering child but as a weapon you will truly protect this world from our enemy.ö
ôI WONÆT LET YOU!ö Shinji declared the Golden crystal releasing a beam of light right at the King of Earth and his guard hurtling the group back with an explosive force on impact.
ôWe better get moving before they recoverö Misato suggested as she overcame the shock from the moment.
ôYouÆre right Gendo wonÆt be caught like that a second time, Shinji come on we have to find the Guardians!ö Yui responded before turning to her son only to find him standing next to her the Golden crystal resting in his right hand.
ôWe Ran . . . . . We Ran right into their traitorous hands . . . . . ô

Tokyo-3
Dr Ritsuko Akagi sighed as she leaned her back against the concrete wall of the temporary command center Nerv had set up to deal with the latest threat caused by the ANGELS her right hand lifting a lit cigarette to her lips and taking a long drag from it letting the smoke flow out fo her mouth and into the night air. Reaching her left hand up she began to rub at her temples, where a headache of epic proportions had began to set in not to long ago and threatened to split her skull in half with each passing moment, dealing with Misato and breaking the news about the plan to deal with the ANGEL hadnÆt helped things at all, in fact her cheek was still throbbing from where her friend and co-worker had slapped her earlier when she had stated that ShinjiÆs life was irrelevant.
ôNo matter how I explain it something about this just seems so wrong to me, like weÆre making the worst possible choice imaginable.ö She muttered turning her eyes towards the moon.
ôIt canÆt be helped IÆm sorry Shinji but your expendable.ö
In another part of the facility a girl with short blue hair, crimson eyes, and pale skin stood with her arms crossed dressed in a skin tight bodysuit colored white with a black 00 resting in the center of the chest. This person was known as Rei Ayanami, first child as designated by the Marduk institute and assigned pilot of Evangelion Unit-00 her blood colored gaze resting on the black and white striped sphere that composed the shadow of their enemy her face marred by a tenuous frown that would go unnoticed by many of those that knew her.
æSomething is wrong I do not understand how I know it but I can almost sense that something very wrong is about to take place. Ikari, are these feelings attributed to you? Am I worried for your safety is that why I spoke to Soryu? My head is bothering me could that be the cause of this sensation; I simply do not know what I am feeling.Æ She thought her frown deepening as she watched the sphere float in the sky.
ôSomething is happening to you isnÆt it Ikari?ö
Further away a red-haired girl with brilliant blue eyes and dressed in a ruby colored bodysuit similar to ReiÆs stood leaning on a metal railing her gaze also drawn to the form of the ANGEL. Asuka Langly Soryu, Second Child and designated pilot of Evangelion Unit-02 stood there without so much as a word to the purple haired woman on her right, whom didnÆt seem to be in a talkative mood herself as she thought over what would happen in just a few short hours. Both knew that Shinji would die when the military dropped their N2 Mines into the Sea of Dirac but neither could talk about it as if they spoke of it then it would become a certain event, Asuka while blaming Shinji for his own luck still would not wish his death, and Misato simply didnÆt want to her charge die in such a way.
ôWhen this is over we should make Shinji-Baka make us an extra special meal for all the trouble heÆs caused.ö Asuka suddenly piped up.
ôNo I think just leaving the chores to him for about a month or so should be adequate punishment for being so reckless.ö Misato replied sparing a smile for her second charge.
æDamn but my head hurts.Æ Both thought as they lapsed back into silence a moment later.
