HALO/HALO 2 ought to be on the list, if for no other reason than multiplayer.

Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee/Save the Earth are fun in multiplayer

If you want a game where you slash the stuffings out of everything in sight with flashy moves, go with Dynasty Warriors 5.
Honestly, aside from the addition of some characters, I actually prefered DW 3 to four or five. Not entirely sure why, but I think it is mostly in the level layout, or something else.

I actually like Samurai warriors better then Dynasty warriors, and like Samurai warriors 1 over 2. More involvement in the levels then many levels of Dynasty warriors, though a lot of times, it still ends up with just killing an officer.

As for some recomendations...I gues Grandia 1 and 2, and Tales of the Abyss. each has their flaws, but should you like RPG's and need some to play, those are fairly good entries.

I'll second Tales of the Abyss and throw up Metal Saga in there as well.

Both are fun games to place on the PS2, though Metal Saga might take some time to find.

Metal Saga is a crossover gold mine too. It goes well with any setting if you want a postapocalypse spin.

For PC I'll have to say Vampire: The Masquerade, cuz all of the elements blended pretty well.

And Twinsen's Oddisey will forever remain in my heart as my first 3D game.

And for SNES FF3, even if it's actually FF6, with extra Kudos for not focusing the story on one single character.

Anybody with either an Xbox 360 or a souped up PC ought to pick up The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

Arguably, one of the most complete and in-depth RPG's right now. Reinstalled it just last week for kicks and giggles and to find a game to play, and despite having to study for exams, I can't put it down. I need to keep playing, I need to keep levelling my assassin/thief character, and perhaps see if I can get the Crusaders' Relics.

This game is a must have, in my opinion. But, if you can't run it on your machine or if you don't have a 360, you might be out of luck.

Well, I'm off. Got to find the last two damn wayshrines...seriously, you make it a quest, but you don't mark it on the bloody map?! As bad as trying to find a specific needle in a pile of needles...

Still trying to decide if I should buy oblivion when it comes out for PS3 or not. I typically don't like games that are somewhat similar in nature to MMORPG's, but most people have good thigns to say about it...and it is not like there are many other games to buy for PS3...

From the top, my suggestions.

SNES
-Super Mario All-Stars, for being many great classics in one cart
-Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
-Super Metroid
-Super Punch-Out!!, for being so cheesy and yet so fun
-Final Fantasy II (or IV Hard-type, if you emulate)
-Final Fantasy III (a.k.a. VI)
-Chrono Trigger
-Tales of Phantasia, although I prefer the battle control scheme of the Playstation/GBA remake, but the DeJap translated ROM is more true to the original version
-Seiken Densetsu 3, which I consider to be one of the top three RPGs on the system - yet it never made it out of Japan officially ;_;
-Super Mario RPG

N64
-this system in general, for making multiplayer gaming easier and more fun for me and my friends. Wish there were some decent RPGs for the system here in the States.
-Super Smash Bros., the original. Easy to learn, yet well-balanced. Playing against human opponents is the best, naturally.
-Starfox 64
-Mario Kart 64
-The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I shouldn't have to explain this one; it's one of the great masterpieces of its time. I didn't care all that much for Majora's Mask, though.

PSX
-Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
-Twisted Metal II (Aside from TM:Black and the PSP game, all TM games after this one sucked hard)
-Final Fantasy VII. Yes, I said it. I still like it, despite its faults (and the way Squenix seems to want to run it straight into the ^&(*ing ground...)
-Tales of Destiny, for introducing me to a better version of Phantasia's battle system
-Tales of Eternia, though I wish there was an option to not use the English language dub track
-Breath of Fire III. Best game in the series, IMO.
-Final Fantasy Tactics, though I never did finish it.

PS2
-Disgaea, Makai Kingdom, Disgaea 2, and to a lesser extent, La Pucelle. All great games, if this genre suits your fancy.
-God of War. I still love this game. Wanton violence, murder, callous disregard for life, blood and gore, and a sexual threesome (uncensored topless women included!)... and that's all just in the first level!
-Dynasty Warriors 3 and 5. Expansions optional. Flashy hack-and-slash fun, with a historical-fiction twist.
-Samurai Warriors (expansion NOT optional; it's too awesome). Same, plus greater difficulty, more interesting mission-oriented gameplay, and more.
-Guilty Gear XX Slash. Nevermind the suggestive title; it's a freaking awesome game. Revitalized the 2D tournament-fighter genre, has a great deal of depth to master, possesses a colorful and bizarre cast the likes of which hadn't been seen since JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (and a world just as colorful), and has a hard-kicking soundtrack largely inspired by the great rock and metal legends. Full of Win.
-Soul Calibur II. This game has a few flaws, but they are vastly outweighed by the intuitive, simple, yet very deep gameplay engine and smooth graphics. Just avoid the English-language dub track; some of that stuff is painful.
Also, Sophitia and Ivy make for some incredible hawtness. ^_^
(Unfortunately, despite the larger cast and Create-a-Character option, as well as a good English-language track (Crispin Freeman makes a damn good Siegfried), Soul Calibur III is plagued by problems - e.g. lame CaW movelists, cheap AI, lack of selectable difficulty setting, and the infamous Corrupt Save-data Bug - that just ruin it. Fail.)
-Guitar Hero. You'll never be cool playing it, but the songlist is awesome, the gameplay is fun and addictive, and it's easy to get into it.
(The less-than-spectacular tracklist and screwed difficulty progression of Guitar Hero II make me unable to recommend it, but it's worth a play at least.)
-Lego Star Wars II. It may have a cheesy premise and all, but it's fun and addictive, and full of unlockables.

