Sora stared hesitantly at the new form his Keyblade had taken. It was an odd looking thing to say the least. Of course, many of his Keyblades were like that so it wasnÆt like he could claim that this keychain was unique or anything, but he had never seen one take on the form of a spear.
Or at least it looked like a spear. It had a wooden shaft and a pointed end but that was where all the similarities ended. Because the point wasnÆt a thin slab of metal, it was a drill. Ridiculous really. It looked like one of those hand drills he had seen some mine workers carry around with them when he had snuck out to see them board those big ships that carried the tired workers off to their work in the other islands when he was home so long ago.
But the Keyblade had gotten weirder from there because the Keyblade had apparently decided that it didnÆt feel at home without having some teeth and so had forced three smaller drills to jut out from the side.
He looked around to see if anyone was around and gave it a careful swing.
Nothing.
Despite his greatest hopes there was nothing. No burst of magic, no energy beams, no dimensional slash as was custom with many of his cuts.? He gave a small pout before running through every single form he knew trying to see if there was anything new the blade added. Nothing. He screamed magic spells until his throat ran dry and he was wheezing. Still nothing. Well, there was the ruined landscape but that was expected from magic. It blew things up or made him better.
But at the same time he didnÆt feel complete. Sora was always a curious boy and every single one of his Keyblades had SOMETHING to make it special. They let his magic get stronger. Or made his blows stronger. But nothing seemed to happen with this new sword. Eventually he gave up and made his way back to the gummi ship where Donald and Goofy waited.
They took one look at his unhappy face and figured out that Sora wasnÆt in a good mood and readied take off preparations. A few hours later, they flew through the inky void of space, well on their way to the next world. Or so that was the plan.
What had actually happened was that 30 minutes after leaving the planet they had been ambushed by a veritable fleet of Heartless and Nobody ships and the tiny Kingdom class ship they were in began to fail.
Klaxons blared while Chip and Dale tried to furiously wrest any form of control over the ship while the trio of Sora, Donald, and Goofy just stayed in their seats trying not to hurl and praying that they would somehow survive this. Of course, fate conspired against them and Sora watched as a laser blast burned through the back hull and vacuum immediately grasped hold of the ship. He watched in horror as Jiminy fell out of one of his many pockets and reacted without thinking.
He ripped off his seatbelt and dove toward the rapidly disappearing cricket and just barely grabbed him in time. Only now he was in danger as well and his handhold began to strain. Thinking quickly, he summoned his Keyblade, still stuck in that odd new form and lunged forward with it hoping to make another handhold. What happened next was unexpected, but more than welcome.
The Keyblade managed to strike a control panel, normally something that would have been very, very bad, but was in this case, very, very, good. As soon as the Drill bits touched the sparking panel, immediately the Keyblade began to glow green and suddenly the ship stopped.? He noted that the Heartless and Nobody fleets had stopped too for some reason. Almost as though they were unsure.
ôWhat did you just do!?ö asked Chip. ôIÆm getting massive energy fluctuations from the engine!ö
ôIs that bad?ö
ôNormally yes, but this isà different.ö
ôDifferent how?ö
Sora got his answer immediately as the ship began to warp and change. Pliable gummi blocks solidified and repaired the back hull while panels repaired themselves and an entirely new control console simply forced itself up from the floor plating of the ship.
Sora looked with caution at the new panel noting that somehow that the ship had somehow been changed back to perfect condition according to the display and immediately a foreign voice sounded out around him.
ôSpiral Energy detected. Voice confirmation required to activate transformation.ö
Transformation? Shook by this, the only thing Sora managed to mutter out was an ôUhh.ö
ôNew Voice Confirmation password approved. Would you like to change it now to a more appropriate one? My estimates show that the three letter password is easily cracked. I suggest one with at least ten characters and a number.ö
ôNO! Just uh, go start that thing-y you were talking about earlier. Before we get turned into space dust please.ö
ôCommand accepted. Please hold tightly to the controllers as we begin.ö
Sora looked around the new panel furiously before finding two lever like things that resembled the old joysticks he used to play with back when heÆd beaten (more like losing horribly) Riku at his videogames. As soon as he grabbed a hold of them, he felt them molding to his hands as a seat melted out of the floor and let him sit comfortably.
ôTransformation sequence beginningö
It was an awe-inspiring sight. Or at least it would have been if Sora could have seen the change from the outside. From his viewpoint, all he saw was the display in front of him changing the shipÆs design to something more human looking. Next to it was a spiral shaped display that showed what looked like a rising percentage value as it rose from 0%.
ôUnbelievable!ö cried Chip. ôIt looks like weÆre somehow just making more mass out from this ship! ItÆs going against everything IÆve ever heard of.ö
ôWell, as long as itÆs doing good we shouldnÆt worry about it right Chip?ö asked Dale nervously.
ôOf course we should you idiot! But this is no time to look a gift horse in the mouth. ItÆs the only chance we have to live here.ö
Sora watched the numbered display finally reach 100% and tentatively grabbed hold of the control yokes. He gasped as new feeling rushed through his body and suddenly he could SEE. He somehow feel space along with the hundreds of hostile ships surrounding him. He should have been nervous. He should have been frightened. All he could feel was excitement. His blood was boiling now. He wanted to fight. He wanted to win.
A mental picture drifted into his mind and he immediately knew what new form the ship had taken. It was humanoid with the crest of the Disney Kingdom proudly displayed on its chest. From its head, a crown much like the one of SoraÆs pendant formed and glowed in the darkness of space. A name came to his mind and his mouth formed unfamiliar words.
ôLagannà Kingdom.ö
As though in response to his thoughts, or maybe the new mecha really did react to his thoughts, its eyes began to glow an unearthly green.
Sora had no clue what he was doing but immediately lashed out with instinct and stared with awe as his æhandsÆ created waves of energy that disintegrated the closest ships while others further away from the new gummi ship were thrown aside like toys in a hurricane. The joint fleet looked at the new incoming data and drew up plans which it discarded in an instant the way only a hive mind truly can. As one, each ship began to glow bright with energy as they charged up for a massiveà retreat? The fleet had apparently decided to run from the new power until they could formulate a plan to deal with it.
Alone in the shattered remains of thousands of ships, Sora had only one thing to say.
ôThis. Is. Awesome.ö