Gamecube
-Super Smash Bros. Melee, for all the same reasons as the original, and then some.
-Tales of Symphonia
-LoZ: Twilight Princess. This game is great for all the same reasons as Ocarina of Time, looks better, has deeper controls... all in all, it's a fantastic farewell to the poor GC.
-Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Taisen 3 (import). You need a loader or modchip to play it on non-Japanese 'Cubes, but it's worth it for the fun of the multiplayer. I played it at an anime convention last year, and wished I could've played more.
(FYI, GH, it's set before the timeskip, the Sannin are all playable, and there are plenty of extras that don't suck.)
-too many other unsung heroes of gaming. The 'Cube just hit bad luck on the industry. Isn't it sad, Gamecube? ;_;

PC
-Unreal Tournament: 1999 Game of the Year edition. There's still a lot of user-created content for it, and LAN gaming drives its goodness.
-Starcraft/Brood War. Because it's still a great game. Still awaiting SCII.
-Dawn of War, and expansions. Also a great RTS.
-Melty Blood, MB:ReAct, and all updates/patches therein. It's just fun to play, when I can get to my friend's house (curse my inferior system specs!).
-All other Type-Moon games. Damn, but I can get into Nasu's works!

Get it. It is nothing like an MMORPG. Your future great great grandchildren will cry if you don't get this game.

I'm obsessively leveling my Dunmer summoner right now. Maxed out my conjuration stat by level 20, so I can summon everything in the game. Now working on destruction, blade, and illusion.

Throwing in Megaman X: Command Mission. Awesome RPG, although once you get Marino, the challenge tends to go down the drain - Quicksilver is just h4x. Against some bosses, it'll net you something like 10-12 consecutive actions before they even move.

MMX: CM is for both GameCube and PS2, by the way.

Also, if you have a Saturn and don't own Panzer Dragoon Saga, Shining Force III and Dragon Force, you need to be placed in a burlap bag, taken outside and beaten with sticks. <_<

I can't help but laugh whenever I see Sophitia do her somersault muff crunch throw. Seriously, what kind of priestess promotes facesitting as an acceptable way to defeat an opponent?

Yeah, soul caliber2 was a really good game(played it to death in the army), though I only trained in whatshername?(the one with 2 tonfas), for her ring out move...

Darn, has it really been that long?

Talim? Meh, for ringout potential just use Nightmare. A solid F,F, slash will insta-punt your opponent out of the ring. And Nightmare takes damage better than Talim does.

Of course, in the PS2 version, Heihachi is the KING of ringout. Stupid Deathfist.

You should see the 'hackalibur' vids where the characters switch weapons (and thus, movesets). Here's a pic of Seung Mina performing Sophitia's indecent throw.

I dub this the Centaur position.

Other notable highlights include Cassandra doing Voldo's air humping, Astaroth jumping around like Talim, Kilik's sword pogo and spinning suicide, and Mitsurugi in Xianghua's crybaby attack.

I've seen worse. Namely, Voldo performing that throw.

I still shudder at the memory. :(

Now now, who needs ringouts when you can use the ultimate cheap character for the K.O. Choose Seung Mina and at least for PS2, all you need to do is tap one of the shoulder buttons cuntinuously so the she repeatedly performs her spining attack with her halberd. Catch them once without guarding, and you will catch them about 2 or 3 more times for heavy damage.

Guess I'm older than some since I mostly noticed from previous posts that there were a couple of games not mentioned for the NES, SNES, and Sega Genesis.
NES
- River City Ransom (play on an emulator or buy the GBA remake)
Simple but clean graphics.? Dialogue and sound effects that can be oddly amusing.? And an inspired game mechanic for improving stats inside the game.

SNES
- Earthbound aka Mother 2
A funny, well-done RPG with a B movie theme.? Random encounters are visible on screen.? Possibility of surprising enemies for a round or instantly defeating them without initiating turn-based combat.?
- Metal Marines
Real-time strategy game on a tile-based board.? Able to build missiles and mechs for offense, gun pods and AA for defense.? You're the space colonies pacifying the warring remnants of a post-nuclear holocaust Earth, one island at a time.

Sega Genesis
- Toejam and Earl (play on emulator or download for the Wii)
Silly enemies (Earthlings).? Goofy protagonists (aliens from Funkatron).? Odd equipment list.? Option for random levels.?
- Shadowrun
A small taste of the table-top RPG, Shadowrun.? And is actually an RPG, unlike the SNES version.

I'll have to get the Genesis version of Shadowrun, then. I've gamed in Shadowrun before, and the SNES version was horribly lakcing, to say the least.

The main theme for River City Ransom is my phone's ringtone.

Played them all. I just neglected to mention them since most younger players would probably find them ugly looking. Me, I still play them on occasion.

I would still play my Genesis if the controller wasn't fucked up beyond all recognition. Vectorman ftw.
